Posted May 24, 2010 Especially now that not many people will be hunting due to the egg release coming up (these times are always the best for hunting) I'm not sure about that. I guess most players will not have heard about the upcoming release. However once the new release has started you might be able to catch quite a few nice things on the AP as plenty of eggs are dropped when their owners start scrambling for the new releases. In general, when I hunt I do as plenty of others have described here: I have a certain breed and its description on my mind and try not to get distracted by other nice eggies that might come up. Has worked pretty well for me, so far. (Apart from my sweetlings I've caught all my dragons myself, including the cb metallics.) Good luck hunting your CB vine. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 24, 2010 Thanks for all the tips, guys. I'll try some of these out and see which ones work best for me. If anyone has any more tips, keep 'em coming! Even if it's something silly like "I always wear my favourite pair of orange socks when I hunt for good luck." Who knows? It might be good luck for someone else, too. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 24, 2010 I just tried turning off images for the main cave. The links for the eggs also disappeared though...where'd it go? Share this post Link to post
Posted May 24, 2010 Well, someone just gifted me a CB Vine, so I am over the moon about that, but I'm still soaking in all these tips to get better at snagging what I want in the future. Hmm, maybe I'll calmly wait and see if a Paper pops up. I've seen quite a few lately... *wanders off to the cave* Share this post Link to post
Posted May 24, 2010 Do anything you have to in order to be able to refresh quickly. That half-second advantage of being the first to see something good pop up in the cave can make all the difference. That, and the recognition of the descriptive phrase without having to think about it. I recently trained myself to recognize the description for magma without thought, because it was the only one of the trio I didn't have. I caught two magmas out of the cave last week, and then yesterday "accidentally" caught a third because it was a reflex click and I literally had it before I could think about it. Posted May 24, 2010 (edited) I have a few that work for me: 1) change up your times when you "hunt" if you hunt at 5:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. every day but no other times your chances are very low you'll find, click and capture the egg(s) you want. 2) Recognize in your minds eye as someone else before me has said key words in a descpription of the egg you're looking for, for example, I've been trying to catch cb blacks and I look for the word "green". If you stop to try and read the descpription the egg will be long gone. I've caught ten cb blacks this way (three traded) and thus currently have five adults, one hatchie and one new cb black egg on my scroll just caught this afternoon and I also caught a cb silver early on Saturday morning by catching the "glow" in the description. 3) I don't use my mouse but my mousepad on my laptop now. Sometimes seeing what you want will make you shaky and perhaps misclick but that happens less using this system. 4) persistance is key too. If you can only get fifteen or twenty minutes a day on the cave due to work, school, family it *will* be harder to get those precious eggs that you desire..I'm not advocating letting any responsibilities go obviously but find a few more minutes somewhere in your schedule to give to egg "hunting." Your chances obviously increase the longer you're on. Edited May 24, 2010 by Misha Share this post Link to post
Posted May 25, 2010 Teach yourself to recognize key words and hunt for specific eggs. Once you can do that and practice catching certain eggs based on certain words, you will be able to recognize them immediately. Today, 7 AM CST, I saw 'reflective, almost metallic looking' which I have not seen in so long.... I hope whoever got it enjoys their CB gold. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 4, 2010 In the AP: I just hover on the egg with the lowest time and refresh. Generally something nice will pop up soon enough. Close to what I do. I see an egg I want, then I click it ONCE< then press F5 until "Get Code" or "View Egg" pops up. Generally, I get "Get Code", which means I got it. For cave, I kinda suck at catching those.... Getting slowly better, I'll post when I have a theory. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 4, 2010 I reflexively click on certain keywords like 'cheese', 'several', 'icicle', and 'radiant'. Other than that I read extremely fast. Share this post Link to post

