I was looking for a new 1x1 and I was leaning towards the romance department. I'm good with any kind of romance in terms of the genders of the characters but I was thinking about a mermaid and a human. I was thinking it could either be a mermaid/pirate one or something more modern like a mermaid and a marine biologist or a keeper at a marine rehabilitation hospital (Unless you have other ideas). I do have a preference for being the mermaid character but if someone else really wants to, I can be the human character.

If you have other ideas for romance, I'm open to any, even if they don't involve mermaids.

Hmmm... this sounds fishy to me.... (que drums) I wouldn't mind. My mermaid rp has taken a hiatus for the moment for Seacat is busy. But if someone wants to take it, I can step back (or step forward if no one bites... (another drum))

I freaking love bad puns.

Which story would you be interested in?

Alright, cool! That was actually my idea (a mermaid getting injured then rescued). I'm going to make a simple character sheet but you don't have to.

No it's fine, I'll use one of mine

Username: Aroara

Name: Max Freeman ((wow... a actual normal name!.. this is a first))

Gender: female

Race: human

Age: 22

Occupation: marine rescuer/ recovery specialist

History: her mother wanted a girly girl. Max was always different, fitting in more with the boys then the ladies in the family. Her father was in the marine corps and when he was home taught her some moves, then enrolled her in boot camp. She found love in the ocean after a trip to a aquarium and become a marine biologist.

Personality: Max is short for Maxine, but she hates her name. She dresses, and acts like a guy. She's a major Tom boy and thrill seeker. Best swimmer on the team and always challenging the boys to contests (eating, swimming, you name it, she's challenged them) and hates it when people think she should act like a lady.

Looks: max

((I know it's a guy pick but he looks feminine-ish)

Username: Pudding

Name: Shoal

Gender: Male

Race: Merman

Age: 22

Personality: Shoal is a curious little fish but also cautious. Living in the ocean and hardly being an apex predator means that he is very fidgety and easily startled. He’s very playful once he knows something is not a threat and enjoys collecting shiny objects or playing with trash that has found itself on the bottom of the ocean. He’s easily swayed by food but finds it difficult to trust things that have hurt him.

Appearance: Shoal has the traditional appearance of a merman, being human from his torso up and having a fish tail from his waist down. His nails and teeth are significantly sharper and pointier than humans. He has gills on each side of his neck that allow him to breathe underwater. (The picture given is of a younger Shoal as I couldn’t find a good picture of an older one.)

Max sat with her team on a rescue boat. They were in dark blue wet suits, their tanks beside them, as they jetted to the call that came in. The guys were joking about the new guy who was present, and recently got socked in the eye when he yelled "your a girl?!" At max.

True, Max didn't look like much. Sure she was tall (about 5'6") and thin, but had only a slight figure the wet suits brought out. Her chest was small, pathetically small... more like if a scrawny guy wore a A cup padded bra and a tight shirt. A life of working out with her dad and tight bindings on her chest during high school made it so. Max didn't mind though.

"Alright ladies! Get your gear on! We're getting wet in ten! A large fishing boat found something big in the net and it wasn't supposed to be there.. it's hurt, and we have to get it out and back to base before we loose it. To keep the creature alive, the boat was as to keep the net in the water. I want two of you to go on ship, get reports, other two, with me, your getting wet. Last two, say up top and keep net open. They don't want us cutting their lines if we don't have too."

He had no idea what had happened but he was scared. His heart thumped loudly in his chest as his entire body thrashed about, trying to free himself. Thick ropes bit into his arms and body, forcing his tail into uncomfortable positions. The more he tossed around, the more the ropes dug into his skin. And the more pain it put him in, the more he struggled against it. It was clearly a poor idea but at the moment, he couldn't see any other way around it. Instincts told him to flee but the net prevented him from doing so.

Making several loud, desperate clicking noises, Shoal dug his nails into the netting and bit at the ropes in front of his face. He had never encountered a net before up close, let alone gotten close enough to get caught in it. All he had wanted to do was look at the boat when he suddenly found himself entangled by the ropes. And that was that, he had spent the next several minutes thrashing out, working his way into more and more trouble. Until now. He was exhausted but no less free than when he had started out. His struggling gradually ceased to a few occasionally spasms as he tried to catch his breath, his fingers coiling around the ropes in a weakened attempt to break them.

((Sorry, had trouble with a rper...it made me upset and bummed out))

When they reached the destination, she and the others jumped in the water, while two boarded the ship to find out what happened. She had her mouthpiece in and goggles on as she swam to the tail she saw glittering in the dark water. The four men attempted to untangle the net as she tried to untangle the animal and calm it with some squid chum. A swath bubbles came when she swam to the head of the......... man?

