Reincarnated

"Yeah, actually," James replied, staring back at Derek. His blue eyes blinked carefully, taking in the group gathered around him. His hands were slowly curling into fists and uncurling every few seconds, revealing exactly how uneasy he felt despite the fact he had managed to largely stop shaking. "Look, I'm going to go along with all of this. It's a bit hard to take all in right now but I'm going to go along with it. But only because I want to get back home. I don't want to stay here any longer than I have to. I just want to go home." His hands drifted up to his arms and he wrapped his arm around himself, looking down at the ground. "Let's just get a move on. I don't have any questions, I just want to get started on this stupid quest as fast as possible."

When Robert approached, Mina waved and smiled, careful not to exaggerate said smile with the possibility of cutting her lips open. By this point, she was actually getting used to her new teeth and wondered if this would affect her in the other world once they returned, assuming they returned. Then, she adjusted her gaze to James and nodded in slight agreement with his statement.

"Honestly, James, I think we should spend a few days training first. Get used to what we're in. I mean, you don't go from a moped to a motorcycle and expect to know how to ride it.

Your majesty, may we take quarters for a few nights, use the training grounds for a few days until we become accustomed to what these bodies are capable of? I'm certain you don't expect a lancer to be equally capable of wielding a sword the day it is given to him. Also, a few of us might also agree, but I'm quite hungry and my throat is rather dry."

Some of her friends might have been surprised with how quickly she adjusted to some of the customs, but Mina was a future archaeologist and adored her research, but it didn't equate to her love of exploring. Delving into the ancient kingdoms that were either buried by the world, residing at the bottom of the sea, or sitting out in an open field. Each experience was unique, extravagant, exhilarating and new. This was no different, but rather than these being ruins, it was a whole living world to explore and experience.

Looking at James, she tilted her head to the side and smiled coyly. Hopefully he wouldn't get mad at her for adjusting his straight shot plan, but if they went out there without knowing what to do... she didn't want to think of the repercussions. Always make sure you have the right gear and the know-how to use it, that was one of the lessons one of her old professors always used to preach. Its repetitiveness was annoying, but Mina took it to heart.

"No one has any problems with my suggestion, do they? I mean, if you wanna jump right into this, we can do that as well, I just want to increase our odds of survival, you know?"

(( Sorry for my absence, I was busy with school and internship... my laptop screwed up too... ^^" ))

"...You're a cat-man now, James?" Leon commented quietly with a soft smirk that spread along his crystalline mouth, seemingly unaffected by the fact that this was one of his friends. Of course, he felt uncertain, but something about the man told him that he wasn't lying. Strangely, because of the facial feature, his lips did not seal themselves, so he mentally told himself to keep slightly smirking to avoid the irritating process.

As he heard his name yet again, he turned his gaze toward his right and spotted a new figure join his side. With pale skin, green hairs and green eyes that gazed into his own blue ones, she called him by his old name and confirmed James' guesses. His eyes narrowed for a second as he analyzed the female's face.

"Summer." He slightly mouthed in response to her guess as he tried to match her appearance to a familiar persona from before, an uncertain yet soft smile appearing along his lips. Though it didn't make sense to him back then, he was confident that this couldn't be Mina... or, at least, he thought so, as this lady's nature and Mina's would never match up.

Turning to gaze at the woman on the throne, the man started to note things of interest. From the beginning, he caught her referencing to them as 'Heroes of Tiadoria'. He also noted her name, Veryl, and her position as a King, which made him quizzically raise his eyebrows. Her open nature as she momentarily left the crown that had been on top of her head and then walked closer seemed to hint that she found the group trustworthy and was also a brave individual, which didn't fit quite right with her soft appearance, but could be a normal trait for a ruler or leader. Lastly, he memorized the fact they were in a kingdom, which probably meant that they were in the medieval era of this world. Though these were facts that he would definitely make use of later, barely any of them actually satiated his collection of questions that rapidly kept growing.

Thankfully, his mind and attention turned to one of the other group members, instead. He focused on the stripe-covered woman as she stepped up, slightly bowed and proceeded to ask a few questions. The names that passed by, namely James and Rob, made Leon slightly turn to gaze at his companion for a moment. She was at the café with him and Robert? That meant she was surely one of his other friends, too... Mina?!

The Irid suddenly shifted his gaze back to the queen as she replied to the woman's second question, which he had evidently missed whilst thinking too deeply. He absorbed every detail of her tale, from the fact that Tiadoria was an actual land not too long ago with different kingdoms that was split to the story of how she became a king. What caught his attention, though, was the story of the seven heroes, found dead in front of the castle gates, which had 'used the power of their own souls to tear open a rift into nothing and trap the Evil one and his army'.

Just what kind of world was this?!

