Posted April 14, 2019 (edited) Welcome! To the 20-Week Breeding Challenge! What is the challenge? This challenge is patterned after the Unofficial Dragon Cave Discord Challenge of 2018. Those of us who survived that challenge have decided we would like to try again, with a few changes to make it better. Starting Wednesday, May 1, 2019 we will be going 20 weeks trying to produce the longest lineage possible in that time frame (with a cohesive pattern). The challenge will end on September 25, 2019. Why 20 weeks? We determined that the earlier one year challenge was too long to keep people interested. It allows the challenge to end before any of the Holiday breeding seasons. It's a nice round number! Why should you participate in the challenge? Good Question! First of all because it is FUN! Also – PRIZES! Every member who joins this project, will be offering a prize (sort of like a poker pot) at the end of this project. Prizes will be split between first, second, and third place (possibly more if we get tons of people). First place will get first pick , second gets second, and third picks third. If there are still prizes left the cycle repeats The number of prizes for each winner will depend on how many participants finish the challenge. There may also be consolation prizes for all who finish the challenge. Rules (Yes, of course we need rules!): All lineages must be some form of stair or spiral format. Lines must have consistent patterns. Examples: Stair, Single Step Spiral, Double Step Spiral, and so on. One of the base starting dragons MUST have a "Stolen on" date of May 1st, 2019 or later. The other may be a previously existing CB dragon. The last dragon in your line must have a “Laid on” date of September 25, 2019 or earlier in order to be counted. You must create a public group for all dragons produced/used in the project. All dragons in the final lineage must be on your scroll and in your group at the end of the Challenge. Inbreeding will be allowed. At the end of the challenge each player will be asked to contribute one prize. It can be an offspring of your challenge lineage, or anything else you choose. Posted April 14, 2019 (edited) WINNERS: To my mind all of the following are winners because they were able to "finish" the challenge, which I have defined as hanging in there to the end, regardless of the length of lineage achieved -- no small accomplishment. They are listed in order of their final ranking. In cases where there were 2 or more people who reached the same generation, the rankings were set by date of breeding. @Mochi 1st 27th gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/DoZAR @Ruby Eyes 2nd 23rd gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/x3vb8 @purplehaze 3rd * 22nd gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/HMKkU @Kigyptnee 4th * 21st gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/sPHRR @Verandi 5th 19th gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/KVf4I @scalesofgrey 6th 19th gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/UO0vM @Fuzzbucket 7th 16th gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/8h1Vq @Tigerkralle 8th 13th gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/o0Z3f @Justie 9th 13th gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/krsbt @Aqub 10th 13th gen https://dragcave.net/lineage/jf9ih * For purposes of choosing prizes Kigyptnee will be considered the 3rd place winner. As organizer and record-keeper of the project I disqualified myself from the top 3 places and will take a random prize instead. Participants: I chose to leave this list here to honor all who took on the challenge, whether they were successful in finishing or not. It is nice to have a historic record, no? @Aqub | Scroll | Group @chandelotic | Scroll | Group @Coheart | Scroll | Group @Fuzzbucket | Scroll | Group @Haki | Scroll | Group @Justie | Scroll | Group @Kigyptnee | Scroll | Group @kirby | Scroll | Group @Kurokosworth | Scroll | Group @loltears | Scroll | Group @Mochi | --- | Group @purplehaze | Scroll | Group @Ruby Eyes | --- | Group @scalesofgrey | Scroll | Group @Shibunari | Scroll | Group @Tigerkralle | --- | Group @Verandi | Scroll | Group Edited September 27, 2019 by purplehaze Share this post Link to post

And, can the CBs be different breeds? Absolutely you can use your fails. As long as the lineage shape stays consistent. And the CBs can be different breeds. My lineage from the previous challenge consisted of blue dragons -- any blue dragon. https://dragcave.net/lineage/o6tEi Share this post Link to post

Posted April 14, 2019 Welcome to everyone who has joined so far! I am pleased with the response and hope you will all have fun with this. @chandelotic - It appears that you didn't mark your group as public, because the link doesn't work for me. @Verandi - Welcome to your first group project! I love the sound of your lineage, but if I am understanding your intent correctly, it may be a little complicated for the purpose of this challenge. This is sort of a race to get as long a lineage as possible in the time available. Wrong breeds are quite common in breeding and each one could lose you a whole week of breeding time. If you are okay with that I would love to see how it goes for you. Share this post Link to post

If you are okay with that I would love to see how it goes for you. Ok, in that case I will just choose one to keep it going, or just let it go as it randomly would if that's ok? Or should I just have it centered around the main one and use caveborn versions of the others? But then that may take a while too. It's probably best to do with what you are given the first time. I have yet to actually breed my dragons yet. I have just been collecting so far so I have not seen how breeding works. Share this post Link to post

But I think I'd rather you wait until we are nearing the end.. 1 hour ago, Fuzzbucket said: BY the way - I assume we can use existing dergs on the way up ? And if I can't find a pygmy on May 1, can I switch to drakes ??? Yes, as Ruby says only one of your starter pair needs to be from May 1 or later. Any or all of the dragons you use later in the lineage can be on your scroll now. I doubt you will have any trouble finding a pygmy that day, but you can switch at that point if you wish. Or you can start a day or two later. There will likely be time for you to catch up during the rest of the challenge period because breeding fails happen. Share this post Link to post
Posted April 15, 2019 9 hours ago, Verandi said: Ok, in that case I will just choose one to keep it going, or just let it go as it randomly would if that's ok? Yes, I think it is a good idea to just use whichever breed you get at each step. The lineage won't be as orderly, but it will progress faster. Since you are new to breeding you may not know that breeding can fail sometimes, too. You would do well to collect some Purple dragons, if you don't already have them. Their BSA of "fertility" can boost the chance of successful breeding and make it less likely that the pair will refuse to breed with each other. Share this post Link to post
