"Next!" He called and after the all the deliveries he was covered in sweat and breathing hard by the time he rolled the cart around the back of the shop. They had one stop for lunch and was nearly dinner when they got back to the shop. "We should head home. And you need to start packing... I'll wash up. " He made a face at his smell. "I stink like a sweaty dog..."

“Okay and yeah I do but I won’t bring a whole lot of clothes back with me. Just enough to get me going at first and the rest I’ll buy,” Sabrina said in reply after they got back to be shop before hearing the last thing he said. “There’s a really big pond in the woods behind our house if you’d like to use that and I’ll bring you a change of clothes,” she said and offered in reply.

"I ment your other belongings. Books, blankets, photos, stuff like that, not just clothing. Okay, i'll take a dip in the pond. " He yawned and walked in the direction she mentioned and  stripped once there jumping in despite the cold, brisk feel.

“Oh okay got it. Alright see you later,” Sabrina said in reply to everything he said before going into the house and starting to get out the things that she needed to pack as well as the bags that were needed to put those things in. After she had gotten some of her clothes and books packed in one of the bags and had started on another, she straightened up a bit from the floor, went over to the guest room, got out some of his clothes, headed back downstairs, and then out the door towards the woods. When she got there, she set the clothes that she had brought for him on a log nearby, and then headed back towards the house afterward.

Adonis dressed after shaking off the water and headed to the house. Dinner was being served just as he walked inside. "Afternoon.  Thank you Jack for letting me work with you today. Although I didn't learn much more than I already do, I did get to know the town. Lovely place here."

Sabrina packed a few other things she thought she would need and called it done before heading downstairs to see that Adonis was there and heard the conversation he had with her dad. She sat down in a chair that was next to the chair she thought he’d sit in before she heard her dad’s reply.

 

“Afternoon and you’re very welcome. That’s good and thank you. We try to keep it clean and tidy elsewise the town elder would get on our case to clean it up more and I think you already met her upon arriving here. Her name’s Becky and she thinks of herself as everyone’s grandmother since she doesn’t have grandkids of her own,” Jack said in reply with a small amused smile regarding the older lady before spooning out some of the food onto his plate and Sabrina did the same.

Adonis blinked and laughed. "Yes indeed, she gave me a "I'm watching you" look. I have to say, I don't want to be on her bad side if I can help it. Wolfgrove is a bit bigger than this place, around two hundred and fifty people in it. Large enough to know who's a traveler and whose native, and needing a mayor.  The mayor is the one who runs the inn. My mum and dad do that. I take care of any other things, not only a carpenter. It's a anonymous job, and it doesn't pay much- mostly in food and spices really- but it's important enough that I have to stay. Otherwise I'd like to move here. Everyone is so kind here.... I just get wicked looks at home. "

Sabrina, Jack, and Aimee all listened to everything that Adonis said and the former was surprised at what she heard him say in his last statement about him wanting to live here in Shadowgrove.

 

“Yeah no one wants to get on her bad side and wow that’s a lot of people. Hm it sounds like there’s a lot to do there although it sounds like it would be rough taking care of all those duties. That’s mean and we would definitely welcome you here if you decided to move here to our town,” Jack said in reply with a smile while Aimee nodded in agreement and Sabrina still looked a bit surprised but also nodded in agreement as well.

Adonis smiled sadly. "Unfortunately my job has very specific requirements and only those of my family meets those requirements. My twin decided he wanted nothing to do with that job and left me to do it myself when my grandpa died when I was seven.  It is rough, but Sabrina would take over part of it. Well the social part of it anyway. My dad isn't exactly..... fatherly towards me, so I'd mostly be moving away from him. He... doesn't like how I run things, although nobody else really knows what I do, nor do they care as long as they are safe." He informed them dishing out his meal. "Before Sabrina it seemed like my mum was the only one who cared if I got hurt on the job or not. In essence, I protect the town from threats. Robbers, highway men, the heards from coyotes and wild dogs... other creatures of the night. It's the kind of work where you are alone most of the time, and it almost desensitized you to actual human interaction because of the solitude. So..... as much as I want to move away from that place and see the world... I really am stuck. " He said not looking up from his plate.

