Tales of...

More Kratos fans? Can I ask what you like about him? I'm still trying to understand why people like him.

Hee, you like Richter, Forgotten Angel? Master Richter is awesome. <3

People like Kratos because he's obviously better than you at the beginning, so people start out thinking he's awesome. Also I think it's more likely for people to like stoic characters because if a character has a more external personality a lot of people can find that annoying. Whereas, if the only time a character talks he actually says something important or cool, everyone likes him! happy.gif

Also he has a good voice! (I played English version)

That too!

I liked his voice also, My sister said he was her best friend in the game

Also, when we first played ToS2, my sister had it ploted out, who ricter was

this is her thoughts:

He is Emil's father

He is Kratos

He returned from Daris Karlan

Or

Kratos and Ricter are brothers

Both human/angels

Both a father to a main character

Hahahaha... Wow, your sis was wrong on all counts. xd.png I saw Richter, and I never thought Kratos, but it seems a lot of people did...

See, I started out seeing Kratos the same way Lloyd did--but I don't really dislike him anymore. More just find him annoying. xd.png

On Aseilia wiki page it said Ricter is said to be Kratos

Look at my avyie

Richter does seem to fill a bit of Kratos' role, but he's not related to Kratos in any way shape or form.

...But, in a way... You could, in a roundabout way consider 'Emil' to be the 'child' of Ratatosk, Aster, and Richter. 'Emil' came about because Ratatosk killed Aster, and Richter attacked Ratatosk. Without Aster and Richter and Ratatosk, 'Emil' wouldn't exist. So, in a sort of roundabout way, Richter could be considered "Emil's" father, or one of three of them.

o.=.O

ETA: So by extension, that kinda makes the Richter/Emil, Ratatosk/Emil, Aster/Emil, and Richter/Aster/Emil pairings kinda like incest, as much as it's incest between an adopted character and a non-blood-related family member. ._.

Bring it, bring the arguement of Tos!

Richter Abend

Richter Abend (リヒター・アーベント, Rihitā Ābento?) the main antagonist of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. He is a young man who first meets Emil on a journey to find the Ratatosk Core. Since he was oppressed as a half-elf child, he now hates those that oppress others; he also hates those who do not stand up for themselves. His extremely distrusting nature causes him to be harsh in order to see his goals met. He first encounters Emil while saving him from being bullied. Although the boy's timidity and passiveness irritate him, Richter resolves to teach him the basics of fighting. It is due to his inability to understand why many resign themselves to their downtrodden circumstances that he pushes Emil to become stronger through harsh means. Richter is also a member of the Vanguard, held in high esteem, and has been said to be the founder of the Vanguard combat group by Brute. He was originally a researcher at Sybak, where he was researching the spirit of Ratatosk with his close friend Aster. Together, they were commissioned to look into Ratatosk's mana: however, due to a previous betrayal by Mithos' group, the spirit's trust had disappeared. It killed Aster in a rage; since then, Richter has held resentment towards Ratatosk. His plan during the course of the game is to kill Ratatosk by making a pact with the demons of Niflheim and borrowing their power. After killing Ratatosk, he would seal the door to Niflheim to prevent access by the demons by using his own mana with the help of the Sacred Stone; an object that turns the mana in a person's body into flames. He meant to use a Cruxis Crystal to prevent himself from aging making him a permanent seal for the door. His plans fail after Emil and the party defeats him. Because Richter had forced the door to Niflheim open, he has broken its seal, thus Richter stays behind to keep the door to Niflheim closed.

[edit] Kratos Aurion

Kratos Aurion (クラトス・アウリオン, Kuratosu Aurion?) is a mysterious mercenary who is hired to accompany Colette on her journey. Though he accompanies the party for quite some time, it is later revealed that Kratos is a high-ranking angel, one of Mithos Yggdrasill's companions from the Ancient Kharlan War,[37] and a spy for Cruxis who was sent to ensure that Colette completed her task.[38] He betrays the party in the Tower of Salvation, but his true motives remain unclear until much later, when it is revealed that he is actually Lloyd's father[39] and has been searching for a way for a human to wield the Eternal Sword.[40] He was forced to kill Anna, his wife and Lloyd's mother, when she was turned into a monster by an uncontrolled Exsphere.[41]Despite his long life and many years of experience, Kratos is, up until the end of the game, a fatalist. It is Lloyd's actions that make him realize how much choice and control of his destiny he really has. Kratos, despite being human, is able to use magic through aionis, and his very body served as the seal to Origin. After the re-unification of the world, Kratos and the half-elves of Cruxis stay on Derris Kharlan where they float away, feeling responsible for their well-being. [42] Kratos serves as the main narrator of Tales of Symphonia, as well as in Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. He is revealed to be in contact with Yuan by an unknown method mentioning that it's the last time they will talk as Derris Kharlan is about to float too far away for contact

Other than the half-elf sh*t they sound alike to me, did you like the picture of Kratos?

