The Past

There have always been two.

Well, that’s not exactly true. For a short time in the very beginning, there was only one. But the second came so quickly after, and such a long time has passed since then, that they do not know themselves who was the first and who was the second. Nor do they need to know.

But there were always two.

If one was the sun, the other was the moon. If one was the mountain the other would be the valley. If one was fire and heat, the other would be water and cold.

The two were always friends.

They walked the universe together, hand in hand, and watched as the world formed around them, growing and taking shape. They each had their own duties together and they were comforted by knowing that, while all else faded, they would always have one another.

But it was not to last.

Chaos swept across their world, their origin unknown but their motives cruel. The Day, the Mountain, the Light was lost to the swarm while the Night, the Valley, the Dark was cast down, having lost it’s Eternal form to the Chaos. Harmony in the world was lost and there was only one. Bitter, angry and alone, they wandered the world.

And slowly, they forgot.

The Present

Ages have past since that time. Chaos has long since fallen dormant, retreating into the underground and allowing the world to heal. Humans have formed many villages across the countryside and the world has known peace for some time. So long, in fact, that the one that was lost to the Chaos so long ago has been reborn in one of these human villages. While weakened and feeble, they still have a few, faint memories of another who was once their friend. Drawn to the unknown beyond the safety of their village and knowing they had to find the one who once walked beside them or at least know their fate, they decided to leave their village behind. Armed with their wits, whatever they can carry on their back and a strange magic that flows through their veins like fire, they decide to set out into the unknown and find the one who haunts their memories.

The Future

Basically, this RP is about two gods, one who died and was reborn as a human and the other who lost most of their power and has wandered the world for many years along. It's set in an alternate-Earth with magic and dragons and other cool fantasy stuff and where most of the Earth has not been colonized and instead belongs the to various, nonhuman creatures that live there. This story is designed to be a romance between the two gods but it would very much be a slow-burn romance since one has only a few, scattered memories and the other completely forgot with the passage of time.

Is anyone interested? I'd really love someone who is more active but as long as this doesn't die off, I'll be really happy.

Whoooo!

So I guess we should start with character design. I tried to make the intro gender neutral so any gender works for the gods. Did you have any preference for that or should we both just see what we come up with?

I think it'd be more fun to see what surprises we come up with :3

which god do you want, for starters?

I think'd I'd rather go with the one who didn't die. I've got a good idea for him that I'm going to have a great time with.

Whoops sorry I was busy!

Also, my character is a nerd and is going to need an actual name for people to call him since he hasn't ever needed one before.

Name: The Night, the Valley, the Dark (Since his other half was lost, he hasn’t been in much contact with others. He never really needed a way to think of himself because he usually just thinks of deities in abstract terms)

Age: Eternal

Pronouns: He/him, they/them

Species: Demigod (De-powered god)

Appearance: At a first glance, he doesn’t look even remotely different from another person. He has very dark skin and long, dark brown hair that is slicked back away from his face. In line with the times, he wears primarily a white tunic with a brown belt around the waist, as well as maroon colored pants and brown boots. His eyes are are a striking, unnatural green and his arms are covered in bandages while he keeps a black scarf wrapped around his face to cover his mouth and everything below his nose. This is because much of his body was scarred during the experience where his powers were removed from him, along with a few other side affects. These are an effort to hide the many scars that cover his body and, as such, most of his body except his hands and his face are hidden by fabric of some kind or another.

Personality: As a god, he tends to be very passive in his ways, preferring to remove himself from much of the others who inhabit the world he helped to create. In the past, he was a very kind and caring individual who had a great deal of difficulty communicating his feels to others. This has not changed since the past, however, his isolation from others and the loss of his other half has made him bitter towards the world and his tolerance for others has decreased, as well as his apathy and indifference towards other matters rising. He’s become much more of a recluse, generally keeping to himself and deliberately avoiding others out of spite.

Abilities: In the past, this god was an all-powerful being. He controlled many aspects of reality and being, usually in opposite of the other god. However, when the entity known as Chaos came, he was divided from most of his power. The list that remains is small and limited in comparison to what used to have been.

