Once upon a long time ago, the long-loved King Florian Beaumont, Destroyer of Plagues, Defiler of Enemies and Heart of the Kingdom, fell victim to the Dark Plague he fought to eradicate - his beloved wife, the Bright Queen Cassia of Breothia took ill and died despite the Royal Touch. Sick with heartbreak, King Florian disappeared into the cold alpine mountains. He did not return until his Royal Advisors sought him out and begged him to return to the kingdom of Occitanie, desperate as it had grown in his absence. The king returned with the knowledge that he would have one year to take another wife - his Bright Queen had died before an heir could be produced and, with the king aging, the bloodline was at risk of extinction. Mourning and uninterested in choosing another mate, King Florian allowed his Court and Royal Advisors to suggest possible marriages and family alliances. At last, a most beautiful Gaia, Marie Delacroix, Princess of Quelless'ar and Healer of Lands, was selected for the king. 

 

Neither the king nor his new queen were emotionally moved by the marriage. They completed their duties as husband and wife, though otherwise they were rarely seen together, and they certainly never sought one another out. King Florian busied himself with the political concerns of the kingdom, meeting daily with his advisors and the court he was long-familiar with. The foreign Queen Marie had to build her court afresh, having only brought a small number of handmaids with her when she traveled the long distance to Occitanie. The Queen's Court often met in the palace gardens, as the queen preferred spending her days healing and aiding the lands and gardens that had fallen into disrepair after the death of the Bright Queen, while the King's Court only ever met indoors and the king himself rarely ventured from the King's Court Hall. Because of their lack of interaction (and the catty nature of nobility), the two Courts soon fell into a sordid competitiveness that the Kingdom had never seen before.

 

The competition between the Nobles took over the function of the Royal Courts. In order to influence the King and Queen, each Court adopted the same "points system," involving their precious Francs. Not every little matter can be taken to a king or queen, so the Nobles developed a method of earning influence by keeping score through Francs. The Nobles refer to their competition as a "silly little game," though it is anything but.

 

In the game of the Courts, there is no certainty except for deceit.

 

Welcome, player, to the Courts' Intrigue.

 

 

The King and Queen have quite different opinions about... well, most things. In particular, the traits that

they value vary because of the differences in their histories and experiences. Read below to learn about

what each monarch values most and what their respective Royal Courts focus on.

King of all Occitanie, Florian favors keeping with tradition when political and military needs allow. For this reason, his own kind have the highest position in his Court. Traditionally in the Occitanian monarchy, Astrapi are positioned as rulers or advisors, so King Florian's Court dictates that any Astrapi member of the Court be a Duc or Duchesse. The powerful wyrm's foil is the Thalassa, so King Florian has wisely given them the second highest positions in his Court: Marquis and Marquise. The King places a high importance on Time and how it is spent within his Court. For this reason, he has appointed the Chrono Xenowyrms to Comte/Comtesse; their position is a strong one that allows them to aid the King with any matters of Time. King Florian realizes that meeting the need of the Common Folk is highly important to the success of Occitanie. His trust in the Gaia and their ability to ensure crops thrive earns them the Vicomte/Vicomtesse position. Pyros, known for their hot heads and flaming tempers, are kept in place as either a Baron or Baronne, depending on their gender. Finally, the Maegia with their Magick of Old, serve as the Court's Sorcier and Sorcière.

 

The Queen's Court is very much inspired from and enriched by the earth and its many different biomes. Each Biome and Rank within the Court System is thought of from the perception of a Healing Queen. True to her form, Queen Marie Ann Delacroix shows favorites toward her counterparts that bring waters to the earth, so she can assure that Life is brought forth. The Thalassa Xenowyrm has been selected as her Lover, Duc Francis the IV and is therefore the breed for any Duc/Duchesse to fall from. For the Marquis/Marquise she favors the Chrono Xenowyrms, as it takes Time for Life to grow, so she recognizes their abilities to help the Court grow as well. Comte/Cometesse are seen as Astrapi because without them to protect the lands there would be no ability for Life. Vicomte/Vicomtesse is thought to be the Mageia for the Magic they bring to the world and to Life as we know it. The Baron/Baronne are thought to be her own kin which are loved for their work toward bringing Life to this world, but she knows to not favor her own line but rather to share with other lines. The Sorcier/Sorciere are the Pyro Xenowyrms and are the last and final position because with fire comes the destruction of Life.

