Nobility for a Thief

Recommended Posts

Neiva nodded and went inside her tent to rest. She sighed heavily and sorted through her clothes for something decent to wear. That is, if she was allowed to go tonight. She sighed settling on the green dress and silk gloves that matched. The other gloves where royal blue satin and only hat she had now was a matching color with home made black lace vail and a peacock feather stuck in the brim.

She sighs and looked to her birthday parcel. It was a large rectangular box, tied with twine. She hadn't opened it yet. Curiosity got the best of her and she undid the twine, pulling open the lid and gasped fitting it back over the top. "No, no no... much to fine for this... oh... Lilly and Mary Ann must have slaved over this in their repair time!" She said to her self quickly tying the twine again. The two names women where the seamstress that alter and create every dress her mother and sister have on. Her current dresses where altered from her sister's old discarded gowns, that where made wrong. Now they had made her a magnificent dress of her own..... but she can't wear it. Not out here.

The sun began to fall and a large tent was set up large enough to fit most of the guests. Inside was a large amount of tables, the largest table was in the center back, there sat the merchant guild lord and his wife, the thieves guild leader and her husband, and all the high ups of both guilds. Xel made his way to the thieves guild big table, and to the leader, "It's been too long. You are beautiful as ever I see." He looked at her husband, "Good to see you are still alive, means she likes you." He laughs.

((You can be the thieves guild couple, I'll be the merchant guild leader couple))

The woman smiles. "Ah, indeed it's been too long Xel. Charming as always I see." Theo chuckled. "Indeed! I hope I stick around a bit longer too. But...." he leans in. "That doesn't mean I haven't gotten a few new scars lately...ow! I should keep my mouth shut now..." He said as his wife stamped his foot and glared at him. She turned and smiled at Xel. "How is your sister doing?"

((Green Theo purple is the leader. Can't come up with names now...is Neiva there along with his group or no?))

The Garthfello family walked up to tell merchant table. The Lord of the family spoke to the head of the merchant guild. "We had a good sale these last two days. And what a fine party tonight good sir and Madame.."

((Not yet. They will soon))

Xel laughed, "Solessa is doing well. Those lessons you gave her went a long way."

The merchant lord leaned over, "I'm glad you are enjoying yourself. Your quite bold to hang around our kind, and our friends from the thieves..."

"That's good to hear! She is a strong woman... I'm glad my finest work has paid off." She grinned at him. "She not being to hard you you dear? I know how she could get at times. Her heart acts before her head at times...."

He laughed. "Bold is good for business sir. A man like me can't make a money without having a bit of a gamble on business and breeding deals... it's all in how you play your cards..." he replied back.

Neiva got Solessa. She was ready, and in a cloak and hat that doesn't match the dress she chose. The one in the box did go well with it, but it was far too fine and considered a ball gown. She'll save that for use later if there was a open invitation ball in the next few towns. "You ready Solessa?"

Solessa came out in a clean white and purple dress.

(Being lazy and taking the white/purple dress on the middle left of your picture)

Solessa smiled, "I'm ready. I always like these events, It's good to feel like a lady once and awhile." With a graceful twirl she walked over to Neiva. "Ready"

Xel nodded, "Solessa always does what she thinks is right... for us I mean. But while I question her judgement... I let her settle it out and learn from it."

The merchant lord nodded, "I guess you are correct... unfortunately though your presence and the presence of the king's guards has put many people here on edge... The Thieves guild didnt come out of their hideout just for the king's guard to scare them off.

Neiva smiled. "It is isn't it. This is my first party I've attended. I'm a bit nervous, but I'm ready. Let's go." She said.

"let me tell you something though Xel. You can question her judgment, but sometimes you need to trust it. My husband learned the hard way that a woman's intuition is hardly wrong. Although I admit.... regrettably... and I will not repeat and completely deny I ever said this.... sometimes we are wrong........" "it is the best thing though... you letting her learn for herself.... I found if you keep trying to hold someone back, they'll lash out at you. She is a growing woman though.... She might be less rebellious if she had some other female attention. After all, she is the only woman your camp. It can be a little hard on her."

