History:

The Gladers have escaped to an island they call the Safe Haven they came there with the Right Arm and the other Immunes after WICKED collapsed. A lot of their friends have died, including Alby, Chuck, Teresa and Newt.

Canon characters:

You can read here for the books and here for the movies (this RP follows the books)

My non-canon characters:

Swift

Username: Swiftphoenix

Name: Swift (Named Marie by WICKED but she hated that)

Gender: Female

Looks(image and/or description): Tall and slim, with long brown hair and blue eyes. Usually wears a brown leather jacket with a T-shirt and jeans and sometimes a battered cowboy hat she nabbed off of a Crank. She likes to carry around an old pumpkin-shaped box she found; it tickles a memory in her mind but she can’t quite reach it. The object brings inevitable teasing from Thomas, Minho and Newt.

Physical strengths(can be included in Abilities instead): See Abilities

Physical weaknesses(can be included in Abilities instead): See Abilities

Personality(include good and bad, nobody's perfect): Witty, stubborn and sarcastic at times. Brave and adventurous, she is extremely loyal and would never even dream about betraying her friends, even under interrogation or torture. She is an adoptive cousin to Newt(her adoptive mother is Newt’s father’s sister).

Her endurance and determination made her the ideal choice for the WICKED ‘Project X’, which gave her powers (see below).

She is cocky and playful, and has a very hot temper when angry. Both her loyalty and her temper have led her into fights on behalf of herself and others. Can be suspicious of new people and, like the other Gladers, not trust them easily.

Mystery Character or Glader/Immune/Right Arm?: Glader

Glade job(optional; if applicable): Runner

Family/friends: Newt(adopted cousin), Sonya(adopted cousin), Thomas, Teresa, other Gladers(friends).

Abilities: Pretty, street-smart, and cunning, she was the ideal choice for WICKED’s ‘Project X’. She has powers that allow her to change into any animal at will, as well as allowing her to have wings, claws, and/or a tail only; she was experimented on by WICKED, her genetic makeup altered to give her the powers that she has. The point of ‘Project X’ was to create the perfect weapon and/or spy; she has been known to outfight WICKED soldiers, Janson(the Rat Man), and Gally. She has also outrun Minho and the other Runners several times. As a result of WICKED’s experiments, she has her powers, stated above, and enhanced speed, fighting ability, and strength.

History(optional):

She was in the Maze that held Thomas, Newt, Minho and others. She is technically the first ever girl in the Maze(keep reading), having clung on to the side of the Box when Thomas came up in it and hid in the supplies until after Teresa arrived, which led to Teresa being considered as the first girl in the Glade.

Pretty, street-smart, and cunning, she was the ideal choice for the WICKED ‘Project X’.

Before WICKED took her, Newt and Lizzy/Sonya for their experiments, she lived on a rural farm with horses, cows and sheep. She is now a trusted friend and companion to Thomas and the other Gladers.

She and Newt shared a pocketwatch with an old photograph of them on it; she gave it to Newt before he entered the Maze so that, hopefully, he wouldn't forget, but it failed and he lost his memories. After that, it was a constant source of conversation between both of them until her memories were restored and she remembered its purpose. She now lives at the Safe Haven with Thomas and the other Immunes who escaped through the Flat Trans.

Alex

Username: Swiftphoenix

Name: Alex

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Looks(image and/or description. Doesn’t need to be too long):

Tall, medium build, with dark brown hair and blue eyes. Likes black clothing and bandannas.

Physical strengths(can be included in Abilities instead): See Abilities

Physical weaknesses(can be included in Abilities instead): See Abilities

Personality(include good and bad, nobody's perfect): Loyal, brave when he needs to be. His love for Swift has led him into rash decisions at times, and he’s used to Thomas, Minho and Alby telling him what to do. Needs to practice a bit on thinking for himself and deciding what to do in his own time.

Mystery Character or Glader/Immune/Right Arm?: Glader

Glade job(optional; if applicable): Gardener

Family/friends(optional): Swift, Thomas, Teresa, Minho, Alby, Other Gladers.

Abilities: Fairly good at defense, not super-good like Swift but good enough to stay alive in the Maze, Scorch, and infected city.

