Gifted School for the Extrasensory

Recommended Posts

You may lurk, but please don't post as this is a 1x1.

The School for the Extrasensory

There are humans... and there are those who protect them.

They're called Extrasensories - beings who are missing a sense but make up for it in a remarkable way. They are given abilities used to combat monsters - hideous creatures that seek to destroy the human race and can only be killed with the abilities of the Extrasensories.

Every Extrasensory has a partner - the one person who is able to give back their missing sense with only a touch. Upon reaching the school, the students are taken to meet any un-partnered Extrasensory in order to find their match. The two will do everything together - train, eat, and even live together in order to ensure that they are able to work together.

But darkness is rising among some of their students, and they are beginning to take on the qualities of the creatures they so despise. The students must fight the darkness inside them in order to kill the monsters, or risk becoming the very thing they swore to destroy.

And here's the form.

Generally powers have something to do with the missing sense - someone who can't feel touch can inflict pain, someone who can't hear can generate different sound frequencies, that sort of thing. It doesn't have to be that close to the missing sense, just close enough that it would make sense ( xd.png pun intended)

Characters

USER: Polar

NAME: Ronan Grey

GENDER: Male

AGE: 19

SENSE MISSING: Sight

POWER:

Ronan is able to show through illusions someone's worst fear - he will literally become the fear, whether it be darkness, some animal, a clown, anything - he will take on the fear in the illusion, and can actually kill a person out of fear if he continues for too long. By showing people their worst fears, he also shows them their faults. If someone's fear is strong enough, he can even (on very rare occassions) turn the fear into reality should he so choose, though this is dangerous and something he has learned not to toy with. The effect of his power can be so terrifying that it can literally shred someone's sanity - it is something he has done before and feels no regret for. He can also sense the fears of those around him, leading to a sort of self preservation - if he were to attempt to take the form of another's fear that mirrored his own (which he never tells anyone), he would go insane instead of the other way around. Manipulating another's fear into an illusion is the only time he is able to see. When he is angry, he tends to inflict fear on the people around him, though no amount of training has been able to show him how, and because of this he is unable to control it.

PARTNER: Helen

PERSONALITY: Ronan is calm, cold, and calculating. He rarely shows his anger, and it instead shows itself as cold looks and cruel, knowing smiles. He is a bit of a bully and used to getting his way, an expert at controling his powers and an expert at manipulation. He has no real longing for a partner, as he is almost completely self-sufficient, and largely keeps to himself. He is an intimidating figure who often gets into trouble with the Headmaster and ends up having to train the newest students as a reprimand (which he hates). He rarely, if ever, forms emotional ties, and is deeply mistrusting of people in general, and many of the students will often call him a sociopath or a psychopath behind his back, but never to his face, for fear of what his reaction will be. He refuses to acknowledge the bond formed between partners upon their meeting, and swears that he will never have nor need one because he is completely independent. He has an odd tendency of being able to almost focus on people when they are speaking, which leaves all the students with sight extremely unsettled and the rest puzzled as to how he is able to do so, even if a person is simply walking by without a word.

HISTORY: Ronan grew up with his working mother and a Marine father, both of whom he saw very little of. His mother is a workaholic, who loves him dearly but barely ever sees him, while his father died in war when he was 14, the year his powers surfaced. He arrived at the school very close to suicidal, and cut for almost a year and a half before he was able to get the strength to stop. He wears the jacket for that reason and never willingly shows his wrists. When he was in school with normal kids, he was badly bullied both for being blind and for just being generally a little standoffish and odd, leading to his dislike of people in general. He was given his father's dogtags before he left for the school, and while he occasionally speaks to his mother and sister he has not seen or been back to his old home since. He joined the school at 14, and even after 5 years he has yet to find his partner, the longest time ever recorded. Even the headmaster is starting to believe that Ronan is correct in his assumption that he simply doesn't have a partner, even if such an idea is unheard of.

APPEARANCE: Ronan is six feet tall, slim and muscled from years of training. He has dark hair and tanned skin, with unseeing gunmetal blue eyes that have a tendency to look as if he can see who he is talking to. He usually wears darkly colored tshirts (colors such as dark red, green, and purple) and wears a black leather jacket on top. He usually wears jeans and combat boots, along with his father's dogtags.

OTHER:

-Has insomnia due to constantly sensing other's fears, which is irritating and prevents him from sleeping.

-His mother is the only person he really cares about.

((Whee, let's start biggrin.gif ))

"I'm sure you know why I've called you here Ronan." Headmaster Brock said, folding his hands on his desk.

"Is it about the kid you found bawling on the floor yesterday, mumbling about zombies? Because I had no involvement of that. Sure, I might have let it slip that one of his fears was zombies, but I was never directly involved." Said a handsome man who was leaning back in his chair and fixing the headmaster with unseeing blue eyes.

Headmaster Brock sighed heavily, though he knew better than to try and rebuke him - it never worked. "...No. I called you here to discuss how you treat new students in the partnering ceremony. And to warn you that there will be consequences if you do the same at this upcoming one."

Ronan rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, looking bored. "I just have to show them a little fear, so to speak." He said with a smirk. "And to show them what will happen if they mess with me."

"Which they won't."

"But they might." Ronan argued. "I'm getting tired of going to these ceremonies, I don't see why you continue to hold out hope that I might have a partner." He spoke the word with disgust. "Because after five years, I highly doubt that I will."

"We'll see." Headmaster Brock sighed again. "The ceremony is tonight, and I expect you to be there."

