Attempting to acquire a new computer. Should I get a LCD or LED monitor?

It'll be used mostly for gaming and internet browsing.

Also, I'm sorry I can never seem to answer anyone's questions here. :C

What kind of monitor are you currently using?

LCD. I don't think I've ever used a LED screen.

LCD is nice, I use LCD. Other things to consider are screen size, resolution, refresh rate, and so on. Not to mention if you even need a new monitor at all.

Whatever you go with - get a good one. Monitors are one of those things that if you spend the money on them at the outset you'll get a lot of years out of them. My last monitor did 7 years before it packed up.

Check the reviews of whatever you're looking at, and try to stick with a known maker. Consider not just current, but potentially future useage. Some monitors are 3D capable - is that something you're likely to want in the next few years? Is space a problem? What sort of resolution do you prefer?

LCD is the most common kind out there at the moment, LED is relatively new onto the market. That said, I've seen a few and they do look stunning - plus they're a heck of a lot thinner, so they take up less space and mount onto walls better.

I definitely need a new monitor. |D Our last one died about 2 years ago, and our current (dead) desktop is an all-in-one. I'm typing this from my laptop. So yeah, I don't have a monitor.

Space isn't a huge issue. I haven't looked at anything too in detail yet, but I think I'd like at least 1920x1080, and I'm pretty sure I won't be needing 3D any time soon. Also, I'm undecided whether or not to get one with speakers.

Both of these LCD monitors (click me, and me) have speakers, and the only difference that I can see between the two is the response time and about a 2-5$ price difference.

Asus are pretty reliable, though I do suggest looking around various sites and seeing if you can get some reviews up for those. Always worth knowing what people that are already using them have to say wink.gif

Wether or not you want built in speakers may depend a little on what you are after sound-wise (and what you are currently using). If you're after surround sound quality... there's just no point, you'll need externals to achieve it. That said I have built in speakers on mine which I use quite happily for all my music and gaming. It does save space and clutter, both on your desk and with the wiring, to use built in ones. Do, again, check the reviews to see what the quality of the build in speakers is like.

Permanent black dye is an incredibly strong pigment, as in it stains literally everything it comes into contact with. Thats why you need to be so careful with it, because it's so dark.

As far as I know only way to combat it is to go to the other extreme, which is bleaching it again.

You should probably talk it out with your mom since you don't like black hair so much, it's probably the safest bet and it is YOUR hair after all.

Too bad.. She forced me to go to the salon to get my hair dyed black. She claims black hair look healthy(I'm Asian) and that my bleached hair makes me look old and abnormal. I don't get why she gives such a huge damn about my hair. Its not her hair after all, like you said. Since my hair is colored, I just have to find ways to strip the dye out. After all, bleaching is permanent compared to dyeing, isn't it? blink.gif

P.S. I heard that baking soda + anti-dandruff shampoo is rumored to take out dyes?

Dr Pepper is a soft drink (like Pepsi or Fanta), but the taste is kind of hard to describe. You can get different flavours of it (cherry & vanilla that I have seen).

Also I've got a question of my own: does anyone know how long someone should wait after eating things with peanuts before they do anything like kiss someone who is severely allergic to them?

A very long time. Like AT LEAST 24 hours, and wash your face and hands thoroughly, and take a shower (it can get into your sweat if the person is that allergic) and clean your teeth, and wash again and scrub your tongue, and blow your nose.

Not kidding, really I'm not. If you care enough to kiss them, I would give up the peanuts until I have a new kissable in my life instead !.

I want something to protect my laptop since I got a shiny new one for Christmas and my last couple tended to get scratched. I tried googling various things but that either gives me new tops entirely (do not need) or decals (which I want something a little stronger than) or sleeves to carry it in (again, not what I want). A screen protector would also be nice since I always smudge mine somehow. Any idea where to look or how to phrase the google?

http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4-Hair-Colour-Remover_1000978/ ://http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4-H...mover_1000978/ ://http://www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4-H...mover_1000978/

Colour B4 hair colour remover is the safest and most effective way to reverse an undesirable hair colour application. Colour B4 shrinks the artificial dye molecules in the hair, enabling you to simply wash them away. What's more Colour B4 does not touch your natural hair pigment so you are left with the colour which lay beneath your artificial shade.

- Colour B4 takes you back to your lightest shade.