-He cannot die of old age

-He is more in tune with the magical nature of the world and can cast basic spells

-He has an affinity towards the elements he used to control and can still manipulate them to a small degree.

Name: Aedus/The Sun, The Mountain, The Light: Pallian (pie-ain)

Age: 18/ageless

Gender: male/ lol gods don't have genders

Sexuality: Pan/???

History: Little is known of his origins, other than the contract his parents sealed. A beast and a human, although deeply in love with one another, were unable to be together. Seeking a way around this, a contact was made with a powerful Fae. The beast was able to take a human form, only if their firstborn was given to the Fae. This was agreed upon. So when a child was born, a blend between both man and magic, it was taken into the care of the Fae. The child was named Aedus, and has spent his whole life as a servant, working for a wealthy estate of Fae. Of course, this is difficult and generally fulfilling work. He is an unstable half-breed of both man and siren, his only disguise of his fish-like form is granted to him by his masters.

Pallian was the second of the two beings of eternity, one of fierce radiance and light. This being so, the god was the one to shape the earth. While their other half filled the land with water and burrow caves into the land, Pallian breathed life onto the planet. Although the god loved the dragons, in which they shaped their essence into, it was the merfolk that they loved most. A creature able to love the elements of the Water, The Moon, and the Darkness as much as Pallian themself. So when the god finally succumbed to chaos, Pallian used the rest of their power to reinstate a life as one with the water so that they could love their other half even in another life.

Abilities:

- water breathing, though their illusion doesn't last while under water.

- not much else

I love him

Anyway, how do you want to start off? Despite being a hopeless recluse, my character might occasionally strike a deal with Fae for materials they couldn't otherwise find. Unless Aedus runs off somewhere and finds his little home.

Run away from a powerful Fae? Probably not. Your character you likely find mine before the other way around.

Alright, then we can go with the first one.

Man, Aedus better give him a nickname or something because my character is getting hard to mention without literally calling him The Moon, the Valley, the Dark.

Anyway, I assume the Fae live deep in the forest, right? I'm going to start writing up an intro but I'm not sure how you want their home to look.

Fae are mainly forest bases yeah. Some place deep in the woods there's what appears to be a small cottage, and there's a shed beside it. A creek runs not far away from it all. Once inside the cottage, however, it's revealed that the building is massive and impossibly lavish. The shed is where Aedus sleeps. Inside, it's a slightly larger shed re-purposed into a bedroom.

((Alright, cool!))

It wasn’t often he moved out of his own home and the area surrounding. Thanks to the prime location in a divot in the land surrounded by large hills, and the surrounding swamp that kept most visitors out thanks to rumors it may be haunted, most of what he ever needed could be found right outside his very home. He never had to wander far to find what he needed in order to occupy his time. But occasionally, he did encounter a few problems. Things he couldn’t find in his home or items that he needed but couldn’t seem to find. When that time came, he knew that there was always a place he could go to get what he needed.

And that was where he found himself now, standing on the step of a small cottage in the woods that looked very much out of place in the thick forest. Glancing briefly at the shed by the side of the shed and noting mentally it hadn’t been there the last time he had come to this place, the god shook his head slightly then turned back to the door. Lifting one bandaged hand, he tapped the door with his knuckle. The hollow knocking sounds rang out in the woods, silencing the call of birds that filled the forest and seemingly filling the entire area with silence. “Fae,” The god said, his voice slightly muffled by the scarf covering his mouth. “Are you home? I require your assistance."

There was only a few seconds pause until a door opened. It was not, however, the door to the cottage. Fae didn't often welcome strangers, and were not inclined to allow strangers into their homes. But the door that opened didn't belong to the fae. A young man appeared from it, an axe in one hand. He was rather short for his age, with a slim, almost undernourished build. His skin was pale, as was most of the human inhabitants of the forest. But what was so striking about this man was his eyes. They blazed an unnatural golden that shimmered even in the lowest of light. Aedus had always blamed it on his mother, as such eye colors were impossible for man.

