Count held eggs as 1 egg

Recommended Posts

I just bred two Witchlight x Arcana pairs, because I wanted to make sure I got one of both breeds from the progeny. I had 6 eggs when I bred. I selected the first to keep... then found out the others had auto-abandoned due to being "over the limit," even though I had room for the one I was allowed to keep. :(

Please make held clutch eggs count as one, since that's the most we can keep anyway.

Very much, yes. It's not like we can keep more than one egg from a clutch anyway. RP reason: Mommy dragon is guarding her clutch until the shells harden, but they're all in the same nest until one egg is chosen. Egg slots = nests... ;) This kind of thing.

WELLLLLLL - I just bred  as a test, with ONE available slot, got 4 eggs, kept one, and got this screen - perfectly normal:

What else would one expect. You choose to keep one, the rest go.

My action log shows:

I am clearly not getting something here.... You choose one and the rest go,. that's how it works...

@Fuzzbucket The point is, if you don't choose one because you want to breed another of the same Halloween x Halloween pair to make sure you get at least one of each breed of egg instead of having RNG mess with you, the second pair will be immediately abandoned because you have 4 held eggs locking you even though you'd only be allowed to keep 1

The argument is, the held batch should only lock up one slot since only one egg can be kept, in case you want to try several batches at once so you can pick according to their results instead of gambling they'll all cooperate.

Oh - OK - BUT - you can keep one of whichever you get first, surely and then breed another pair to go for the other breed - if you didn't have the space for more than one in the first place, it wouldn't work anyway....

@Fuzzbucket in my case I had room for two eggs. I was worried one pair might give, say, only Arcanas and no Witchlights, so I bred two different Witchlight x Arcana pairs to make sure both would give what I needed (if the first pair only gave Arcanas but the second gave both breeds, I'd know I had to keep a WItchlight from the second batch!). I had the space for the two eggs I was going to be able to keep... but the other clutch auto-abandoned because I was "locked" with 10 eggs, even though once I picked which to keep, I'd really only have 7 eggs. >:/

It isn't an issue that comes up all that often (ergo me not realizing it beforehand), but it was an unpleasant surprise and I can imagine it can backfire much worse in some situations than it did in mine!

Ah - hadn't realised you were hanging on to one whole clutch before breeding again.

Yes please, it only takes once to see how irritating this is and I haven't done it in years. (Actually I've barely bred at all since I first ran afoul  of it).

Support. I've never personally run into this issue but I can see how it would be incredibly frustrating. It makes sense for the whole clutch to only take up one egg slot since you'll only be keeping one anyway.