After Sabrina listened a bit more to what he was saying, she knew that he was referring to his life as the Wolf and the shock that she had earlier subsided although she was still surprised to hear that he wanted to move to this town where she grew the rest of her life in but she was careful to keep that emotion not showing on her face. She did blush slightly when she heard that she would help with part of it so that it would be a bit easier on him when they went back to Wolfgrove but kept quiet as she ate the food that she had on her plate.

 

Jack and Aimee listened to everything that Adonis said and didn’t say anything for a little while after he was done talking. “I’m sorry that the people of your town treat you that way as well as your dad and brother. In my opinion they should help you if you’re ever in trouble but I’m glad that your mom still cares for you and Sabrina can help you out as well,” Jack said in reply with a smile after a little longer of silence as he was trying to come up with something he could say before he also started to eat his food.

Adonis nodded eating in silence. When finished he helped clean up then went back outside saying something about checking on the horses. He did just that then shifted behind the barn.

After Sabrina finished eating, she also helped clean up everything before telling her parents that she was going to go walk in the woods with Adonis, and they nodded before she went outside and headed to the barn where the horses were grazing outside it. She brushed the horses to give them some attention and then went behind the barn where she saw Adonis in his wolf form. “You ready for our run?” she asked him with a smile before starting to head towards the woods.

Adonis rumbled a laugh stretching his limbs. "Get on. Nothing beats the back of a wolf. " he said quickly catching up to her and walked beside her. He dwarfed her both in human and wolf form but he was warm, radiating heat beating the brisk late winter air away.

Sabrina nodded and then climbed onto his back after he had caught up to her. “Ooh you’re very warm,” she said as she carefully grabbed some of his fur to hold onto so that she’d be prepared for when he started to run in a little while.

With a massive leap, he was running and within a few strides, already deep into the woods.  He stopped when they reached a clearing. "that was ten miles in five minutes.  If I wasn't so shy in showing my form, I could take you back to Wolfgrove like this without taking all day on horseback. "

Sabrina held on tight as he lept and started running before they were deep in the woods and had arrived in a clearing. “Wow and it’s okay that you’re shy. Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to return the horses. Although I’d prefer traveling like this because it’s faster I’d be fine with traveling back on horseback early on whatever day we end up going back,” she said in reply to the two statements that he said as she pet him in a spot behind his neck.

"Good. "  he said now strolling through the forest. He was silent, enjoying the night sounds of nature. He stopped when something rustled and a regular wolf came out growling. Three more behind him. "Easy little brother. I mean no harm to your mate and pups. May we walk in your land? We won't disturb your mate." he said softly, although he straightened and emphasized 'little brother' letting the small wolf know he was not only large but stronger than him. The wolf snarled then whined. Adonis's ears flicked. "You worked with natural wolves yes? His mate won't eat, and pups are getting weak with her lack of milk. He seeks help. Would you assist?"  he tilted his head looking at her with a single blue eye.

Sabrina smiled and looked around at their surroundings as well until the four wolves came out of the shrubs near them. She listened to what Adonis said to the lead wolf and then heard what the former asked and said to her. “I have but it’s been awhile. The last I did it was with my birth mom. I had helped keep those pups warm while my mom got the mother wolf to eat but I had paid attention so I’ll try to do the same here. I wish I had milk though to give to the pups so that they could still eat something as their mother eats but perhaps there’s another female there that can help with that,” she said in reply before studying the wolves behind the leader.

 

“Hm those wolves look familiar,” she said a few minutes later before getting down from his back before standing beside him and then kneeling down and holding out one of her hands for one of them to sniff. One of them did slowly approach her and did that before licking the side of it. She smiled before patting him on the head and then straightening and saying to Adonis, “This is one of the wolves that I helped with my mom.” She then looked at the lead wolf and said with a small nod, “Lead the way.”

