At every 5 minutes, every 10 minutes and the beginning of the hour is a favorite catching time.

To clarify, the current eggs in the cave shuffle every 5 mins. Brand new eggs spawn every hour.

Is that true? During releases, the biomes get emptied but are filled at the five minute mark in small quantities. Same seemed to happen to the holiday biomes.

 

Are you saying that if there was an effort to grab every egg from the volcano at :00, there would be no more eggs in the volcano for an hour?

Afaik there are small 'refills' at :5 min intervals if a biome is empty, but I don't know exactly how that behaves. On the hour all previous eggs go bye bye and brand new ones spawn.

That's interesting, could also explain why certain rare breeds are ungodly scarce to find in the biomes; they're not only fighting against the ratios to spawn, but get stuck behind commons and baleeted each hour. A vicious cycle.

I'm not even sure that happens.

There have been times when the spawn failed on the hour and there were no eggs at all in the cave until the next hourly. And that even happened during one of the Halloween releases, iirc.

Well, it's at least *supposed* to happen. The old ones get deleted (easy, always works), and then another job should run that generates the new eggs based on ratios and people in biomes or whatever - which sometimes doesn't seem to work. Since TJ doesn't disclose any of the mechanics, we can only speculate on the reasons, but observations point to "that's how it works."

I assume that the hourly generates all the eggs for the hour, but only spawn some of them right away, reserving the rest to be scattered throughout the 5 min drops. We just don't see it adding more eggs in a full biome. This would explain why a failed hourly means no 5-min drops unless they're manually fixed, and why we also see 2 or 1 egg biomes "refill" even if they're not technically empty.