Ronan nodded curtly before striding out of the room, smirking at the exasperated sigh that followed him and at the fact that students scurried out of his way with fearful glances and whispers. He maneuvered the crowd of students with impressive talent, and slammed open the door to his dorm, which was surprisingly bare but well kept. He sat down heavily in the desk chair, fingering the picture that he couldn't see of him and his parents. "It's just an hour." He muttered. "Just an hour."

~ ~ ~

Ashlynn sat in the courtyard, looking quite bored as she watched students go to and fro. A young man that looked to be about 18 walked up to her, holding a clipboard. "Are you..." he glanced down at the board. "Ashlynn West?"

"Yes." Ashlynn responded, standing up with a puzzled expression. "What do you need?"

"I've been sent to inform you that the partnering ceremony will be taking place in a little under two hours. I am to escort you to a room where you can change into more formal clothes. A dress will do." He informed her.

"Alright, lead the way." She said with a smile, following him as he led her through several corridors before arriving in front of a door.

"Here are your temporary living corridors. You will receive a more permanent dorm tonight, whether or not you find your partner. I will fetch you when it is time for the ceremony." He said. "If you need to find me before then, go ask around for Robert Barrs."

"Alright, thanks!" She said cheerfully, opening to door and stepping into a room with a couch and a dresser, along with a clock on the wall. Her bags were sitting on the floor. "Right, okay." She said aloud, changing into a green dress before rummaging through her belongings for a book and plopping on to the couch to read while she waited.

Helen was practicing her dances when a woman slipped inside and tapped her shoulder. "Partnering ceremony in a little under two hours. Be ready and dress nicely." she signed to her. She looked nervous and signed back help.

The woman smiled and introduced her self as Ebony Winters and they both went through her wide variety of dresses until they both agreed with a cute less elegant lilac dress compared to most of her ball gown or fifties flapper style dresses. She bounced in her toes and wound up her music box, watching the two people spin slowly as she waited for someone to come and collect her.

------------

Fenrir was a difficult task. He hated the partnering ceremony every year although he's been here for two years now. Too many people, to much noise, to many smells it threw him off and made him uncomfortable.

So this year he was dragged there early and tied in a corner with a ten foot chain leash. He sat snarling at the man who "guarded" him, barring his filed teeth at him. This was a precaution mainly to provide protection for the others, he was known to bite a person each ceremony before they dragged him away. The only time he wasn't wild was in the kitchen.

He had no taste, but the guy sure knew how to make anything delicious or sweet. It was here he got serious. Although his powers made everything he handled delicious, he actually didn't need them to cook a great meal. Of course, they aloud him to cook because the first month he was there he refused any food he didn't make himself and grew thin. They really had no choice but to let him cook.

So now Fenrir sat in the corner glaring at the man with one emerald green eye and one red with a scar and black markings around it making him look even more frightening. His taussled black hair looked soft and fluffy, and he kept himself well groomed. He was in a all white outfit, not his favorite, but it was required for this.

"Good Evening." Professor Brock's voice carried over the small group of new and un-partnered students. "And welcome to the partnering ceremony. Tonight you may find the person that brings you back to your senses, so to speak." There was nervous laughter from some of the newer students. The headmaster noted that Ronan had yet to arrive, if he would at all. "The way this works is simple. Boys will line up on one side, girls on the other, and when I give the signal you will -"

The door banged open, and a very late Ronan stepped in with a bored look on his face. "Sorry I'm late." He said lazily, shoving his hands in his leather jacket and swaggering inside. "Traffic."

"Ronin Grey." Headmaster Brock said sharply. "Sit down."

"Yes sir." Ronan drawled, reaching for the closest seat he could find and sitting down in it. "Please, continue."

The headmaster let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his temples. "As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted, when I give the signal, you and the person across from you will join hands. It should be almost immediately evident if they are your partner or not. For those without smell and taste we will have verification for you. Please, line up."

When everyone was lined up (it took another threat for Ronan to get up) the headmaster leaned forward. "You may go now."

Ronan had his hand up in front of a girl (he had no idea what she looked like, for obvious reasons, though he didn't particularly care) and waited for their hands to smack together with no particular amount of excitement. "Any time before Christmas would be fantastic." He said lazily, his tone laced with indifference and dislike even though he had never spoken to her before now.

~ ~ ~

Ashlynn sat between two boys who looked like twins - they were both signing rapidly as they waited for the ceremony to start. The headmaster's voice rang out in the room, and she listened as he spoke, noticing the teacher beside him was translating into sign language. She jumped as a scary looking guy walked in and sat himself down near the back, disrespecting the headmaster all the while. Who did he think he was? Not that it mattered, so as long as he wasn't her partner.

It seemed like seconds before they were all lined up - somehow she had been shoved so that she was in front of a feral looking boy dressed in all white. She shifted nervously - he looked like he would bite. She saw the boy from earlier - Ronan, his name was - in front of a girl shorter than her, looking both irritated and bored as he held up his hand, waiting for the signal. She copied him, holding up her hand in the same fashion and waited for the feral boy to do the same as Headmaster Brock gave the signal.

Helen watched the teacher signing for her. When she stopped, she frowned then the teacher continued again. When she got in line she was in front of a handsome man that looked something like a cross between a biker and a army commando. She thought it suited him rather nicely.

She stepped forward when the signal was given and.... He held his hand out at chest height. With him towering above her at six feet, there was still a definite size difference between the two of them. She got on her tip toes trying to reach his hand when she saw his mouth move. She wasn't able to read his lips due to the fact he looked ahead and she only saw his bottom lip.