In the fourth Tales of character popularity contest four tales characters made it onto the top ten; Lloyd Irving ranked fourth place, Kratos Aurion ranked seventh, Zelos Wilder ranked eighth, and Emil Castagnier ranked tenth. The others who made onto the top fifty are Colette Brunel who ranked fifteenth, Marta Lualdi who ranked twenty-first, Presea Combatir who ranked twenty-second, Genis Sage who ranked thirty-fourth, Richter Abend who ranked thirty-seventh, and Sheena Fujibayashi who ranked fiftieth.[108] Emil is considered fourth on the top five most irritating RPG protagonists by 1up

*Sticks tounge out* Emil is number four on the hated list!

He's probably only on that list because at the beginning he's really annoying. He gets better, though.

I also don't get the hate people have for ToS2. I didn't play the first one, but the second one was a lot of fun.

The second games doesn't present a true challenge, Example: I have tried to beat Tos1 for five freaking years, I beat ToS2 in under a week, (3 days...)

It presented enough challenge.

And you keep comparing it to ToS1. A game isn't supposed to be judged based on what ones came before it.

It's natural to compare when a game is supposed to be a direct sequel rather than simply part of the franchise. That's one of the risks being taken in doing so, particularly when characters from the first appear in the second.

---

Personally I dislike ToS2 for the tone of it. Saturday morning cartoon level humor lost its appeal once I got to being older than ten (and that was a long time ago). There was also a lot of wasted story potential- like Vesperia for the 360, the game was technically unfinished, just more obviously so. The lack of a genuine world map, for instance, was from having run out of development time.

As noted with the comment toward the humor- you could also tell it wasn't the same team writing for it. The characters from the previous game were presented in a rather flat manner; the characters native to the new game were poorly presented and relied more on humor to make the audience forgiving of that than putting any kind of truly compelling spin on it. Think of it like picking up a book using characters from a book you liked previously only to find the new author had no idea how to write for them and ruined the characters in the doing; they were just using them to sell the new characters that didn't really have much to them.

If they'd taken more time and paid more attention to the story, it could have been a great game. There was a lot of potential in the set up they chose. Instead, they delivered a half baked piece of money milking and weren't even shy to admit that's precisely what ToS2 was: milking the ToS popularity for funds while they got the next actual mothership game rolling.

For those of us disappointed in ToS2: Let's hope Tales of Graces can make up for it.

Oh hay thar. :3 Yeah, people just hate on Emmy because they don't like his start-game self. D: Meanies need to give him a chance! He's adorable, how can you hate that face? xd.png And people should take ToS2 as it's own game. When you do that, it's a good game. Compared to ToS one, people just have unreasonable expectations. (Though I personally like the cast of 2 better than 1... xd.png)

@Ryuu: Like the picture of Kratos? Not really...? It's just "meh." Personally, I don't get the similarities, besides the hair. I guess.

@Kyrieath: Really? The humor was one of my favorite parts of the game. :3 And I think that the characters could have stood on their own, if they'd chosen to put more effort into the game. But I think that Emil has pretty good character development from how he is at teh very start to the end of the game. But I do agree that there was wasted potential. They shouldn't have done it as an escort game, but a full mothership title. That could have been incredibly epic beyond words.

Did you read what it said underneath Kratos?

I have another reason for 'Emmy'

1. You just called him Emmy, indecating he is a girl

2. He is almost as gay as Dexus

@Ryuu2: Yes, my avvie's of Asch the Bloody.

@KageSora: *L* I was always a fan of the darker aspects to its predecessor and in the other Tales games as well. I certainly like humor in my games but not to the point of "Pounce and leave the eyeballs hanging in the air" sort of comedy. The only character I particularly liked out of the ToS2 cast was Tenebrae; the rest seemed fairly forgettable in comparison, at least to me.

Granted, Marta still doesn't beat out the worst Mary Sue to ever appear in a Tales game yet so at least she has that much going for her. Claire still gets that crown.

Marta is the princess Mary sue, when they get rid of clare, then ?Marta will take that spot.

Dexcus was my third favorite character, but he IS gay though, I was playing and my brother was RIGHT there, and he said, "Who is the gay kid hitting on the guy in a dress?", Everyone who was playing that part of the game burst out laughing...

Emil is gay, in a bad way though, Dexcus is an okay kind

Emil is The WORST Gary stue though, with Luke as second, wimpy little brat, isn't an awsome character till somewhat far into the game, (I mean the comic, I've never truely played the game its self, sadly)

Has anyone seen the game, Tales of Destiny? Are you stuck on part? I can help, I know the most effcective artes (Attacks) from the Manga!