Concealing a slight curse by letting his mouth reflexively shut itself anew, Leon noted the most important detail of her story. Apparently, they - or more accurately, their souls - had once been the heroes of this world's past, which had sealed off the Evil and themselves. However, by sheer luck, their spirits had ripped through limbo and had reached another world, where they had been reborn... and, now, they had quite rudely been snatched away from the well-known Earth... and had reappeared on Tiadoria.

The claps that rang out shortly after the queen was done with the tale truly seemed to fit, as Leon was now even more overwhelmed than before. His head could barely wrap itself around the idea of powers that couldn't be explained by rational science - i.e. magic - and now, he was apparently one of seven reincarnated heroes from another world.

Turning to look at the... avian that started to speak a moment afterwards, the Iridesto watched as he bowed and then randomly drove the larger set of wings on his back directly into the heads of James and the stripe girl. Ignoring that moment of confusion, however, he turned toward the King and heard her words. Apparently, the people of these lands knew very few about their actual heroes, and only a rare few individuals could actually give them some accurate details about their past - if, of course, they had lived back then and were not lying out of their rears.

So apparently, they knew nothing about themselves. It was all up to them to piece things together. Plus, now, it seemed that the Evil One was breaking out of limbo and was coming to wreak havoc again. A soft sigh came from Leon's lips as he struggled to keep them from binding together again, slight worry evident in his eyes.

Moments later, the bubble wolf boy from earlier appeared from one of the doors to the side, then took his place next to James and adressed the King with an array of... overly polite words. The small dash of rose that faded onto his cheeks as he turned to look down at his feet made the Irid wonder just what this friend of his was feeling right now... and about whom it was.

Silence settled for a moment as a couple of the group members shared hushes and spoke with the queen, then ceased talking. The one he thought was Mina, however, soon broke the ceasefire by asking a question that was quite appropriate for the current situation - which world was the Evil One exactly going to aim for, what would happen to them and how could they defend Tiadoria if they were as inexperienced as hatchlings seconds after birth?

The King's reply made him slightly shudder. So, for now, their real life bodies would remain in a coma. He'd scare the hell out of his parents, just as the others would scare their own. Boy, this spelled a ton of trouble in the future...

As the group finally ceased speaking officially with the queen and everyone banded together for a moment of group talk, Leon suddenly realized something. He ignored Robert's remark as he asked the others' names, whilst Derek replied to him with a blatant 'I told you so" about his idea that all seven were somehow connected. He also bypassed James' reassuring words, in which he shared his desire to return to his normal life, and Mina's comments about training. Silently, the Irid stepped forward, splitting himself from the group, and gazed at the King.

"Your Majesty," He began, taking a second to bow down but standing back up afterwards. "This realm calls on us to do it... again?" His voice quivered as he swallowed, but blatantly took a step forward and squeezed his fist.

"Permit me to ask you some... questions. First - are we going to sacrifice ourselves again to seal the Evil One and his forces? Second - will we be sealed away with them until, well, we escape or are saved? Third - what are the chances that this second try will manage to keep him properly sealed, especially when our first seal, made by our 'souls' during their prime, is already failing its job? And fourth - how many times is this going to go on, because so far, I can only see this repeating sometime in the future - us being summoned to train, seal the Evil with our lives and then be summoned again to do the same thing over and over?" Nox spoke as confidently as he could, knowing full well the risk that he was imposing right now. However, he stood his ground, prepared for any of the mage's reaction, and awaited the woman's response.

Maybe he looked too deeply into the King's words... maybe she had forgotten to mention something... but, when it came to his friends, he couldn't sit around, wait and see how things played out. He would find out the truth about this cycle... and, if it endangered their peaceful lives on Earth, he would do anything to stop it.

(( I just noticed this detail, actually ninja.gif . Let's see how the King explains herself... or just how much I've missed during my absence. laugh.gif ))

"We do not feel it should come to that," The King said gently. Her tone was soft and clearly meant to pacify the group in front of her. Had the heroes never been reincarnated in general, it would no doubt have been better. She was not certain they were up to the task now that they lived different lives and it felt wrong to disturb them. Some of the initial thoughts of her court had reflected this idea. The heroes had done plenty to serve Tiadoria already. Why pull them back into the fray when they had already done their duty? But in the end, there was nothing else that could be done. All other options had already been attempted and failed. "Our initial plan was much less involved. While our mages could trace the origin of whatever spell you formed to your souls, they had no idea how it was actually accomplished. That information passed into the void along with you. We were hoping that with your aid, we could repair the spell and reinforce it. But since you have been reincarnated, it appears as if that information has been lost. With that option gone, we must instead rely on you purging us of the Evil forever. The past has already proven that our forces do little to stop him. If anyone is able to end him for good, I believe it to be you. We are not looking for a temporary solution to this, as simply sealing him away will not work again, or at least not for long. Even if there was a way to ensure the seal was restored, that too would fade. Keeping this in mind, I must ask you to destroy him entirely and prevent him from returning to this-or any land-ever again."