He was blind, that was easy enough to tell and she couldn't hear but she can speak .... kinda. She tried doing so. "Iye can not hear you. Too tall. Iye short." She said in her sweet voice, a little bit loudly so she could hear herself. She still was on her tip toes, glad she didn't take of her pointe shoes as she stood on the very tips skillfully and reached up wagging her hand still a several inches too short to touch him.

----------------

Fenrir glowered and made a chuffing sound folding his arms. A careful prod at his back and he snarled and hit his guard in the nose. He snorted and looked at the girl studying her. Sure he'd regain his taste, but his voice was permanently stolen from him or so he believed. Even if it gained his voice back, he wouldn't know how to speak, nor would he want to.

He took a step closer to her and the chain went tight, having reached his limit. For a brief moment he was curious about such a thing occurring, and reached out brushing his fingers against her palm. The room was slightly chilly, his touch light finger pads rough yet soft like he used lotion. He had long nails that where curved and sharpened to a slight rounded point but they tickled her skin. His hand was warm, his body basically a natural heater.

After a moment he pulled away with a sad chuff. He having the loss of taste couldn't feel anything right away. It touched his wild eyes for a moment before he shook his head like a dog with a small snarl at himself and stalked off to his corner and sat down against the wall.

She couldn't reach him? Ronan exhaled slowly, tipping his head down slightly and lowering his arm by several inches, unseeing eyes almost studying her face. It was easy for him to find her hand - the ceremony had been difficult at first, but five years of practice tended to make hard things easy. He reluctantly closed his hand over hers, and suddenly, he could see. Things were blurry at first, slowly coming into focus, and his eyes were able to for the first time fix on a person. His... partner. He scowled deeply. This was his partner? Could she even reach the doorknob? Surely there was a mistake. And her fear was simply... disappointing. He shrugged inwardly, harsh, cold eyes capturing hers. Time to turn on the Ronan charm.

Gunmetal blue eyes narrowed. "You know I can see other's fears. Everyone's." He leaned forward, hearing the footsteps of the headmaster approaching behind him. "And you fear a broken heart, rejection, above all else?" He laughed harshly, dropping her hand. "Pathetic." He signed.

"Ronan!" Headmaster Brock barked. "She's obviously your partner, and I would appreciate it if you wouldn't be so rude."

"Oh, you'd appreciate it, huh?" Ronan said with a sneer, turning on his heel towards the headmaster. "That's nice. There must be some sort of mistake, headmaster, because there is no way that she is my partner." His unseeing eyes flashed. "No way. She's like some sort of fairy, or something else that I'd end up having to protect. I don't deal with fairies." His head swiveled to the doors as they opened, a boy of about 14 running in and signing as he talked.

"Headmaster Brock, there are monsters on the border!" The boy said worriedly. "Some of the older students have already gone out!"

"Those idiots!" Ronan snarled, beginning to sign as well. "I'll take care of it, Headmaster." He strode out of the room. "Just let me get my gun."

~ ~ ~

Ashlynn felt it. She felt his touch. There was no way. But she did, and when he pulled away the sense was yanked from her again. "Wait!" She said quickly, going after him and ignoring his guard's warning. She had already figured out that he would bite. "I felt that!" She told him. The guard choked, and she ignored him. "I felt that." She said slowly this time, as to not scare him off. Ashlynn kneeled down, reaching her hand out again. "Can we try again, just once more? Please?"

She was aware of the boy that had burst in, talking about monsters. She heard Ronan leave with no apparent difficulty. But it didn't matter now. Finding out if this boy made her feel again - that was important. But the rest could wait.

Helen had a look of pure astonishment as she started hearing other people. However, a look on confusion went across her face as he frowned at her. She tilted her head as he explained his ability then dropped her hand. She put her hands over her ears as suddenly the sound cut off. pathetic she saw him sign, speaking about her fear.

She blinked then started laughing as he walked away. She skipped after him with a grin. "Iye fear rejection of a lover. Iye have no love for you, so iye do not fear you. Iye come. Iye may be new but iye know how to use powers." She says stopping next to the principle and smiled broadly at him. He really can't scare me, I don't fear anything big. I'll go help him. What is his name? she signed quickly and waited for a response before skipping out of the room.

She went to her temporary room, changed her shoes to proper sneakers and dashed out to the main door to follow her partner.

-----------------

She should have listened to the guard. With a roar like snarl he bit her arm.... then quickly let go spitting out her blood, a disgusted look on his face. He went to wipe his mouth and stopped. He tasted that.

A sharp look up and the headmaster looking irritable and the guard was rushing towards them to get her away. Since the guard was closer he leapt up and did a running groin shot. He got winded, but felt no pain, a necessary thing for handling the feral man. He went to the end of his chain and slashed at the headmaster making him stop away from him.

Then he did something that shocked them both. He went back, taking off the white arm sleeve and ripped the straps on it off. Kneeling he carefully wrapped it around the bite and lowered himself to where his head touched the marble floor with a wine like a dog did when he knew he did something wrong. He was apologized for his actions towards her, and much like a dog who had chosen his beloved master, he would be fiercely protective of her and only listen to her instructions. Much like he did with the hermit he lived with.

Ronan scowled, stiff-backed as he stormed into his room and slammed his hand against his desk. "Typical." He muttered, pressing his thumb to a pad against the wall. He grabbed a belt with two holsters, loaded two handguns and shoved them in before slinging a sash of reloads around his torso. Several knives were slipped into his boots and belt, but surprisingly he wore no armor. He paused, thinking. His idiot partner wouldn't think to bring a weapon. This was just a game to her. Groaning, he grabbed another gun and holster, loading it and making sure the safety was on before walking back out. His time of solitude in this room would soon be over, much to his annoyance.

