Posted November 14, 2015 "Whenever you feel okay to walk." Tony replied, his face red. Leave it to Clint to make everything worse. That man couldn't calm people down to save his life. When the girl sat up, he moved to help, hovering over her worriedly. "Slowly. SHIELD'll bust my ass if they catch us going on a stroll." For a moment, a grin flashed across his face. "You hungry? Food court should be empty at this hour." Nothing beat eating your feelings and avoiding confrontation. Maybe he'd be able to find a drink there too. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 14, 2015 Rain glanced up at him as he moved closer. She was sore and scared, but... there was something about Tony. Maybe the fact that he only wanted to do good. Or perhaps it was the innocently mischievous look on his face. But she felt that she could, maybe, perhaps... trust him. "Yes, let's," she said, glancing down. Way past caring, she pulled the monitors off her chest. Suddenly there was a long, low beep - and suddenly, almost instinctively, she looked to Tony. For help. Or maybe there was a hint of mischievousness there too. Shall we just run? Share this post Link to post
Posted November 14, 2015 Slowly did a grin creep across the man's worn, tired face. Exhaustion was soon replaced with a child-like deviousness. Giggling (softly, so he wouldn't wake up Clint and send him on their trail), he darted t the nearby wheelchair and swung it over. After all, he didn't want her to hurt herself even more. "Hurry." Tony whispered, stifling a laugh. "Let's see how many people we scare." Share this post Link to post
Posted November 14, 2015 Rain tried to tell herself - you really shouldn't. Then, - you're only doing this because he wants you to. And finally - I need some fun. Because nurses fussing really weren't on her present list at the moment. Swinging her legs over, she gingerly plopped down on the wheelchair. "Go!" she whispered. And a giggle actually escaped her. Posted November 14, 2015 Once rain was secure, Tony gripped the handles and tore out of the room, startling the sleeping archer awake. By time time Clint managed to get a grip on himself, however, the duo were already down the hall, screeching with laughter. As Tony ran, the loose slippers beneath his feet flopped of, leaving the man barefoot as he ran down the hall. Although everything was initially dead silent, the howls of laughter down the hall had agents of all sorts opened their doors to investigate. Who was up at this hour, pulling shenanigans? Romanoff was out on a mission and Bishop wasn't here to cause trouble with Barton. In fact, the archer looked dismayed that he'd been left out on the fun. Hmph. He'd have to call Wade later to cause trouble. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 14, 2015 Rain actually laughed again as they raced down the halls at the speed of sound. Tony was hooting above her. And as the flatline blared out behind her, it was almost representative of something dying. It was her old life, the life with the Purple Man - gone. People were looking at them, and she still had the sensibility to feel a little embarrassed - but this was so much fun. The speed, the terrifying lurch as they went around a corner. Glancing up at Tony, she laughed. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 14, 2015 This was great. Tony wasn't one for exercise (at all, actually. He hated it), but running for fun was, well, fun! He was a generally scrawny man in the muscle department, especially compared to the others of the team. Even Clint and Tasha were more ripped them him! The fun ended pretty abruptly when a scowling, eyepatched man stepped directly into their path. . Fury was up. Digging his heels into the ground, he forced the both of them to a halt. "And just what do you think you're doing, Stark?" The man asked, a scowl creasing on his face. "I...uh..." Tony stammered, struggling to come up with an answer. "MUTINY!" It was then that one of Tony's slipper sailed down the hall and hit Fury in the chest. It was a no-brainer who was at fault, mostly because he was holding the other slipper in his hands. Clint grinned, and tossed the other slipper. "Aw, c'mon Fury! They're jus' having a littl efun. Would it kill ya to let 'em run around?" Share this post Link to post
Posted November 14, 2015 Rain's smile came to an abrupt halt when they came face-to-face with an eyepatched man. She swallowed nervously, hands now gripping the arms of her wheelchair. Her knuckles were white. That expression reminded her so much of the Purple Man. When he was angry, and she was a device for him to unleash it on. And she couldn't even react, just taking the blows. You like hurting yourself anyway. But it wasn't the Purple Man. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 15, 2015 ((Rain getting triggered by Clint's preference to wear purple)) Fury's eye narrowed, his arms folding across his chest. He was silent for quite some time, before stopping and picking up the slippers. "It'll be on your head, agent Barton." He growled. The man turned and stalked away, his coat flapping behind him. The archer sagged, visibly relieved. That was a close one. They could've gotten into a lot of trouble. "Just, uh, try not to get me fired next time?" The archer asked, chuckling weakly. Even though he's been working with Fury for years, the Direcyour made him nervous. