Posted March 30, 2013 I'm really interested in exotic pets, but my mom had bad experiences with them so she won't let me get any. Any one have sugar gliders? I love watching them at the pet store. Share this post Link to post

Posted March 30, 2013 (edited) I have birds, and ferrets, and rabbits! but since i already posted pictures on the rabbit thread, here are my weasels and my birdies! (Do note that i am giving links for huge pictures) The Tiels Ari http://minus.com/lhluQ7H1HBN1b Singerboy http://minus.com/loj0rL0SiDMP3 Meanboy http://minus.com/lUm2JI9RHSMdA Wendy http://minus.com/lJk9dJV9nMLWX And the finches Lux, and his Daughter Tahny (the two finches in the back are Tahny's sisters who have found a new home) http://minus.com/l1wLJI06z9Wt2 And now for the ferrets! Tubesock, my first shelter girl http://minus.com/lUo81OnW2H6LX Coda,my tiny girl http://i.minus.com/ibneXJRrMUXXb7.jpg Hagrid(and i Woah, that was when i still had red hair) sitting on the couch http://minus.com/l2yVU5mjDm2d8 Last but not least, my first ferret, the beginning of my zoo, Stiv bators! http://minus.com/liDHpn5Z5yadc Oh this thread.... As you can see in my siggy.. Sadly, my little Hagrid was PTS due to possible Lymphoma.. or a blockage. He was to weak for surgery and couldn't stay awake longer then 2 minutes Wendy had a stroke in August.. I don't know about others, but mine always tend to die in groups.. and it's horrible. But on a happier note.. i'd like to introduce the newer members of the family since my last post... Lydia, my foster ferret. She has Insulinoma, (possible adrenal disease), and a Chordoma on her tail, but she's the sweetest thing ever! http://i.minus.com/ibd8dTl9wjK01t.jpg And Ian Curtis, my newest member, rescued from going to a shelter. He's so light and pretty, i've always loved Cinnamon cockatiels(Ian is the boy on the right) http://i.minus.com/ibkZBkxYP7YnFY.JPG Edited March 30, 2013 by IcarusTheDragon Share this post Link to post
Posted April 2, 2013 I have 2 red-eared sliders, a pleco, 4 minnows, 2 of which are rosy-red, and a snail to go along with it, a white mystery snail. And my Maltese dog, if that counts.... Used to have a tropical aquarium and a paddletail newt, but it somehow escaped and died.... Share this post Link to post
Posted April 7, 2013 I used to own three ferrets...they all passed away from old age. I really, REALLY want to get another ferret - I'm hoping the next couple of paychecks I can save up enough. Cage and supplies with one and the ferret with the next. I had a resident come in on Friday with a Quaker Parrot. OMG...such a cutie! We hit it off immediately - I wanted to steal him away so bad! Posted April 7, 2013 I have 2 rats, Jack and Duke. They're awesome pets but they love to chew on plastic and fabric instead of their toys. I love them though, they're so adorable. Share this post Link to post
Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) I have 4 little ratties: Naomi, Atsuko, Kazumi and Umeko. They're such sweet little girls. I used to have a Leopard Gecko named Lizzi, but she passed away on February 16th at the age of 18. Edited April 7, 2013 by DaniBoo Share this post Link to post
Posted April 7, 2013 I have had three ferrets and several varieties of small lizards in the past. I don't intend to keep ferrets anymore, but I would love to have a rat or two sometime in the (not very near) future. My grandfather used to breed and raise quaker parrots, cockatiels, lorikeets, two varieties of finches, and a very small type of quail(can't remember what they're called). That was always fun. I have one male standard grey cockatiel now; he's approximately 16-17 years old. Share this post Link to post
Posted April 10, 2013 I just got a rat a few days ago, she was given up by her old owner who wasn't taking care of her anymore, she came to me in a small unclean cage and I was told she bit. I found out she nibbled, never bit seriously and she was smart, I cleaned an old aquarium out for her and I'm keeping her in there for a short time, next week I am getting a bigger cage and another rat friend of the same gender. I'm glad I got the chance to rescue her, have to think of a good name. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 4, 2013 Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! I heard from the breeder today, his gray is about to pop! He expects her to give birth to little gray foxes any day now! I can't contain my excitement! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Share this post Link to post