"You're still wearing a dress." He signed with a sneer, tossing the holstered gun at her. "I hope you know how to use a gun." He signed, walking out of the door without waiting for her to follow and heading towards the border, where sounds of fighting could be heard. He arrived at a horrible sight (not that he could see it) - several students laid injured on the ground, being defended by those that were still standing. Ronan whipped out his guns without hesitation and proceeding to shoot three monstrous creatures in the head without hesitation. "How many times must I tell you that your abilities aren't always enough?" He bellowed, the air feeling like it had lowered several degrees as fear permeated the area surrounding him. "Go home, all of you. I'll take care of this." He was fully aware that there were another seven creatures he would be taking on, practically by himself, but he had faced much worse odds.

The guns spun in his hands, and four more shots rang out. Another four monsters toppled over, dead. Now came the difficult ones. He decided to end them in a different fashion. His gunmetal blue eyes turned, reflecting a completely different place and inside this illusion he was making, Ronan could see. Three slim monsters surrounded him, looking wary. He could see what's-her-face (he never had gotten her name, much less cared to get it anyways) behind him, and holstered his guns, knowing they would do nothing against these three. They were more powerful than the rest - ordinary weapons would not harm them. He probed their fears, looking for a common thread. Ah, yes. Their deaths would work quite well. In the illusion, his body shimmered, turning into the thing the three feared most. They stumbled back, and Ronan gave a feral smile, feeding on their fear. He staggered forward, grasping for them. They shrieked, lurching backwards. Ronan grasped one, sending it flying towards the others, causing them to fall into a heap before them.

Ronan smiled. Oh yes, he had them now. The unique things about his illusions was while they were only happening in the mind, the mind believed it was real and reacted as such. He reached out a hand for the one on top, who was breathing erratically and flailing widely, grabbing him by the throat and swinging him into a tree with a sickening snap. The monster gurgled once, and was still. He turned his eyes to what's-her-name and beckoned over. "Kill them.." He signed to her. She probably didn't know what was happening - she couldn't see the illusion, just what was happening because of it. "Use your powers. They will not fall by normal weapons." He told her, maintaining the fearscape, as he called it, and stepping back, crossing his arms.

"Ow!" Ashlynn exclaimed, gritting her teeth. "That hurt!" She exclaimed, holding her arm but relaxing as the pain disappeared. No touching meant no pain. She looked at the wound in fascination and slight surprise - she didn't think he would actually bit her, but... it was her mistake. She was startled when he went to bandage her wound, allowing him to do so as she realized he was much more animal than man. It would take work to tame him, so to speak. It was a good thing Tarzan was one of her favorite stories, then. Ashlynn patted his head slightly, wincing as she regained the sense of feeling momentarily. "I forgive you." She told him gently. "Someone get this fixed up, eh?" She asked with a grin, turninf around and ignoring the looks of shock on the headmaster and the boy's guard. "Seriously though, I think I'll need stitches."

"Right, of course." Headmaster Brock said, nodding. "I'll escort you to the hospital wing. Excuse our shock, it's just Fenrir has never acted like this before."

"Fenrir." Ashlynn said thoughtfully, testing out the name. It suited him. Her green eyes flickered to his spot on the floor. "I'm Ashlynn." She told the feral man. "Now, let's get this fixed before I bleed to death. Just an exaggeration, of course, but it does look serious."

"Come along then, Ashlynn." The headmaster said before looking at the guard. "Fenrir may want to come, so bring him along if necessary." He smiled kindly. "Let's go then." He said, leading her out of the room and to the hospital wing.

"Iye do not need a gun. Iye use whip." She said carefully to him and trotted along side him to keep up. She was startled at the scene, but she had fought these things before and knew how to think clearly in these situations.

She was impressed with his skill with a gun, glad that she was deaf and didn't hear the gunshots. Then things seem to turn. She saw the monsters back away from him and how he killed one of them. She walked up to him, handed him a pair of noise canceling head phones and strode up to the monsters. The students who can walk where already dragging the other injured away. She stood directly in front of the two cowering creatures and took a deep breath, sticking her fingers in her lips to create a shrill whistle.

She glanced at him and winked before blowing right in the creatures ears. To him it sounded something like a mosquito ring tone, really annoying migraine inducing. To the monsters, it was painful. They screamed and shook their heads, blood coming out of their noses as they failed in pain and one suddenly when still as soon as she ran out of breath. She then clapped and it sounded like a earth shaking roll of thunder, the other one who staggered to his feet and mouth opened to bite her flew back, hit a rock with a sickening crack and went still. She looked at him with a smile.

---------------------------

Fenrir trailed along behind her the chain leash dragging the ground behind him like it was nothing. It jangles as he walked, always two steps behind her. Others gave them odd looks as they passed with what they called "wolf man". Both he and Ronan where well feared in the school.

In fact, the two men had a mutual respect for each other and often either avoided the other or had a unsaid truce between them when in the same room. Fenrir wouldn't attack Ronan, and Ronan wouldn't show Fenrir's fear. He was afraid of being caged, forced to act like a man, then hunted like a elk.

When they got to the hospital wing the nurse saw the bloody wrapping and tisked her tongue. That boy bit another one? Why don't you just let him go, he hates it here obviously..." She said turning around and getting the materials that where all ready and waved the girl to one of many begs. She jumped startled as Fenrir was beside the girl and sat on the floor beside the bed his head down and back slouched.