Posted June 4, 2010 (edited) What gets me to be the first person to get all the eggs I need in a New Egg drop in... to tell you the truth less than 30 seconds. (1) USE FIREFOX! This browser, (for at least me) is much quicker than Internet Explorer and even Safari sometimes. There are also many add ons so you can add things to the browser to make it even better, for instance... (2) Auto Refresh! Auto refreshing relieves that constant pressing of F5, F5, F5, F5... or CTRL R, CTRL R, CTRL R, CTRL R. It gives you a lot more focus on catching the egg you need! Just look up 'Auto Refresh for Firefox' and it should usually be the first like. Download the add-on and now you can use Auto Refresh. You can use Auto refresh by 'Right Clicking' then hovering over 'Enable' then click it! (3) Turn Off Images! Yes, I know the cave can be EXTREMELY laggin' sometimes. But what helps me cure that horrible lag is, turning off the dang images! For firefox, you can click View: Options : Load Images Automatically [] < uncheck the box! Or if you have it on a Mac, just click Firefox>Preferances> and do the same thing (; (4) Use FlashBlock An effective way to also reduce lag is getting an add-on off Firefox that's called Flashblock. This just easily 'blocks' any ads in your way, or anything produced by 'flash'. This helps my lag reduce so much! =D And this is how I make my success in catching (: Edited June 4, 2010 by Passii Share this post Link to post
Posted June 4, 2010 I've been trying out most of the tips in this thread. The one that's made the biggest difference is hovering over the far right slot in the Cave, that was very useful. And hovering over the lowest-timed in the AP works great too. Surprise, I actually caught quite a few things. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 5, 2010 Today, 7 AM CST, I saw 'reflective, almost metallic looking' which I have not seen in so long.... I hope whoever got it enjoys their CB gold. I saw that once and once only...I hope so see it again or "beautiful glow" :3 Share this post Link to post
Posted June 5, 2010 My technique: Become a professional pianist and spend 5 hours a day practicing piano, which helps to hone your hand-eye coordination as well as your speed. Seriously, this really is a huge part of why I am a ninja AP hunter. I get a rhythm going for F5ing with one hand and have the other ready on the mouse. I can almost always get my mouse to the exact spot I want it with one quick move. So, yeah. There's my AP secret. Hours and hours and hours of practicing piano. I figured it out a while ago, and I spend almost 2 months out of every year practicing. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 5, 2010 (edited) I find the right two slots for the CB's the best. Usually, I just know what I want and spend some time memorizing and recognizing the description. Also, most AP hatchlings appear in the first few slots, top left. I also--for AP hunting--keep my mouse in the center for easy navagation. Also...I memorize how many eggs are in the AP, by looking at the last few and remembering the position. Then I just keep watching it and whenever it changes/grows bigger I know something's new. Also don't click randomly/continuosly: The page lags and so then you miss it. Happened millions of times. Missed a CB silver >< ah, still fuming over it. Turning off Javascript I oppose: I am a major AP hunter. Turning it off means you don't have a clue which egg is which. Edited August 20, 2016 by SockPuppet Strangler Share this post Link to post
Posted June 5, 2010 Turning off Javascript I oppose: I am a major AP hunter. Turning it off means you don't have a clue which egg is which. I always hunt in the AP with Javascript off because it's faster and you can still see the eggs. You might be confusing that with turning off "Enable Images," which would be the only reason you don't see the eggs in the AP. Share this post Link to post
Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) Simple as that. I thought there would be a thread for this but i looked through site discussion and there wasn't one. Post your tips here. My tip: Keep no more than 3 hatchis and 3 eggs on your scroll unless you see something you really need ~Merged two topics on tips~ Edited April 12, 2011 by _Z_ Share this post Link to post
Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) I like this thread. Hm. Let's see. Whenever you get four eggs, if you decide to use Incubate, use it on only three of them. This way you won't be locked with four hatchies when they come out of their shells. If you're a starter, try and get a few Reds and Pinks before starting collecting properly. Believe me, you'll need their BSAs. Watch the giving threads as often as you can. I suggest you subscribe to this topic in particular, to keep an eye out for all goodies that may be dropped. If you see users that have in their signature 'I'm breeding on request', don't be afraid to check out their scrolls and ask them to breed an egg for you. When hunting at the Cave entrance, take your time. Don't grab the first four eggs you see in less than a minute. Make a schedule if you can and have patience. Rare eggs are dropped on a daily basis, so keep refreshing. If you don't know which eggs are which, here are two lists that are of great help (for some reason, the links can't be posted as clickable): http://dragcave wikia com/wiki/Which_egg_is_which%3F http://dragcave wikia com/wiki/Dragon_Types Try and get more CBs than eggs from the AP. If you ever decide to join a project, you'll need those. Ask for help when you get stuck on something, or don't understand an aspect of the game. We all started as newbies, so there's nothing to be ashamed of. 