2019-09-15 - Forum Guideline Updates

Recommended Posts

The forum rules have been updated. Everyone should take a moment to familiarize themselves with the following changes:

  • Posting your eggs/hatchlings in your signature and in specific Forum Games threads is now allowed. Posting others' dragons is not allowed.
  • The rule on spam has been clarified. It is now clearly focused around keeping discussions flowing by remaining on topic. The end effect should be the same.
  • Rules that are better served as section-specific guidelines (such as proper critique) have been removed from the forum-wide guidelines. This should not affect how you provide feedback on art, since the removed rules are already covered by those sections.
  • The rules now list out the options for escalation after multiple warnings.
  • This is not a change to any written rule, but I want to clarify that the forum rules do not disallow discussion of any gameplay elements on Dragon Cave so long as the discussion does not involve or encourage breaking site rules. This means that topics such as neglected dragons are fine.

The full text of the updated guidelines is as follows:

Quote

All members must follow these rules:

Respect Others

Do not harass or be rude to others. Blatant disrespect of other people who use the forum, be they staff or not, will result in a warning.

Keep the discussion relevant

Posts that do not contribute to the topic or forum may be removed and/or result in a warning.

Only share your own dragons

You are allowed to share your own growing eggs, hatchlings in your signature and in moderator-sanctioned threads in the Forum Games section. You may share your adult dragons and frozen hatchlings in threads as long as they comply with all other rules. Dragon Cave's [site terms](https://dragcave.net/terms) do not allow sharing the dragons of others without their permission.

Keep post content appropriate

Posts may neither contain nor link to any of the following content:

  • Adult material (Nudity, pornography, or explicit sexual acts)
  • Extreme violence
  • Viruses, spyware, or malware
  • Illegal downloads/piracy
  • Accounts of illegal activities
  • Threatening, harassing, or obscene content.
  • Swearing/censor bypassing (links are allowed if a disclaimer is included)

High-level discussions of the above topics are fine, but direct references are not. e.g. a topic on the use of extreme violence in video games is okay, but links to or detailed descriptions of specific instances of violence are not allowed.

Section-specific guidelines

Certain sections have their own, more specific rules. Those rules are displayed on a per-forum basis. Topics that do not belong in a section will be moved, closed, or deleted. Duplicate topics will be closed.

Warnings

"Warning" are used to notify people about violations of the rules. Warnings are only visible to yourself and carry no direct negative consequences of their own. Receiving multiple warnings in a short time period will result in escalating consequences, including post moderation (moderators must approve posts), temporary removal of posting privilege, temporary removal of forum access, and permanent account bans.

Hooray for ND discussion freedom! That apparently was always there but everyone was convinced it was taboo. Welcome to the club, those who didn't know! :)

lol I legit thought that typo said "coconuts of illegal activities" for a few seconds there.

Always nice to get clarifications on muddy things, though.

oops, it's actually supposed to be "coconuts or illegal activities"—there's two typos there, nice catch!

Anyway, thanks, I'll go fix that now.

Yay, clarity! Thank you for the rule updates!!!

NDs are so hard to make I stopped after my first, it will be nice to be able to openly discuss making them and get some help.

Okay, I *know* ND-discussion *did* used to be 'against the rules' in terms of mods specifically shutting down conversations about them. I wonder when that changed, and if the mods didn't get clear notification that it changed.

I'm very curious how many users will actually add eggs/hatchies to their signatures now. When I first started playing I used to have mine in a sig on an unrelated forum, but it was too annoying to constantly change them as they grew up. Wonder how many people will actually keep up with that.

Thank you!

Much as it may only be a small thing, I really appreciate that the rules now say "Keep the discussion relevant", rather than using a non-standard definition of "spam", which the uninitiated may genuinely not understand. (In all other places I've been, "spam" refers exclusively to unsolicited advertisements and bot posts.)

And I'm delighted to see the change on posting one's own growing things :) Thank you!

So videos of monkeys stealing coconuts are definitely not allowed! I nearly stepped in that one, :)

I'm not sure... can "or" mean "XOR"? Then posts with coconuts and illegal activities would be fine. Just make sure not to post any coconuts without illegal activities (or vice versa).

Thanks for the updates and clarifications, TJ!  :)

Note that TJ says it is not a change to any written rule.  There definitely was a rule. Glad to hear it is gone.

Thanks for the updated rules, TJ.

Update of rules is nice. Change is life and this forum is very much alive.

So only our own little growing critters.
We have to be careful when we trade away a growing critter and is no longer on our scroll but still not an adult or frozen and have to change that link. Personally i will keep it save and only post lineage links like i am used to. I never know when i will trade a growing critter away.

Yay for rule updates! Good to have things spelled out. Vagueness gets people in trouble.

I anticipate a Neglected thread within the hour.

Thanks for the updates, TJ. Very nice and clear. It's a good thing I'm not a huge fan of coconuts though....

I might (very slight possibility) eat kale if it had coconut mixed in...then again, probably not.

Rule clarifications are good.  Thanks TJ09

This means there can be open topics about it? I would love to create experiments groups and stuff. It's a very hard and specific dragont o get, I think he deserves some love and attention.

It actually wasn't. These topics were just closes ASAP as a pre-emptive measure because there once was one big thread about NDs that encouraged multi-scrolling - or so a mod once told me. (I think it was Sock, but I'm not willing to swear on it.)

It's good to have additional clarity on several rules. Although, I could have sworn it was already allowed to have an egg to our scroll in our signature? Or am I just misremembering/misreading?

Links to your scrolls and adult dragons is what used to be allowed, growing eggs and hatchlings were not.

@olympe your memory is close to mine on the ND discussions.