Ronan pulled the noise cancelling headphones over his ears, but the shrillness of the noise hurt his head, the noise snapping his concentration and plunging the world into darkness again. He still knew they were dead, however, when their fears vanished. "Good enough, I suppose." He signed. "Your technique needs practice, and it's required for you to learn shooting and fighting before you're allowed to fight without supervision." He turned, striding back to the school, knowing that she would follow him whether he wanted her to or not. He was still reluctant to believe that he had a partner - and such a sickeningly cheerful one, at that. If he hadn't gouged his eyes out by the end of the week, he would be surprised. He stalked through the hallways, noticing that everyone was already against the wall, and walked into his dorm, shutting and locking the door behind him. He ran his fingers through his hair. He was sure the headmaster would be out to talk to him soon - locking one's partner out of their dorm wasn't normal practice. Eh, she'd live. He shrugged, storing all his weapons away again and pulling out his pajamas, stepping into the bathroom. He needed a shower.

~ ~ ~

Ashlynn took a seat on one of the beds, unsurprised at the fact that Fenrir had followed and was now sitting on the floor beside her, looking like a kicked puppy. She didn't even react as the nurse cleaned her wound and stitched it up. Ashlynn flexed her arm slightly. "Thanks." She said, hopping off the bed.

"Ashlynn... as you know, partners are required to board together. But with Fenrir the way he is, I would understand if you chose to take a room close by instead of a room with him." Headmaster Brock told her, glancing at Fenrir out of the corner of his eye.

"If you don't mind, Headmaster, I think I'll give boarding with him a try." Ashlynn said brightly. "I don't think he'll hurt me now."

"Alright then." He agreed. "But if you change your mind..."

"I'll let you know." She promised before fixing her green-eyed gaze on Fenrir. "Can you show me your room?" She asked him softly.

She did trot along behind him, but she didn't know the dorm rooms where co ed so she headed to her temporary room to change and shower. She didn't hear the knock and was startled when ebony appeared in the mirror behind her as she was blow drying her incredibly long hair. She asked a question then when Helen answered, she peered out the door and waved the okay to the headmaster.

Helen had on pink fluffy everything from slippers to pajama pants to her soft pink sweater. She still had half wet hair and the dryer in her hand waiting for the principle to explain things to her.

-------!-----

During this time, Fenrir had gotten off the chain. More like snapped the lock that kept it around his caller. When asked the question, he nodded and got up, obediently leading her to his room. There was a lot of empty rooms next to his and bars the windows had stoppers on them so they can only open so far that way he can't slip out. They were thick too, a sticker on them read bullet proof glass.

His room itself was quite colorful. His drawings of wolves, dogs, mountain lions, and a scruffy bearded man dressed in fur adorned his side of the wall. Both beds where neatly made, his looking vacant. In a corner of the room was a large round bed with soft furs from beaver and mink to bear and rabbit. His side was also organized. Drawing pads neatly stacked, pencils in color order in their packages. A clean white board hung on a hail on the wall, a little shelf holding the markers, cleaner and erasers.

He took off his shoes before he walked in and set them in his organized closet. This revealed two sides of him. Wild and weary, but neat and orderly. Conflicting sides but somehow suited him nicely.

Ronan had the radio on in his room as he stepped out of the bathroom in sweatpants and a T-shirt. He only wore shirts like those when he was alone - others didn't need to see the scars that he wore, it was a symbol of shame for him. He flopped down on his bed and closed his eyes, letting out a deep sigh. The day had been exhausting for him - from finding his partner to battling monsters, he really just wanted this day to be over. His mind drifted and he dropped off to sleep.

"You're an artist." Ashlynn observed, looking in admiration at the drawings on his side of the wall. She set her bags down at the edge of her bed and pulled off her shoes, stashing them under her bed for the time being. "The drawings are very good." She told him with a smile. Ash was surprised at how neat his room was - she wasn't sure what she was expecting, but this certainly wasn't it. Her eyes flickered to the barred window. "That's a bit depressing. Do you run away a lot?" She asked him curiously, sitting Indian style on her bed.

((I wanted him to explain the situation with Ronan. By him I mean you but nvm))

The headmaster explained how the rooms where co-ed and ask her the same question he asked ashlynn. She should her head and responded the same way. She'll try to get along with him.

She gathered her things and with ebony's help she went to Ronan's room with the headmaster. He checked the door and knocked on it loudly. "Ronan, if you don't unlock this door yourself I have the keys with me and I'll let your partner in myself." He warned jangling the keys.

----------

Fenrir looked at his feet shyly when she completed his artwork. He signed thank you one of the few signs he knew how to do. He went to his dresser and opened up a drawer and pulled out a black tank top and silk black pajama pants.

He rubbed his arm and looked at her when she asked if he ran away. Slowly he nodded and chuffed a little. He held up two fingers, flipped through a mini calender on his desk, then at himself and out the window and held up his hand wiggling all five fingers.

What he was trying to say was: two years here, I ran five times. He then looked at her and pointed to the spotless bathroom tilting his head in a questing way asking her in his mute way if she wanted the bathroom first.

There was movement, a loud thud, and a string of curses followed by the door being unlocked and flung open by an extremely irritated Ronan. "Headmaster, what the he-" He checked himself and continued. "What do you want? I was asleep." He said with a scowl, gripping the door tightly with his fingers, causing the scars on his wrist to stand out. He didn't give it a thought in his anger. "Is this about my partner? Surely this could have waited until morning, instead of the middle of the night?" He demanded, bristling.

"Miss Helen is to move in tonight, Ronan, whether you're asleep or not. Now move, before I move you." Headmaster Brock threatened.

Ronan muttered angrily under his breath but moved aside, skimming his hand along the wall until he found the lighswitch and flicked it on. He never had a use for it, so didn't bother using it. "Make yourself at home." He ground out sarcastically, flopping down on his bed and punching the pillow. "Please enjoy your stay. I sure won't." He said under his breath.

