Scroll Cleaning

Recommended Posts

I'm doing a bit of scroll cleaning.
I collected a horde of spitfire dragons, most of them CB or short lineaged, when they were a breed for the holly contest, and then because - well, why not?
But now they are too many. So, I spent three days releasing a ton of my spitfires (2249 - I copied the action log to keep tracks of the codes and the total number).
Now, I'm cleaning a bit the rest of my scroll: horryble lineaged hoarded when I didn't care about lineage, old never-finished project, unproductive members of projects... Black, striped, halloween, Xmas and Valentines, but mixed breeds, too.
With so many breeds of dragons, and few time to work on projects, I decided I want a cleander scroll, without walls of unusefull dragons.

Have you ever "cleaned" your scroll? Why and when? What did you release?

I also cleaned my scroll a few months ago. I hadn't played for a while, and when I came back again I decided to start a "little" project to get perfect matching mates for every single one of my dragons.

I released everything that was inbred, messy or wrongly gendered. I don't know how many dragons I released in total, but I'm pretty sure it was somewhere around 1000-1500.. :D

I have done several purges of my Scroll by now. I started playing in October 2008, and in that time "messy" lineages were still comparatively few, and at that time I was fascinated to see dragons that had different breeds in their lineage, and if you got a 4th or 5th generation from the AP this was quite a find.

You need to remember that there was no influence or any other BSA available at the time, so breeding a checker was really time consuming as dragons usually gendered wrong. Thus I had numerous dragons with two breeds that were "clean", but not perfect checkers.

So I did one first purge where I threw out all messies in 2010 or so. I kept the imperfect checkers a while longer, but when Influence allowed it to easily create checkers, I threw out the imperfect ones a while later.

Some weeks ago I started another big purge as I wanted to clean up my PB lineages into "internal" ones (all CBs only from my Scroll) and "external ones" where the CBs are from Scrolls of other people, thus the mixed ones got the boot and I rebred them partly from scratch, so now my PB lineages look like this:

Internal:

https://dragcave.net/lineage/AV8nn

https://dragcave.net/lineage/WGzed

https://dragcave.net/lineage/oMPAQ

https://dragcave.net/lineage/2P315

https://dragcave.net/lineage/nsero

External:

https://dragcave.net/lineage/BuJpq

https://dragcave.net/lineage/3iQ6F

https://dragcave.net/lineage/lMuRR

https://dragcave.net/lineage/O9bKE

https://dragcave.net/lineage/2z8Gg

This allows for an easier maintenance of my lineages, and my Scroll becomes more of a work of art :D

I've done a few over the years. When I first started, I was grabbing everything in sight, just to get the breed on my scroll. After I'd got it established, I decided on a clear out between new releases, and get CB's of everything.  Got rid of loads of messies.  I do have messies on my scroll now but use them for zombie breeding.

Which brings me to up to date clear outs. I'm on a mission to get a full set of zombies so over the last few months, as I've got the sets, I've got rid of the messies used.  I hasten to add that it's a very difficult mission, so I'm not expecting another purge this year!

Howdy!
So apparently I've had my DC account since 2009 and I haven't actually been active since 2013 and I just got reminded of this place in the past month, so I'm probably going to start cleaning out mine soon. Man, I wish there was some way to like, trade adults instead of only release them, but oh well. I probably have some old CB dragons from their release, which I'll definitely keep hehe.

Honestly, I've never actually cleaned or thought of cleaning my scroll (in my 10+ years here, I think I've released maybe 10 dragons)

I just don't have the time to check everything I don't "need" and since breeding is few and far between for me...its even less of an issue

I do breed a lot but that doesn't mean I'd start releasing dragons XD Adult scroll space is infinite, after all, and sometimes even the messiest lineage carry something special.

I take the chaos on my scroll as a challenge to manage by sorting, not by releasing.

I’ve done several purges. Came back recently after a two year hiatus and dumped everything that wasn’t CB, useful for lineages, or pretty lineages. I even purged my metals for everything that wasn’t 2nd gen or a perfect checker. Before that I released everything that had a long lineage, everything messy, everything with a lineage that wasn’t a pattern, and everything inbred. I started back in 2008 and didn’t care about any of that. Now I play for lineages.

The only breeding I do is for zombie fodder, and on the odd occasion to help out. I'm a collector, really. I love the fact that when there's a new release, I'm able to dump all eggs on my scroll.  It would drive me crackers to either have an egg I wanted to keep or be held up by a pending trade.

I've only ever done one actual 'purge', way back in 2010, and I think even then it was less than 100 dragons. Probably way less. I took screenshots of my scroll before releasing anything, but looking at those screenshots now I can't figure out why I released the ones I did? A few sprites I didn't really care for, and I guess I may have been trying to downsize those breeds to only 'essentials' or whatever.

I do still have my own way of 'cleaning' my scroll, though not through releasing. I have way too many old common cavebreds that I've never bred or done anything with, so they are in a group as possible zombie fodder. Much easier than taking up growing-slots for fodder, and I make sure none of them have offspring so I don't accidentally mess up anyone's lineages or whatever.

I don't clean my scroll even if that has been a bit challenging to my mind and personality because I'm the kind of person who's always obsessed about keeping everything in order. I have considered releasing a whole bunch of dragons quite a few times but I still have some reasons to not do it. Firstly, some of my very first dragons are really messy and I also bred messies myself in the beginning, back then I didn't care about lineages at all. I'm being too sentimental about those to let them go, in fact I can't even steal their names, some of which I really like, to use on my newer dragons and rename the old messies. :D Secondly, if I were to release anything, I would probably get rid of all dragons that aren't CBs, 2nd gens or nice EGs as well as everything misgendered or miscoloured. I can't do that because some of the dragons that would have to go were gifted to me.

So instead of cleaning by releasing, I clean by organising. I sort my dragons really strictly into private groups. I have own groups for CBs and the types of lineages that I like to breed and collect, which also makes breeding easier for me. Everything else belongs to the miscellaneous group but that doesn't make them rubbish that I could just discart. :P The only things I have removed from my scroll were a few zombies when I at some point decided I don't want to have them anymore and utilised the expunge action. That might have had to do with all the morphologies getting their own sprites and the fact that I absolutely hate having dead eggs or dragons on my scroll. I would have had to kill many dragons to get all those sprites so I think I just made the decision that zombies aren't for me at all.

I purged my scroll way back after I learned what clean lineages were. I released a lot of messy/inbred/long-lined dragons, including some of the first I ever owned. I haven't done anything like that recently.

I also released a lot of inbred dragons when I started trying to make breeding lists, mostly so I wouldn't pick them by accident when trying to breed lower-lineaged ones. Groups have helped a lot with that!

Sometimes I also release dragons I wanted to freeze or trade if I accidentally let them grow up and it's a lineage I don't think I'll be continuing.

My scroll cleaning is going! I released around 150 black dragons, 30 whites and over 100 marrows. Today or tomorrow will be the day of shadow walkers and skywing, and valentines with lineages I'll not prosegue. It's a long, long work.

I'm re-doing my all-blood breeding project, using all cb from my scrolls (except shimmer, tinsel and 2 on 3 snowangels), so I'll have a lot of dragon from the old version of the project to release.

i had my scroll since i was pretty young... i wasn't too concerned with clean or pretty lineages, but now i am. so slowly but surely, a little bit at a time i'll clear some out and re-organize. i try now to keep mostly cbs or nice lineages.