 

The King and Queen are each represented in (3) forms in order to allow breeding to run smoothly.

Different middle names are used for each pairing they are part of, but please note there's really

just one King Florian and one Queen Marie.

* All Courts’ Intrigue offspring must be named with their appropriate title. Titles are determined by ranking. You can find the appropriate titles and color rankings below.

* We highly encourage the use of French names (ex. Louis the XIV) to keep with the theme of the lineage. 

* You may also want to include a “last” name for your dragon - to keep this uniform throughout the project, please use the French translation of your dragon’s color

As each Court amasses wealth, they can unlock certain rewards and events. Some things will be triggered by individual Court Wealth, while others will be triggered by Combined or by a total for both Courts to reach. These rewards and events will come as a variety of different things, like decorations for your Court's Hall, Events that will give you specific goals to obtain, challenges among the inner rankings of your  Court, as well as different ranks competing to see which will prevail. There are many different things that will be able to be unlocked and we fully intend to keep the suspense! Some events may be triggered more than once, sometimes they may be things that will get your name highlighted or you or your Court put in the spotlight. We hope to offer a great deal of things for you to enjoy within the Court and give you a reason to work to amass your Court Wealth.

As events come, you will learn more about exactly what each entails. 

This is to ensure you have *some* idea of what you're working towards, but will still be surprised in the end.

- "Royal Touch" breedings allow the monarchs to "purify" a dragon (non-Xeno) to introduce the dragon to la nobelesse.

* All dragons must be approved before the Royal Touch is administered. There will be a short list of breeds to choose from.

- Duels - within a duel, each Court will have a set number of weeks to breed to a certain generation (random upon start of each duel)

* No births before the duel date will count. Duels will start from 3G and onward. 

- "May I have this dance?" - This is an event for romance and flirting. Certain color mates/affairs taken for new offspring or unmated

offspring will earn francs while the event lasts.

1.) Selecting a Court

First of all, congrats and THANK YOU for deciding to join the Courts' Intrigue! We're more than happy to have you and hope you'll enjoy your time here. There are several ways one might choose which Royal Court to belong to. Some may decide where their loyalties lie based on the values of the two courts. The King and Queen are quite different and each has their own way of thinking. Secondly, you may select your Court based on the color ranking system you like best. No matter how you select your court, choose wisely, as this cannot be changed. (Though at least the King won't behead anyone for changing loyalties.)

 

2.) Beginning your lineage

Beginning your own lineage starts quite simply. After selecting which Court you would like to belong to, simply fill out the appropriate form (see the Lineage Forms section below) and you'll be added to the waitlist. After you receive a Royal Offspring and have successfully hatched and allowed it to grow into adulthood, you may pair them with any CB Xenowyrm you like. Offspring from your pairing may be kept to continue the lineage on your own or gifted to other members of the thread, earning Francs for your Court.

 

3.) Carrying on your lineage

To carry on your lineage, you must have an adult Royal Offspring that you can pair with a CB Xenowyrm. If breeding is successful (or not refused) between the two, you may fill out a form in order to become a breeder. Breeders should understand the rules of the thread and must gift their offspring to the first person on the Waitlist for offspring from a breeder. Breeders should fill out the appropriate form when gifting an offspring.

 

4.) Earning Francs for the Court

Francs can be earned by any member of the Court (even those without a Royal Offspring yet). Rekha and pretty_thumb keep close track of posts, but we are humans, so please fill out the corresponding form after earning francs and post it so that it can be kept track of later on. The favors that can be done in order to earn Francs are listed under our "Earning Francs" section above.

 

* First and foremost, all Dragon Cave and Dragon Cave Forum rules must be adhered to.

 

* In order to join, you need to have successfully raised (10) dragons on your scroll.

 

* Rudeness or argumentativeness will not be tolerated; this is a game and we're all here to enjoy it.

