I've gotta see about drawing Castell again =P

But as for drawing other characters, I drew Kyzaro again, a year after my last finished work of him (to the month!)

Finally got my skill level to a point where I could draw a griffon the way they were meant to look! And yeah, I couldn't be bothered to finish off the other wing.

And here's a collection of some of the Aisherican dragons I designed over the past few days. No anatomical references were used, and they're presently unnamed with the Aisherican languages being reworked and Latin names are gonna take a while to figure out for some. They're all from the Draco genus though - talk about diversity!

1

Carnivore

Inhabits Southern grasslands

1 is a specialised rushdown hunter, with powerful limbs and jaws coupled with hefty claws and canines. They're typically solitary, though individuals have teamed up with others they know. 3 is a popular target, despite a notable size difference. They have an intense rivalry with 2, with frequent, unfavourable clashes between them - while they have speed and claws on their side, it is not hard for 2 to simply break ribs through brute force. Should any individual find themselves in a losing battle, running cannot be taken lightly either - an incapacited dragon will find themselves a perfectly acceptable prey item.

2

Draco brutum

Carnivore

Inhabits Southern grasslands

2 is known for their impressive stamina. While in an aggressive rivalry with 1, their hunting styles are notably different. Lacking threatening claws to deal damage, their weapon of choice are their large, heavy teeth along with the patience to lie in one place for days on end. Frequenting popular gathering locations for their target prey, they aim to land one bite and then follow their fleeing target at a leisurely pace, until it either bleeds out or can run no more. Both males and females alike have hefty horns and thick scutes, made specifically for combat, as they are solitary and meetings are fraught with risk.

3

Herbivore

Inhabits Southern grasslands

3 is one of the largest dragon species in Aisherica. Commonly targeted by predators, they have developed weighty, defensive plates on their back, thick scales on the rest of their body and wings into moveable spears. They are very hard to kill, with their enemies having to develop larger and more wicked weapons to penetrate defenses. Moving in family units of up to thirty individuals, adults are very defensive over their young and form circles around them at any given opportunity. No slouch in combat, they will use everything at their disposal as a means of defense, including their weight and tusks intended for digging up roots.

4

Carnivore

Inhabits Southern deserts

4 is fairly small, and largely opportunistic feeders. Most of their time is spent gliding under the burning sun, watching the ground with a keen eye. They tend to fly in groups, with no designated leader other than the first one to give the signal of a food item below. They rapidly recognise what species are adapted for desert life and which aren't; should the latter be seen, they will follow it until it eventually succumbs to the environment, or they harass it to death. 4 tends to have a rather repulsive appearance - their skull-like heads and spiky horns quickly gather gore from what they eat, which they do not bother to clean off. There is no clear reason for this.

5

Herbivore

Inhabits Southern grasslands

5 is an unusual specimen. Feeding nearly exclusively on the grains of a very tall grass, their horns, teeth and wings have adjusted as such; incisors lift the short patagium to form a chute, and the fingers form a tight comb with which seeds are raked as the dragon walks. The arm is pressed neatly at or just before the elbow under the lower horn. This horn channels excess seeds and spills them to the ground in parallel lines, whereupon they either germinate or small animals pick them up.

Docile and moving in small herds, they are non-aggressive towards others of their own species and show affection by gently scratching another with their wings.

6

Draco draco

Carnivore

Inhabits Southern grasslands/deserts

6 resembles the standard Western dragon strongest. One of the most intelligent species (equal to that of a sharta or wesharta, rivalling an extinct mankind), they have been around longer than most, forming the basis of the universal language, much of the Southern Hemisphere's culture (including their capital Ramuda), and the tense relationship between the dragons of the Southern and the griffons of the Northern. They are capable of spitting fire like their sharta brethren, but are less suited for sustained flight.

7

Herbivore

Inhabits Southern, Eastern, Western, Northern coastal regions

With a multi-pronged crest and a horselike body, 7 can be mistaken by the uninformed to be a bahurabi. But unlike the equines, 7 doesn't inhabit the Southern grasslands. They thrive globally around the Ilar Ocean's coasts, with subtle variants depending on location. Their splayed, webbed toes allow them to walk most comfortably on sand as they graze on seaweed, and a sensitive muzzle guides them as they forage on drier ground further inland. Their best line of immediate defense is a throat pouch filled with seawater; other than that, they are very flighty.

8

Pescivore

Inhabits Eastern rivers

8 is a large, slow-moving dragon, with a thick, sagging, dull hide allowing it to blend in with its surroundings. Their wings, useless for flight, are used instead for catching swathes of the fish that live in the rivers. 8 is not a picky eater - anything from the smallest guppy to the largest trout and indeed, anything that gets caught with them, all perfectly edible. They lack teeth for the most part, with only small, blunt hooks to provide grip on slippery prey. They also almost completely lack claws, and as a result the dragons are largely defenseless. Most of their time is spent lying around in rivers or thick foliage - not much in their habitat is big enough to pose a serious threat.

