Mass Effect

Recommended Posts

dad bought me Mass Effect when i was 12 I loved it only part of the game I cried durring was when Saren died , it's a good game but Saren should have been a romance option for a femshep.

in my play threw

Got Garrus had him go Renegade

got Liara

didn't "Romance" anyone (thought Saren would be recuritable instead he blows his brains out sad.gif )

Ashely died

Wrex lived

Saved Eden's progress or what ever it was called

Queen bug lived

slapped reporter

went FULL renegade

and saved council's unthankful buts

Anderson got chair Undia can well

he can just die

in ME 2

Romanced Garrus (tried hacking game to change his name to Saren didn't work...)

Slapped repoter...again

got Spectre status back

recruited everyone did all loyalties though Mordin died *is sad* I missed him preforming Gilburt and Sullivan (second play threw didn't romance ANYONE and let the Cerberus cheerleader and Jacops die *snicker*)

went full Paragon cause those scars are creepy in all play threws but cause she's a imported femshep there's still a bit of...female dog behavior

went threw all 15 pages of game discussion and didn't find anything about Mass effect

I played the 1 to exaustion. Seriously.

That is one heck of a game. Still to play the 2.

Anyway, i never felt so drawn in by a game like i was in Mass Effect. The way they talked, the way they looked, just made it feel, touchable. Although there were some parts where i was bored due to already doing that part over and over again.

The main thing that i didn't like was somewhat the Character Creation. I thought there were some areas where all items were stupid. Especially the eyes.

I spent atleast 2 hours in my 1st character trying to not having the eyes look like chinese. After those 2 hours, i decided to go with the default Shepard and simply enjoy the game.

Anyway, if i could shout directly in Bioware's faces, i would say:

MAKE A 3!

I love them both, but I got a little bored after 100+ hours into the second one and some 30 hours into the first. To be fair, both held my attention longer than most games.

I would love to play it, but it would kill my poor compy. And I haven't had the time to buy it for the Xbox yet. Maybe I should do that after work since I'll be in the area.

The Mass Effect series has easily become one of, if not, my favorite gaming series to date. I must have beat the first game about a dozen time, and the second one quite a few times as well. I love the character of Shepard and the whole Mass Effect Universe in general. Just talking about it makes me want to play the game again. Hmmm, maybe I should.

Wrex is def. my favorite character so far, though I find myself oddly drawn to Thane.

I found my brother's 2 recently (Collectors edition. I find it funny how people recognise Shephard, when all they can see is an oddly mutated Collector carrying some pretty heavy weapons) and finally got off my ass, finished 1 and then did 2 on playthrough. It's ludicrous how much Paragon you need to keep Miranda loyal (Jack is on my squad, and is therefore higher priority). Then afterwards when I tried to make nice, had 100% Paragon (or near enough) she was still being a censorkip.gif*.

Saved the Rachni, saved Wrex, didn't romance anyone first, romanced Tali in the second, saved the Council. Ingrateful censorkip.gif***s.

(Minor spoilers here for those who haven't completed ME2, or those who want to figure out the final mission on their own)

For those who don't know, you should have Miranda and Garrus command the fire teams, in that order. If you don't then in the first fire team there's a chance the techy will die (Legion did for me this time. I'm playing again.) and in the second the commander dies. You should send a 'squishy' (the ones that focus entirely on tech or biotic powers. Like Tali or Mordin) because all of the heavy gun people (like Garrus and Samara) are needed to hold the line (Garrus even gives it a special bonus, because he's that awesome). Biotic powers are nice, but you need some heavy guns when fighting an endless horde of Collectors. You should have Legion or Tali as your first specialist because they're the hackers, which minimises the chance of being hit by a rocket, and Samara or Jack as your biotic specialist because of their raw biotic power. When fighting the Reaper Larvae both should be loyal because there's a chance they will die, and if you're REALLY unlucky there's a very small chance Shephard won't make that last jump. It's minimised by the amount of people that survive, what condition the Normandy is in and how many are loyal etc, but there's always the chance. And, of course, everyone mentioned must be loyal.

Now, I'm going to WILDLY theorise about possible future plots for Mass Effect 3 and how we could POSSIBLY defeat the Reapers.

Did anybody notice how in the Tali recruitment mission, she said that the sun was probably dieing due to 'Dark Energy' and everybody accepted that and it was never mentioned again? Future plot idea?

The Rachni could be this age's blunt object to beat the unbeatable enemy back until we figure something out. The Krogan against the Rachni, the Rachni against the Reapers.

Dr. Solus hinted that if the Krogan worked out their aggression problems then the genophage would be removed. If you save Wrex, you can see his efforts at this with the common ground female camp and his attempt to unite the Krogan clans. They could breed a horde of Krogan and unleash them violently against the Reapers. The odds for that fight are about 3-1 Reapers, which is good odds against the unbeatable horde of space demons who have destroyed all other life in the galaxy.

