1x1?

I was wondering if anyone was up for an Avatar-based RP. It could be in either a new setting or one similar to The Last Airbender or Legend of Korra. I have a couple of ideas for a plot but they would all involve OCs, not canon characters.

Fancy meeting you here ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Anyway, did you have a preference towards any particular time period? I guess we could start there for the plots.

Aww yeah that sounds sweet!

So these plots usually involve wars of some kind but I'm personally interested in something that almost happened in the series. What are your thoughts on the Avatar being kidnapped as a baby and raised by the wrong side?

Ooh yes, that sounds awesome.

What if the Avatar isn't kidnapped, but maybe adopted? Perhaps his/her/their parents couldn't keep him/her/them?

OH so like they didn't find him/her early on and the biological parents gave them up for adoption.

How would we want the new parents to behave? The Avatar always fights for justice so I'd be interested to see one that didn't.

Maybe their parents are honestly good parents and think that their views are correct, but they aren't at all?? Like with a lot of Fire Nation People it was like that. They supported the nation because they didn't understand that the Fire Nation was attempting genocide.

So it isn't the problem of the parents, it's a problem with the government.

I'd be very interested in what would happen if the Avatar was born in the Fire nation instead during Aang's time. More than that, they were not aware they were the Avatar and just thought they were a normal Fire bender.

A Fire Nation avatar during Aang's time? That would mean the Avatar would be worn Water Tribe (assuming Aang died??) and was adopted. Instead of being taught Water Bending first, they learned Fire Bending. I like it.

Also I'll totally play Zuko if this is the case. He'll be very interesting to play if he just gets banished instead of "sent out to catch the avatar".

So like Aang dies early and during raids of the Water tribe they manage to find a baby Avatar. Since it's just a child, the Fire Nation decides to take the Avatar in and teach it themselves so it can't be used against them in the war.

Oh and what if the Avatar has to learn other elements so they get sent out with guards to go to places under Fire Nation control. But they get seperated from their guards and meet with Zuko instead?

Sweet! So now that we've got our plot, I guess I'll make up a sheet for the new Avatar. You don't need to make one for Zuko unless you want to change some things (which is fine since its an AU)

I think I'm going to make the Avatar male. I wasn't sure about it before but I've got an idea that might work. How old do you think he should be? I mean if we assume Aang woke up earlier he can be a young teenager I guess.

Yeah, probably early teens?

I'm probably going to make an Earth Bender too, some time later. Dunno when.

Okay, I've got a basic outline. I do like the idea of you making an Earth Bender, though! Do you think Zuko went to go live in the Earth Kingdom after his banishment or just out and about?

Name: Rochan (Born Nanuq)

Age: 13

Gender: Male

History: Nanuq was born to the Southern Water Tribe not long after the death of the previous Avatar. Well aware that the Avatar would be reincarnated, it did not take very long for the Fire Nation to raid the Southern Water tribe to find the newborn Avatar. Taken from his birth home, Nanuq was brought to the Fire Nation and given to a family with the idea he would be raised as a Fire Nation citizen and, eventually, help the Fire Nation win the Hundred Year War. Renamed Rochan, he was told nothing of his own origins and instead his background was covered up. The traditional cycle of bending was broken as he was taught Fire Bending first to enforce this false past and second to help reinforce his loyalty to the Fire Nation. It was only recently that he was brought out of the Fire Nation to attempt to learn the other elements, though there is still a question of how he will learn Air Bending.

Appearance: Despite being raised in the Fire Nation, Rochan is notably different. His skin is much darker than that found in the Fire Nation and his hair is dark brown instead of black. Being still quite young, Rochan is fairly short and still looks very much like a child. His blue eyes are probably one of the most noticeable different features as most people from the Fire Nation do not have blue eyes. His hair is held up in a small pony tail (As is the style in the Fire Nation) and his clothes tend to be more red. Looking at him from the outside, he does look more or less like a typical Fire Nation citizens but those who know more about individual tribes would see his features tend to match more with the Southern Water Tribe.