Nearby, James snapped his mouth shut, having realized it had fallen open at some point during the speech. This was straying more and more from the original RPG style quest and seemed to be getting more and more complicated. And now, even beyond this, they had to kill someone? He'd never picked up any kind of weapon, how was he supposed to kill anybody? He was more likely to accidentally fall on his own weapon. Kitchen knives hardly counted when it came to lifting swords and based on what he was seeing, that was probably as advanced as it was going to get around here. Plus, since arriving, his whole body seem horribly off balance, as if someone was constantly pushing him forward from behind. Squeezing his eyes shut, he raised a hand to his face, pinching the bridge of his nose. He'd already attempted denying everything so at this point and it had gotten him no where. He just had to accept that if he wanted to get home, he would have to follow what the King said. Even if what she was saying sounded more than a bit suicidal.

Turning to Mina, he sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly forward. Why did she always have to be so clever? Even more so his plan wouldn't work now and they were going to have to know how to fight if they were going to kill this great evil or whatever the King had called it. Actually, now that he thought more about it, how were they even supposed to kill this thing? "Hold on, didn't you say that you couldn't do anything to him the last time he showed up? How are seven of us supposed to fight against this massive Evil monster and all his forces when nobody could touch them previously?"

"We do not know," the King admitted, watching as Viziel jerked backwards with a start. "What we do know is that you are correct, we could not fight them before. But you seven are the only recorded people who managed to not only defeat him, but his entire army. You managed where all else failed. If there is anyone who can rid us of him, I believe it to be you seven. I will supply you with anything you need from training to escorts. But for now, I think it would be better if you all rested and absorbed this information. It is a lot to take in and the people are hosting a celebration in your honor today. They would like very much to see the heroes we are told about as children in the flesh and training on the day you were reborn is a rather foolish idea. You need time to adjust."

Clarence suddenly felt very small in the scheme of all of this. Were they expected to die again? Were they the kingdom's last line of defense? He was unsure and rather nervous. He cleared his throat loudly, ears angling backwards. How about we discuss this...later? I mean, none of us really know what we're doing quite yet. Why don't we get used to our new bodies before we start battle plans. And...I kinda want to see everything you guys have done for us. So...Let's go! Let's go have some fun. The world isn't going to end quite yet, we have time to enjoy ourselves. So...Yeah. I'll see you guys outside. Satisfied with what he said, Clarence took one step back. And another. And another. Until he turned around and walked out the front doors. He wasn't ready to face their impending doom. He wanted to have fun.

The crowd outside was...overwhelming at best. The moment he pushed the doors open to the fresh air was he greeted by a massive crowd. The mass of people cleared way for him to step outside, but instantly rushed to greet him. There were too many voices and too much excitement. Momentarily did he debate on going back inside. Hey! wait! Everyone stop talking at once! ...Please? This festival really did seem to be a big deal. Hand reached out, pulling him in different directions. In minutes was he covered in wide necklaces, each adorned with some kind of beads. Flowers were thrown, people were trying to talk to him. Dazed by all the commotion, Clarence was at a lack of words. What was going on?

James was not so eager to just step back away from the issue at hand and he certainly wasn't ready to just forget about everything and go join some kind of celebration. Especially one that the King seemed to be saying was being held in their honor. They hadn't even done anything here, even if these people seemed to think otherwise. Reincarnation or whatever aside, he couldn't remember doing anything. It might as well have been a different person at that point and he didn't like the idea of being hailed as a hero for someone else's actions. That, however, didn't seem to stop the people outside as the roar of many people speaking all at once came quickly rose up from outside the castle as Clarence walked out the door. Looking back quickly, he stared at the entrance that Clarence had walked out of, clearly concerned for his friend. Crowds could be especially dangerous, especially when they were riled up. A few concerts had proven that point to him. "Oh Christ," he whispered under his breath, turning fully away from the King and quickly darting towards the entrance. A few stairs led down to where the crowd was waiting, already dragging Clarence away from the castle and into the courtyard. From his position on the stairs, he could make out Clarence in the middle of all of it. After all, it was pretty easy to make out the tall winged form Clarence now had compared with all of the humans, even if he was being mobbed by other people. "Clarence?" He yelled out questioningly, trying to get his friend's attention across the mass of people between them. Was he alright? James himself was clear apprehensive about approaching the crowd any further, instead keeping as close to the doors as he could. Even if they were intending to be nice, he was much too apprehensive around people to even think of approaching the mob at this point. They would have to calm down a whole lot for him to actually willingly approach them. "Are you alright?"