"You're welcome." Ashlynn said brightly. She knew rudimentary sign language, but not much more that that. "Five times in two years?" She asked him. "That's a lot." She didn't press after that, seeing that it made him uncomfortable. "You can use the bathroom first. I still have to shower." She told him. "I'll just put my clothes in my dresser." She said, unzipping her bags and beginning to put her stuff away.

She couldn't read his lips, but she can tell by his body language he was upset. As quietly as she could, she put away her things and stored her suitcases nicely under her bed being careful not to move any of his things. She padded over to his side and set something on his dresser. "My uncle was blind. Best violinist there was. Iye could not hear him play though. This his watch... it is brail. Iye thought you might like it.... Iye am sorry for being a bother... Night Ronan." She flipped the switch and padded over to her bed slipping in with a groan of the springs.

There where four clicks... then music playing softly. She had started her music box feeling the twangs of the cylinder inside with her fingers. The music stopped playing and she was breathing softly, sound asleep.

---------------------

Fenrir nodded and went into the bathroom. The shower started and it wasn't long before it was over.... and the sound of water hitting the plastic curtain like he was shaking out his hair. Overall he was in there ten minutes, most of the time brushing and flossing his teeth before exiting the bathroom and curling up on his fur bed covering his head and facing the wall.

The bathroom was also amazing. The floor tiles he used special paint and covered them with a white with hues of blue like snow. His certain was a snowy forest scene and the opposite side of the room had a faux window open to a howling wolf the rest of the walls had a black white and grey theme with birch trees and snow going into the distance.

Ronan heaved a deep sigh, shifting onto his back and staring unseeing at the ceiling, listening to the melodies of the music box. He ran a hand through his hair. She meant well, certainly, but having to rely on someone else would mean that he would have to care. And Ronan wasn't completely sure he was ready to do that again. After his father... he shook his head, sighing again. He would attempt to be civil, as he would be forced to live with Helen, but he would distance himself. He hadn't needed anyone for five years, and he didn't need anyone now.

Ronan woke early that morning from a near restless sleep. Rolling out of bed, he heaved a sigh (which seemed to be common practice for him these days) and pulled out paper and a pen, writing a short letter in his nearly illegible scrawl.

'Helen-

I apologize for my treatment of you yesterday. I am a difficult person to get along with in general but will try to be more civil in the future.

Ronan'

After that he changed, leaving the note in an easily seen place before exiting the room and heading for the mess hall. His thumb ran over the watch's face and he ran a hand through his hair. He hadn't planned on taking the watch, but he didn't really want to hurt her feelings. Why, he didn't know, but he shoved it out of his mind as he arrived at the bustling mess hall. He grabbed his usual - eggs, bacon, and some French toast before seating himself at a nearly deserted table. At least, it was nearly deserted until one of the only students he couldn't intimidate plopped down beside him and started talking his ear off. Ronan sighed. This was going to be a long day.

~ ~ ~

Ashlynn showered, washed her hair, and dried off, pulling on light pajamas before brushing and flossing her teeth and drying her hair. She observed his artwork with a slight smile before walking out. "The art in the bathroom is incredible, Fenrir." She told him, flicking off the light and climbing into bed. She was silent for a long while, the events of the day turning about in her head. "You know, I'm glad you're my partner, Fenrir."

She drifted off to sleep not long afterwards, curled in a ball under the sheets, breathing softly. Being a light sleeper, Ashlynn wasn't concerned about not waking up on time - Fenrir would probably do something to wake her, considering that it didn't take much.

Helen woke up, the alarm she carefully set up shook her bed until she woke and turned it off. She switched on the light. She saw the note and read it giggling- his handwriting is as bad as her dad's.

She carefully selected her outfit, a pale yellow long sleeve shirt and a pair of light blue skinny jeans. She came out and went to the dinning area getting some eggs toast with jam. She went over to the guy sitting beside her partner. "Pardon me, but I think you are being called..." She said in the clearest English she can manage. The kid got up and left. She took his spot and giggled. "It is fun messing with people! You look tired. Did iye keep you awake with my music box?"

--------

Fenrir huffed and made a purr like sound. He covered her with a thicker fur. It usually gets cold in the room at night, the heat in this section broken and he was always warm so he liked it a bit cold. He laid curled on the bed and wrapped himself up in fur falling asleep, he too was a very light sleeper, although he taught himself this due to survival in the forest all those years.

In the morning he was silent. Like a wolf sneaking up on his prey he padded around the room getting dressed. When it was time he went over to her and made a small huff sound and set a hand on her shoulder to wake her gently.

He was up earlier then most and held up the white board. ' I can make you brekfast. I make my own. Wat wood you like?' was written on it in a black dry erase marker. His spelling was reduced to phonetic forms of words and simple words. She can tell he tried several times to just make it legible. He can read cook books like a master, but.... other books not so well. He was still stuck at a child's level.

((Sorry... was running experiments this morning and just got my laptop back last night, finally.))

"It is. Why do you think I've been doing it for all these years?" Ronan asked, stabbing his fork into the eggs and shaking his head. "No, it didn't keep me awake, I'm just an insomniac." He chewed slowly before swallowing as he stared unseeing at the wall. " Thank you for the watch." He signed slowly, his lips twitching into a semi-frown. He didn't like thanking people - usually it meant that he owed them something. He didn't make a move to speak again until he had finished eating. "Partner training starts at 9 this morning. It's really just team-building exercises, but we're required to go none the less. Meet me at our dorm once you're done and I'll show you the way." He stood, putting away the tray and dishes and walking towards the door, exiting as a swarm of younger students entered, laughing and joking with each other, though one dark look was enough to quiet them as he strode by.