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 15, 2015 (edited) ((ZOMG what if one day in the stark tower she wakes up and he's been drunk/or something and has stumbled into her bed and he's wearing purple... I'm a bad, bad person.)) Finally, the eyepatch man walked away. It was suiting, that they called him Fury. It perfectly described what was in his eyes. He was intimidating; she didn't look forward to their next encounter. Rain had to force her fingers to uncurl from being anchored onto her wheelchair's arms. Tilting back her head, she looked up at Tony expectantly. Was the food place still an option now? She was a little hungry... Edited November 15, 2015 by Chicogal Share this post Link to post
Posted November 16, 2015 As soon as Fury left, Clint visibly relaxed. That was close. Throwing slippers was really an impulsive move. The archer walked slowly to catch up with the duo, his expression still uneasy. "Jeez...that almost got my ass whooped." He breathed. Falling into pace next to Tony, he walked alongside the wheelchair's occupant. "Anyways...I heard something about food? The cafeteria makes awesome milkshakes." "Yeah. I mean, Rain hasn't eaten in a least a day." Tony replied, nodding to the archer's question. That had been close. The last thing he wanted was to be kicked out of a SHIELD base. He had promised to take care of Rain, so that was what he'd do. ((Clint is mortified of drinking, thanks to his dad and brother. I can imagine him accidentally stumbling into the wrong room in the middle of the night, though. Clint not realizing Rain's upset because he's already taken his hearing aids out and the lights are off.)) Share this post Link to post
Posted November 16, 2015 ((why you taunt me with such delicious ideas? ;_) Rain frowned a little as she rolled andtheyhated. From what she could tell, this Fury guy was someone high up in SHIELD. "Is he, like, your boss?" she asked Tony, twisting around in your seat. "It sounds real easy to be fired..." She suspected that they were being melodramatic though. Where would they find another Iron Man or- well, she wasn't sure of what Clint was other than an archer. They could probably find another archer if needed. "Milkshakes sound amazing." Posted November 16, 2015 "Me? No way. I'm my own boss." Tony replied, grinning at the girl. Fury was letting him stay out of the goodness of the man's heart, and for no other reason. Tony was a bad influence. "Bird brain over here, he's the one who's get fired." To this, the archer scowled, crossing his arms over his chest. He only worked for SHIELD sometimes, other times he did...Well, he did other stuff. Normal stuff. Like feeding his dog. He needed to put dog food on his grocery list. "Fury'd never fire me. I'm the best shot there is, and you know it." Clint replied, sticking his tongue out. For all his silliness, Clint was the best marksman in the world. "You're just still mad about that game of pool." The game, in which Tony lost about $1,500 to Clint. After all, who could've guessed that he was good at pool too? "But yeah, fries and a milkshake sounds great right now. We can use my food card." Posted November 16, 2015 Rain giggled to herself quietly at Tony's remarks. He was.. funny. Earlier, he'd come across as more serious. Then again, he had just rescued her from a psychopath's prison. And what he had done could never be looked upon lightly. But since they'd torn out of that hospital room, she'd picked up on a bit of snark and cheek. And she just couldn't help the slight smile that picked up the corners of her lips. This wasn't a man like the Purple Man. Tony wasn't slippery or sly. He was just... funny. "Y'know, fries dipped in milkshake make for a healthy lifestyle, so I've heard..." she murmured with a grin. "Especially when the fries are dipped in the milkshake." Share this post Link to post
Posted November 18, 2015 ((Sorry D:)) "Mm...that sounds good." Clint agreed, turning a corner. Tony chuckled softly in response. The cafeteria was huge, with many tables and booths. Clint walked up to the walk-through service, swiped his card, and walked through. Three milkshakes and a ton of fries. That wasn't too difficult. And yet, watching him struggle to carry it all was pretty funny. Wheeling Rain over to a table, Tony took a seat and watched Clint balance everything. He actually was doing pretty well! Maybe it was the whole "circus" thing that made him good at weird stuff. But the blond returned with three milkshakes and a bucket of fries, plopping them on the table. "There we go." Posted November 18, 2015 Rain propped herself up on the table with her elbows, interlacing her fingers underneath her chin. She was forever glancing this way and that, cringing slightly as people passed behind her. She wasn't used to people. She was used to pain and terror, the only person near her being the Purple Man or another one of his girls. Eventually Clint returned, and she took her milkshake from him. "Thank you," she said, sitting quite stiffly. This place was loud and strange; so brightly lit and different from the dankness of the house. Her cup suffered the wrath of her tight grip, the cardboard crinkling slightly. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 19, 2015 "So...yer name is Rain, right?" Clint asked, taking a handful of fries and stuffing them into his mouth. Unlike Tony, Clint ate like it was the end of the world. Tony took one fry at a time, chewing carefully before swallowing. They were clear foils to each other. Totally different. It was a wonder they were even friends. "I'm Clinton. Though, uh, friends call me Clint. My employers call me Barton." He chuckled through a mouthful of food. As he spoke, he signed his own name, just out of reflex. It was a C, pulled back like an arrow. He had names for everyone, based on their personalities. He'd need one for Rain, too. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 19, 2015 Rain started as Clint spoke to her, jolting out of her hyper-aware state. She smiled thinly at him, nodding. "Yeah. Pretty coincidental I'd be named that," she commented softly. Perhaps her parents knew, in some way. She would never find out. And she didn't think she'd want to. As Clint spoke, he made this... strange motion with his fingers. Maybe it was his signal or gang sign or something. "May I call you Clint?" she asked, taking a fry and dipping it into the milkshake. Posted November 20, 2015 Clint tilted his head for a moment, as if confused. Instantly did he perk up, laughing as he nodded. "Yeah! Only my mom called me Clinton." Tony raised an eyebrow at the archer. "Called"? How much did this guy hide behind smiles and stories about a circus? Were the circus stories even true? Clint was the cheeriest of the entire team, but sometimes he got this...look about him. Certain words or phrases invoked a haunted expression. Catching the look Tony gave him, the archer glanced away. "Rain...'s a nice name. N' having powers like that? 'S awesome." Clint continued, his eyes now on the table. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 21, 2015 Rain laughed softly, giving her head a small shake. "I don't know if it is," she admitted. "We just seem to be looked at like subjects for experiment... I know what happened a few years ago. It was before my powers showed up, but I was still aware of it." She fiddled with her bangles of ice. It had been a most terrible time. Their country was so quick to criticise discrimination of any kind, and yet they turned back into the witch-hunters of old when threatened with mutants. Anyway. Glancing up at them, she shrugged with a sad smile and took a sip of her milkshake, leaning back in her chair. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 27, 2015 "This may just be my opinion, but..." Tony looked up at the girl, his expression softening. "Mutants are just as normal as anyone else. I mean it. You're just as human as I am." He swished his straw around in his drink for a few silent moments, before standing. "Now, I meant my offer earlier. If you want to stay with me, in my tower...You're welcome to." --- "This isn't some sort of joke, you're serious about being Miss Rowe's foster parent?" Fury looked up from the paperwork in his hands, eyeing both his visitors with surprise. That was the last thing he expected from Tony Stark. But the firm look on the billionaire's face was pretty convincing. "...fine. I will look into it. Remember that Foster Parents need a safe environment for their children. And, in turn, stable guardians. You will be placed under review for eligibility." Share this post Link to post
Posted November 27, 2015 Rain twisted her fingers in front of her, nervous in the presence of the aptly-named Fury in front of her. He was incredulous, and yet... Took Tony seriously. Which was a little surprising. But when she glanced at him, she could see why. There was something there she hadn't seen before on his face - it was pure determination. For her. It wasn't the determination of the Purple Man - it was the determination of Tony. This wasn't the determination to have someone and to hurt them. Fury finally agreed, and she visibly relaxed. He put so much tension in the room. Glancing sideways, Rain just smiled at Tony. One thing down. Share this post Link to post
Posted November 28, 2015 Tony, too, relaxed at Fury's words. He had half-expected the Director to reject the request completely. He opened his mouth to speak, but was quickly silenced. "With this in mind, Mister Stark..." He fixed his usual glower on the man, but leaned back in his seat. "She cannot stay with you until you are cleared to be a safe guardian." The Billionaire sighed audibly. He was so close! "You can, however, visit." He cleared his throat, as if ushering the two to leave. "Go shopping. Get some teenage-appropriate furnishings. Just...Stop pestering the agents here." Share this post Link to post
