Posted October 3, 2016 Welcome! This is an experiment devised by yours truly, Silverphoenixx! I'm aiming for a classic fantasy theme and a feeling similar to Colossal Cave Adventure if you know what that's like. It'll likely be a bit more detailed than that, but some posts might be little more than a sentence. This RP doesn't have an official name, but it's inspired by a game I play with my sister who calls it the "Potion Game". I've mostly played with my sister face to face, but she really liked it so I thought I could try to bring it to the forums. I'm not sure if this will work out the way I want to, but I'll definitely try. On the subject of the actual plot and setting, it's a very free, open world. You're an adventurer, whether you live in a bustling city or a rural hut. There's been rumors of gold and power out in the world, free for those who are brave enough to pursue it. Of course, with all the fantasy, monsters, and treasure surrounding you, there's bound to be quite a number of adventurers. What sets you apart is your magic. You have an innate ability to make potions out of almost anything you find, along with the ability to accurately identify most. You have enough potential to become a great magic user if you wish, but you also have the potential to become a powerful knight. If neither of those are your thing, you can even be a sneaky thief if you so desire. The possibilities are endless, and all up to me. There's not really a defined plot, but I'll definitely be building things up as I go. I won't lie, the power level in this will probably become outrageous. But that's alright! This is just for fun, nothing serious. I do expect proper punctuation and grammar to the best of your abilities, but I won't come chasing after you with a pointy stick if you miss a comma or forget to capitalize something. If you see a mistake you made, please try to fix it, even if you don't think anyone will read it again. I will be stricter on the logic of your post, but that's just so I can manage things without having this whole thing become a trainwreck of weirdness. Not that it won't become that, even with my interference. But it's the journey that counts! I'll be responding in shorter, less detailed posts (or at least that's how I'm planning it), but you're free to go and write a massive text wall if you want. I actually enjoy reading other people's posts, but I do get tired and I might be delayed by large chunks of text. Feel free to go full steam on the crazy, though. The structure of this means I can handle pretty much anything you want to happen, and I'll even accept things like: "I found a talking potato-bird-groundhog named Pierre Thomas the Foul and Almighty III who rides a unicorn tree squid and paints himself lavender." If you let your imagination run wild, it'll be all the more fun. Anyways, that's all for now. This is just a lighthearted thing I'm testing while I try to contain my excitement towards new RPs. If you follow Dreams, my other RP, this is what I referred to as the other thing I had planned if it didn't kick off. Not sure if this will take off either, but I'm not gonna be offended or anything if it doesn't. Also, I'm really struggling to name this so if anyone has a better idea than "Potion Game" then please tell me. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 6, 2016 You kinda got my interest. I do need a bit more information to see if I'm really liking it or not. It's kind of a bit vague to me. If I come up with a name, I'll be sure to let you know! (same problem I've mentioned before though, not much information to work with) Share this post Link to post
Posted October 6, 2016 Sounds interesting! I had heard about Colossal Cave Adventure before, but I didn't know what it was called; will our posts be a lot like that, where we give commands and you move us around? Or is it pretty much a free-for-all with that as a subtle element? I'm also guessing that we'll be jumping in right away with intro posts? The amount of ridiculousness that might happen in this RP is way too enticing... :'D Share this post Link to post
Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) are there going to be character sheets? (i'm totally down even if there aren't tho since i take so long to fill out sheets) Edited October 7, 2016 by Chrysophylox Share this post Link to post
Posted October 7, 2016 Sure. I'm in. Unfortunately it'll be a few days before by BT keyboard arrives. I live in a national park in NM now and there is barely satellite tv, let alone Wi-Fi. Ill be posting with my phone so I may be slow and grammatically challenged Share this post Link to post
Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) Well, it's really up to you guys. I wasn't thinking of detailed character sheets, more like just a reference/guideline type thing. You guys will have inventories/skill lists anyway so I can keep track of stuff. As for posts, you can choose the length of your post but I'm thinking a paragraph or so. Depends on what's happening, if you're just walking then you can say "I walk north for a mile" or something like that. Not really sure how to explain what I have in mind, the best way to do this would just be to try it and see how it goes I guess. Here's a tentative character sheet, you can be anything you want but try to keep it humanoid. I'd prefer if you were a human, but if you really want to be something else I'll let you. Username: Name in-game: (optional) Appearance: (put gender and age here too) Skills: (check with me for what's ok to start with) Inventory Items: Companions: Edit: Also, this will probably become the OOC so feel free to post things here. I'll keep this open for new people indefinitely so feel free to wait and see what happens, Felixr2. Edited October 8, 2016 by Silverphoenixx Share this post Link to post