History(optional): Much the same as Swift; he's her kind-of boyfriend; neither of them know what to call it and don’t really admit their feelings. He was in the Glade before Thomas and escaped to the Safe Haven with the rest of the Gladers.

Setting:

The Safe Haven. A sunny day, about lunchtime or slightly after.

People:

Thomas, Minho, Frypan, Brenda, Swift, Alex, Jorge, Other Immunes, Mystery Characters (who will come in later), You and all other Players.

What Are Things Like Now?

Most of the characters are sad/traumatised/depressed about the loss of their friends and everything they’ve seen in the happenings of the canon series. They go about their day getting what they need to done but not much else. Some of them, like Swift, don’t talk much, and you have to carefully say the right things to start a conversation with them.
An average day for them is mostly getting up and working on the crops or (in Frypan’s case) preparing breakfast and meals for the others. Before dawn, Swift will usually run a few laps around the island and rest for a few minutes on a cliff overlooking the land and sea, lost in her thoughts and memories, then return to the others and eat. After waking up in their different ways, most Immunes work, helping to build various structures, tending plants and most anything else that needs doing in their new home. Thomas and the other former “Subjects” of WICKED still feel the pain of loss over their friends and so don’t socialise as much as Jorge, Brenda and the Right Arm people.

Plot:

The Gladers are about to be disturbed/surprised/invaded by Mystery characters who are unusual, to say the least. Some will trust them instantly, others will take more time to be friendly. Interact as you wish. Feel free to chat along the way in the soon-to-come OOC thread (or Discord; I will let you know what the server is if I make a Discord) and/or have small obstacles of your own; though this RP has a rough plan, it isn’t rigidly set, so go ahead and have fun. But remember to follow the rules below.

Who are these mysterious people?

Here are some clues:

1. They are from a sci-fi fandom.

2. They are well known around the world.

3. They have advanced tech and weaponry.

4. Most, but not all of them are from Earth.

5. Not all of them are human.

Rules(please read and follow!):

-All DC rules apply

-Be nice

-Feel free to post as long or as short as you want

-Keep it PG13 for romance/fights and things like that

-No godmodding or being overly controlling with other user’s characters

-Make sure you include bad as well as good in your forms or intro paragraphs

-Have fun!

-PM me with the form to join; preferably put Gladers or Character Form/Character Sheet in the title so I know what the PM is roughly about.

-This RP is based on my version/imaginings of what happened after the events of the Maze Runner book series; you are welcome to discuss the movies in the OOC thread/Discord I will have up soon but this thread is for book RP only. If you want to discuss the books, that belongs in the OOC or short sentences in brackets like this

((Non-RP discussion; not too many words/statements here please))

-This first post will be in the present tense:

“Swift sighs”

“Frypan says”

But later posts will be in past tense once I know the names of your characters

-If you have any questions PM me! I’d love to help you out any way I can :)

What’s going on as the story begins:

Thomas, Minho, Swift, Alex and most of the other surviving Gladers are sitting silently at the edge of the cliff, watching the few seagulls that managed to escape the sun flares dipping and twirling in the air. They often do this, remembering the ones they've lost; Teresa, Newt, Alby, Chuck. Swift sighs, breaking the silence, and dives off the edge, spreading her wings and flying through the cloud of seagulls to hide her sadness. You watch her land on a pointed ledge quite a distance away. "That's where she goes to think," says a voice behind you. You turn to see Frypan standing there, watching Swift too, his expression sad and solemn.

What do I do:

You can

Question him on anything around the Safe Haven and/or introduce yourself.

Keep quiet and let him talk.

Go over to Swift and talk to her.

Do something else entirely! (Remember, this is all about having fun and creating a story)

((This section will only be in this first post; go ahead and do what you want here onwards.))

Hi there :) I'm going to help you through the Approval process for your RP, which will allow you to enter this thread in the Other section.

