I'm wondering. Is it mere coincidence that both of Valkemare's moons are in the same phase all the time (since the release, at least), or are they in synch?

I'm asking because, if the latter is true, the smaller moon would have to be in the larger moon's Lagrangian Point L1. In effect, it would mean that the moons would by tied to each other by gravity. However, this situation is not stable - so what can we expect to happen to Valkemare's moons in the future?

They don't actually:

The Dark Green dragon encyclopedia page says its elemental affinity is "Dark/Life". Does this mean that it has 2 affinities, or does the first refer to the regular dragon and the second to the alt?

No, the breed has a primary and a secondary affinity.

A few other breeds also have secondary elements (Particularly of note are guardians, which are Light/Neutral).

What does the secondary affinity do? Does it give the dragon a chance to produce another kind of avatar, too?

Maybe it defines the dragon itself more as a creature and its abilities, I don't know if it makes any different avatars as results of breeding. At least I never noticed it.

It doesn't affect avatars at all. It's simply there for when the primary element doesn't tell the whole story. e.g. vines are heavily plant-based, which falls under the "Life" element. But having them be creation-aligned would be a huge mismatch with their personalities, given their angry and destructive tendencies, so they're primary Dark element to ensure that aspect is captured.

Is there a specific reason in lore why alt blacks and alt dark greens can't be cave born? I'd think it might have to do with the fact that the eggs we find in the cave are all the eggs abandoned by parent dragons because they're weak or something... So the alternate appearances could be some sort of mutation that wouldn't naturally appear in the wild populations. Maybe? Or it might be just because.

Are their other species like dragons out there?

Can dragons breed with other species besides dragons?

If chickens ended up in the cave, can ducks too?

How do Frills and Old Pinks come into the equation re: the lore? I've read a little bit (at least half of the pages so far) and, although discussed, I don't think it was properly answered. "Discontinued" implies some sort of extinction, at least re: the Frills (it can be easily headcanoned that breeding "too much" of the Old Pinks made pinks look like the new pink we had today, but then comes with the question as why none of the other breeds has been "evolved" if we go into that headcanon, especially since more people are breeding "now" compared to people in 2008, if that means that generally more dragons are roaming around Valkemare).

neglected dragons have pretty small wings

can they actually fly?

Unlikely. There are a lot of things about their physiology that are underdeveloped and barely suited for physical activity.

Given that lore doesn't really address much about the whole dragon-stealing thing period (I've already said it's definitely not a thing that happens to a huge extent; people aren't raising dozens of dragons and breeding them for generations), there's not much motivation to come up with a way to reconcile breed-only alts with lore.

If anything, it's probably a recessive gene, which makes it less common.

Not sure what you mean by "like dragons," but there's a whole thread for discussing other creatures: https://forums.dragcave.net/index.php?showtopic=167509&st=0

Generally, by the definition of a "species" as a unit, no, dragons wouldn't really breed outside their species (and in fact, the breeding groups that already exist are too broad for lore).

Fresh new question (of course).

-Is there (known) scientific names of our dragons. Or are they like the l-numbered plecos and yet to be named. If so, would the scientific names become part of our scrolls?

- Are there any dragons that's assigned to the "element" Balance? (Or am I reading it incorrectly (like I do with many things).

- What other parts of Valkemare are there? In the other parts are there different biomes that we are yet to come across? (If possible, can you also list something about Valkemare that no one would know!/quote]

^^ and this (a pretty copy + paste if you ask me)

Taxonomy doesn't quite fit into the time period, so I don't think there are likely to be scientific names beyond the breed names (to quote Wikipedia, "While some descriptions of taxonomic history attempt to date it to ancient civilisations, a truly scientific attempt to classify organisms did not occur till the eighteenth century. Earlier works were primarily descriptive, and focussed on plants that were useful from an agricultural or medicinal perspective.")

Like many of the things on the encyclopedia, elemental alignment is a semi-arbitrary human assignment based on observation. It's thus possible that such an assignment could happen, but it's a bit strange because it's a bit redundant with simply having no elemental affiliation.

Well there are at least three continents near Galsreim--there's a big continent to the north (you can see a bit of the south-western tip, but it extends north and then east, past the eastern edge of Galsreim). Then there's the Jungle in the southwest and a bit of desert in the south east. These are both separate islands, which are fairly large in their own right but not as large as Galsreim.

Why are there Fleshcrownes in the Volcano, when it says "barren volcanic plains" in the biome descriptions? I don't think there are any trees in barren land.

This is from the encyclopedia:

Being highly adaptable, Fleshcrownes have become fairly common. They are able to thrive just about anywhere, from ashy, volcanic regions, to chilly mountaintops.

Would UV light/radiation fit within the timeframe of DC? Or would it not have been discovered/described yet?

I think it is fairly safe to assume that a biome is not monotonous. That the descriptions are just general, and/or are describing but a small portion. Meaning that there may very well be plenty of trees around. After all, volcanic soil is INCREDIBLY fertile. Look at the Hawaiian islands for example. There is even an active volcano there.
