Holiday Mini Games Archive

Recommended Posts

tl;dr make a website that archives the holiday mini games so we can play past years games year round.

During the holidays--a grand time for dragon cave--we all come together as a community to catch dragons new and old and play fun mini games. However, when the holidays end and most everyone steals and breeds the dragons they've been waiting a year for, the mini games we've all been playing and sharing together fade away as quickly as they came, never to be played again. This, is a tragedy.

alright I cant keep this smart well worded act up.

this is a petition for TJ to just make a dragon cave sub site so we can play our mini games

Yes -- but only the RPGs. I'd love to be able to return to games like Mana Alchemy (   ), that tower defense game from last Halloween or the Minesweeper game from the Halloween event before that, and so on. I know they're all based on specific types of games available elsewhere on the internet, but so far I haven't been able to find any game that'd play almost exactly like how Mana Alchemy does, and it's the game I want to replay the most. So, this suggestion has my full support -- because why not? It's not like you gain any kind of on-site benefit from replaying all these old minigames, it's totally harmless and fine to make them available all year round.

I would love to train my decorating skills off-holiday. At the time those games are up I'm usually way too stressed for trying to be creative :(

I would love to play with those if it didn't permanently change my original design! That was why I wouldn't touch them over the holiday season.

I suspect if this proposed archive would be offsite like the Valkemarian Tales, they wouldn't have access to your original design at all. There would need to be a different way to store your any new design, maybe with accounts that are linked to one's DC account (read-only via the API, like Evina's or the DCrecords site).

I think keeping it simple is the best idea! Linked accounts sound stressful to code. What if you could just decorate, save & finish, and have an option to download the image like any other character creator/design flash game? And you could play the decoration games infinitely from scratch whenever you wanted!

Leave that to TJ to decide. Remember, DCrecords is his own site, too.

I know it’s up to TJ! I just figured the simpler the execution of this suggestion, the higher the likelihood of it getting done ☺️

Yeah - Valkemare isn't linked to this site at all.

Same. And I'd play the Tetris wrapping paper puzzle all the time.

Me too! I meant to mention how much I loved that game. :)

Oh man! I would love to have access to Tree decorating, Wreath and Gingerbread House at times outside holiday stress times! Not averse to access to the others, too. It would be great if TJ could do this.

I think it would be awesome if all the old events/mini games were linked and archived on the Dragon Cave website itself.

NOT on the site - I would want to be TOTALLY sure nothing could affect the things I have done - my forts, tree, etc. Though the interactive (allegedly) ones like forts - you'd need other players in there, so would they actually be worth it ?

Why not on the site? Just don’t change your things if they’re complete. But other mini games like mana alchemy and contagion would be nice to be able to access, and why not have them on DC? I know I’d also love to be able to revisit the text-based events—the unofficial wiki doesn’t have everything perfectly recorded. The 2014 Halloween carnival is missing entirely, which is unfortunate since it was my first event as a DC player and I remember enjoying it immensely.

Well, that is exactly what I did at Christmas this year, but I would love to be able to try some different things without destroying my original designs. It was really disappointing to me that I couldn't touch them if I wanted to keep the historic designs, which I happen to like. There are so many other possibilities that I would like to play around with, but I had to make a choice between trying something new and destroying my original or just opting out of the game entirely.

Exactly - it would be fun to make a NEW tree, wreath etc. But not at the risk of losing the one I made in the first place.

The 2013 carnival? https://dragcave.fandom.com/wiki/Halloween_Carnival 2014 was a second haunted house.

Sorry if this counts as Necro-ing, I didn't want to make a thread on this if the topic already existed, and this topic says kinda what I want to.

I enjoy the holiday games and would love to replay Alchemy, cooking/finding ingredients, or DC Minesweeper. For some of the events:

~For things like decorating (That Valentine's cave idea, and of course the Christmas ones), maybe give the option of if you want to save the newly made thing, or keep the old one. So if you just want to play it, you can and then just close out (and get a pop up that asks if you would like to keep this design but the old one would be overwritten)

~If you want to do the cooking game, maybe a button after you click the badge, you get the message saying if you activate it, ingredients will be in the cave (and you can toggle it on and off).

~For the events that involve interacting with other users I'm unsure how to proceed. Maybe just keep them out of this? The notes are cute but I feel like it could get abused (maybe?) and some people don't want to alter their vases.

~For the ones that are actually just games/stories, just clicking the badge gives the option to play it?

Did I not add my support for this earlier? Because yes please! I've mentioned around here multiple times how much I looooved that Tetris holiday mini-game, and I've searched online endlessly and haven't been able to find another game exactly like it (ie, not falling-blocks, ability to turn pieces, shows all pieces at once, etc). I would love love love to be able to play that whenever I wanted!

I do think that if it were onsite there should definitely be a way to play around with them without messing with your original (as much as I loved the whole 'bringing back all the old games' last year it was soooo frustrating that you couldn't play *and* keep the old stuff). Which is why I think it'd work better off-site, not necessarily tied to scrolls at all, just a site that hosts the old events that you can mess around with whenever.

A second site with all the games (including decorating wreaths/trees/houses) would be better in my opinion.

This way, you don't run the risk of messing up your original designs, and can still have fun. Downfall is no way to share/save the designs save taking a screen shot unless that site needed an account too. *this issue can be eliminated if it's considered a new wreath, tree, etc.*

But then again, the tetris and alchemy puzzles can be found in non-DC variants, and there's also the matter of sprites and the like being used offsite...

TL/DR: Would I play/decorate the games if we had them on site or on a separate site? Yes. Provided they are "new" and don't mess with anything prior