@Ryuu--I did read it. I personally was like "...Meh."

Marta, however, -is- irksome. She scares me. D:

>.=.> Emil is not a 'bad' kind of gay. And "Emmy" doesn't indicate he's a girl. It's just a fan-nickname. He has several, in various communities. "Greenie", "Emmi", "Emmi-chan", and others. They're used more in the way you'd use them for a little boy--an "aw, he's so cute" kind of way, not in a degrading way as if to mock him. Emil may not be the most manly of characters, but just giving him a nickname of the sort does not automatically make him feminine.

Besides, he's got the right idea. He's totally in love with Richter. xd.png

Decus isn't gay--he's an Alicesexual. tongue.gif Honestly, seeing as Alice isn't a male, he can't be gay as he's madly in love with her.

And, about Emil... You should try taking into account the -reason- for his behavior. He does have damned good reason to be rather wimpy, after all. Did you -talk- to the people around Luin at the start? How they treated him? He delt with that for a few months. That's enough to crush anybody's self-worth. And his uncle abused him physically, not just verbally. (In a skit, we get the lines from him "Uncle Alba was really angry. I... I wonder if he'll hit me again."). And the verbal abuse was bad, too. He refers to Emil as a "demonic little brat" and quite obviously means that he feels that way at the time.

He's not just wimpy because he's a wuss, he's had any self-worth he'd had beaten out of him physically and verbally, so he doesn't resist anymore until Richter shows up.

I suppose, however, my reasons why I like him are more personal, and make it hard to understand why people hate him.

@Kyrieath: I do love the darker stuff, but I did like the lightening the mood stuff (even the extreme comic stuff), too, but I can understand what ya mean. :3

So, who's a Tales fan, and whats your favorite/least favorite game? What games have you played, how'd you get into the games? Who are peoples (least) favorite characters from the games they've played? Of all time? Things you did(n't) like about a game?

Favorite: Tales of Symphonia

least favorite: I think Abyss but only because I got stuck good on it.

played: Symphonia 1 and 2 and Abyss.

I've beaten Tales of Symphonia 1 about 5 times and 2 once, but only because one of the last bosses are really F***in' hard. Had to train for a week in between work and life. Never beaten Abyss, as said, because I got stuck on it and can't get out, partially because I need to rent it again and start a new file to remember what's going on and all.

My favorite characters: Kratos, Lloyd, Raine, Genis, Yuan, and Regal from Symphonia 1. From Symphonia 2: Emil, Ratatosk, Aster, Raine((If that counts)), Yuan((again, if that counts)), and Richter.

My least favorite characters: Collete, Marta, Alice, and most of the bosses because they're annoying.

My favorite of all time: Kratos, Raine, Yuan, Emil, Ratatosk, Aster, and Richter.

I didn't like that the story progressed slowly at the beginning of Tales of Symphonia 1. But the fact that it picked up and had a great sequal are a good thing.

I can't say anything about Abyss, because I haven't played it in atleast 3 years.

As you're another Kratos fan, can you explain to me why you like him so much? :3

Glad to see another person that doesn't hate ToS2 as a sequel.  :3

Aster's seems pretty cool. Even though we never really "see" him. Emil's just cute with that blondeness of his. I wonder if Aster was the same way. Richter's pretty cool. He seems like the older-brother kind of person. As for Ratatosk, I hate the fact that he uses someone to protect himself.... But he makes up for it.

As for the bosses, it was only Dexus and Alice when we battle both in the Ginungagup. I tried what you did at first, even with a walk through, but I always got my A*s kicked. So I leveled up myself, well, Emil.... and Marta.... Ick.... which leveled up my 2 best monsters. My Fenrir and my Cerberus.

As for Kratos, I love him! He's cute! Plus, you gotta feel bad for him. That and my favorite pairing is Kratos and Raine.

I actually like the sequel. I have heard a lot (two words, not one) of people are dissapointed with it, but I don't see why. I mean, yeah, it's abit harder to level up since you don't get random battles on the field, you actually gotta go to places that have monsters and fight there. It's taken me 3 days inbetween work and life and level up Emil from 23 to 30 just to fight the Nadrovia/Light Frog off easier and I still haven't faced it yet because I got hooked on playing another game for another system, that controller went crazy, and while waiting for the replacement to come back from across the country, I got hooked on a game I rented, then bought, and now I haven't played any games for about a week....

Pardon my talking on and on. And yes people, I know, you don't wanna hear my life story or anything like that. Sorry.

OH! Forgot to mention, I can't stand Zelos either.