 

* No abandoning, killing or trading any egg/dragon from Courts' Intrigue. 

 

 

- CB Xenowyrms that are gifted may be re-gifted unless otherwise stated by the original Gifter.

* However, only the original Gifter will have earned points for gifting a CB Xeno.

- Freezing is allowed upon approval of a freezing application (see the Forms section).

 

* Offspring of this lineage may ONLY be gifted to those who are already current members of the Courts.
 

- Those on the Waitlist are first serve. If none of them need/want the Offspring, you may post a general gifting form to the thread.

 

* All dragons (2G and on) will have caveborn Xenowyrm mates.

 

* All births, marriages, and affairs must be announced to the Courts. Fill out the appropriate form after the qualifying action has been completed.

(i.e. Do not post about a marriage or an affair unless you have actually bred those two dragons.)

 

* Marriages must remain loyal for (1) month (meaning 0 affairs and 4 breeding attempts) before an affair can be consummated.

 

 

- This mimics the nobility’s inherent goal - extending the bloodline first, then mating for love.

- Otherwise, dragons do not have to be monogamous and can take as many partners as they want.

 

* After a non-espoused couple has produced an offspring of the same ranking as one parent, the lineaged partner must mate with their spouse

and produce an offspring to continue their bloodline (even if this requires multiple breeding attempts).

 

- Offspring must at least have the same color as (1) of the married parents before either can have an affair again.

 

* Colors of Court Offspring cannot be guaranteed - you get what you get  You are always welcome to request another egg after receiving one.

 

* For those on the Waitlist, you have (48) hours to pick up your egg or hatchling. Unfortunately, Rekha and pretty_thumb (and the breeders) need the scroll space, too.

 

- Failure to respond or to pick up an egg or hatchling will result in the next person in line being gifted the dragon. 

 

* Failure to post a Birth or Growth announcement will result in you losing your ability to earn Francs for the Court you are a member of for (1) week.

She grew up the fair and beautiful Princess of Quelless'ar who believed that one day she would marry for love. She had often dreamed of what it might be like to settle down with a man who she could love fully and who would be able to love Her just the same. Though often times fate and the business of the Crown had different plans for life just as it did with Her it would seem. 

 

While She adores Her Husband, King Florian, She has sought love on Her own accord. She did indeed find that love with one named Francis, a brilliant Thalassa Dragon who has shown Her that there is a chance to still love and be loved just as she always dreamed of. Lucky for Her, Her fair and just Husband too wanted to seek love from another's embrace. She of course maintains Her duty to Her Husband the King, by providing Him with ample heirs to the throne so that when They eventually pass on from this life the Kingdom will reign long and continue to grow and prosper in Their absence. 

 

The Queen is a fair and loving Queen who believes in taking the time to heal the lands and assure their growth continues to flourish. She looks on to Her Courtiers with a kind and accepting eye and will always strive to do Her best to rule fairly over them in all that they do.

Can you hold an egg or hatchling for me?

Short answer, no. Unfortunately breeders need scroll space just as much (if not more) than others, especially if they're involved in other projects. We understand that egglock happens, so this is why you have (48) hours to pick up an egg (or hatchling, if one is gifted).

 

Can you hatch an egg for me?

Spoiler

Unfortunately not. In some instances it may be possible but this would vary on a day-to-day basis for each breeder. To cover all our bases, the official answer is "no," though that doesn't mean you'll never receive a hatchling directly from @Rekha or myself. Using a BSA that takes (14) days to reset is quite generous but can't always be done, sadly.

 

I'd rather be in a different Royal Court; can I change loyalty?

Nope, sorry. Changing loyalties would've been a huge deal back in the day - you may even have been beheaded or otherwise punished if you were found out. Aside from that, changing color rankings would be too confusing and would mess with others' lineages, so it's best to pick the side you like best in the first place.

 

Can I be on multiple waiting lists?

For the time being, you may only be on (1) waitlist for the Royal Courts. This does not mean, however, that you can't also be on the waitlist for a CB mate.

