2016 Presidential Election

Recommended Posts

Your service to the country is much appreciated, but the right to vote is not directly relative to it. That right was ratified in 1870.

That is correct, but without a military to defend the country we wouldn't have voting at all, because there wouldn't be a country to vote in.

I expect rioting after Trump'a election, but I also expected rioting if Hillary got elected.

It's the policies they're going to enact during their term in office that'll cause the anarchy.

Pretty much both of these points are extremely valid. Even if Clinton won/wins, Trump won't "accept/concede" defeat, and his supporters probably will riot. Same with Clinton's.

But mainly it runs down to the policies that get enacted that will cause the most impact/damage.

Crime might go up due to hate crimes and such but I would have to wonder, would everyone just start acting hateful/homophobic/Islamophobic/etc all at once or gradually? Because I don't see how well this could be ignored. Anyone have thoughts? I'm genuinely curious.

@Htt71

For just ONE example.. Conversion therapy leads to death.

Fear at this point isn't irrational.

Also, climate change denialism.

That's a good part of what scares me, because we can't afford to go backwards on environmental protections and regulations. Not us, and not the environments we live in.

The right to vote has nothing to do with a standing military.

That! That times infinity, that is what I'm frightened of. We have one earth and we are destroying it, choking it slowly. If this isn't fixed soon we won't exist.

Well hahaha. Y'know, as someone in a gay/same-sex interracial relationship I was concerned and afraid before to go outside because of bigotry when I can finally live with them (as if the homophobic bigotry from my father wasn't bad enough).

Now I'm like 10x more afraid. I'm white but my partner isn't and I'm so disgusted about how much more I have to worry about them now especially, thanks to all the dehumanizing rhetoric I've seen.

what a wonderful country.

The next Supreme Court will be a very conservative one.

Get ready for abortion banned even for incest or rape.

Get ready for decisions against birth control.

Get ready for more decisions against the LGBT communities, more "bathroom laws".

Get ready for more decisions against minorities.

Forget about any raise on minimum wage.

Good luck. We need some.

I still can't believe that we have to choose between crappy Hillary and crappy Trump. What a joke.

I'm a conservative leaning moderate but the problem is neither party understands compromise. They just bicker and nothing changes. Democrats get a lot of social / "religious freedom = freedom from religion" things wrong while unfortunately Republicans cater to women and black/Hispanic hating morons and refuse to have open conversations about logical care with gun control or helping the poor.

What a mess! If the apocalypse doesn't happen I hope both parties bite the dust and newer, better ones arise to replace them.

Isn't going to be near impossible to ban abortion? Same for BC. (At least I hope so, this was my main concern)

And I think that States have a say in what LGBT has rights to, like now, some states allow gay marriage others don't.

And what kind of decisions against minorities do you mean?

Pfffffft. Frankly, I do not care about well-wishers, I care about what will happen in January after the Inauguration.

Really??? Why? It just takes 5 out of 9 judges and the next judge will be a Trump's nominee.

I'm confused as to what more decisions against minorities you're speaking about. If you're referring to any injustices that have been occurring as a result of racism within the police force, that's a judicial issue, not an executive one. It's not like the president makes policy about keeping us minorities in our place.

forget any raise on minimum wage

And it's not like minimum wage needs to be raised. If you want to talk about ruining an economy, constantly raising minimum wage is one way to do it.

Why....to the bans and more difficulties for abortion? Because it would be pretty hard to overturn that, not sure how the process goes for the supreme courts decision but I assume they have to go through others to get the "ok" ....then again...with how things are turning out with who voted for who....

banning that, making bc harder to get (but of course viagra will be easy access), a lot of that might be pretty easy to pass.

Leaving the country sounds like a good idea imo.

Minimum wage should be on par with a living wage. In many places, it's not. People can't stimulate the economy if they can't even afford basic necessities.

Companies that make millions of dollars can afford to pay their workers better. A great deal of economists have predicted it'll work out favorably, too. More money in the hands of working class people who will actually spend it as opposed to billionaires who just let it lounge around unspent.

Of course as with all things, everything with reason. Tiny companies with very few employees should probably get different rules for a while. And you can't raise it so high that the rich ditch out entirely and take all the jobs elsewhere.

Also ??? Why people panicking about birth control? If anything gets banned it would just be abortive stuff. The only real group against birth control in general are Catholics and even most of them don't mind it. The majority of protestants use it. If anything major happens on that front I would be extremely surprised... And it'd probably be about as effective as banning alcohol production.

Living wage doesn't equate to comfortable wage. I can't name a place in the country that has a minimum wage that someone couldn't live off of.

The main problem with raising minimum wage in the first place is that it discourages people from adding new people to the workforce, as they'll have to pay workers more at minimum for low-skill jobs, and it's just more cost effective to hire less people, which is a problem with how competitive the market is for most of these jobs. It also is just an issue for these businesses of every size, because paying your employees more doesn't equal more revenue, it just means losing more money with no turnover. This wouldn't be such a problem if every business was large, but not every one is, and smaller businesses may be forced to lay off workers as a result of the higher base pay.

I make a few dollars above minimum and I still can't afford to live on my own.

This is actually a very valid point. I don't understand climate change denialism... well, rather, I understand why people deny it, I don't understand why we don't just ignore them. All denying climate change does is like the pockets of those benefitting from industries that damage the planet in some way, and I can understand why trump denies it, as a result. Sure, it makes him an idiot and a liar if he knows the truth, but it makes sense from an economic standpoint to want to win people over on an issue such as climate change in order to allow oneself to profit. I say we just ensure we're electing officials that can be trusted to make the correct decisions to congress and hope they follow through, because that's all we can really do in america's "democracy".

Florida is a state where you cannot live on minimum wage (without help) especially in poorer areas.

blink.gif Well, what about the other candidates?

dry.gif Well, yes, it just boils down to the two. Probability would say that they would not get any spotlight.

In the majority of California, you cannot make minimum wage and actually afford to make a living. It's not possible.

I so sick right now. I have two moms and little siblings who are PoC. I'm queer. What do I do? My family is everything to me. America just decided it doesn't care about us. I'm so terrified