Bending: Rochan is able to Fire Bend, though not to the full extent of other benders. His reasons for being unable to bend properly is unknown but the Fire Nation has decided it might be a better idea to introduce him to other elements to try to master one of them as well.

He'll live in the Earth Kingdom in disguise, most likely. This time without Iroh.

Anyways here's my Earth Bender's sheet.

Name: Makoto Usami

Age: 15

Gender: Female

History: Although she initially lived on Kyoshi Island, the Usami family moved to the mainland of the Earth Kingdom for work. She was forced to drop her training as a Kyoshi Warrior, and is now taught by her disgruntled sister. Makoto's parents work in Ba Sing Sae, while the children tend to the small plot of land they own on the coast. They own several farm animals, but the young Earth Bender isn't happy with her tame life. Rumors of war have made her want to enroll in the army, but being a woman, this is impossible. Makoto's only fix is when she can visit Kyoshi Island and train beyond what little her elder sister knows. To make things worse, of course, Earth Benders must be kept on the down low in fear of being enslaved. The girl is restless at best, and rowdy at worst.

Appearance: Makoto is a rather average girl, at a moderate weight. Like most of the Earth Kingdom, she has dark hair, dark eyes, and olive skin. Her legs and shoulders, however, are large and sturdy, and she stands somewhat taller than girls her age. Her hair is kept in a bun, and is covered by a conical straw hat (which is common for farmers such as her family).

Bending: Makoto is a decent Earth Bender, having learned as a child, but her skill has slowly began to diminish from lack of practice. Her bending is unique, as it is directly influenced by her training as a Kyoshi Warrior and follows the same, air-bending technique.

Alright, nice! Do you want to start off with Rochan getting separated from his escorts so he can run into others?

Sure! Maybe after getting seperated, he wanders to Makoto's farm. Maybe the escorts find Zuko before they find Rochan and trouble happens.

((Great idea!))

In one way or another, he’d always been with someone. When he was training, the Masters watched over him while guards filled the exits to make sure nothing could possibly interrupt them. While he was studying, his private tutors were always by his side. And for the few hours he was at home, his parents made sure he never left their sight. Growing up in such a way, Rochan became very used to having people around. Solitude was not something he was very familiar with since it was not permitted.

So when he found himself separated from his escorts in an area unknown to him, it was fairly natural for the young fire bender to panic.

Heart beating loudly in his chest, he pushed his way past the trees that blocked his path, trying to distance himself from the fighting. The masked bandits or whoever had attacked them outnumbered his escorts so while the bulk of their group set about fighting, two had given chase after him. It was only out of dumb luck that he managed to get away but each step he took away from them, the farther he was forced away from his escort. Perhaps this was their plan all along. He was all on his own and despite the fact he was the Avatar, he flame wasn’t all that hot. What could he do against full-grown men armed to the teeth?

Shielding his eyes from the sun as the trees suddenly leveled out, Rochan hesitated at the edge of the forest. Ahead of him was a large, open field. Open field meant there was no cover. Panicked, the young boy glanced behind him before plunging out into the open field, running as fast as he could. He couldn’t slow down now, they were practically right behind him! Open field or not, he had to keep going and hope his escorts managed to catch up to him. And while he had been taught never to run away from his escorts, being caught by some revolutionary group was even worse. He had been told horror stories about what might happen to them and he would much rather run until his lungs gave out instead of just lay down and wait for them to drag him off somewhere dark where the Fire Nation would never find him.

Although the day started off boring, it certainly took a turn for the interesting. Makoto did what she usually did, which was tend to the herd of Gemsbok Bull atop her Ostritch Horse. It was an easy job, really. The cattle grazed the field while she watched. Nothing to it. And that's what made it so awful. Groaning, the teen slipped her waterskin from her shoulder and took a swig. The water was warm, but it was still water.