Posted May 4, 2013 We've got four exotic pets in our household, two of which are mine, but the other two are listed on my recreational wildlife license. I have an unknown gendered Eastern Blue Tongued Skink named Gizmo and a male B&G Jungle Carpet Python named Caine. My sister has a male albino Darwin Carpet Python named Jancsi-Lee and her BF has a male B&G Jungle Carpet named Link. Here are some pictures, just click the links to view. Warning, these images are fairly big (500k+). Gizmo ~ One - Two Caine ~ One - Two Jancsi-Lee ~ One - Two Link ~ One - Two They are all around four months old (born December 2012). The two Jungles, Caine and Link are brothers. To be honest, I used to be apprehensive towards snakes, venomous or not. My sister got me interested in snakes (I had just obtained Gizmo) when she started researching them, at first she wanted a Children's Python, but we couldn't find any locally. She then set her sights on a Carpet Python. More research later she decided on an Albino Darwin, while very costly they are stunning snakes once matured. He's the most placid snake we have, only ever biting twice, both occasions were completely my fault, as I startled him. The Jungles used to bite often but now only one of them does. Caine will headbutt (strike with a closed mouth), while Link bites if startled. These guys are of a subspecies that's known for bad temperaments, so being as placid as this after a month is excellent progress. Link will move pretty quick with too many people around, the most we can have nearby while he's being handled is three. I'm the only one that handles my snake, as he was a real firecracker when we first got him. I think I got tagged something close to ten times when putting him into his enclosure after we got him. My Blue Tongue, Gizmo is also quite placid, but does get a little bit huffy if approached too suddenly (will huff and flatten out to seem bigger and intimidating). He/she doesn't really care if I'm around when eating/basking, but does zip off into his/her hide when someone else enters the room. Out of all the exotics, my mother likes Gizmo the most. She won't even handle the Jungles, but she'll handle my sister's Darwin and my BTS Gizmo. For a woman who hated reptiles she's slowly coming around to them. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) 1 Bearded Dragon (Yoshi) here. I'm on beardeddragon.org as SpitFyre. Pet forums are so helpful- Yoshi probably wouldn't be as healthy as he is today if not for all of the wonderful people willing to share their knowledge and expertise. Here is a beardie feeding chart, if anyone's interested- Feeding Chart As you can see, a proper diet is a loooot of work. He's worth it, though. Here's the little bugger: Edited May 5, 2013 by Spelunker Share this post Link to post
Posted May 4, 2013 I had a leopard gecko, Happy who passed away in 2011, just made it past her 11 1/2 birthday. I think my parents unintentionally had a hand in her dying. I offered to make them a care sheet for when I went to college but they said they didn't need one. I told them to soak her feet in warm water after she sheds since she has trouble getting it off her toes and the warm water helps (she also loved the water). They held her under a faucet instead of putting a centimeter or so in her tupperware. And then changed her heat bulb with an energy save bulb. I plan on getting cockroaches for my dorm pet next year, very excited! Share this post Link to post
Posted May 4, 2013 I want a snake, lizard or rat one day. I've only ever touched a snake once at a school fair thing, although my science teacher has rats so I've had more experience dealing with rats. They're pretty darn intelligent, from what I've seen. Share this post Link to post

Pet forums are so helpful- Yoshi probably wouldn't be as healthy as he is today if not for all of the wonderful people willing to share their knowledge and expertise. Wow Yoshi is gorgeous! I refer to a feeding chart similar to that, instead designed for Blue Tongues. It's an invaluable list of knowledge, and even if making food for my little guy/gal is time consuming, it's totally worth it seeing him/her eat every last bit of food, then proceed to wipe it all over the place as Gizmo got some on his/her chin.