Ashlynn was roused by Fenrir's gentle hand on her shoulder and she rolled to the edge of the bed, yawning and rubbing her eyes. She squinted at the white board, her sleepy brain not quite understanding what it said for several seconds. "Breakfast? Hmm... What do you normally make?" She looked thoughtful. "I like scrambled eggs and bacon. Can you do that?"

((Yae!!))

Helen sighed heavily. So he thought the same thing as other adults then. Reading emotions was key for the deaf. She can tell, he had the watch to not upset her. She could tell from the way he charged ahead with the monsters yesterday that he thought she was a frail child that needs to be out of the way.

She ate slowly before heading to their dorm dejectedly. When she got there and went inside, she left the light off and scuffed her feet against the carpet purposely to alert him she was there. Her hands where in her pockets, the deaf way of saying 'i don't want to talk' and didn't make a word. He can read fears. Not what people don't like. In a round about way he insulted her by treating her like a child. She hated being small. She can only fit it children clothes or had to have things made specifically for her. Shoes were harder to find. She was nearly eighteen, denied a drivers license because she was deaf and short, and still got handed the kids menu at restaurants.

She stood quietly waiting for him to lead her where they need to go.

-----------------------

'EZ' He put and drew a stack of chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream, strawberries and a honey bear bottle holding a maple leaf on the board. He pointed to that and mimics eating pointing to himself. He then drew three cow heads, one had a chocolate bar plus a cow head, another had a nut representing almond milk. He put an OJ on there also drew an apple with a J and a question mark. Asking what drink would she want.

When she responded, he erased the board and drew a room with a dinner symbol inside it telling her to meet him at the dinning room. He cleaned the board, grabbed a note pad and a pencil before leaving her to get dressed and ready for the day.

Ronan spit out the toothpaste in his mouth, swishing water around in his mouth before wiping it on a towel and stepping out. He tilted his head. He thought he heard the door open... ah. There she was. Probably mad at him for some reason or another, though that was no surprise. He tended to have that effect on people. Sighing, he rubbed a hand through his hair (which was a common practice of his, leaving him with constantly disheveled hair). "What did I do?" He signed, opening the door to allow her to leave before sliding his hand down the wall. The lights were off - she must be genuinely upset with him. Ronan probed her fears. She had an average amount, though they were no indication as to what he had done to upset her. Helpful. "Apparently being a partner requires dual effort. You tell me what I did, I try not to do it again and probably fail, and thus the cycle repeats itself." He signed in Helen's general direction as they walked. "For example, I dislike weak people. You have demonstrated that you are not weak, and so I do not dislike you." Ronan resisted to add the word 'much' at the end. He opened the door to the wide room where they would be attending class and allowed her to walk through before shoving his hands in his pockets, looking rather angry. It was really just his resting face, but at the very least it kept people away.

"Wow, you like to cook, huh?" Ashlynn asked. "You don't strike me as a cooker, but I guess that's a good thing." She grinned. "I burned pasta once. That was the first and last time that my mother allowed me to cook." Tilting her head, she looked thoughtful for a moment. "I'll take apple juice. And maybe some of those pancakes with the eggs and bacon?" She requested, green eyes twinkling merrily. He left after telling her where to meet him, and she dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, pulling on a pair of cowboy boots before applying a little makeup. She headed down to the dining hall, a slight spring in her step, and narrowly avoided running in to an upset looking girl that was leaving. Ashlynn hunted for the most secluded spot she could find, finally settling on a spot in the corner that was nearly empty other than a little boy eating pancakes. She smiled at him and he grinned broadly at her, displaying several missing teeth.

"I'm Zane!" He said cheerfully. "Headmaster Brock is my dad. He's not sure if I'm Extrasensory too, but I think I am. I can't smell anything. That's not normal, at least I don't think it is. I've grown up here, so I don't really know." He tilted his head. "Who are you waiting for?"

"My partner Fenrir." Ashlynn told Zane, whose eyes widened almost comically at the name.

"You got Fenrir as a partner? Wow, you must be something special." He took another bite of pancake, which seemed to be coated in syrup. "I like Fenrir. He's nice to me and makes sure the older boys don't get me. Ronan too."

"Iye rather you act like a jerk then treat me like a fragile child." She said walking by him with a huff. "Iye am nearly eighteen. You treat me like child again Iye hit you below belt. Of course Iye am strong, Iye am Russian, we are stronger then we look. Right now, Iye don't like you as much as you don't like me. Cut the bad act. Simpleton." She moved to the back corner of the classroom and climbed up into a chair that had a "conveniently" placedbooster seat so she can see the signer.

She had a frown on her face, something out of place but she didn't care. Right now she was furious with him. She only spoke to him if she had too.

---------------

Fenrir came out with two trays, one in each hand and set one in front of her. Brown sugar bacon, scrambled eggs that looked fluffy, three chocolate chip buttermilk pancakes topped with creamy butter and whipped cream and Apple juice in a glass on the tray.

He set his tray with several pancakes alternating between butter and peanut butter on them, whipped cream, strawberries and Bonney maple syrup poured on top. Seeing Zane, he ruffles his hair before sitting down to eat. He ate his meal with a board expression on his face. Having only his sense of smell, he could tell it was supposed to be good... but he couldn't taste anything so really he just made it because it smells good.