Posted October 12, 2016 Username: padfoot Name in-game:Luke Skinner Appearance: Skinner is a 35 year old male. his official job title is an Exotic Matter Researcher and a doctor (although he does not have an official licence for medical practice). Technically he would be a considered a wizard or mage, do not let him catch you calling him that.He is the son of Bryce and Amellia Skinner. His father is known as the leading authority on fae relations and his mother is a rune translator and potion professor at the University of Gallia. That being said Skinner does not have a great relationship with his parents since they disapprove of his rejection or his magical talent. Skinner is built like a scarecrow, standing at 6'2" and weighing 150 soaking wet. He has a head of deep red hair that he tries (And often fails) to keep tidy and often keeps it covered with a old leather wide brimmed hat. His eyes are green with the milky film of a caterac in his left eye (accident when he was a teenager when he tried to artificially give himself heterochromia). Unless you caught him on a day where he is trying to look nice he has the stubble of a beard on his chin. His right arm is covered in keloid scars and his back is a mess of burn scars that came from when the Catholic Church burned his house down. Skills: Vocal and Rune based magic Inventory Items: one (1) aged cigarette holder one (1) heavily repaired hockey stick one (1) alchemy pad (rolled with a piece of twine and slung across his back when not in use) A worn leather black duster jacket that belonged to his father a hip satchel containing: three (3) pieces of chalk in white pink, and blue a pair of brass knuckles four (4) small glass vials (2 empty, one 1/3 full of mercury, one full of a viscous lavender fluid) one (1) tattered infinite pack of Lucky Strike brand cigarettes two (2) keys carved from oak a swiss army knife a leather bound notebook Companions: none (((Sorry for any spelling mistakes. My phone has a limited spell check and I have dyslexia so I have trouble seeing them when i proof read)))) Share this post Link to post
Posted October 12, 2016 our characters don't have to be self-inserts, right? Share this post Link to post
Posted October 15, 2016 No, they don't. Padfoot is accepted, I'll edit the first post soon. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) I hope this is alright!! Username: Chrysophylox Name in-game: Qingxuan "Cyan" Lie Appearance: Cyan is a young, demiboy (he/him, they them) child of 16, with fiery red hair in a shoulder length bob that covers his right eye. His eyes are onyx, with a spot of peacock blue eyeliner on the inner corners of his eyes. His outer corners are outlined with bright yellow eyeliner. He wears a simple set of clothing, with a crisp white button-up and a leather jacket. His pants are loose and black , paired with a pair of ankle-height lace-up boots. He has a belt that drapes across his body on his left shoulder, and there are small holsters and loops of leather that he puts his paints and brushes in. He has a satchel that he wears on his right shoulder, so the strap forms an X with his belt. That's where he usually keeps his sketchbook. Skills: He can draw things and they come to life, though they're moderately weak and cost a lot of magical energy. He's still in training, after all. He can draw on anything and it'll come to life, though he finds that drawing on high quality watercolor paper still has the best effect. In a pinch, he'll draw on his own skin, but it will hurt when the drawing "rips" off the canvas and comes to life. He can also control ink and paper to some extent, but that's a skill he's still developing. He mainly uses his magic for defensive purposes, drawing large walls and other objects to block attacks. Inventory Items: Watercolor sketchbook Set of 36-color watercolor pencils Watercolor brush pen Ink brush pen Set of 6-color felt tip pens Multi-pen (0.5 and 0.7 pencil + three gel pens) Companions: A small, ink bird that sits on his shoulder and is maintained with bits of ink and paper. It's designed after a Japanese long-tailed tit. Edited October 17, 2016 by Chrysophylox Share this post Link to post
Posted October 15, 2016 Hm... I'll accept this, but probably not allow the power to draw a copy of himself yet. The bird would probably be the limit of your beginning power and it would have to be small (sparrow-sized maybe). Everyone's abilities are being cut down to basics at the beginning, though I will keep in mind the "specializations". Also, are you going to be RPing the bird or do you want it under my control? By the way, everyone starts off with a "basic attack" of a standard neutral element magic projectile. It's weak, but just putting this info out there so that people won't feel pressured to have an offensive ability. Standard magic basically includes neutral element projectiles, shields, and teleportation, although shields and teleportation are more difficult. Every player character in this RP will have the ability to use this "standard magic" without having to get any special objects. Last question, do you guys want to start off in your homes or by traveling to a nearby dungeon? Your home will be independent from other people regardless of your age for the sake of the RP. I know it doesn't really make sense but it makes life a lot easier later on and to be honest I don't think much of the RP is going to make perfect sense anyway. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 15, 2016 oh i meant that like he'll draw on his hand or smthg. but i can edit that so it's more clear! and the bird's just gonna sit on his shoulder and do nothing. and yeah, it's about the size of a Japanese long-tailed tit. i'm fine with starting anywhere, honestly. Posted October 15, 2016 So I want to revive a favorite character of mine in a map I once played... but it's a chicken. Do you accept fully-fowl characters? I think you said you preferred humans or humanoids, so I wasn't sure; if it helps I can make my character so that it's played like a human, even though it isn't. I'm also fine with starting off in either a home or at the beginning of the dungeon. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 16, 2016 Yeah, that's fine. And that bird is super cute. Um... depends on how the chicken is? I mean I guess it would be fine, but I'm not sure if chickens would be able to brew potions or go adventuring... Share this post Link to post
Posted October 16, 2016 In the map I played it was basically like humans but instead with chickens; the chickens could even wield swords, talk, and had a society, so that's why I was asking. Basically it's supposed to be ridiculous. On that note though it wouldn't be hard to convert the character into a human, it just wouldn't have the vibe I was going for, which is why I thought I would ask first. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 17, 2016 Hm... I'll just say they're a race of naturally slightly telekinetic chickens who use telekinesis for picking things up... good enough. If they act totally the same as humans except as chickens, then sure. Why not? Share this post Link to post
