Eggy Give Away! ~Game~

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the lair of the Seamstress! She is one of only about a dozen known Weaver dragons, who pride themselves in their superior sewing abilities. Each scale on a weaver dragon is a different color, and the pattern in which these colors are arranged is unique to each individual. The scales are thick, and can be peeled off in layers. These layers serve as fabric, and can be unraveled for thread or shredded for stuffing (though the Seamstress prefers to use Pillow feathers for this purpose). Despite the monumental size of these dragons, their tails taper to a point fine enough that it can be used as a needle, complete with an eye hole through which to stick thread. Through an elegant combination of tail and claw work, the Weavers can create anything from jackets for Pebble dragons to finely embroidered napkins for a hatchie’s tea set. This particular Weaver has set up a lovely shop in one of the larger uninhabited caves, and just dealt with her first wave of tiny customers.

The first group of eggies to enter the Seamstress’ shop came along with one of the other shop owners in the area, DarkDamsel09, who specializes in the baking of fine pastries. They don’t usually bring young dragons along to the shop district, but the elders at home were getting rather cranky, so the eggies got to come along anyways. There were four of them―a split, a magi, a green, and a glory drake―and as soon as they were in the shop they disappeared from their owner’s side. All through the cave they roamed, climbing up and down the shelves and admiring the fancy clothing and tapestries. There was one thing that they simply couldn’t take their eyes off of: a beautiful red cloak trimmed in gold, complete with a clasped shaped like the sun, but with a dragon curled up inside. All four stood before the cloak in awe, then ran off to beg for it. This begging soon degraded into a fight, however, for there was only one such cloak, and there were four of them. As DarkDamsel tried to explain to the youngsters that the cloak was too big for any of them anyways, the Seamstress plucked the thing off its rack, ripped out the seams, snipped the fabric into four pieces, and sewed them all up to look like miniature versions of the original. Before the eggies even had time to notice what was going on, they were all wearing little red cloaks, each fastened with a different dragon-shaped clasp. Squeaking with joy they ran around in their new attire, showing off to everyone they happened to run in to and pretending they were spies on a top secret mission for some invented king of some grand invented land. They got so carried away with their game, in fact, that they got separated, first from their owner, then from each other. Alone, the thrill of the past hour wearing off, they wandered through unfamiliar streets, searching for a landmark they might recognize. Eventually they knocked on random doors and put on their best lost-puppy look, acquiring food and a place to stay. The split is now with yaquiidru, the magi with xeyla, the green with TempestSea, and the glory with GoldRose, each a bit worried about their situation, yet still happy in their brand new cloaks.

Just as those last four troublemakers were leaving, in stumbled a pink and a bluesang, who had recently escaped the watchful eye of happyseagull. They browsed the shop for a while, treating the merchandise with far more care than the last bunch of eggies, then presented the Seamstress with their combined allowance from the past two weeks. They mutely pointed out their heart’s desire to the dragoness: a pair of stuffed toys. The pink had its eye on a beautiful white elephant plushie, with a bright red gem set in its forehead and a little embroidered blanket thrown over its back, whose label read “Warning: Squeaky!” The bluesang, on the other hand, was interested in a stunning jellyfish, crafted from a dozen different shades of blue and purple and stuffed with a substance slightly lighter than air, causing the whole thing to float wherever it was placed without rising or falling. A single one of these treasures was worth twice as much as the eggies’ money, but the Seamstress was feeling generous and gave them the toys for a bargain price. Jumping with joy, they ran back outside to find happyseagull, who had just started to worry about where they might have gone. All three headed for home, and all the way there the pink squeezed the elephant, causing it to squeak. Finally, happyseagull couldn’t stand it anymore, so it took the eggy to a house a few blocks away and offered it to the first person to open the door, Isuzu. When they returned without the pink, the bluesang went into a panic. That night, it sneaked out of the house, its jellyfish trailing along on a string, intending to find its friend. It searched and searched all night long, eventually collapsing from exhaustion on the doorstep of Mew101, who took it in and tucked it into a spare bed.

The rest of the customers the Seamstress got that day were older dragons, or humans, who caused scarcely any trouble and found their way home just fine afterwards, and with a little luck, her first customers tomorrow won’t be angry dragon keepers wondering where their eggies have gotten to.

Fortune tellers come in many flavors. There are good ones and bad ones, card readers and star readers, dragons and humans, ones with crystal balls and ones who claim they’re psychic. Eggies also come in many flavors, but all are drizzled with gullible and garnished with curiosity. Thus, when a Frill gypsy comes to town offering cheap fortunes, she immediately has a line of little customers outside her door.

