Murphy's Laws for the DC life

Murphy's Laws on DC

Murphy's Laws on Dragon Breeding

1. If you find the perfect mate for your dragon, you will get a refusal.

...1a. And over time you will forget and try to breed them again - only to get heartbroken a second time.

...1b. The rarity of a dragon is directly proportional to the probability of a refusal.

...1c. The time, luck and effort required to catch/breed a dragon are directly proportional to the probability of a refusal.

...1d. When you finally replace the mate, the new one will refuse too.

2. If you accidentally breed a dragon with the wrong mate, you will get an egg.

...2a. Especially if the mate is inbred or related to the first dragon.

...2b. A dragon will be uninterested in countless CBs/nicely lineaged mates and breed with a messy mutt on the first try.

3. If you don't test breed your holiday pairings, the dragons will refuse once the breeding season is over.

4. Your rare dragon will lay its first rare egg when you're locked.

...4a. A particularly rare pairing will only produce an egg the day before a release.

...4b [Halloween '15 Corollary]. If you want to breed your potion-affected rare "just for fun" while locked, and so choose a rare mate to reduce chances of successful breeding to zero, you'll get your first ever self-bred rare egg. Which will auto-abandon, naturally.

5. If you're trying to breed a common from a rare for a lineage, you will either never get any eggs or only get the wrong breed.

...5a. When building a commons lineage, you will always get the breed you didn't want.

...5b. Except when you accidentally bred it when locked and it autos.

...5c. When you finally get the right egg, a new release happens.

...5d. When building a common lineage and finally getting an egg of the right breed, it'll misgender. Or miscolor.

...5e. If it doesn't misgender or miscolor, turn alt or whatever, you'll accidentally freeze or kill it.

...5f. If, for some reason, the rules #5 don't apply, rule #1 does.

6. When someone asks you to breed something for them, your normally prolific dragon will not be interested for weeks.

...6a. In fact, you'll get the request shortly after you breed said dragon and dump the egg.

...6b. Your dragons will finally produce the egg you've promised when you didn't realize you were scroll-locked.

7. Your Lunar Herald will refuse or be uninterested until one time you don't check the moons' phases and you get a variant you don't want.

8. If you attempt to continue a Holiday stairstep, both of your CB Holidays won't cooperate.

9. Your dragons will happily breed with their parents, siblings and children... unless you're working on an inbred lineage.

10. When you really need an egg from a certain pairing, they will refuse.

11. When you only have one dragon of a rare breed that you like with a nice lineage, it will refuse everything.

...11a. When it doesn't refuse, it will not show much interest.

12. Your prize dragon will merrily produce an egg whenever you aren't trying to breed one for someone, but the second you have someone you are trying to get an egg for, it will not give any eggs.

...12a. Or it will give fails

...12b. You try giving it a break with a different mate, breed a very common thinking you will just get a fail, and you get a prize.

...12c. When you switch back to the intended mate, you get more no interest, no eggs, or wrong eggs.

...12d. And when you finally get the right egg, it will be auto'd.

13. You will start gathering nice mates for your holidays months in advance, but you will forget and use them for something else.

...13a. And find yourself with no suitable mates when the breeding season begins.

14. The pair that has been uncooperative for months will only ever give you the egg you want if it's for someone else

Murphy's Laws on Egg Hunting

1. When you decide to start a lineage with commons, said commons will suddenly disappear from the biomes.

...1a. They will also disappear from the AP, even if they're normally common there.

2. Rares will appear when you're locked without noticing.

...2a. Especially if you're locked with hatchlings, but have egg spaces to spare.

3. Rares will appear while you're hunting for a new release.

4. If you miss a release, the new dragon will become extra rare.

...4a. You will always miss a release when there are multiple outcomes, all of which become rare.

...4b. If you abandon or give away extra new release eggs while thinking you can catch a bunch more later, they'll be rare.

5. If you click on any biome and then leave its tab open without checking it, you will find that *one* egg you've been hunting for when you return to said tab.

6. When you finally find that dragon you've been hunting for for ages, the hourly lag hits.

7. When you finally unlock after the holiday breeding season, the AP will have just been emptied.

8. When you FINALLY catch a holly in the AP that has a nice-looking lineage, it's very, very hard to continue. Proof!

9. All the pretty-lineaged Holidays in the AP will be grabbed while you're busy abandoning the messy eggs you've stuffed your scroll with.

...9a: If you can choose between several holiday eggs in the AP, you'll always end up grabbing the one you just tossed back.

...9b: If you abandon an egg you've been lukewarm about to make room, you'll neither get it back nor find anything but messy lineages.

10. When looking for the perfect code, it will be one character off just to taunt you.

...10a. AND you won't get it anyway.

...10b. AND it will be either messy or a species you hate, just to rub it in some more.