 

Can I breed my dragons for a friend?

|| A Brief Beaumont History ||

 

         The Beaumont family had long been known for their position in the nobility, even before they rose to the kingship. The first Beaumont monarch of Occitanie was actually a female, a Queen, though the males in the family would assume the job of keeping the throne after her death. In fact, no true Beaumont heir [firstborn, of the Astrapi gene] has been born female in over five hundred years. A long time, even by the standards of dragons. Beaumonts have a rich history - that of invading lands yes, to consolidate the kingdom, but expansion of knowledge was their true desire. Occitanie's Astrapi monarchs will leave their thrones almost exclusively to gain knowledge of other lands, cultures, and religions. They often immerse themselves in newly conquered lands, though they eagerly return home to share what they have learned with the kingdom. Only one Beaumont, King Thaddeus VI, was known for abandoning his Kingship in order to marry into the Ipheotis Dynasty, a strict culture that had never before seen outsiders. Needless to say, because of this, King Florian's sabbatical into the Ithian Mountains threw the kingdom into confusion and despair. Without their beloved monarch to lead them, the Common Folk became hopeless and the lands started dying. The Royal Advisors, respected and admired by the king, set out to find Florian and beg him to return home. King Florian faced Homecoming gladly for his people, though he was a bit different after the loss of his honorable queen...

Alright, so when you first see open the lineage builder, you're going to see this:

 

 

This box is going to be the final product of your lineage. Click the box, and a menu will appear. Click the dropdown to pick a breed and a gender (this is the only one you can pick a gender for, the rest are automatic to match how lineages are set on the site), then click save. I'm going to do a Night Glory Drake since I don't feel like dealing with the dimorphism just yet. I also clicked the shrink icons button, to make it look closer to how lineages look onsite.

 

 

Now, what we have here is a caveborn, since it has no parents! Let's fix that - click the "expand" button to give the dragon you've selected parents. I'm going to make the parents both Day Glory Drakes, because I love weird alternating things.

 

 

I'm going to make an arrowhead here, but you can do any sort of pattern you can think of! I'm going to click expand on both parents to give the Night Glory some grandparents.

 

 

I paired the Night Glory grandparents with Howler Drakes. Now, if I was doing an even-gen I would click expand on all four grandparents. But I'm doing an arrowhead, so I'm only doing it on the Night Glory grandparents - the Howlers are going to be CB. I'm going to add Day Glory and Honey Drake great-grandparents, yay alternation!

 

I'm going to continue only adding parents for the Day and Night Glory Drakes until I'm satisfied with the length.

 

Oops, I accidentally added parents to the wrong dragon! Not to worry, I can just select the dragon and click the "Remove Parents" button. No need to start over!

 

 

8 gens looks good! Now, all those "Expand" buttons look messy. Click "Hide Buttons" so you can get a nice screenshot to share with everyone!

Welcome to The Courts Intrigue and to the Queens Court, @Ariento. Once @TempestSea accepts her egg or another egg hatches I will happily breed for you from The Queen and her Lover, the Duc. 

 

What are you confused by when it comes to marriage and affairs? I will try my best to explain here in hopes of answering your question first though.

 

The point of Nobility is to continue their line and have heirs that will be there when they pass one day. So we highly encourage marriage first and foremost. However, this is France, and affairs did happen. Even the King and Queen have their lovers that they prefer to take to their beds! However, taking an affair is risky, the announcement of your affair will remove one franc from your Court as it is a costly experience. However, it can be beneficial in the end when it comes time to having more heirs to their line. However, as I said we encourage marriage first and foremost so we prefer that after a birth has been had from an affair that you then have a birth with your spouse to continue your line. Then you are welcome to once again mate with your affair. It is a hope that you will mate with both, preferably alternating between the two and having your heirs. However, before you may take an affair you must have given birth to four off spring, so thus spending at least a month mating with your spouse before you take an affair.

 

I hope that this has answered your question and not served to confuse you even more. If you have a specific question about how the two work please ask and I or @pretty_thumb would be happy to get back to you asap with an answer.

 

Let me edit the Queens Court Hall once more before making an announcement on points and additions! PS I am going to take after @MinkishMinx and post in a particular color, the color of my Court so as to find my posts easier as I am sure these will start getting a bit bogged down with everyone whos participating so that I may find them easier later.