She blinked her green eyes hard and rubbed her goggles as she saw it.. he.. indeed have a fish back end. Seeing how tangled the net was, she made a "calm down" gesture before slowly trying to get his head free so he doesn't strangle himself. A sad, but common thing she saw on some rescues. She moved slowly around it. Getting his head free, but the rest was too hopelessly knotted. It was had to be cut.

Knowing that if she says what it was, she'll get laughed at and the others would abandon mission, she radioed in the net must be cut. She moved behind him and pulled out a knife, cutting above him so if he failed... he wouldn't harm himself even more.

((Aww geez, you alright? RPs sometimes go afoul and its never a good feeling. I'm sorry.))

Shoal's eyes widened when a creature approached the net. It looked like it had extremely large eyes and two separated tails. Unable to actually make out the fact the creature in front of him was human, he squirmed uncomfortably in the net, trying to wiggle free slightly more, he whined as the ropes tightened even further around his body. Was this thing just using his unfortunate circumstance to attack him? Many creatures were opportunistic in the sea, including himself. But he wasn't used to being on the receiving end.

Hissing, he moved his head away as the creature's hands reached towards his head. Closing his eyes, he remained still as the ropes shifted around him, only for the tight feeling on his throat to fade. Opening his eyes again, he found that the creature had caused the net to shift, freeing his head so only his body was stuck. Was it trying to help him? Even when she took out the blade, she didn't try to attack him, only cut the ropes. Staring up at her with wide up eyes, he coiled his fingers around the netting and started to claw at it again, trying to tear his way out once more.

Max freed the mermaid.... merman? from the net. She held on to a portion of the net that held him up while she rehooked her knife in its place. She untangled it carefully, so if his tail was injured, he wouldn't sink. He helped a bit as the net slackend it's hold on him. She flipped the torn net up at a man swimming down to help, and he took the net up to the boat as max swam the creature to the surface, although keeping his body in the water, not knowing if being out of it would affect him like a dolphin being out of water.

She spat out her mask and lifted her goggles. "Can you.. speak? If not, can you understand me?, nod for yes, shake for no.... are you injured?" She asked carefully.

As the netting slowly fell away, Shoal began to realize exactly how much damage he had done to himself. His entire body was covered in bruises but the rope had loosened many of his scales and even bit into his tail at several places, making him bleed. But the fins along his back and his tail fin had fared the worse, being torn in several places while one of his smaller fins had been forced against his body and wouldn't stick upright. The creature that had freed him tossed the net away to another while swimming him up towards the surface. Holding onto her arms, he let himself be dragged upwards, closing his eyes briefly as his head broke the surface.

Blinking in the harsh sunlight, he lowered his head back down until his neck was submerged but he was still clinging to the creature. Watching her, his eyes widened in surprise as she removed what he had thought to be her eyes, only to reveal actual eyes underneath. Staring in confusion at her face as she spoke, he blinked then opened his mouth in surprise. It was a land creature! Rather feebly but trying anyway, he tried to push her away from him so she could swim away. He probably wouldn't actually be able to get far but he didn't trust the land dwellers.

((I'd say have fun but mowing the lawn is kinda boring sounding >.> ))

((It is.))

"Hey..hey.. easy....." she pulled a bit of squid chum, not knowing if he'd take it but trying anyway. "We can help you, just let us help you.. easy now..." the others was in shock as they saw the merman, but the blood in the water and his feeble movements made them dash about. They slipped a sling under him as he was occupied with max, then quickly lifted him into the boat, into a tank like place big enough for a dolphin in the middle of the boat.

Max climbed up and the boat took off. She got out medical supplies to keep the wounds from bleeding talking in a soothing tone, while another behind him used a light sedative to keep him calm. The other members keep their space.

Shoal continued to try to push against the woman, trying to free himself so he could return to the depths. In his experience, land dwellers didn't usually go too far down, hence why his kind was able to stay hidden for so long. But here he was stuck at the surface, unable to grapple with the human well enough to get away.

The water around him suddenly churned as some kind of sheet lifted him up from below. His eyes widened in surprise at the sudden attack from below but before he could even try to crawl off of it, he was dropped into the bottom of a mostly clear box. Taking in startled gasps, he floundered briefly before managing to find his hands. Unable to move his tail at this point, he used his hands instead to lift himself upwards, turning his head to stare at the woman as she approached. His breathing accelerated as he tried to move away from her, dragging his entire body away using his arms.

