Book Title: Centennial

Author:  James Michener

Summary: Written as a tribute to America's bicentennial celebration, Centennial is an epic novel of the history, land, and people of Colorado. Centered around the fictional town of Centennial, the story contains an extensive cast of characters including Native Americans, French fur trappers, English noblemen, and American cowboys, all caught up in the dramatic events and violent conflicts that shaped the destiny of the legendary West.

Review: I am not a speed reader, so it has taken me quite awhile to get through this book, but I found it fascinating. I could have skipped the first chapters about the geology and the prehistoric animal life of the area, but once we got to the people and their intertwining stories I was hooked.

Book Title: The Duke and I

Author:  Julia Quinn

Summary: This is the first book in the Bridgerton series of Regency romances. The book follows Daphne Bridgerton, the fourth child and eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family, in her quest for love and marriage. What starts as a sham romance between Daphne and Simon Basett, Duke of Hastings, designed to protect him from marraige-minded society mothers and their daughters and to make Daphne seem more attractive to eligible bachelors, becomes only too real and complications result.

Review:  Most of the book was enjoyable, light reading, but predictable in spite of being totally unrealistic. The characters were mostly formulaic and overdone -- particularly Daphne's overprotective brothers!

Book Title: Once Upon A Broken Heart
Author: Stephanie Garber

so, Garber's og trilogy (caraval) was so boring to me, very overhyped and it was frustrating because i wanted to love it and just couldn't. This one was enthralling from the beginning to the end and I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel

Book Title: The Recovery Agent

Author:  Janet Evanovich

Summary: Gabriella Rose is a recovery agent. She works for companies or individuals to recover lost or stolen items or uncover insurance fraud. But her latest job is purely personal. Possibly aided by a ghost, definitely aided by ex-husband Rafer, and inspired by old family legend, she sets off for Peru in search of the Seal of Solomon and the lost Treasure of Lima. Together they attempt to keep one step ahead of a dangerous drug lord who is seeking the same treasure.

Review: An enjoyable caper if you can suspend disbelief.

Book Title:  Harbor Nocturne

Author: Joseph Wambaugh

This puts an end to my run of Joseph Wambaugh novels, and while I've enjoyed rereading them, I'm glad to be moving on.  While Wambaugh is great with character development, much of the humor in his tales was timely when published, but unless you're old like I am, you might not get some of it.  This last five books are actually a set which follows the same group of cops throughout.  It's good reading if you are looking for some lightweight police fiction.