 

Now for the announcements. I have added @TempestSea, @MinkishMinx, and @Ariento to the Queens Court and added 3 francs to the court as well, one for each persons pledge of loyalty to the Queen and Her Court. I have also added another 5 francs to the Queens Court for the lovely donation from @MinkishMinx with her lovely hatchie's in a jar! I have updated the graphics post as well with a picture of all of her lovely jars and have added the coding to the post as well so that you can choose from a whole variety of graphics to help represent your Court! I have also just bred successfully the Queen and King and have offered the baby, an Astraphi egg, to @TempestSea and will be breeding the Queen and her Lover the Duc as soon as I am no longer egg locked!

@Ariento let me try to clear things up a bit for you.

 

All offspring of the Courts must "marry" (a CB Xeno) before they can have an affair. Affairs were quite common in the French courts, but continuing the bloodline was even more so. To mimic this, we introduced the rule that states that in order for an affair to occur, a marriage must "remain loyal" in the beginning by having been officially consummated (4) times.

 

Once your dragon is able to have an affair, they are free to have as many as they would like. A non-espoused (affair) couple may breed until they produce an offspring of the same ranking as one of the parents. After this occurs, you must again breed your married couple until you successfully produce an offspring (even if this requires multiple breeding attempts) with no other affairs until a new child of the bloodline is produced.

 

Beloveds are a dragon's favorite affair. Favorites were had often at court. In order to have a beloved, you dragon must have successfully bred (5) times with the potential beloved.

Exactly that! A Beloved is an especially favorite lover that an offspring has. I tend to view them as their "real" spouses (since they're together for love), though that's just the hopeless romantic in me 

 

I'll have to let Rekha weigh in on this, but I think it would be fine to allow members of either court to be on waitlists from both courts (though I believe only one waitlist at a time was decided). We'd perhaps need to allow a certain number of slots for court members (like 5?) and then list a non-member as sixth before cycling through.

@MinkishMinx Hah I figured out how to change the green to a better green! Huzzah! I will have to do that to my other post here momentarily, but first, let me try and answer your question.

 

I can definitely see you being able to get a 3rd gen offspring from a member of the Kings Court. Though I will have to leave getting a 2nd gen offspring from that Court up to @pretty_thumb considering she is manning the Kings Court and all of their pairings! I do know that if we ever open up to having Even Gens which at this point I am not sure will happen, so please no one jump on this mention of it as something that is going to happen or not, but if we do, I would love to get myself a 2nd gen from that pairing as well for the purpose of building an Even Gen. (If you can't tell I actually prefer Even Gens to any other type)

 

Huzzah, I just refreshed and saw pretty_thumb's response. I like that idea, we can allow a slot available to Non Court Members but it would need to fall in after Court Members and be cycled in. Obviously not wanting the person to just keep getting bumped so any other Court Members that come after that placement of 6th in line will be put afterwards just to be certain that everyone gets what they want and were not making anyone wait too terribly long!

 

PS. I love that blue and find it perfect and easy on the eyes pretty_thumb

I renamed one of my two CB Gaias (forgot I had a second!) to Baronne Chloe. I have the name Marquise Fleurette on a placeholder for my Chrono egg when she hatches, and I will decide on a name for my prince once he's laid and I know what kind of Xeno he is.

 

Ooo, lovely names!  I really like how Fleurette sounds.

Oh that sounds absolutely lovely! I just love seeing the excitement over this project and it has only been opened for a very short time I am just thrilled to be working so close with pretty_thumb on this and with our sister project and project owner, the Imperial Harem and MinkishMinx as well! I can't wait to see how your beautiful line turns out it sounds like you already have a good laid out plan of what you want to see happen and I am excited to see it come to fruition. I will breed for you as soon as I can, I am hesitant to drop an egg at this moment because they are all needed for one thing or another. I honestly did not expect anyone to want from any of the other lines other than the main lines at first so am honestly pleasantly surprised!

 

PS a note to @MinkishMinx I have noticed that you have a graphic in your signature but as of yet it doesn't link back, so once it does please feel free to announce it so that I may update the francs for the Queens Court!