"Probably the puppy helped long ago. He doesn't look too old. " Adonis said following the wolf. "I'll look for milk weed and brew up something for the pups. "  He whispered as they slowed to a stop outside a hole between the roots of the tree. The alpha male went down to his mate, coming out three times with a pup each time and then was pushing a thinner than normal female out of the hole. This female had a distinct marking, a grey heart on her chest amid black fur. The pups looked around two weeks old. Cautiously Adonis leaned forward and smelled the air around the female. "She has a rotten tooth and it's causing an infection. I'll get herbs growing here." He said backing away a bit and sat down, eyes closed starting to chant softly.

Sabrina nodded in reply to what Adonis said with a smile on her face before she walked with him and the wolves towards where the alpha’s mate was. She sat down on the ground a few feet away from the hole and nodded when she heard what he whispered before the pups were brought out. She gently picked them up and tried to keep them warm in her cape while Adonis prepped the herbs and milk weed for them. It was a bit chilly out and she didn’t want them to get too cold since they were a bit weak.

The plants he needed grew around him and he shifted, pulling out matches from his pocket, gathering wood and even pulling out a pocket sized stone morter and pestle setting it on the tiny fire melting snow in it for water. He quickly prepared the brew, tore up his handkerchief into strips and soaked the warm brew into one side of the strand of cloth. "Let them drink off of this. I'll tend to the mother. You five, go find something for her to eat. " He told the now pack of seven wolves excluding the new pups gathered around them. One bark from the alpha and they obeyed the command to hunt, leaving only the two parents with the two humans. 

 

Adonis gathered the plants needed before kneeling in front of the mother and prying open her jaw. With a quick, easy motion he grabbed the infected tooth, yanked it out, and removed his hand before the female could snap her jaw shut on his hands.

Sabrina nodded after she had watched Adonis get the brew ready for the pups to drink while on strips of a handkerchief he had. She took them and then held each pup for five seconds while letting them drink the stuff while holding the strip above their mouths after opening them carefully. After they had all drank from the strip of cloth, she watched as he pulled out the infected tooth that the mother wolf had in her mouth and was amazed at how quick he was able to do it.

 

“Did you say that the female pup also had an infected tooth or did I misinterpret that?” she asked after he was done helping the mother wolf and after picking up a few pups to keep warm in her lap.

"No. Keep giving them milk though. Looks like they haven't eaten in a day or two when her milk ran out. They're too young to have proper teeth yet." He said preparing an elixir of the she wolf and once again pried open her mouth to give it to her, then allying a peppermint edible gel on the infected area to cut down on the inflammation. "Alpha, I ask you move to the east so I might keep an eye on your mate and pups. You may sleep in my den or one near it. I need to make sure she eats. I'll check on her while I'm here but listen for three whistles like this..." He pulled a carved claw that was a small flute and made three notes that were short and soft. "Then gather your family and head east until the earth smells like rain and the air like fresh pine and you see a forest. Listen for my call. I'll show you around my land. " 

 

The wolf growled lowly. "The humans won't hurt you there. They respect all wolves. It is considered bad luck to hurt one, and whomever kills one will suffer my wrath. They know this. If you don't want the travel without protection, I can escort you there and back."

 

A snort from the male as the female nosed Adonis's hand feeling better. "Escort it is. Unfortunately that house will have to wait a little bit until this fae gets on her feet again Brina... my word is my vow, but it wouldn't be right when we get back. "

Sabrina nodded and did as she was told, continuing to feed the pups the milky brew that he had put together and had put on the strip that he had given to her as he talked to the alphas and also finished taking care of the alpha female’s mouth. She had just finished giving the pups the rest of the brew when she heard the last couple of conversations that Adonis had with the alphas including the last statement that was directed at her.

 

“I understand and I’ll just stay at the inn until then,” she said in reply with a smile before setting the pups back down so that they could go back over to their parents.

The alpha picked up the still blind and deaf pups putting them back in the den for warmth as the other wolves returned with a couple rabbits, a grouse and a few ground squirrels the female ate them eagerly, but also shared with her pack. Adonis shifted back to his wolf form after cleaning and pocketing the bowl and herbs he used. "Let us walk back home. It's getting late. Could we cuddle again? At least until I fall asleep? "  He asked striding away from the family and into an open field taking a different way back to her house.