"Are you lost, stranger?" The young man asked. Lifting the axe to rest upon his shoulder, he turned and closed the shed door behind him. Aedus was no master of this house, that was clear. His clothes were well-worn and patched, and his leather boots frayed at the soles. He was no Fae. And yet, any powerful creature could feel a hum of magic in his being. It was one the Fae never told him, and one Aedus was oblivious to. The young man offered a sympathetic smile, tilting his head slightly. "It isn't often my master accepts strangers. If you stick around, though, they might change their mind."

The god shifted slightly as the door to the shed opened and a man stepped out into the scattered light of the forest. Glancing wearily in his direction and briefly focusing on the axe, he took a slight step backwards and rolled his shoulders slightly. "I am not lost," He replied, sounding slightly offended at the accusation. He had created these lands and walked among them for eons. He didn't get lost. Glancing over the man again, the god frowned slightly at the familiar hum of magic that had filled the air since he stepped out of the shack. It was strong, too strong for a normal man. Clearly, something was special about this one. How... odd.

"Nor am I a stranger to your master, unless he has forgotten me since the last time I was here." He tilted his head slightly to the side then focused on the axe. "But what of you?" He asked softly. "What are you doing in the company of a Fae? It isn't often other creatures will associate with them. Did you find yourself on the wrong end of a deal?"

"That is indeed odd. It is not often my master would turn away a regular patron." The young man replied, clearly puzzled. It was likely his master was busy, and was not in the mood to entertain guests.

"What are you doing in the company of a Fae? It isn't often other creatures will associate with them. Did you find yourself on the wrong end of a deal?"

Surprise flickered in Aedus's eyes as attention was turned to him. He was just a servant; nobody really payed attention to him. A human was of little interest as compared to the powerful Fae he served. The man looked away, as if unsure how to respond. "I...was the price of a deal." He replied softly. Although it was not Aedus's fault, he found much shame in his origins. Coughing awkwardly, he returned the axe to both his hands. Idle talk would lead to punishment.

"The manor is in need of firewood. If you wish to accompany me, I will be able to escort you inside afterwards." Although not a favorable choice, it was one Aedus himself had little choice over. Every day he had a list of tasks to complete. This was his last one. He gave a short bow, and began to walk.

Regular patron would be a good word for him had he actually appeared more than once every several years. While he did appear many times, his visits were always spaced out in a very unusual manner. It might be a few months since his last visit, or several dozen years. He didn't even know if the Fae had any other regular patrons. Sure there was an occasional deal or barter but did anyone else bother to repeatedly come back? Dealing with Faes could be pretty frustrating to deal with.

"That's... unfortunate," the god replied with a slight frown, glancing away. So his parents had made a deal then and he had been taken. That was usually how it happened. But it wasn't really any of his business what the Fae did in his spare time. If someone wanted to judge that was fine but he was in no position to judge. It wasn't that he didn't care, he just didn't have the energy to care. "Very well," He replied, stepping off the front step and walking over to Aedus. Small talk was not exactly his strongest point so he simply remained nearby, waiting for Aedus to either continue the situation or start collecting the firewood he needed to acquire.

Aedus walked for a short while, winding his way down a well-trodden path into the forest. The further he walked, the more feral the wilderness became. The circle of protection the man's master imposed around their manor didn't reach very far. Though, this didn't seem to bother the young slave. Perhaps it was the crossbow at his hip. Or maybe it was the thought of having another person to accompany him. Whatever the reason, he walked at a calm yet brisk pace.

The tree the man settled for had already been fallen. Judging by the fresh stump nearby, this was just a chance to gather a previous day's work. The stump, of which, he gave a few hacks at. It seemed he was trying to make some makeshift seat for his company. "I...um...You can sit here if you would like..." Another nervous cough, and he turned to the tree. His strength was hidden by his small stature. A lifetime of manual labor gave him lean muscle, and not much more.

---

Together? Impossible. Taken, yes...One was taken quite some time ago. You remember the day the sun turned cold. The sphere above the land is naught but a pale conjuration.

But you, too, sense it. We are not the only ones bonded beyond physical limits.