Also, the Geth.

Hold tight, this is where it gets brain-melting.

Now. This one is the most out there. I haven't confirmed this myself, but it seems like something Bioware would do. Apparently there are codex entires, speaking of something referred to as a 'liveship': a supermassive ship which is entirely organic. It was found as a wreck, and stolen by the Batarians and never ever seen again. In the same system where this was found, an eccentric (possibly crazy) Volus multi-billionare bought a planet, and started a pseudo-religion based upon something he called 'the light' which would save them from 'the coming darkness' and 'the machines.' The mad prophets at the start of each game have given away plot hints, albeit in very obscure ways. You go back to the prophet on Omega, knowing what you now know, and you listen to him really good. Then, do the same with the one on Eden Prime. Mad prophets seem strikingly accurate in the traverse.

EDI mentioned that the appearance of the Reapers is determined by their base species. I noticed that Harbinger and all the other Reapers at the end looked remarkably like Soverign: massive squids. This means that it's probably their creator species. But it takes a population of about 12 billion to create the human Reaper. What species could be so huge it could make so many Reapers? Or, it could mean that the species had a lot of mass and genetic matter. Like, say, a giant ship amount? A giant organic ship? Hmm, where was this mentioned before? And how old would that species be, to have created the timeless machines that obliterate species after species in a giant cycle, having only received three recorded fatalities. One of which had just had it's brain destroyed (Soverign as Saren-Soverign hybrid), one of which was a half-formed baby (the human-Reaper larva), and the other had been brought to heel by a mass effect canon so huge it would've made the Death Star feel self-conscious (the derelict Reaper by the Brown Dwarf). They would be so old, that absolutely no trace of them would've survived, despite their size and obvious power in creating the Reapers. Except, maybe, one derelict husk of a ship, so weak it could be captured by the BATARIANS.

My brain is now leaking out of my ears having typed that, so I'm going to post this before it melts my keyboard.

And did it annoy anyone else that you could CLEARLY see Saren was part machine all along? The metal grafted into his skin, the wires and pipes, etc.

-raises hand- Finished the first one (female Shep, named her Adrian for the lulz biggrin.gif)

Romanced whatshisname in the first one, currently going for Garrus on 2 (and will stick with him in 3 if possible, as Garrus is awesome), playing mostly paragon runs.

I love it. I picked it up one night because I was bored and had played all my other games, and I decided to get the sequel before I even finished the first one, it was that good. The writing is fantastic, the characters are great (again, Garrus is one in particular I like. Mordus is also great, I love his speech and song), the world is amazingly thought out... it's proof that while cliches usually end up bad, they can be done well.

It's also kind of funny just how attached you can get to the characters- I actually had no remorse about leaving Ashley behind to die after she shot Wrex (I didn't hit the right conversation choice... I re-loaded the game, but I still let her die for that), and Garrus is a solid part of my team unless that is somehow rendered impossible. Even Shepard herself- I never intended to play her the way I have, but it's fun and makes for a good character.

Looking forward to the third one biggrin.gif

ETA: Oh, and how did I forget the Rachni? I hope they do live to the promise to help against the Reapers *I spared the queen- I couldn't leave a race of bugs with sound-sight synethesia to die!*, especially given that the Reapers are more or less confirmed to be the reason they started the war.

Also, has anyone ever read the books? I'm thinking of getting them, if the writing is even half as good as it is in game, I should get a good literary fix xd.png

I loved ME2, played it for hours.

Ironically I was quite bored during the main plot, but loved all the missions to get the different crew members. Any of you played the DLC?

So, question to all- do you really try to characterize your Shepard and make fitting decisions, or what?

During my most recent run of Mass Effects 1 and 2, I've decided to kind of 'let the character take over', and I've realized something interesting- despite getting full Paragon on both runs, it's usually not from the goodness of her heart xd.png It's just proving Machiavelli (hell yes, I spelled his name right on the first go!) wrong/being genre savvy- treating people nice gets better results than intimidating them all the time, and saving races (like the Rachni and heretic Geth) will prove useful in the coming war. The only real genuine goodness is to crewmates, everything else is pretty much for money/reputation xd.png

I've also heard that Commander Shepard is a massive Mary Sue, but I did a couple litmus tests (not a great measure, but a good idea for what you're working with), and actually got 'a rounded, balanced character' result xd.png It's too fun for a writer to not do anything with, I'm actually considering making a third playthrough with a more fleshed-out story in mind.

... Hey, this game is fantastic for when you're in a rut for full story ideas, but still want to make a character.