11. AP walls are never of your favourite breed.

...11a. When you do see a cluster of your favorite breed, all the ones you pick up will be messy/inbred, but shortly afterward you will see beautiful ones posted on "Great Lineages in the AP."

...11b. Especially if it's the checker mate you've been hoping to stumble across for months.

...11c. And there's no way to find out who bred it, so you can't ask for one.

12. If you hunt the AP for incuhatchable CBs, you will only find bred eggs.

...12a. If you hunt the AP for bred eggs, you will only find CBs.

...12b. If you hunt the AP for messy dragons to freeze/bite/zombify/whatever, you will only find pretty checkers.

13. When you finally encounter a CB gold or silver, someone else will get it before you, even if 0 users are viewing the biome.

14. An egg you'd really, really like to have on your scroll will instead be caught by an inexperienced player and left to die with no views.

15. The dragon you carelessly abandon/release in your newbie days because it's too common or you don't like the sprite will become very valuable after the breed's retirement.

16. The dragon you refuse to collect because you don't like the sprite will get a revamp (new sprite, amazing BSA) and become very desirable... for you and everybody else. Good luck catching one.

17. When you see a rare or a hatchling in the AP, you'll freak out and click anywhere around the sprite except on it.

18. If you might have clicked the egg too slow, you definitely lost it.

...18a. Unless it was a misclick.

19. After a hybrid dragon is released, you will never find anything but hybrid fails of the parents in the AP again.

20. If you get a rare, someone will put it on 52 different click sites.

21. If you find a rare in the AP, it will have the worst lineage you have ever seen.

...21a. If it does have a nice lineage, it will be an accidental autoabandon that someone is desperately searching for.

...21b. And even if it isn't, you'll torture yourself for days, wondering if you have snatched an egg intended for someone else.

22. Releases and updates will never occur when you expect them, even when they have been announced.

23. When you're in the mood to AP hunt, all the eggs are over 6 days.

24. If you try to hit the Cave on the five-minute drops, you'll keep missing every single one of them.

25. "Incu-hatchable" AP eggs actually take forever to hatch once they hit your scroll.

...25a. Especially if you need room for something special.

26. Parents/children/spouses/friends/pets ignore you for hours, but need you urgently when a hourly drop begins.

...26a. If you are alone in the house, the phone/doorbell rings.

...26b. This rule also applies during DC's holiday events and releases.

27. Law of reverse availability: When you're locked with fresh CBs, the egg you've been chasing fruitlessly for hours will magically gain the status of "cave blocker".

28. Your favourite breed (or breed combination, if you're into lineages) will either be too popular (everyone grabs the eggs) or too unpopular (no-one ever breeds the eggs you need).

29. If you are not looking for a common dragon it will block the cave and annoy you.

...29a. If you are looking for it, it will suddenly go extinct.

30. A week of Holiday-catching fun will lead to months of mate-hunting frustration.

...30a. And this won't keep you from hoarding Holiday eggs at any chance you get.

31. If something really amazing is offered on the Departures thread, you will be locked.

...31a. If you aren't locked, somebody else will get it two seconds before you do.

...31b. If you decide to abandon an egg to make room, the egg will be taken while you type the password.

Murphy's Laws on Dragon Raising

1. Neglected attempts will always die or hatch without changing.

...1a: If they do turn, they will die before hatching.

2. If you forget to fog a rare egg/hatchling, it will be viewbombed to death.

3. Stubborn dragons only hatch after you've decided to turn in for the night.

...3a. They usually get sick while you're asleep. (If you're really lucky, they'll survive.)

4. Left on their own, all the even-gen dragons of the same generation will have the same gender.

...4a. Especially if they're part of a lineage.

...4b. Especially if replacement mates are difficult to obtain.

...4c. If they're particularly determined, they can do so despite your direct intervention (AKA Influence).

5. All the nice dragons that you want to gender right and forget to influence will always gender wrong.

...5a. Especially if they're nice gifted dragons.

...5b. Then something you don't care about will gender right to rub it in.

Murphy's Laws on Trading and Gifting

1. If you set up a genderswap/colorswap, one or both hatchlings will grow up before the trade is completed.

2. If you see someone gifting an egg you want, you will be overburdened when you try to get it.

...2a. If you are not overburdened, someone else will have gotten it before you.

3. Shortly after paying a ridiculously high price in a trade for a rare egg, you will catch one on your own with little to no effort.

4. When trading while egg locked, someone you can't contact (because their inbox is full or their forum name is different from their scroll name) will offer you the most perfect egg ever - and throw in something you really don't want as "bonus", which means you either have to drop one of your good eggs or can't accept the trade.

5. When you generously gift the first egg from a pairing, you will spend countless months trying to get another one for yourself.

...5a. Especially if it was a rare egg.

6. When you finally manage to get a 'rare' dragon that could be used as trade fodder, the trade value of that dragon will drop

7. If you offer on a trade for something you really, really want, you can expect the other trader to take their 3 days to finally decide - or they let their dragon just grow up on their scroll.