'Sides, nobody will bite your head off. Don't kill an egg or a hatchling, abandon or release them instead. You'll be a better person for it. When hunting at the Cave entrance, keep your mouse over the third egg. The new eggs are dropped from right to left. Don't try and breed your dragons when the AP is almost empty or empty. Chances are you won't get anything. This is more like an advice than a tip. Try to always give views back. Open a hatchery (or more) that has an automatic refresher in a new tab, and leave it like that. You don't need to actually be on that page for the eggs/hatchlings to gain views. Female Vampires seem to have a better chance at successfully biting an egg that males. This is not something official, just something I noticed over the months, so then again, I could be wrong. When hunting, disable Javascript, to help the pages load faster. For Mozilla, this can be done in Tools -> Options -> Content -> and uncheck the 'Enable Javascript' box. I don't know how it is for other browsers, though. Don't try to breed Rare x Rare, they usually don't produce anything. For example, the combination Gold x Silver is almost guaranteed to never breed. You don't have to obsess over the idea that your eggs/hatchlings don't get clicks, because those don't really count. It's the views and unique views that help them grow. That's all that comes to my mind for now, but I'll edit this post whenever I remember more. Edited August 29, 2010 by Anca Share this post Link to post
Posted August 29, 2010 Unless it's a limited edition holiday release, don't go wild with catching the new eggs... like I did If you beg, you will be hated. Period. OH LOOK A SHINY :3 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 29, 2010 1.We have a Mentoring Project (CLICK HERE). A mentor can answer all your questions as a newbie, and you can ask your mentor anything that comes up even after you are officially "graduated" . 2.Most eggs need about 500 views and 250 unique views to hatch, about 1000 views and 500 unique views to mature. This is just a guideline, if you have this many stats and your egg or hatchling is at 3 days 23 hours or less (except Sunrise/sunset), your egg/hatchling may need more, just ER it (put it in an Emergency Room in a hatchery). Sunrise (6am to noon EST) and Sunset (6pm to midnight) have specific hatching times. Try to ER them if necessary, at the hatching time for the type you want. Share this post Link to post
Posted August 30, 2010 If you breed eggs and abandon them the people who receive the egg may view your scroll Share this post Link to post
Posted August 30, 2010 > The best looking eggs aren't always the rarest. Daydreams are not rare, but Silvers are. Exceptions include Ice and Thunder Dragons. Visit the wiki to find out which eggs are the rarest > If your eggs are nearing the end, put them in a Hatchery. Dragonnery is a good one. Share this post Link to post
Posted August 30, 2010 If you breed eggs and abandon them the people who receive the egg may view your scroll That's not true if they have their user name for their scroll hidden. Hmmm...something I like to do is stalk the AP during a new release, especially if it's a permanent release. Share this post Link to post
Posted August 30, 2010 -On Holiday drops always get their an hour early -Listen to some good music while you are egg hunting, perhaps a playlist for egg hunting because you'll be there a long time trust me. -NEVER give your password out NO MATER WHAT. If there is a dragon you can't catch then have it gifted to you. -In the AP always keep an eye on the eggs with 3 days or less left. They often turn out to be rares. -NEVER put your eggs in more than two hatcheries the first day you get them. Especaly if they are new releases. They will certainly get soft shell. -Just because dinos, papers, and chickens can't breed does nto mean you can't find them in the AP. It happens. -You can only get vamps out of the AP of from bitting. -ALWAYS follow the rules of a lineage to a T, never fit with normal staff or lineage staff, you will get a very bad name across the whole forum. -Have fun ^-^, hard times will come around but don't complain just keep doing your best and eventualy you will get what you want. Giving up and complaining never help you win, only trying and learning from your failor...we all had a few slaps in the face in this game but we all moved on. Share this post Link to post