Yeah I've played Mass Effect for an in character runthrough. I'm doing one for Dragon Age, too.

Cool biggrin.gif I'm currently working on the full 'character' for mine... and debating on dropping $40 for my own copy of ME1, the current one is shared. My time with it is up on the first.

For a little while I was feeling weird for doing this, but then I read the Troper Tales page for Mass Effect xd.png Suddenly, I feel completely normal.

ETA: After writing it all out, it's about two pages. ... Unexpected character development in the fact that she is very much for humans becoming part of the greater galactic community, and has quite an interest in aliens of all sorts. Mainly turians (due to long military tradition in her family), hanar (simply because they're so... alien), and quarian/geth. After 2, she is hoping they can find peace of some sort.

Cerberus is simply a tool to her, and every opportunity to make a subtle jab that she is still very against human dominance is taken. ... Every opportunity. (I fully think the idea of three of the six paragon romances being aliens was a fridge brilliance move for if you side against Cerberus. Because on top of everything else you do... yeah.)

I love Mass Effect, both 1 and 2. I've been replaying them a lot just to see what the different back stories are like. Usually, I choose the Mindoir one, though xd.png I'm always a Paragon, though I do some Renegade things once in a while.

I romanced Garrus as well wub.gif And I LOVED the loyalty missions, very well thought-out.

Anyone else psyched for Mass Effect 3?

RPG+Futuristic game=recipe for win.

You know what would be awesome? Having an Elcor squadmate xd.png I heard people talking about it, more as a joke than anything else, but it would be hilarious to hear an Elcor's battle cries.

With enthusiasm: Today you meet your end.

Practical? Not really, but it would give me giggles. Besides, BioWare said ME3 was going to be slightly more light-hearted.

*Is hoping for Elcor squaddie*

Aha.. I'd rather go with Blasto tongue.gif Or some sort of hanar squadmate.

... Hanar are cool, dammit D<

On another note, I'm really wondering what might happen when it comes to Thane and Mordin- both are quite likely to die in the interim before/during the third game. ... >:

Salarian aging, well, nothing can really be done about that, but I'm really hoping there's some way to help Thane x3 And they did say it would have some more lighthearted elements, but that doesn't mean it's going to be all fun x3

I'm also hoping they manage to get the ability to play 'Don't Fear the Reaper' over the closing credits to ME3. Why? BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME.

Wanted to play these for the LONGEST time, only recently got a 360(and my computer sucks).

Mass Effect:

Fem-Shep named Kitt.

Kinda blazed through this... have to go back and play again, I only picked up 15 Achievements.

Saved pretty Bug-Queen

Didn't kill Wrex

Saved the ungrateful Counsel

Anderson for Counselor

Left Ashley to die so I could get the sex Achievement, I didn't know Liara was sexable until too late.

Apparently made Garrus Renegade.

Went mostly Paragon, a little Renegade.

Vanguard

Mass Effect 2:

Imported Kitt

Switched to Infiltrator(loved it!)

Romanced the hell out of Garrus

Recruited everyone but DLC, gained all loyalty but Miranda's because I picked Jack over her during the cat-fight.

Lost Legion and Miranda. Legion was tech and died cause un-loyal Miranda led the first fire-team.

Blew the Collector bass to hell.

Mostly Paragon, a little Renegade.

2ed playthrough(with Kitt):

Imported Kitt from ME1

Switched to Soldier(HELL YES)

Romanced the hell outta Garrus(kinda wish Tali was a romance option for fem-shep)

Recruited everyone and gained all loyalty.

Lost Mordin...will restart Collector Base mission tonight and send his squishy butt back with the crew...and take Tali with me to the final boss.

Blew the base the hell.

Got full Paragon bar by mid-game. ohmy.gif

Had an embarrassing but enlightening conversation with Mordin about Kitt's sex-life.

"I am the very model of a scientist Salarian"

Will import this Kitt to play on Insanity and get the last few Achievements I'm missing.

Love these games!

So, I'm rooting for a Varren teammate in ME3...not that I think I'd ever use one, but he could be like Dog and just chill on the ship and be cool in general. Okay...maybe instead of a space hamster, I could just have a space varren? Varren? Please? Varren?

Also...how the hell did Alenko get unfrozen on Horizon? He was pretty close to Lilith, and I watched her her get turned into goo. I would think the Collectors would have taken him to censorkip.gif with my Shep at the very least. Kind of funny they took everyone around Alenko, but left him. Probably a plothole, but I like to speculate.

Oh man it's been years since I played 1 let me see if I can remember my decisions...

Let the council die. Screw those guys, they didn't trust me and so they suffered for their actions.

I saved Wrex, since the Krogans are probably my favorite race in the ME universe.