This silent conversation was carried on within the very same forest. A stag stood, staring in the direction of an uncanny feeling. One side of the beast was well-fed, muscular, and all together healthy. The other, however, remained emaciated. Its fur was missing in clumps, and its head was naught but a skull. More than this, however, was the fact that its impressive antlers were trees. The healthy stag's antler was thick with green leaves, which the starved half's were shriveled and small.

They were known by many named. Feast and Famine, Fortune and Misfortune, Wealth and Ruin. Although they seemed opposite, they had a relationship as close as the two origin deities. one could simply not exist without the other. Together, they were known by just as many titles. They were Fate, the Judgement of life, the One of Order. Being such, they couldn't ignore such a powerful aura. A soft trot quickly broke into a gallop, and the beast appeared before the entity known as The Night, the Valley, the Dark. It snorted, glancing from the god and the man who was certainly not a man.

"What is the meaning of this, one of the water? Have you managed to scrape together a thrall of your past lover? For this is not what we sensed." The stag pawed at the ground impatiently, staring at Aedus indifferently even as he drew his crossbow.

"Beast! Stay back!" He spat. Although his words were brave, his expression betrayed his fear. What this creature was saying...it made something crawl in the back of his mind. Something that scared him. "G-g...G-go away!"

Silently, the god followed the man into the forest, noting quietly to himself the change in the scenery. Of course, he had noticed it coming in since he had walked to the small cottage but it always was interesting to see how quickly the forest changed once the barrier faded. But even without the sweet and pleasant songs of birds, the forest still continued to sing. Leaves rustled in the wind, many animals called out to one another and insects shrieked all around. It was easily an uncomfortable environment to some but it did not phase the god in the slightest as he walked among the plants, hardly causing a disturbance in the land.

"Thank you," The man muttered, fidgeting slightly with the ends of his scarf as he moved to sit on the stump, only to pause and turn towards the beast that had entered the clearing. The stag was certainly a figure known to the deity but that didn't mean he commonly associated with them. "Don't," He said softly, lifting a hand in the direction of the man even as he turned his entire body to face the stag. At the words, the god scowled, his expression clear even with his lower mouth covered. "I do not know what you speak of," He replied, his eyes narrowing suspiciously. "I have valued my space since the beginning. Do not barge in so suddenly and demand answers to questions that do not make sense."

Looking away, deliberately not at both Aedus or the stag, he focused on the ground at his feet and gestured to the grass with a hand. "Chaos slumbers still, this you know. Tell you and the rest of yours that until a time comes that it awakens, I do not desire the company of other gods. Just leave me be and we will be much happier.."

"So you do not know?" The gods tilted their head, as if visibly intrigued by this. The crossbow in Aedus's hands fell apart, tumbling in pieces to the ground. They clearly didn't care for the other god's distaste in being intruded upon, and instead walked forward. "All these years and you cannot even recognize the soul of your one true other. The times we have been separated...I always knew where our pieces were. Shame on you for being unable to." The stag advanced, herding Aedus into a location where he couldn't run. One of the massive, albeit old, trees worked perfectly for this. The being of balance puffed hot breath into the young man's face, their hollow eyes boring into his.

And for a moment, everything connected. A clarity rushed into his mind and pushed away all the fear and confusion that swarmed within him. As if a door had been swung open, two pasts unraveled before his eyes. One was not his own, but seemed incredibly familiar. Many parts of it were obscured, poisoned by some unforeseen entity. And what remained shined only dimly. As soon as the doors were thrown open, they were slammed shut once more.

"We understand now." The Judge, Fate, leaned in so their nose touched Aedus's forehead. Layers of magic melted away, revealing not one, but two disguises. The first layer what the man's human form, which dissolved with hardly even a touch. Fae magic, although powerful, paled in comparison to that of a god. The second, however, resisted. As soft skin gave way to scales and fins, a glow appeared in Aedus's chest. It started off faint, but grew until a whole shape was revealed. It could be nothing but a sun, pulsing gently with each beat of the boy's heart. Stunned into silence, he staggered back against the tree in which he was pinned.