The first customer to sit down at her table was a daydream eggy from the caves of eevee_em. After presenting two silver coins to the gypsy, the eggy sat back and watched as the dragoness took a minute to wriggle her frills about and hum ominously while weaving her head from side to side with her eyes closed. Then, she snapped her eyes open and said, with her most prophetic voice, “You will unknowingly complete an important mission in the future.” The daydream was delighted to hear this, but didn’t quite understand, so it presented the Frill with another coin for clarification. She rolled her eyes, but accepted the coin and repeated her prediction in simply draconic: “Someone will tell you to do something that is very important, but you won’t know it’s important until after you’ve done it.” Then she turned and disappeared through a curtain, so the daydream walked out of the shop. From that day on, the eggy aspired to do everything and anything anyone told it to do, just so it wouldn’t miss the ‘important mission’. It quickly realized that not many people ever asked it to do things, so it began responding to wishful thinking instead. Currently, it’s stuck fetching coffee every morning for SoulFeather, but it is still certain that eventually its calling will come.

The next customers to come through the door were a blue stripe, an autumn, a sunsong, and a bluesang, who had been sent out to walk for a few hours so happyseagull could take a nap. They each produced a small copper coin, which they placed in a large clam shell bowl and pushed across the table to the Frill. She was rather disappointed at how little they were paying, so she got their session over with rather quickly. “Be excellent to each other!” she boomed, and then left the eggies alone. They sat there thinking about all this for a minute, but then the gypsy came back and chased them out, claiming they were holding up the line. Once outside, they found a cherry tree (which, oddly enough, was in bloom), and sat beneath it discussing what they had heard. The stripe took the sentence literally, and the next day it began renting a small kitchen owned by girlgamerjen, where it made delicious meals and mouth watering desserts which it then brought to its three friends on a regular basis. The autumn thought it was a more general statement, perhaps referring to everyone and not just to them, so it joined an Acts of Random Kindness movement under the guidance of Guardians of Ga'hoole, and tried to do a nice thing to a random stranger every single day. The sunsong, who had a slight obsession for Terran history and culture, recognized the line as the first half of a movie reference, so it went on to do a little research and, later, host giant parties on a regular basis, operating out of Dsnake1’s airplane hanger. Then there was the bluesang, who was rather skeptical of this whole fortune telling thing, so it decided to do absolutely nothing. About a week later, however, a piano fell from the sky and almost crushed the poor youngster, so it renounced its ways, changed its name, left home to live with Singalana, and practiced excellence wherever it went.

After the Frill’s lunch break, a shy little vine from Singalana’s lair crept up to her table. “Ah! A Libra!” exclaimed the gypsy happily. Shrinking back from the large and somewhat intimidating dragoness, the eggy tried to explain that it was actually a Scorpio, but the Frill was too distracted by the large gold coin she was being handed to hear. “You know, Nix is rising in your sign this month,” she said, stroking the coin with one of her claws and already beginning to turn away from her customer. The eggy jumped up, though, and demanded some sort of explanation, but the gypsy only smiled, reminded it that it’s the journey that counts, and disappeared with the gold. For a moment, the vine just sat there and stared. Then it sprang into action, running off to a library to look up what this rising Nix might mean. Finding nothing in the first library, it rushed to the next, searching through everything from ancient Terran astrology to modern Nebula astrophysics. On and on it went, going from library to library. At this moment, it’s working through one of the largest libraries in DC, guarded and tended to by the great scholar garnetrising and their many dragons, and since it doesn’t expect to finish any time soon, it has arranged to stay with the librarians for a while.

After acquiring the precious gold coin, the gypsy was going to close shop for the day and treat herself to a fancy dinner, but before she could do so four silver eggies from the mining tunnels of Nyda marched up to the table. The Frill was taken aback, but she recovered quickly enough and extended one large claw to accept the payment. Having been expecting something good from such a shiny group, she was rather outraged when only three copper coins were handed over. In her momentary fury, she spat out the first few lines of poetry she could think of and then stood there menacingly until the eggies left. As soon as they were, out, she slammed the door, shut off her neon Open sign, and shuttered all the windows. The silvers were thoroughly confused, especially since they had no idea what a Jabberwock looked like, why they should be afraid of a bird, or what a Bandersnatch was and what it did when it was frumious. As they walked along, they became more and more paranoid about what the gypsy might have meant, and what might be lurking in the shadows. Their paranoia distracted them, and soon they were each wandering down different paths. As the sun sank below the horizon and the shadows grew longer and darker, they freaked out and ran for the nearest caves they could find. Without even asking if they could enter, they ran through the entrance and into the farthest corner of the room, where they sat shivering with terror. Not having much of a choice, the silvers were thus taken in by the owners of these caves: PieMaster, Wolv, Heeroluva, Eclipseheart.

After a few more days of taking childrens’ money in return for false prophecies, the Frill disappeared, leaving not a trace. That is, unless you count the trail of footprints leading to the next town over.