A sudden, sharp feeling bit into his shoulder and he turned around quickly to stare at the other land dweller that had managed to sneak up behind him. Did it... did it just bite him? Twisting around, he tried to look at his shoulder. It didn't last very long, however, as the arm supporting his upper body suddenly collapsed out from under him. Whining, he tried to pick himself up again but the sedative had taken control at this point, making his vision blur and his head spin.

Max slapped the man when the fish man buckled and almost conked his head on the side of the tank. She carefully moved him so he was more comfortable. There was nothing she can do about the fins, they'll have to heal on their own. She treated the rope burns and cuts on his tail the best she could.

They reached base and rushed him inside, shocking several doctors but at his wounds, treated his fish half and put him in a wide but semi-shallow tank for recovery. The merman had a flexible binding around his tail, and the scales fixed. The others went to deliver their reports, while max stayed with the merman, two cans of sardines beside her. She was only in her wet suit now. No flippers or gear, just the suit. They had done the usual thing on the boat, length, with, weight. Looked at his fingers and teeth, seeing them sharp took note he might be a meat eater, which was the reason for the sardines. He was a male..... and Max knew men liked food. So, she'll calm him with the fish.

Shoal's mind was in shambles by the time the boat stopped moving. As he was lifted out of the tank again, his entire body went limp and he made little effort to resist. It wasn't like he could even if he wanted to. His brain was too muddied and his body felt like it was made of jelly. He could hardly keep his eyes open and as he was moved farther and farther from the wall, he found he couldn't even manage that much.

Heaving in a large breath, Shoal stirred. Slowly, he dragged his arms forward, planting his palms on the ground. They nearly gave out again but despite their shaking, he managed to haul his upper body upright. His head ached like he had rammed into a rock on accident again. Lifting his eyes, he stared at the woman, his breath catching in his throat. Moving slowly, he pushed against the grounds with his arms, trying to ease himself away from her.

When he woke up, she opened the tin and threw the dead fish under hand so it landed a little bit in front of him and floated on the ripples it made with the contact. "Hungry?" She took another sardine out and ate the one she had, nodding. "These are good, you'll like them. We normally get them fresh from fishermen, but those are too big for me to eat."

She tapped her bear feet in the water making more ripples in the water. The tank was shallow so she can walk in it, but it gradually got deeper, like a pool made of glass and with salt instead of choline.

The movement in the water caught his attention instantly and his eyes moved away from the woman to the fish. His nose wiggled slightly and the water shifted around him as his tail began to slowly move, propelling him forward just slightly. In a second, the surface of the water splashed up as his hand darted out and grabbed the fish, dragging it back under in a split second. Pausing only for a moment to sniff the fish, he seemed to shrug before eating the entire fish in one bite. It wasn't his first choice but he was hungry after his encounter with the net so he was willing to eat most things at this point.

Setting his hands back down on the floor of the tank where he seemed to like resting the most, Shoal focused on the feet at the far end of the tank, making small disturbances in the water. His ring finger, possessing a much longer nail than the others on his hands, began slowly tapping the floor of the tank. It was hard, much like land or coral and less like sand. The human didn't seem to be doing much at this point other than tapping the water so he dragged himself across the floor of the tank, his tail floating behind him but not moving very much. Reaching one of the sides, he tapped the glass with his nail several times in different locations, feeling the unusual, transparent solid. The only glass he ever saw in the water was from bottles and they never looked like this. How was it that he could see right through it and yet it stopped the water just like a wall?

When Max saw him exploring his area she got up and got him bigger fish to eat. Instead of throwing them in the water, she waded to waste deep slowly. She then set each fish, all different types of the fish they feed the other meat eaters, and pushed them out across the top. Some sank a little in the water, others floated on the top. Six fish in all where in the water, including the fresher sardines.

She backed up and returned to her spot, watching him carefully, keeping a eye on his tail. She had to win his trust to rehabilitate him, so they can release him back to his... people? Max wondered if he can talk to her, she had so many questions for him.

Shoal continued to move around the sides of the tank, using his nail to feel where the glass was. Sure enough, the entirety of the deep end was surrounded by the clear barrier. Beyond that, it just appeared to be land. Could he actually get back to the ocean from here? It didn't know where he was but even if he went out of the water he was currently in, he didn't know how long he could actually last on land. Going near the surface was dangerous and he didn't make a habit of it. It looked like he was stuck but why? For what purpose did they bring him here?