"Oh, they are only to keep my child safe. They were under strict orders not to arrest anyone unless my daughter cried for help. These people need to get out of that hole in the ground anyway. " he chuckled.

Solessa smiled and took Neiva's hand, and walked her down to the large tent.

Xel nodded, "Words I will take in. Now, since I got all the dirty work done, I'm going to change into my suit. Until next time." He headed out of the back of the tent.

The merchant lord paused, "And where is your little flower now? I thought she would make an appearance tonight."

"She is here, sitting next to my wife. Lovely isn't she?" He beamed proudly. Indeed lady Abigail was talking to a young man next to her and her mother sat with her nose in the air.

"Send your sister over to see me when she arrives!"She called after him.

Neiva was glad for the other woman's company. Her green gloved hand covered her bandages, one of the reasons she chose this particular dress. That and it looked fine but not noble daughter fine.

The hat's black vail covered her face, hiding the bruise on her cheek. The dark dress colors made her even winter if possible. She stayed close to Solessa once they entered the tent. She winced at the noise and the amount of people present. She wasn't expecting this many people. "Where do we go?" She asked Solessa.

Solessa smiled, "There is an assigned table for us on the Thieve's guild side of the tent. If you want, you can meet our leaders too." She led her to their table, the plates and such set up, complimentary water set out.

The merchant lord smirked, "I hope to see her dance in our mini ball. I know she is to be married, but there are many strapping young men who would die to dance with her."

Neiva shook her head and sat beside Rob. "I'm sorry, but I have to decline that. I don't want to draw attention to myself, not with my family here..." She murmurs picking at a strand on her dress. She looks around nervously.

The Lord smirked back. "Indeed she will, and she'll be the bell of the ball to all the younger lads here. Hopefully the young lads all have a chance to dance, she would doesn't like it when her dance card is completely full."

((Lady's got little cards for men to sign off on at balls so each took a turn. It's in a book series i read..))

Solessa took Neiva's hand, "Who cares about your old family. They don't claim you as their own, so you are free to do as you wish. Enjoy the night, be human." She smiled, "You might even find a man that suits your fancy."

The merchant lord nodded, "The sun has barely set! Enjoy the feast and be merry, we have a long night ahead."

Xel came back into the tent from the main entrance. He now wore a black suit and pants. His shirt was a dark red and his jacket was embroidered with a golden design. His hair was groomed and he wore a gold chain around his right shoulder. Many who knew him yelled out and greeted him. Many of the girls of the thieve's guild directed their attention his way. Neiva could hear whispers of them calling Xel the "Beta" of the guild.

Neiva flushed at Solessa's last comment. "Oh... I highly doubt that I would strike their fancy... you Solessa, look more like a fine young lady in that dress then I do here. Please go and enjoy yourself, don't worry about little me." She smiled sweetly and squeezed her hand lightly before letting go. Her time with her family gave her some self esteem issues. "Just being here is enjoyable for me."

The Lord Garthfello dig in to the feast as his daughter locked her sights on Xel and fluttered her eyelashes in his direction.

Neiva herd all the calls and whispers from the ladies and men around her and looked to the entrance of the tent. The sight of Xel actually dress in gentleman clothing flustered her even more then her briefly seeing him shirtless... or perhaps at the same level, it was hard to tell. He certainly cleaned up nicely and looked rather dashing in a suit. She fanned herself, picking at her meal.

Xel was laughing and talking with his friends from the thieves guild, not noticing any of the ladies in the tent at the time. Many of the tough looking thieve's guild girls were actually too shy to approach him. He was shaking hands and patting backs as he made his way to their table.

Solessa sat next to Neiva and smiled, "...Is that so? Well but the look on your face, you found something of interest. Xel is very easy to appraoch... but most girls are scared to, they afraid that he would turn them down, or say he is taken. Here's a secret, he's single, and never turns down a woman to talk or dance."

