I realised a while ago that I never freeze my dragons, and have no intention of ever doing so. I believe that dragons have a right to grow up into adults, and freezing a hatchling leaves them behind their friends. Nobody likes being the butt of 'Short' jokes, and while many believe that eternal youth would be wonderful, imagine if your friends all grew up around you while you were stuck as a child. If you wouldn't like that, why would you inflict such a thing on a defenceless hatchling?

The purpose of this thread is simple. If you believe that freezing dragons denies their rights, and never intend to freeze any dragon, you can take an oath never to freeze a dragon.

How to take the oath:

Just copy and fill out this oath. NOTE: You may have frozen hatchlings on your scroll. This oath simply promises that you will never freeze any more hatchlings.

I, (Insert username), agree Never to Freeze a Hatchling.

Rules:

- All DC Forum and Sub-forum rules apply.

- You must never freeze any hatchling, of any breed. This includes Dino, Chicken, Paper, Cheese, etc.

- No harassing anyone who has a frozen hatchling, hasn't taken the oath, etc.

- Please do not take the oath more than once. If you posted it incorrectly, edit it, and quote the post.

Banners:

We have no banners yet! Feel free to make a banner if you would like. You don't have to take the oath to make a banner.

Well, I would've taken it, but I already have Frozen Hatchies. I might release them in the future though. But I could make a banner for this, if that's okay?

Awww, but eternal youth is awesome! X'D

I freeze hatchlings for RP reasons (I don't really view them as forever kids in most cases, just as the growing babies of other dragons on my scroll) and also for sprite collection (some are darn cute!), but if you don't want to that's your choice, of course. ^^

I don't honestly think that freezing = killing. It says when you freeze a hatchling "You cast a spell on the hatchling that stops any aging", which is basically that, it stops any aging. It's eternal youth, not killing.

Come to think of it, isn't freezing the opposite of killing? If a dragon no longer ages you're granting it a sort of immortality, not to mention the constant vigors of youth.

Huh, now that I think about it... I almost feel cruel for not freezing dragons.

brb, freezing all my dragons now.

Really though, we even have an action that says "Kill". I have to wonder how the two are even similar?

I agree...freezing isn't as bad as killing. Killing is ending a life, freezing is making it eternally youthful. The only way I could see it being cruel is if you would release it, assuming the freezing isn't undone, and that an elder wouldn't take it in, seeing as dragons are highly intelligent creatures in the dragcave world. If the freezing isn't undone and it is left on its own, yeah, it is permanently at a disadvantage and that could kill it.

Otherwise, its just a cute little creature forever, and just because a dragon is small, doesn't mean it can't have the mind of an adult!

Edit;; Yes, like everything else pretty much, it has its downsides. However, I wouldn't particularly equate it to murder.

I've imagined how sad it would be, to watch all your friends grow up and mature, raise families... but you're stuck as a child forever >w>

This is why you freeze a bunch of them, so they have other eternally young friends.

Masha Kinoko supports freezing, and I like having my hatchie sprites. Sorry, but I don't see the point in this.

I really don't think that this thread should be a place to argue the virtues or evils of freezing. It is just like the thread to take an oath to name your dragons. It isn't telling anyone what to do with their own dragons. If you don't agree with the OP, just don't join.

With that said, though, I think that equating freezing with killing in the title of your thread is what causes all the reaction here. I think if you just called it the Oath to Never Freeze a Dragon or something you would not get so much opposition. wink.gif

I fully agree with this. I was not going to comment because I am not against freezing, and I did not want to butt in on a thread that supports not freezing. Everyone can play how they like, within the parameters of the rules, of course. However, it is pretty jarring to have a thread title saying that freezing is the same as killing a dragon.

yup im with many of the people above. i think freezing is just stopping the biological clock of the hatchling and preventing it from matureing. besides what if a dragon wanted to be frozen? i mean we are supposed to be able to communicate with them somehow right? so if it told us it didnt wanna grow up and we froze it we are actually doing something good for it. tongue.gif

I really don't see killing or anything cruel in that nature when freezing hatchlings. Reasons above. Not to mention that I freeze sitting black alts because they're quite rare to hatch and it serves as a trophy that I was able to get one.

Edited for a good point.

I'm totally fine with a thread like this being around, but please do it without telling others that what they're doing is a bad thing. I want frozen hatchlings of every stage for every sprite, and don't like being told that what I'm doing is killing them, thanks.

Then again I also don't think those who kill their dragons are doing something bad either. It's their own dragons, the option's there, they're free to use it on their own stuff if they want to.

So yeah. Change your thread title and opening post slightly and you're good to go, as far as I'm concerned.

Too bad this topic died like this. I believe freezing is cruel, I wonder what'd be worse: freezing a hatchling or having a messy adult sitting on my scroll.

Anyway, I, Kegluneq, agree never to freeze a Hatchling... again >.<

The one and only one hatchie I froze was a mistake. I really feel bad about it, I hope one day I'll be able to undo that '=(