9

Insectivore

Inhabits Southern salt flats

9 is perhaps one of the more bizarre dragons out there. Also one of the smallest, their light weight allows them to run around on toes so thin anything more would break them. Leafy wings grant them direct shade while providing a large surface area thick with veins regulating body temperature. Frills on their stiff tail and large head also carry multiple vessels, and may be used as a means of communication. Individuals typically have their own designated little territory (complete with obvious pieced-together shelter from whatever they can find) which they patrol obsessively, and most have neighbours. These neighbours tend to be passive, but if they plan to invade then they will do so; the invaded territory's owner usually finds out fast and the resulting fights look unimpressive. A combination of absurdly long limbs, stiff tails, large wings and aggressive head bobbing result in a confused-looking brawl, but in reality the loser suffers huge consequences. including possibly losing a home. Spines on the hind legs can deal dangerous wounds.

10

Draco splendor

Carnivore

Inhabits Eastern forests

10 is a majestic dragon to behold, sporting a green and white colour scheme with black accents and golden horns. Whips on their wings result in a characteristic sound as they fly - useful for life in packs, as one can command the others to take off. Packs are organised, with a lead male and female guiding the rest.

For all their regality, 10 hides a cruel and brutal side. They hunt in groups, singling out an individual target and surrounding it both on the ground and in the air. With claws and teeth too small to be primary weapons and their whips only able to provide a harsh sting, their horns are used to devastating ends. Prey will be scratched, stabbed, even thrown from one dragon to the next, until sheer shock and blood loss take its life.

11

Pescivore/Insectivore

Inhabits Eastern rivers

11 is a small, humble little dragon. They swim - to use the term loosely - in deep rivers and ponds, walking across the silt, snapping up insects they disturb and occasionally fish. Their back is covered in modified scales resembling fur, creating a shimmering appearance similar to an aquatic rat they share their habitat with. Indeed, these two live directly alongside one another - the dragon lives in the rat's underwater nest. There is no apparent benefit for the rat, but the dragon is there for no reason other than safety.

I ultimately aim for a cap of around thirty before I move onto the Draco (draco) subgenus - or in layman's terms, the wyverns. Brainstorming all these pests is hard work, but at least I have my mum helping out with a few suggestions. She gave me the basic idea for both 5 and 8!

Hey, I'm not the one who says I'm a great artist!

Huge regrets not scanning that lineart before I messed it up. But I guess it looks kind of alright in greyscale. And I rather like the head.

In the meantime, might as well try a different monster. Seregios might be one of my favourites, but Gore would be easier to do, and it's also one of my favourites. Win-win?

biggrin.gif So many critters! I'm not sure what characters you're referring to, but I want to see both of them. xd.png Do Gore first, that way it's done and you can start on Seregios without wanting to do Gore at the same time.

I did some colour work but the lineart's best and I still haven't finished the colour one anyway.

And now here are four linearts of two creatures and two characters. The physical works are small, appreciate them. As per usual, arger images are linked.

I'm only one person and I can't think up everything; variety is the spice of life after all. So I recently asked some others to throw flexible concepts at me. The following are the results, sketched up over the past few days.

Antelope-inspired dragon

user posted image

Suggested by my older sister, finally the Aisherican ecosystem is balanced out a little better with a herbivore. That is, until I added three more predators. Wings are great for poking.

Rocky outcrop dragon

user posted image

Derived from a best friend's sketch, this is a relatively intelligent Southern dragon species, that is both the hunter and the hunted. Ignore the mess of a tail and just look at everything else.

Swan thing

user posted image

Suggested by another friend. This true bird resembles a rotting, plant-covered log or branch half submerged in any body of water it chooses to stand in. Camouflaged to evade both predators and prey, this swan attracts fish with the shade of its membrane-things and impales them.

Shockwave stun-gun dragon concept work

user posted image

Inspired by the storm that flattened Adelaide and surrounds yesterday afternoon. And the power was out so I didn't have anything better to do anyway. This one's still heavily a work in progress, but when the design's finished it should have a bipedal stance, and be a primarily aerial hunter using electrocytes in thumb and index finger pads to supercharge electricity that's rapid-fired to create loud cracks of 'thunder'. Amplified by hand shape, these shockwaves should stun small prey which the dragon then finishes off with a shock right through the head. I've yet to do proper research on the property of sound used as weapons by animals like dolphins, but we'll see how the concept works out~

Oh man I remember you telling me about the suggestions! I'm especially liking the antelope dragon, and the log-mimic bird comes a close second. I love the thought you put behind your creature designs!

Updates yay! Still jealous of how well you can pull off realistic anatomy. xd.png Someday...

I want to see those antelope-dragons in real life... then again, flying herd animals suggests awesome flying predators. xd.png