"After these millennia, you don't even remember your own name, do you?" The stag snorted, turning its head back to the seated god. It turned back towards the thicket of wilderness, seemingly done with the conversation. "Perhaps you should start to remember. We are a being of balance. We expect you to restore it." The gods leaped over the fallen tree, retreating almost as soon as they had appeared.

With his captor gone, however, Aedus's was feeling faint. He swayed once before his legs bucked beneath him. His head ached...and that crawling... His knees hit the ground first, and then his torso, causing the half-breed to fall forward. A blank expression remained on the man's face, as if not entirely present. No, most of Aedus's energy was working on keeping him from death. all that power at once...it wasn't safe for a mortal body.

He was the origin god. It was from him life extended, from his own blood rivers formed and from his own flesh the earth was created. Without him, no others should or would exist. The other gods, no matter their domain, were all a product of him. They should be beneath him.

And yet, despite the fact this thought pounded in his head, the Cold, the Negative, the After stepped backwards quickly as the other god walked forward, his shoulders rising slightly and his head sinking down in clear and obvious discomfort and, possibly, fear. His left hand curled into a fist as he watched the stag ignored him completely, instead cornering down the human and boxing him against a tree. Taking a deep breath, the god hesitated...then allowed his fist to slowly uncurl and his hand hang limply at his side.

Don't get involved. He didn't know this creature well enough and it was too dangerous for him to interfere with the Judge. Despite what he had once been, he was scarcely a shell of his older self now. He didn't want to be around other gods because he could no longer stand beside them. He was trapped beneath them always and forever. He could hardly even be called a god anymore. He was too weak. Staring at the ground, he closed his eyes as the stag bounded off into the forest, leaving himself and the creature alone yet again.

Finally sparing a glance upwards, they hesitantly moved forward, glancing around to make sure the god would not return before swiftly moving to the side of the fallen creature. Feeling his forehead, he hesitantly looked him over. He didn't know what to do. He could feel the energy radiating off the creature in unnatural amounts but it was foreign and cut off from him. Hesitantly, he tried to grab at the powerful energy, to pull it away from the creature, but his hands tensed up as the magic burned his hands. He couldn't manipulate it even if he tried. Trying to help the Aedus would just result in his own death. He didn't know how to help. Leaving him to die was not an option. But he had no idea how to heal what the stag had done. Grunting slightly, he settled for slipping his arms under Aedus's body and lifting him up, leaving behind the axe and instead quickly running back towards the Fae's home. The Fae could surely fix this problem. "FAE!" He yelled as the feral forest faded away and the quiet surroundings of the cottage came into view. Surely that blasted creature wasn't still holed up in his house.

Although the god's voice rang through the clearing, no response followed. The trees whispered, their branches rustling as a soft breeze stirred. The world around the two was quick to respond with shrieks and hisses, the entire forest resounding. The silence was only met when a small figure emerged. A child, not older than twelve, entered the small clearing. If not for the angled face and eyes, it could easily be perceived as human. The look in its eyes however, proved otherwise. This was a creature that was nearly timeless. This, without a doubt, was a Fae.

"I was uncertain at first, but this proves it." As they walked forward, they tilted their head slightly. "He has always been an odd one, borne of both the land and sea. His energy was always stronger than both." They turned and walked to the cottage, the door swinging open silently "I can now see his love for the water extends beyond his mortal form. Come, I will do all I can." Inside, the lush manor warped into an alchemy room, complete with a cot and cauldron. The Fae took Aedus from the god's grasp, laying the creature on the cot. For what appeared to be a child, they were surprisingly strong.

A few ineffective potions later, and the Fae was clearly frustrated. They tested a few spells as well, but little helped. "I believe there is only one solution." They finally declared. They stopped in their work, turning to look the god in the face. "I can hide this energy, tuck it away for some time. But the rest...the rest you must do. If you wish for him to live, you must help him."

"I know little of the tales, but more than most. If this symbol...this beam of energy on his chest is what I believe it is...then he is your responsibility."