And then the trees rustled. That wasn't usually a big deal, but it was best to stay alert. The nearby cattle raised their heads as bushes rustled. Something was running this way, and it was in a hurry. Her eyes, however, rested on the smoke not too far in the distance. Fire Nation. The very thought left a bitter taste in her mouth. She hated them. Hated what they were doing to the world. Even more than that, she hated that they were in spacing Earth Benders. Genocide, that's what it was! Makoto grit her teeth and tightened her grip on the reins.

When someone finally burst into the clearing, the teen dug her heel into her mount's side. The beast took off instantly, letting out an indignant screech as it did so. A flash of red on the stranger's clothing was enough to arouse suspicion in her. Being an experienced herder, Makoto was able to cut in front of the stranger easily. "Stop!" She growled, her brown eyes narrowed. "You better explain yourself, now."

Rochan stumbled to a stop when the harsh sunlight was suddenly blocked out with a loud screech. Wide, blue eyes stared up at the bird-Ostrich horse his brain corrected immediately- and it’s rider and his heart nearly leapt out of his chest. Had this been their plan? Send him running right into a trap? But terror looking up at the girl quickly changed to confusion as she demanded he explain himself. Wait.. what? Explain himself?

“There he is!”

Turning around quickly at the yell, Rochan stiffed as two men emerged from the forest. Their faces were covered by masks of different animals, likely so they couldn’t be hunted down by the Fire Nation afterwards. It was impossible to chase someone if you didn’t know who they were. In this case, the two that had emerged were wearing the mask of badgermole and a fire ferret. Their outfits were largely black and grey but had hints of green to suggest that they were citizens of the Earth Kingdom.

Glancing down at his hands, Rochan hesitated before turning to the girl on the ostrich horse. Fighting wasn’t going to get him out of this. Even if he could fight properly, it was two against one and his bending was subpar. He’d seen them fight his escorts, he would lose that fight before it even began. He needed to be able to run. And that meant getting past the girl on the ostrich horse. “Please, just let me pass,” He begged, trying to inch around the bird. “I don’t have time to explain!"

This was an odd sight. Makoto knew bandits when she saw them, and these two weren't bandits. Rebels, perhaps, but not bandits. Which led her to wonder: why were these rebels after a boy? This kid was definitely Fire Nation, but he was the epitome of innocence. Grinding her teeth once again (it was really an awful habit) she pulled the whip from her belt. "Go on! Get lost!" she snapped to the rebels.

"You're trespassing on Usami land! I can and will contact authorities!" Not that they got far outside Ba Sing Sae. She just needed something to scare them off. Makoto turned, offering a free hand to the young teen. "Get on. We'll discuss whatever's going on at my home." For emphasis, she scooted forward on her steed for Rochan to climb on. Maybe her siblings could make sense of this nonsense.

In the blink of an eye, Rochan had accepted the hand and scrambled onto the back of the bird behind the girl. Training and general distrust towards other nations aside, the girl was much more favorable to the raiders. He’d take any help he could get at this point. As long as she didn’t turn out to be anything more than a simple farmer, hopefully his escort would be able to find him easily enough. Of course, he was still taking a risk here considering his studies told him not to trust anyone not from the Fire Nation but he just wouldn’t lower his guard. His primary goal at this point was just getting away from the ones who had already tried to attack him.

The one wearing the fire ferret mask immediately drew their arm back, only to be stopped by their ally. “No,” The other one said firmly, stopping their ally before they could bend the earth beneath them. Turning back to look at Makoto and Rochan, the person nodded once. “This isn’t over, kid. Don’t think we’ll let you out of the Earth Kingdom so easily.” Pulling their partner back, the two masked individuals slipped back into the forest and quickly faded into the brush.

Staring into the forest after them, Rochan hesitated then sighed. Staying here was probably the best idea. The two seemed hesitant to attack so he had to assume it was because of the girl. They were still likely nearby so trying to leave just meant he would be on the run again. Staying was probably the best option until his escort found him. “Thank you,” He whispered, unsure of how to hold onto the bird. This whole thing felt rather unstable to him. While he had read about the animals of the Earth Kingdom before, he had never seen them before this and certainly never ridden one. It felt as though he’d fall off any second!

