ANSWERED:BBCode editor

Recommended Posts

So, we all know the forums switched over to WYSIWYG. The issue? Frankly put, WYSIWYG can be quite "fun" to code in, and if you can't highlight fixing coding errors can be rather difficult. As, well, I at least do not care for hyperlinks autohyperlinking in the editor, nor am I a fan of the edit post editor at least on tablet, where you lose a lot of WYSIWYG capabilities like colour, links, size, etc etc. It's also impossible to shift+enter on mobile/tablet, meaning those limited to mobile for whatever reason are forced to display paragraph breaks. (Not this last bit may not be WYSIWYG caused, but I think it is.)

Hence, I suggest either: reverting to BBCode-visible editing OR adding an editor with BBCode visible.

I support this suggestion. I can get used to WYSIWYG, but I greatly prefer a BB code editor because it is much simpler to use. I have trouble with having to copy and paste links multiple times and creating a linked image can be annoying, among other things that can be difficult.

This is the editor the forums provides; there is no option to disable WYSIWYG.

You can still type bbcode into the editor and it should be parsed.

I came across this (removed) thread that indicates that killing WYSIWYG mode isn't easily possible within the software: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:F2bxUNWUNnIJ:https://invisionpower.com/42TEST/forums/topic/424757-suggestion-allow-for-a-basic-editor-instead-of-ckeditor/+&cd=9&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

I'm all for customizing the forum software, but ripping out core chunks (like the editor) and replacing them is begging to have things break every single upgrade, and I do plan on staying on top of software updates going forward.

I think having WYSIWYG on hand is good, especially for new users who aren't familiar with forum post formatting, but at least having the option to view the BBCode would be great.

The editor doesn't generate BBCode. There is no BBCode to view, unless you manually type things in.

I have access to a source button in the editor, and I can assure you, it's HTML all the way down.

Would it be feasible to allow HTML editing, then? I dunno if that'd allow users to insert other tags into the post, but if there's a way to limit that, any way to see the post formatting itself would be useful.

Ah, thanks for letting me know.

Looks like this will have to be locked then.
