Posted April 24, 2022 im not entirely clear on the trading guidelines when it comes to using dragon cave dragons / eggs as payment for custom art? am i allowed to do that? i don't think i am but i was just curious 😄 Share this post Link to post
Posted April 24, 2022 Trading stuff outside of the game for in game stuff is against the terms of service. I believe digital art still falls under this rule. Share this post Link to post
Posted April 24, 2022 I remember there was Art Request Thread. Seems like some of them requested arts for eggs. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 17, 2022 So is it or is it not against the rules? I feel like we have conflicting answers here. I would also like to know. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 19, 2022 I know money or anything off-site is against the rules. But I can't find the post that set that out - YET. I THINK it is OK to offer an egg for and ask for art, but.... Share this post Link to post
Posted May 19, 2022 The terms and conditions of DC itself make it clear that you can't exchange dragons for any kind of currency, real or virtual (for example if you also played Flight Rising and tried to exchange treasure for a DC egg, that would be a breach of DC rules). But while I also recall it being against the rules to use anything off-site for trades, I can't find a post to that effect either, at least not in any of the standard places here in the forums (I checked the guidelines, and rules of specific sub-sections such as trades). Posted May 19, 2022 I wonder if it's one of those things where the letter and spirit of the rule differ?  Like, technically the exact wording pertains to currency only, but in practice it's enforced for other things? (Or maybe only user-enforced for non-currency things--that is, users consider it inappropriate to trade for anything other than on-site dragons and/or the promise of said dragons (aka IOUs) but it isn't technically against the rules?)  Definitely would be helpful to have an official ruling to clear up if this is a common user misconception (or, possibly, a remembrance from an old version of the rules that's since changed?) or if there is a clarification somewhere that's just being overlooked. (And if there is a clarification somewhere, it'd be useful to have it edited into the official T&C) Share this post Link to post
Posted May 19, 2022 I see how they would not want you to trade IRL currency or virtual between websites for DC eggs because that seems against the spirit of the game and makes it "pay to win." But in my opinion trading art is harmless and I don't think it's much different that trading x egg for y egg. Both people receive an image of something that they coveted and is special to them, and no object involved in the trade inherently has any monetary value. (if the artist claims the value of their art is x egg then that is what it is worth.)Â Share this post Link to post
Posted May 20, 2022 You cannot, the rule stating you could was really old and we forgot to change it with the guideline updates. I've already edited an instance of it, but I'll edit more if they come up. Share this post Link to post

I've already edited an instance of it, but I'll edit more if they come up. Will this be added to the on-site terms and conditions?  If not, then is it a forum-only rule rather than an actual in-game rule? I understand that it would be pretty difficult to police outside of official communities but it's not like you can actually easily police people paying money (real or virtual) for dragons if it happens outside of an official community, either.  (Mainly I feel that the exact yes-or-no things like this need to either be on the main site itself, or there needs to be an official clarification thread somewhere that is linked to on the T&C page because not all players also use the forums after all) Share this post Link to post
Posted May 20, 2022 I believe @purpledragonclaw is taking care of this as we speak, Things like that are harder to amend on short notice than popping a remark in a thread. At least we now know for sure. Share this post Link to post
Posted May 21, 2022 This is in the current on-site ToS. Dragons can't be traded for any outside currency, real or virtual. This includes art. The thread in original works was antiquated from before the current ToS was written as far as I know. It just seems like it was forgotten about, sorry! Share this post Link to post

It just seems like it was forgotten about, sorry! I'd just like to point out that it should likely be clarified that "currency" also includes such things. I see "currency" and my thought is "real-world money, or the equivalent in a game" not "goods or services such as production of art" because art doesn't parse as a currency to me. If I weren't on the forums I would assume, since no actual money (real or in-game) is changing hands, then it's completely fine to trade for art or for items in other games and such.  [Not trying to be, like, difficult or snarky--just trying to point out that there is a very real and valid interpretation of "currency" to only include money or an in-game money equivalent rather than as a broad label for all goods, services, and currencies that are not in-game critters and some on-site clarification might be helpful for people who don't read it the same way it's intended.] Edited May 21, 2022 by KageSora Share this post Link to post
