Rules for Site Discussion and Subforums

Recommended Posts

[Updated 12/1/2023]

1. The overall board rules for the forum still apply, namely treating other users with respect. All board rules can be found here.

  • The rule on no swearing includes dragon codes - please do not post vulgar codes or attempt to bypass the censor with them.

2. The following topics are not permitted in Site Discussion:

  • Rant/Vent topics or topics that do not lend themselves to a positive discussion
  • Chat topics (Please take these to forum games or the official Discord)
  • Topics about one individual - No personal topics, member hello/goodbye topics, or topics centering around only dragons on your scroll. Discussions should be open for everyone to join and applicable to many.
  • No topics that violate the site terms - no catching for others, no offers to sign into other's accounts, no reverse-engineering the site, etc.
  • No IOU topics or mentions of IOUs - Topics in Trading must adhere to on-site trading mechanics, ie what can be offered in one teleport and completed immediately.
  • No spoilers for new releases - keep new release discussion in the news thread until it is closed.
  • No 'clubs' that are meant to exclude other members / have barriers for entry.
  • No 'Call outs' or 'Blacklists' in topics, signatures or profiles.
  • No topics that belong elsewhere on the forum. For example, suggestions for site mechanics or changes belong in suggestions/requests. Suggestions for new dragons or new dragon types belong in Dragon Requests. Questions about gameplay or bug reporting belongs in the Help section.

3. Keep topics relevant to DC: non-DC topics should be taken to General Discussion.

4. Title your topics appropriately - a title should let users know what is being discussed within. Irrelevant or misleading titles may be changed at a moderator's discretion.

5. No Spam - this can include (but is not limited to):

  • The obvious definition of spam - self promotion, links to other sites, 'Hey guys what's up', irrelevant content, etc.
  • Topics that do not lend themselves to a discussion at all, such as 'I think the sky should be purple in Valkemare' you can only answer yes I want that or no I don't—and the discussion is over. Moreover, only TJ can change this. There is no discussion to be had among members. Topics should foster interesting discussion in an open ended way.
  • Replying to existing posts to say only 'lol' or something that equally contributes nothing to the discussion.
  • Replying to existing posts just to chat or with something completely off topic.
  • Reply to spam posts or rule-breaking posts is also spam. Use the report tool to alert a moderator.

6. Do not mini-mod. Let moderators do their job.

  • If a post concerns you in any way, use the report tool. It is helpful to explain in the report what about the post you felt might violate the rules. Mini-modding users who violate the rules simply creates an argument. Report and let a moderator handle it.
  • This also includes posting to inform the OP that their topic is in the wrong section, is spam, etc if it has already been pointed out by someone else. If you notice that a topic has already had what rules it is breaking pointed out, the most you should do is report the thread using the Report button and leave the moderating to the moderators.

7. Rules specific to the Trading subforum:

  • Due to frequent bumping posts in trading/gifting topics, we will allow one (1) bump every 24 hours. All other bumps/reposts will be treated as spam, the member will receive a warn.

Example:
Member posts trade on the 17th, member can not re-post/bump the same trade until the 18th.

8. Project accounts:

  • All Project Usernames MUST be approved by a Forum Mod before being made. This is to ensure that someone actually in charge of the project is making the name, among other things. The forum rules state all users may only have one account, and project accounts are exceptions that must be run past a mod.
  • When requesting a project account, it must be for a successful, existing topic, having enough members to keep the topic active. Please provide a link to your topic in your pm.
  • If a project account is allowed, only use it in the topic it was created for. Members using project accounts in other topics will receive a warning.

9. Account Recovery

  • The only way to recover an account with a forgotten password is via e-mail password reset. If you no longer have access to the e-mail account listed associated with your Dragon Cave or forum account, then you will be unable to recover your password. This is why it is crucial to keep your account's information up-to-date. Moderators cannot give out emails associated with accounts.
