If you want to understand why Donald Trump is the way he is, then yes, it's a fascinating read. Very depressing, but very real, and it explains everything from his past to his current behaviors. Book 11 is wonderful, but if you read it, be prepared for some descriptions of animal cruelty. Anna Sewell intended the book to encourage the more humane treatment of horses - and it worked, too. After publication, the use of the check-rein, or bearing rein (which forced a carriage horse's head into an unnatural and painful position) quickly fell out of favor. It's considered a children's classic now, but back when it was written, it was intended for adults so the author didn't hold back in describing cruel practices in order to illustrate exactly why those practices were cruel. Posted September 3, 2020 Book Number: 2 Number Of Pages: 317 Book Title: The Running Man Author: Stephen King (Richard Bachman) Summary: In the far-off future of 2025, Ben Richards is desperate for money for his young daughter's medicine. With no other options, he signs up to appear on one of the many popular game shows, where contestants risk life and limb for cash prizes, and is selected for the highest-stakes game, The Running Man. The longer he can stay ahead of the Hunters and stay alive, the more money he earns for his wife and daughter. If he can make it a full month, he'll even get away with his life. Review: I don't love King-as-Bachman and find his works hard to get through. The dystopian future setting was also a little too close to our current reality (or just too depressing for my current mood), but overall it was probably my favorite of his Bachman works that I've read so far. That isn't exactly high praise, but if you enjoy dystopian stuff this was actually worth a read. Share this post Link to post