Makoto kept a steady face as the rebels spoke, her gaze fierce. She wasn't going to let some natives scare her off. As one raised his fist, she tensed. She'd much rather not bend, but if given the chance...Good. That solved a lot of problems. The teen's posture relaxed only once the two strangers disappeared into the woods.

But there was still the problem of this kid. Makoto turned her head and scowled. She had questions, but not ones she would ask at the moment. Instead, she took Rochan's hands and wrapped them around her waist. Honestly, had he never ridden an animal before? "Now hold on. I'm not going to slow down for you." This time, however she went at a slower pace, similar to that of a trot. What was the rush? The real trouble was gone now, so she had little to worry about.

Soon did the field narrow into a beaten path, and progressively became more sandy. The two neared a moderate sized house, with a massive yard facing the coast. Waves could be heard just faintly, in the distance. Around the house, chickens plucked at the scrubby grass, and a lone cat dozed on the porch. A young man probably in his twenties, sat just outside. He got to his feet the moment he noted a stranger.

"Makoto, who is this?" His eyes narrowed at the child dressed in red. "Why is there a Fire Nation boy on Hotaru?" As Makoto slowed down, her stern expression faded into that of sheepishness.

"Well, uh...I think there was an attack. He was real scared, and some of the rebels went after him."

Her brother looked unmoved by this story. He frowned, the corners of his eyes creasing with suspicion. His sister sighed, taking her straw hat off as she did so.

"He's just a kid, okay Jiro? I couldn't stand idly by and watch him get hurt."

Jiro merely grunted in response. He walked to their steed, standing on his toes to get a better look at Rochan. His displeased, if not agitated expression seemed to mirror Makoto's. It seemed as if the whole family had a healthy dose of skepticism.

"Fine then. But what are rebels doing attacking children? He doesn't look like a Fire Nation soldier to me."

Rochan immediately squeezed his eyes shut and held on, trying his best not to fall off as the creature beneath him bounced along at a much faster pace than he was used to. In the Fire Nation, the animals he rode were almost strictly komodo rhinos. Along with being slower than the beast, it also didn’t have the same trotting way of running that the ostrich horse did. He also usually got to ride in front of someone else as his escorts would die before they let him ride alone. Riding in front meant they didn’t have to worry about him being attacked from behind. So this was new not only for species but for riding experience. Needless to say, he really, really did not enjoy the ride to the house. It was only when they arrived that he finally opened his eyes.

Looking at the stranger, Rochan hesitated but released Makoto’s waist as soon as the older man approached. Judging from their appearances they could very well be family but at the same time, they could just be friends. Did friends work together on the same farms, though? That did seem very unusual. But at least now he had a name for the girl who had helped him get away from the rebels. That could be a little bit helpful, right?

Leaning away from the stranger as he stared at him, Rochan fidgeted nervously on the back of the ostrich horse. It felt like he didn’t have a good escape route here. If he was trying to get away, he had to first figure out how to get down. That really didn’t look like a fun experience since he was much higher off the ground than what he was used to. But, more importantly, he had to deal with these Earth Kingdom people.

“I’m not a soldier,” he replied, his brain immediately drawing back memories of his training. It was always about what to do if he was captured. Like all of his lessons, he committed it to heart and it was easy to remember the basics. But did this really count? He wasn’t captured and these people had no idea who he was. Did he tell them he was the Avatar?

No. Definitely not.

What if they called back the rebels? He couldn’t reveal that. But everything else was fine. Telling most of the truth was better than making up lies. It was easier to recite and was much more natural.

“My whole group was attacked and I got separated from everyone else. I don’t know why they attacked us but I think they chased me to make sure I didn’t get away.” He looked at the older man uncomfortably, his blue eyes glancing between him and Makoto. “I didn’t mean to come here. I was just trying to get away from the attackers." He was young. He was innocent. In this situation, those would be his two best allies. After all, he was no longer just with Makoto. If he wanted to get away, it would have to be from both of them.