Feeling another disturbance in the water, he turned back towards the shallow end of the pool. Spying the human waist deep in the water, he quickly retreated into the deeper water, coiling up in the farthest corner he could find until the human retreated back out of the water. Pausing in the corner, he focused on her blurry form above the water before slowly dragging himself forward again, using mostly his arms to move towards the fish. While his tail did occasionally move back and forth slightly, it largely remained stiff behind him. Pushing himself up, his sniffed at the under sides of the floating fish before one of the six caught his eye. Immediately he snatched it out of the water, his nails digging into the skin of the larger fish. Holding the snapper close, he retreated back from the other fish, moving into deeper water. Settling down on the base of the tank, he began to take large bites out of the fish, clearly enjoying himself.

Max wrote on his sheet that he likes snapper fish and got the others out of the water, throwing in one more and leaving him be. She walked to the other tanks, feeding the various animals and playing with some sea lions.

After a while she walked from the catwalk to the lower level and walked along the tankes, staying out of sight if the merman. She slipped closer and watched him with a scientific eye, noting his movements. He'd have to trust her for her to help him.

Shoal quickly dropped the first, half-eaten snapper in favor of grabbing the second with both hands. After making sure it wasn't going to wiggle away from him, he shifted it over to one hand and grabbed the first t Satisfied now that the girl was gone, he moved closer up to the shallows of the tank, allowing his upper body to lay out of the water while his tail remained submerged. Lounging there, he continued to eat both of the fish, finishing them off rather quickly thanks to how hungry he was, leaving nothing behind.

Stretching out his arms over his head, he picked himself up into a sitting position, looking now turning his attention to his tail for the first time since he had woken up. The injuries still looked quite bad and he could feel everything hurting but there was something else on his tail. Reaching out, he scratched at the strange binding. It didn't seem to be harming anything but it was still unusual. But as his nails scratched at it, it was quickly apparent he wouldn't be able to get it off. Wrinkling his nose, he scowled then flipped around and quickly swam back into the deeper waters. Moving his tail to try and swim hurt so it simply hung behind him as he used his hands to propel him around in circles instead. He wasn't hungry anymore thanks to the fish but there wasn't much else to do. The strange clear walls held only water and himself, nothing more. It was stifling.

Rearing back slightly, he swam back towards the shallows then turned around. Ignoring the pain for a few seconds in his tail, he flipped it back and forth and charged at the wall farthest away from the shallows, ramming into it with his shoulder. He didn't know what he was doing but he refused to just sit in the strange pool of water doing nothing. He at least had to try to get out! Moving back to the shallows again, he coiled up his body slightly then charged the wall again, slamming the same shoulder into it. The glass hardly even shuddered at the strike but he was not dissuaded and began swimming back to strike the glass again.

Max ran out now and waved her hands at him. If he did this, he'll break his shoulder! This glass was made to withstand a whale, and was several inches thick. "Stop!" She yelled, although under water it'll be muffled, even more so by the glass. The man needs something to do... She couldn't think of anything. As she thought, her water proof watch caught the light of the sun being let in the large glass sunroof and sent a watery gleam through the glass on to the floor.

Out of the corner of his eye, Shoal noticed the human running towards the tank, waving her arms around. Pausing, he stared at her, his eyes wide with confusion. However, the expression only held for a few moments before he whipped his head back towards the wall and slammed into it again. His shoulder was starting to ache and the fast motions of his tail made it hurt even more but that didn't stop him very much. He wanted out. He didn't care about what would happen after, he just wanted to get out of the tight cage before he suffocated in it.

Pausing for a few moments, his shoulders shook as he tried to breathe. Bringing his opposite hand up, he cradled his shoulder he had repeatedly smashed into the glass. But even though he had stopped hitting it for now, it was clear he wasn't done. His eyes darted back and forth, trying to find some way to get out. Maybe up? He wasn't sure how far the wall extended but maybe he could climb out like how the human had climbed in. Jumping was out of the question, his tail couldn't propel him that high in such shallow water. Shifting his head around, he caught sight of a shimmering disk on the bottom of the tank. Pausing, he stared down at the shimmering gleam for a few seconds, letting his body sink down to the bottom of the tank. Moving his free hand, he slapped his hand down on the glittering circle, only for it to immediately appear on top of his hand. Startled, he moved his other hand away from his shoulder and slapped it down on the first one, only for the circle to immediately appear on top of his hand again. Hissing, he withdrew his first hand and began trying to slap the disk over and over again, smacking his hand against the bottom of the tank.

It took a moment before she noticed it was from her watch. Well, it gets him from banging on the glass. She moved the reflection slowly so he doesn't dart around. He needs a bigger tank, but this is all they had at the moment, unless they place him with the baby dolphin. They didn't do that because they didn't know how he would react to the dolphin. They can add some sand. He seemed to like shinny things, so a mirror on her side of the glass...

She was planning a better tank for him as she moved the watch around.