- It will return your hair to its natural colour if the artificial hair colour applied is darker than your natural level.

- If the artificial hair colour applied is lighter than your natural colour, the natural pigment within your hair has been chemically lightened

- Although Colour B4 will remove the artificial dye, you will still notice your natural hair colour has lightened.

In this situation (and to re-create your natural shade) simply select a hair colorant close to your own natural depth and tone. However, always select by one shade lighter than your (natural) depth to ensure a realistic result.

Not sure if this (or another similar product) will be available where you are, but it looks from the reviews like it works pretty well for hair that has been dyed darker than it's natural shade (and not so well otherwise). Not quite sure what the result will be if you use it on once-bleached, then black hair, but it'll probably lighten it significantly.

A laptop shell? http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&ke...9&creative=9325 I suspect availability will vary a lot with what sort of laptop it is and I make no comment on how effective one would be (or how likely they are to melt!).

I don't think that product is sold in my country Singapore... Every time I take a shower I mix pure baking soda with anti dandruff shampoo. Will try doing the procedure repeatedly to see the results cos my hair is freaking dark; black. May also consider spraying lemon juice onto my hair then expose to sunlight to prolly lighten it.

I got my hair dyed flat black for comic con last year, semi-permanent dye. It's just now getting back to it's normal color.

For me it washed out pretty fast for the first couple months and after that it didn't fade at all. I had a cool gradient thing going for a while.

I didn't try to remove it, so I can't tell you what works or doesn't work.

My current hair color is dark brown/black. Took 6 attempts of shampooing my head with baking soda. Need to repeat till my hair gets up to at least medium or light brown.

Does anyone know a good site for mutiple tabs on a 3Ds? Like a site that lets 3Ds users have several tabs? There is one for DS Lites, but I haven't found any for 3Ds.

Not sure if this is what you meant, but this allows you to have a maximum of 9 tabs open.

(I'm assuming by 'tabs' you meant the browser ones tongue.gif)

Oddball question for the Brits on the board: what is the customary for the Royals' personal security details?

I am going under the assumption that they have such for when they're out in public, much the way the US president and his family have their Secret Service details, and I'm currently working on a story that involves the Royals. So I'd like to be able to give a proper description of the security detail that would be present as they're boarding their private plane in London... both how many would likely be present (or at least, obviously present) and how they would be dressed.

I'm pretty sure that for a presidential detail, there would be at least one guard per family member, with several others scattered around a perimeter. Secret Service members can generally be recognized by their basic black suits, nearly ubiquitous sunglasses, and the spiral cord from inside their jacket to the ear-bud radio. Is that similar to what the Royals get?

Royal Protection is handeled by a specialist unit at Scotland Yard (Royalty Protection Branch SO14). Figures I've found suggest there are around 500 officers in SO14, responsible for the protection of 20 Royals and their residences. Officers are armed with 9mm Glock 17 pistols. The ones at the residences are usually in police uniform, I think the ones that actually go with the Royals are plain clothes. And by plain clothes I mean plain clothes - you can't really tell them apart from the Royal Aides and suchlike to look at them.

Thanks, Tikindi!

So plain clothes that would blend in with the Royal Aides... I'll call it basic suits, then, outfits that would include jackets or blazers so as to hide shoulder holsters.

Pretty much everyone around the Royals wears a suit jacket anyway, so that would figure yes.

Who could possibly forget the Daleks? Funny, though, I don't recall any of them volunteering to guard humans before, only to exterminate them.

However, now I'm going to have to insert them into my story in some small way, even though it is not a Dr. Who fic or even a crossover. But I expect I can manage to make mention of the kids watching it on the telly... my story's current time-point is late summer 1989, so the last season of the original show would run from September to December. Only problem being, no Daleks appeared in that last season. Sigh.

I don't suppose Dr. Who played in re-runs at any point in that time frame? Might it have been available on videocassette back then?

Late, but Dr. Pepper is a blend of various fruit flavors with spices. In the UK it tastes more or less like plums, in the US it has more of a spicy vanilla-ey flavor. There is an urban legend that it contains prune juice. I don't know if this is really true, but since prunes are dried plums I can see how people would think that plum flavoured soda contains prune juice.

My Sims 2 game disc has a few small cracks around the center. The longest is about 2 millimeters. Should I replace it or could it possibly still be used without shattering?

I am going to assume it couldn't be repaired.
