The Name Code project

I've had this breeding project as a personal project for a few years now. I got hooked after the rush of my first success (it's free gambling :P ) and realized - why don't I share this with more people, and maybe selfishly expand the pool of eligible eggs?

What is it?

  • In this project, you don't name your dragon - their code is their name, and their name is their code! There is room for a few exceptions where you would name the dragon exactly after its code (if you need to make a note for breeding, for example - I wish we could remove pairs from the top of a dragon's "breed" action list!!), but the aesthetic and aim of this project is to have the Name Code stand on its own.

How does it work?

  • This lineage depends on the code of the dragon. Simply, a Name Code is composed of all letters, first letter capital, the rest of the letters lowercase. Here is an example

  • The main aim of this project is for Pure Even Gen Name Code lineages, but because it does take a while, I've decided to open it up to other Name Code projects too. You just have to specify what you are looking for, what you're willing to breed, and/or what characteristics the egg you have is offering (inbred or not, Even Gen or not, etc).

  • Pure Even Gen Lineage: You start with CB Name Codes, then you breed them until you get a Name Code offspring (abandon the non-Name Codes). Then you can breed those first gen Name Codes together, until you get a second gen Name Code. And so on. Here is a 3rd Gen example of what it looks like.

  • Something else: Specify what you're looking for. This can be if you accept inbred and just want an egg, if you're going for stairstep, if you're breeding for pure even gen, or will accept anything! Or, if you're trying to build a collection of CB Name Codes of a certain type of dragon (like Pygmy, Drake, etc).
    • There are a lot of retired dragons when doing a Pure Even Gen project, so I'm happy to try breeding some of mine, and trying to give you a successful sibling for your own project.

How to do this? / Best practices

CB eggs

  • To find CB eggs, you hunt in the Cave by hovering over an egg and checking the link preview (generally pops up at the bottom of your browser). Most of the time it will be obvious if it's a Code Name or not, but the "L" and "I" are indistinguishable (and almost always not what you want). To tell these apart, you can copy the link, paste it in your browser (but don't go/press enter!), and remove everything but the mystery "L/l/I/i" and see what search recommendations come up.

Breeding

  • Create a group for your CB Name Codes (and for each successive generation), and put all your CB Name Codes in that group. This makes it easy to breed them. Keep an eye out for those "L/l/I/i"s.

  • It's important to use the Fertility BSA on any first-Gen or greater pairs just to eliminate the chance of rejection

That's pretty much it! I've gotten down to 4th Pure Even Gen, and I breed Drakes, Dragons, and Two-Heads. I have a bunch of CB Name Code Pygmies, but they never gave me success for offspring so I stopped trying. Sometimes I get other fun combinations, like a Number Code, so I'll save those too.

Getting that successful Name Code on breeding is definitely a rush. I don't know if this will take off or if it'll remain a personal project, but hopefully it'll inspire some of you to try! And I'd love to hear if anyone else has been doing this on their own time.