...7a. Of course, they won't accept *your* offer if they finally do decide, no matter how good your offer was.

8. An egg you're trying to give away - via Departure Board, TGT or other means - will sit on your scroll for several hours before being taken; however, the one time you screw up a teleport (adding the wrong egg or setting a one-way transfer instead of a trade) the egg will be grabbed immediately.

...8a. And you'll have no clue about who took it, so no way to get it back.

9. You'll find wonderful trade offers for Holiday IOUs right after you promise said Holiday eggs to someone else.

10. When you want to trade breed variants, no one wants to trade with you.

...10a. There will be a taken trade offer on the most recent page too.

11. When someone trades/offers exactly the dragon you were looking for, said dragon is related to its intended mate.

...11a. If you're lucky, you'll notice it before the trade is completed.

...11b. Or before the happy couple lays its first egg [see Breeding, rule 2].

12. If you arrange a trade for Holiday dragons months in advance, the breeder/catcher will either forget or be inactive when the breeding season comes.

...12a. If you wait until the very last second, you won't be able to get what you want.

13. Whenever you have a trade link for an egg/hatchling, you get offers for everything EXCEPT what you ask for.

14. Your giftee/trading partner will take forever to grab their dragon, leaving your scroll clogged.

...14a. Especially during holiday breeding seasons or releases.

...14b. Especially if the trade involves more than one egg/hatchling.

Murphy's Laws on Actions and BSA

1. If you bite a fresh CB egg to unlock a slot, the egg will either die or turn and stay on your scroll.

2. If you bite an egg you really want to keep, it will either die or be repulsed.

...2a. The messy inbred you want off your scroll will survive a Vampire bite. The egg with a cool Halloween lineage won't.

3. Earthquakes will kill the rarest eggs on your scroll and leave the real targets unaffected.

4. Eggs with a meaningful code will misgender if an Influence is used.

5. Using Fertility for a very important breeding will likely trigger a refusal.

6. The dragons you try to kill will dodge when you need to zombify them

7. The successful kill attempts will turn to dust when you revive them.

8. No matter how obscure your fandom is: all the names you want to use will be taken.

...8a. And if you decide not to use a name because «Naah, it's surely taken!», said name will pop up in the Names you can't believe you got thread shortly after you discard it.

9. If you have two identical eggs on your scroll, one you want to keep and one you don't care for, you will probably bite/kill/abandon the wrong one.

10. Your pinks will always be locked when you need them.

...10a. And if you don't have many pinks already, they will always only be either female or male.

...10b. Especially if you really need to influence things the other gender.

11. If you manage to get an awesome name and put it on a placeholder, the split second you attempt to switch to the intended dragon, someone will snatch the name from you.

Murphy's Laws - Miscellaneous

1. Gemshards and Nebulas will always hatch in the wrong color.

...1a. Or the wrong gender.

...1b. Or both.

2. When you really need a normal dragon, you will get an alt.

3. If you freeze/abandon/give away something with a nice lineage because you'll never be able to build or find a mate for it, you'll find someone willing to breed said mate.

4. If you're on the Thuwed breeding list, you will be locked when they're bred.

...4a. If you're on the Thuwed list for any egg, when you finally get one it'll be your least favorite pairing.

5. If those cb golds gendered right and didn't refuse you've used up your amounted luck for the rest of the year. All your ap halloween/christmas dragons will be messy 34 gens instead of nice second gens or gen1s that got tossed due to soft shell. No exceptions.

6. If two sprites look very pretty together, they're of the same gender.

...6a. Or different types that can't interbreed.

7. You will forget your Seasonal breeding/hunting until the day before the switch.

...7a. Or, even better, the day after.

8. Reserving names for future dragons guarantees that you will never breed or find those dragons.

9. You'll regret checking your dragon's progeny to see what happened to the eggs you dropped.

...9a. If you drop the offspring of a dragon that has a great value for you (first dragon, caught on a special day, named after a loved one...), it will be left to die, killed, bitten, released or given an awful name.

...9b. If you drop an egg from a lineage that took months or even years of hard work, it will be randomly bred to a messy mutt.

OP:

1. If you find the perfect mate for your dragon, you will get a refusal.

1a. The rarity of a dragon is directly proportional to the probability of a refusal.

1b. The time, luck and effort required to catch/breed a dragon are directly proportional to the probability of a refusal.

2. If you accidentally breed a dragon with the wrong mate, you will get an egg.

2a. Especially if the mate is inbred or related to the first dragon.

2b. A dragon will be uninterested in countless CBs/nicely lineaged mates and breed with a messy mutt on the first try.

3. If you don't test breed your holiday pairings, the dragons will refuse once the breeding season is over.

4. Gemshards and Nebulas will always hatch in the wrong color.