Neiva folded her fan. "I'm not worried about that. He just looks more proper then I've seen him that's all. And I never said I won't find someone of interest, just I myself wouldn't be of any interest to the men here." She took off her hat and set it on her lap with a sigh.

Abigail was caught up in a thrall of young men talking to her and flirting with her. She giggles and flirts back with them all trying to get to Xel before he reached the table but it was clear she wasn't going to get far.

Solessa smirked, "Come now, you being all cute and flustered. It's okay to admit that your are at least a little attracted to him. It's the way he holds himself. Smart, good looking, but kind and respectful. Modest, for money is a simple object to him. He looks for character in his friends, not benefits."

Xel finished saying hello to friends and sat next to Solessa on the other side of her. "You are looking good as always sis. Neiva... you look nice. You seem better off now it seems. I'm sorry about before... I wasn't in the best of moods." He looked at the food and smiled, "Oh man... this looks great, I might eat more than Rob will!" He alughed and took a bite.

"He does hold himself quite regal like..." She muttered as he walked over and sat down. "Thank you. I am, and I feel much better now then I have been in a while. Now, you are the second in command I take it? I heard talk about being the... Beta.... talk much like a dog pack... I guess that is your..raking system here? Intriguing...... "

Rob chuckled. "I'd like to see you try boss, try not to pop your buttons....." he laughed as he dug in.

Xel sighed, "They call me the "Beta" because I'm treated like a second in command, not that I am. I do my part like everyone else."

Solessa poked at him, "But you do it better than everyone else."

Xel smirked, "A little military education goes a long way huh? But no there is not ranking system. We got the leaders, and then all the members. That's all."

"Oh! Even more interesting. I do have to say, you clean up quite nicely." She said as she as delicately. She ate a bit, watching her sister dance. One lass came and asked Rob to dance and he went. Neiva sighed and stopped eating and just drank the water.

Xel looked at Neiva, "You okay? Do you not like it here? If you want to dance, I know a few guys who would love to meet someone like you. You are very fair after all." He gave a friendly smile. Solessa nudged her.

Neiva narrows her eyes at the woman before smiling at him, although it didn't reach her eyes. "I'm quite fine Xel. I appreciate your concern for me. I would like to dance, yes, but with you... I wish to see if you are as refined in the gentlemanly arts as you are in thievery. Although... considering our significant differences in height... it would be rather difficult and uncomfortable for you. I rather not do that to you, or make a fool of both of us, so I will stay here. Although I'm farley certain a lovely lady behind you three tables away wishes to have a dance. By the way she keeps twisting that silver ring on her right hand under the table she is too nervous and scared to ask you herself. " She said dismissively, the woman's hands where hard to see, it was surprising she spotted such fine detail in a busy place.

Xel blinked but then smiled, "I'll tell you what... I'll promise you at least one dance tonight. I really don't care about height, it's not like I'm dancing with a toddler. As for the other woman, if they show the courage like you to ask for a dance, I will accept. So far your the only one. Well... Actually our guild leader always grabs a dance with me so that will be expected." Solessa laughed,"and then Theo asks for a dance from me. A little tradition we have."

Neiva blinked and started laughing and pointed behind them.

"I do believe my ears where burning, was yours Theo? " The woman said from behind Xel.

"Indeed they were dear, now speaking of tradition..... " He held out his hand to Solessa. "A rather lively jig is up next, why don't we show our stuck up counterparts how we thieves like to dance?"

He grinned at this, he was always considered the jester of thieves for his pranks and witty jokes to liven the moods of the thieves.

"Will you dance with me Xel? You do know I'm only asking to be polite...

Neiva was still snickering behind her fan and trying to hide her pink cheeks.

Solessa laughed and took his hand, "As always dear Theo! Lead on." She got up and followed him. Xel smirked and stood up, "The pleasure is all mine guild leader." He took her arm and escorted her to the dance floor. They both waited for the music to play. Solessa eyed Matt and pointed him to Neiva.