And I was mostly renegade during both play through. Story wise I thought both of them were stunning, since they were the only games that really made me fall in love with the characters and the universe.

Out of the two, 1 had the better gameplay I think. I really loved customizing my own weapons and armor. There seemed to be 6 different brands and 6 types of each brand for every type of weapon. It was like a toy store for me because I played as a soldier. Through trial and error I finally found an assault rifle that worked well with me and fitted it with mods that made me unbeatable. Very high damage, high rate of fire, very accurate even when moving, and took well over 2 minutes to over heat when constantly firing. I had so much fun acquiring, testing, and modding different weapons.

The second game lacked some of these things and it really left me disappointed. I hated running out of ammo with my weapons because I was forced to change up which gun I used. It seemed impractical to force me to use a hand cannon when I could be using my Collector assault rifle. Limiting my shots in ME2 didn't go well with me.

I also really wish ME2 had more of a weapon variety. Only having around 3 or 4 rifles, 2 sniper rifles wasn't really my thing. Not much for upgrades or mods really killed combat for me, too. In ME1 I could attach a really powerful explosive round that made my sniper rifle feel like a sniper rifle. Very powerful, but takes a long time to recharge after each shot. Or maybe I could take a more stable round and treat it as a long range semi automatic rifle. Can't do that in ME2. In ME2 there is no sacrificing one upgrade for another.

I could seriously go on about the disappointing gameplay but it would feel like I've left out some of the really good moments.

Overall ME2 had a better designed universe, and the new characters grew on me very quickly. I remember how Grunt was my favorite character because of how badass he was, and earning his loyalty really felt like I had helped out a friend. I remember near the very end of the game, I thought he had died on the ship and I stood up and shouted NO! because I was really upset over his death. Of course he pulled through but it scared me ****less.

So yeah ME2 had more emotional ties to it, more than ME1. But the characters in ME1 have still left a pretty big impact on me. Seeing Wrex in ME2 was just like visiting an old friend.

*Revives*

Seriously, Mass Effect is my favorite game series of all time. All. Time. I've played 1 and 2 so many times.

My "main" or "canon" Shepard is...

-Female

-100% Paragon (So all of the paragon choices, like saving the Council and sparing the Rachni queen are present here.) Nope. Paragade. Mostly paragon, but the renegade interrupts are too juicy.

-Romancing Kaidan actually, I haven't decided..

-Soldier

-Colonist

-War Hero

-Not a single soul of my crew or squadmates died.

Full paragon meter both games. In 2, a little renegade points slipped by because I picked a few small neutral dialogue choices, but nothing major at all. My Shepard is considered a Paragon by game standards, by the end, renegade only had less than half of one of those little divided up bars.

Baaah, I decided Paragade is the way to go.

I seriously hope dialogue for Kaidan/Ashley is better than ME2's Horizon! Kaidan made me so sad. D:

Of course, it sets the scene for Mass Effect 3.

Spoiler below for Mass Effect 3, but I assume most know it.

Shepard will be in trial on Earth to be judged for his/her crimes against the bartarians in 'Arrival'.

I was just hoping there was a way...

Spoiler: <.< For anyone who hasn't played it yet. >.>

...to warn the Bartarians, and let the 300 thousand+ aliens live. I was really rooting for a scenario in which Shepherd could get off a warning to the colonists, she only got a cut off sentence. Although with the Achievement for beating the mission being named 'Ultimate Sacrifice' I shouldn't have been expecting better.

-Female

-100% Paragon

-MS1Romancing No one

-MS2Romancing Garrus ("She had flexibility I had reach" conversation always gets a chuckle out of me.)

-Soldier

-Colonist

-War Hero

-Usually lose my Crew in order to keep the Squad mate that I usually don't care to use in the boss battle anyway xd.png

-Blow the Collector Base to Hell amd the epic remains of tht boss along with it(lol)

*Stares at Cynder for a second...*

Wow... pretty darn similar.

Than again there's my other usual

-Male

-100% Renegade (Just never really good at being bad... unless I play a guy... guys just seem to be better, and easier, Jacknuts(So it won't get censored...) than women...)

-MS1 Romancing Ashley (Then I leave her on Virmire to get blown up lol)

-MS2 Romancing anything that moves and is believed to be female... and won't fry my brain(And you know who you are... *Cough*Asari*Cough*)

-Varies but is usually a Vanguard.

-The Earth one

-Lone Survivor

-Still lose my Crew in order to keep the Squad mate that I usually don't care to use in the boss battle anyway xd.png

- Hand the Collector Base over to The Illusive Man

PS: Love using the Kain for that final battle... one shot and it goes down to about 10% health xd.png

On another Note: The Normandy is changing again... anything you hope to see?