"Fine." Ronan said, his signing quick and snappy. "I was going to apologize, but I'm not going to now." His face was twisted into a scowl, and those nearby shifted as fear permeated the air. He took a deep breath, calming himself, and relaxing his furious expression back into his normal sneer. His face lifted into anger again. "Cut the bad act? Are you being serious?" He signed, obviously angrier than before. "This act, as you call it, protected me from being bullied mercilessly when I first began coming here. This act prevented me from having to get close to people only to lose them again. This act is what made me realize that to be the part I had to stop -" Ronan stopped signing abruptly, chest heaving in his anger. His silent rant had gone unnoticed, as everyone was paying attention to the teacher at the front. He was in the back, he could slip out unnoticed. Surging from his seat, he strode from the room, completely ignoring any confused looks he may have gained.

His bristling anger made everyone steer clear of him - anyone that was in his was was shoved away with a sneer. He didn't even knock as he walked into the Headmaster's office. The headmaster was the only one in there anyway. "Headmaster, there's been a mistake. There's no way Helen is my partner." There was a beat of hesitation before continuing. "I want to leave the school."

"You want to what?!" Headmaster Brock exclaimed before sighing. "Ronan, sit down and breathe, then tell me what happened."

Ronan sighed deeply, relaxing before explaining to the man that was close to a father to him exactly what had happened. "I can't..." He sighed. "I can't do this. I'm not a likeable person in the least, I'm not even tolerable. I shouldn't have a partner. I didn't even want one."

"Ronan, I more than most know what you have been through. Give Helen a chance. You are in the wrong this time, Ronan. You need to give her time, then apologize." Ronan opened his mouth but Headmaster Brock cut him off. "A genuine apology. Now get back to partner training. I don't want to have to write you a detention. And for both of our sakes, please try to get along."

"Yes sir." Ronan said, mock saluting and almost running into the wall on the way out. The rest of the walk back was easy - after he had vented, he felt better. He didn't actually want to leave the school - but he tended to make dumb decisions in anger, a bad tendency he had inherited from his father. He walked back into the room, once again ignoring any looks he may have gotten as he seated himself again.

"Wow, you practically made a feast!" Ashlynn said with a grin, watching the interaction between Fenrir and Zane with a small smile. "You ever wondered what the food tastes like?" She asked him, eating with her right hand and laying a hand over his with her left. "Now you know." She told him with a grin.

"Ew, you're holding hands!" Zane exclaimed, wrinkling his nose. "I'm leaving before you something even more gross, like kiss!" He grabbed his tray and scampered off, leaving a laughing Ashlynn behind.

"Aw, he's a cutie." She said with a smile. "So you make sure the older boys don't get him, huh?" Ashlynn teased with a smile.

Helen wasn't there. Nor was she in her dorm room. Ignoring everyone, she had packed up the essential things and promptly walked to the entrance. She didn't want to leave her dad in the first place. He was an emotional wreck if he came back from on tour and didn't find her at home, but instead locked in her locker at the ballet school where the girls shoved her inside.

Being deaf, she couldn't hear if anyone came in and the teachers never went inside the locker room. She'd bang on the metal till her hands bled and it seemed to her the world was deaf to the deaf. Her father once found her after two days in the locker, the girls would just ignore her and the dance place was supposed to be closed for a three day holiday so nobody was there.

In fact her dad had to break the window to just get in the place. And even now the adults where worse. She'd walk into a club, get picked up like a puppy and dropped outside without asking for any id first. She still gets gushed looks and pinched cheeks from elderly and mothers with little children, who were two years older then she was! To think he was the only one bullied mercilessly! Ha! She continued on bond and determined to leave this place and walk back to her dad.

------------

Fenrir dropped his fork and just about chokes on the food as he tasted it. He yanked his hand away and coughed violently until his airway cleared. He didn't care what things tasted like. He's missing the tip of the tongue any way, meaning he can't taste sweet things, even when she holds his hand. So the pancakes tasted salty, bitter and sour.

Fenrir nodded to her question and continued eating using his other hand so she couldn't touch him.

((Phew, now that I've finally got a chance to post...))

Ronan quickly realized that Helen had left as well. "Where...?" He muttered to himself, furrowing his brow. No one bothered to look as he left again, striding quickly through the hallways and harshly shoving away anyone who got in his way. He halted inside his dorm room. He listened - it was silent and empty. Time for more drastic measures - he used his fear sensing to pinpoint her location, and after several moments he found her standing at the entrance. He swore. She was going to leave! He didn't want her to leave, not really. Making a split second decision to do what he had only done once before, Ronan managed to project himself to her in an illusion, despite their distance from each other. "Wait." He said. He sounded almost pleading. Almost. His connection snapped after that - it expended a lot of energy and even that little bit left him more tired than before. Sprinting towards the entrance, he skidded to a stop in front of her, grabbing her hand. The contact caused his vision to return, and his eyes burned with intensity that may have otherwise been missed.

"Helen, wait." It was one of the first times he had used her name. "I don't want you to leave." He admitted, with some effort. "Not really. I'm... well, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Ronan hated apologizing, but sometimes, it had to be done. "I understand that you're angry, and if you choose to leave then I won't try to stop you. Just give me one more chance. I'll try to be a better partner." He pleaded. Like it or not, Ronan knew that the two of them would be more powerful together than apart. He had just been too blind (pun most definitely intended) to see it. "I'm sorry." He repeated, looking sincere.

"Sorry!" Ashlynn exclaimed, looking startled. "I didn't mean for that to happen." She apologized, moving her hand to prop up her head. "What do you guys do all day?" She mused, not really expecting an answer. "Will we have to train and stuff?" She sounded curious. "I can't really control my powers, they're slaves to my emotions. I try, but... I inflict pain even when I don't mean to. I just get to frustrated or angry, and my powers lash out." Ashlynn explained to him, taking a sip of her drink.