Firstly, you're going to need to flesh out a lot more. There needs to be more than just 1-2 paragraphs of content (overall). Fleshing out the setting, the history, and the plot are very necessary for RPs that are looking to go into DC or Other. This is because threads are expected to be of a moderately higher (base) literacy level than the threads found in the Freeform section. I know you expect your RPers to know everything about the Maze Runner series. However, the reality is that some might have read the books a long time ago (and are rusty on the details) while others might not care to read and just want to join the RP because it looks interesting. Because of this, you'll need to lay out important information about the world for people. For some guidelines on what's expected, I recommend reading this thread.

Next, you need to have a set of rules for your RP. What are your expectations? What are the character limitations? Any number of boundaries people will need to know that exist for your thread.

Last, I don't understand--what is intended for the "What do I do" blurb at the end?

Is it okay if i don't put a lot of the RP future plot (what they do later) because personally i don't like when the plot of the RP is laid out for me to see and it sort of spoils the whole thing can i put it in a spoiler? And can i link to the Maze Runner wiki with the summary of the books?

Whoops i did forget that part, editing now

The What do i do part is for the first replies to the thread; the start of the RP story.

You can provide a link, yes, but it can't be used as a substitute for writing the information into your thread--only as a supporting element. For the plot, if you have multiple parts, you are allowed to elaborate on the first portion and hint at further things to come. Writing out the plot allows us to know that you have an intended direction for the thread; it doesn't take away the freedom to add to it or do additional (side-plot) things.

Another recommendation: filling out the character sheet for your characters. This allows members to read up on who you're writing with as well as have an example sheet to glance at when working on their own.

Wanted to let you know, you're welcome to ping/post or PM me whenever you're done with your edits. You don't have to get them done within a set timeframe, either. ^^

Well, you added your rules, a plot, and made character sheets more noticeable; good things. However, you lost the links you originally supplied and you still need to flesh out the history and the setting into full paragraphs. It is your job, as the thread owner, to describe and put into detail important information that members require to know--especially if you are using your own ideas about what a world is becoming like after a book or movie. The wiki pages can only provide so much detail and not everyone is going to bother visiting such things.

For your rules: there is a minimum post requirement in the Others and DC section--posts need to be at least four lines (a full paragraph) long.

Additional question(s): what are Mysterious People? You have zero information about them anywhere in your post. Do they have special talents? Special markings? How did they come about? etc.

About OOC threads: they are for out-of-character discussion about your RP. They are not "chatrooms". Discussion needs to remain related to your RP and the characters being used. (Plotlines, character histories, planned interactions, etc.) I'd recommend the Discord server you are thinking of making if you want space for a chatroom among members.

okay, will re-add the links and keep writing.

I’m thinking this might go into Freeform if that’s okay. :?

For the Mystery characters: oh okay I’ll add more; is it ok if I give certain details that people into the fandom would know, eg, hints about tech and stuff? I’ll mention it is sci-fi which is something I forgot in my latest edit.

Yeah, with that I agree with you on the Discord.

Yes, this can go to Freeform if you'd like. You'll have to PM Dragonhatchling to help you move the thread :)

With the details that other fandom member will already know: yes, I encourage/recommend you include those details as it'll provide a refresher for those in the know, and help those understand that aren't in the know.

Swift, you still haven't touched the history and the setting. Those need to be much more detailed than just a single sentence. Flesh them out into 1-2 paragraphs (each, not combined) at the minimum. Your "what it's like now" should also be fleshed out. It's too vague to indicate what the "average" day is like in this unspecified/vague place that everyone is supposed to know inside and out. You have to provide detailed information.

The, uh... list of "clues" is not at all helpful for who these "mysterious" people are. If you're allowing members to create such people, they need to know what boundaries they have to play/create within. Also, if these "mystery people" are well known around the world: 1. what do people know of them? 2. What makes them "mystery" people if everyone knows who/what they are?

Think of the approach to creating your thread this way: being cryptic is what not to do. (The only exception is some of the plot since you need to provide at least some information about that.) You have to be upfront, forward, and detailed about everything in your original post. Brevity/sparsity is not your friend as the GM of this thread in the unapproved section.

As mentioned, the Other and DC sections have higher literacy expectations than the Freeform section. One-liner bits of information do not fly.

Since you describe the events of this thread being based on your interpretations and non-canon takes/additions, you have to provide information to all of that. No one else knows what you have decided to create/change. Even if they've read the books/seen the movies.
