Posted October 25, 2011 So, Tales of the Abyss for the 3DS... Delayed for the EU release, and set for Feb. 14th for the NA release (for now). At least, that was what it was last I heard. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 28, 2011 my friend and her brother are serious Tales fans, especially the brother. i played through tales of symphonia, though not alone, with them...i just helped in the battles. it was fun and the story was great. my favorite character has to be kratos. my friend's brother says he hates tales of symphonia 2 because it doesn't fit into the timeline or something and calls it "non-canon" to the other tales games. i've never played it so i wouldn't know if it was true or not. tales of the abyss looks fun, though once again, i've never personally played it. i always just kind of watch them two play the games and i sort of know what's going on. in abyss, my favorite character is either asch or jade...of course, haha. A Kratos fan! -pounces- Why is he your favorite? What do you like about him? I'm always curios to find out why his fans like him. :3 Hah, that's funny, considering ToS one is a PREQUEL to Phantasia! ToS2 helps explain some of the discrepancies between the end of ToS and the start of ToP, IIRC. It's also kinda funny considering that most of the other Tales games aren't "canon" in relation to one another--they're set in entirely different worlds, that work different ways. Most people just don't like ToS2 because the main cast from ToS1 doesn't show up as more than fanservice, they changed a lot of the VAs, and people felt it wasn't a properly finished game... To be fair, though, it's not a "mothership" title and is a side-game. The game gets a great deal of hate even as it gets some very intense love--it's very much a "love it or hate it" game. I don't think I've actually talked to more than a tiny handful of people, if that, who played the game start to finish and were in the more middle ground on it. I'm firmly in the "love it to death" camp myself. I personally would say give it a shot, but keep in mind that it's a prequel that's a sequel to another prequel. Abyss is fun. :3 I should finish it, lol. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 19, 2011 So, a question for everyone. I'm going to buy a ps3 soon, and I know I want to get Abyss, but which Tales of games do you guys reccomend? Since a bunch of the ames are described as amazingness here... They all sound so interesting... :{ Having a tough time deciding which I should get/ask for. I also have a WII and ds(The one that can play GBA games) So... Which do you all reccomend? Share this post Link to post
Posted November 19, 2011 Hm. Symphonia is always good, and you can play it on your Wii. There's Phantasia for GBA, and I've seen one in every Gamestop I've ever been to for 5 bucks I've never beat it so I can't really recommend it, but if it's cheap and easy to find... We don't have anything for PS3 yet, but Graces is coming out next year for that. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 19, 2011 Graces is my main reason for getting the playstation, but since it's not going to be out for a little while I thought I'd get some other PS Tales of games. And also, I loved Smyphonia, I have both the games. That's why I'm so interested in the games ;P My sister bought me the original Smyphonia, and I just(literally, like, seven days ago) beat it, and she got it for me WAAYYYYY back when it first came out. I had such high hopes of Dawn of the new World... It only took me three monthes to finish that one... Share this post Link to post

I had such high hopes of Dawn of the new World... It only took me three monthes to finish that one... Graces is the main reason I got a PS3 myself. If you're looking for PS2 games, though, you'd best have a PS2 already, since most of the PS3s aren't backwards compatible with the PS2 games. Which is stupid, but... Yeah, ToS2 was short. I loved it, but I wish it had been longer... Still, for it's length, and considering it's an escort title not a mothership title, I thought it was great. Do wish it could have been a mothership title, though... That and I hate what they did to Lloyd's character. I will admit that I really don't like what they did to Lloyd. Much as I love the game, they defiled his character. The old cast was just fanservice, and honestly shouldn't have been there. They could have focused on the new cast completely and made it even better, and the old cast wouldn't have been defiled in the way they were. That's really my only real gripe with the game. Actually, much as I love the game now, originally I hated it. It took me months to actually beat it because I started it up shortly after I got it (release day), and just couldn't stand what happened to Lloyd, but I made myself play it and came to love it. But if it wasn't for my being curious about the bad ending of the game, I probably wouldn't have picked it back up, I hated what they did to Lloyd so much. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 20, 2011 The old cast should've just been cameos, instead of blatant fanservice. Half the time it doesn't even make SENSE that they would be where they show up, and they were basically just abused for the fanservice. The way they treated the cast made me "disown" it as canon. Speaking of casts, I was never able to be nearly as endeared to ToV's cast as ToS's. I've heard some people say that ToV is the best, but in terms of story I have to very much disagree. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 20, 2011 Yeah, that would have been a lot better. If they'd had more time and funds to devote to it, they probably could have made bringing in the original cast work. But they couldn't, and settled for a bad fanservice job... It's really sad. It lowers the potential that this game could have had to be even better (and to have less haters), and just... Sad. :< Much as I love the game, I can understand that. I think that's a very valid reason. :3 Mmm, I personally like Yuri a lot more than any other protagonist (except perhaps Emil) so far (only just got to the point where the truth about Judy is revealed), but the story... It's not as... Deep, I suppose, as the other games' stories. I love Repede, though. And Rita. Estell... I kinda like her, but mostly because she's a heal *. Karol I pity, and Judy needs to put her boobs away. Seriously. :| Raven... It's funny when they gang up on him, but otherwise there have been much better characters in the Tales series. I mean, I do find the story interesting. And I love playing. But it's not as deep, at lest not so far, IMO. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 20, 2011 The problem with it being deep is mostly the problem I have with it. I like the character fine enough, but I don't feel like I ever really learned enough about them like in ToS. There are a few moments later in the game that I thought really paled in comparison to similar events in ToS. To be fair, I haven't explored all the sidequests. I wouldn't have thought Zelos a particularly deep character either if I hadn't done his quests. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 22, 2011 ToS United World Trailer This... is making me fangirl. Just a little longer till it comes out~ Spoilers if you haven't played Symphonia. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 22, 2011 ffffffffff apparently I need to watch the rest of the tethealla season because I need to see that. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 23, 2011 AWWWW! I so totally cannot wait for that. I'm alread thinking this will be my favorite of all the seasons. Share this post Link to post
Posted December 11, 2011 I have only played tales of symphonia dawn of a new world, but I love that game so much, it one of my favorites undoubtedly, because in my book if a game can have you on the edge of your seat wondering what happens next, you can't put the controller down, epic plot twists and turns you didn't see coming, and in the end had you crying, half the reason because it's over, then that is the best game ever Share this post Link to post
Posted December 11, 2011 Whoooo! Another ToS2 fan! We seem to be few and far between. You should definitely check out more games in the series--it's a great series and generally the characters and stories are really good. Music is great, too! Share this post Link to post

Perhaps it's because it was a bit of letdown. I personally loved it, but some people thought it was just eh. Share this post Link to post
Posted December 11, 2011 Yeah, it's really a "love or hate" kind of game. People were comparing it to a mothership title when it was an escort. But I've never actually seen people who thought it was just "meh" or anything. I've only seen love or hate so strong they sometimes refuse to acknowledge that it even exists. </3 Share this post Link to post
Posted December 11, 2011 I don't think I would be able to play symphonia1 though, I already know what happens and I'm just to used to Emil There were very few things that bothered me, one being how their mouths moved and their faces looked flat, though I got used to it and it kind of grew on me Share this post Link to post
Posted December 11, 2011 Oh, I would definitely suggest ToS1 anyway. Even if you know "the world is saved and the two are reunited" it's a great story of how it happened. Tales of the Abyss is also good, if you've a PS2 and can find a copy or if you've a 3DS--it's out in the EU, if you're in the States it'll be out Feb. 14th. (I'd suggest pre-ordering, the EU release seemed to have been handled rather poorly with too few copies to go around even to the people who pre-ordered... Not sure what went wrong there...) If you've a 360, Tales of Vesperia is great. (I'm playing it all the time right now. I love how invincible Rita is when you get her leveled up in in Over Limit. Blah blah blah, CRIMSON FLARE! Nothing stands before it. ) And if you've a PS3, I'd suggest pre-ordering Graces f, it looks to be a great game. Share this post Link to post
Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions! :L I don't have any of the newer systems (The newest are my DSI and Wii) But I do have a PS2 so I'll looking into that one :3 Share this post Link to post
