Flame Born Original Comic

Yoooooo guys!! Recently my friend (LyricaBelachium on deviantart) and I decided to join forces and create a comic related to something that we are both gaga over: Dragons. We've finally finished the prologue and are currently working on the first chapter!

 

Flame Born is about dragons trying to survive conflicts between the humans (who have discovered the beauty and practicality of steam-powered machines), angry mythical creatures and even among themselves! The humans have their own inner conflicts too but WHO CARES ABOUT THAT? This comic will focus mainly on dragons only! Flame Born will contain a rich culture for all creatures involved, a large cast of characters, steampunk doo-dads, friendship, adventure, and relentless problems inflicted on the main characters by us!

 

Ahem. Anyway, here's a little something to show how it looks like!

I really like the designs too (especially Whisp what a sweetie)! The dragons kinda look weird to me overall but I guess I'm used to more realism. Super nice lines.

 

Also: (almost) passing the Bechdel test in the first ten pages and actual honest-to-goodness poc characters?? Honestly I feel like human/mythical creature drama is a bit overdone but hot damn. Will definitely stalk this thread.

These are really nice, I look forward to reading them! I like how Bane's daughter's patterns actually match both of her parent's (leopard from Bane, blue from Bliss). Keep up the great work!

@ Fractional Pi Day: D'aww thank you! When I first designed Whisp I never anticipated the overwhelming reaction to her. <3 btw we decided to draw this comic in a semi-realistic style in favour of EXPRESSIVE CARTOONISH FACE SHENANIGANS. Technically the Bechdel test doesn't apply there because Bliss is a male. ;P ...or maybe it does, since the terms of 'male' and 'female' are extremely fluid for them(except during mating season). I suppose that as long as two dragons, notwithstanding their gender, are talking about a male, the Bechdel Test might still be applied.

My friend and I are more interested in poc main characters actually. and because I'm an asian i will not miss this chance to cram people of asian ethnicity in the comic as much as possible/COUNTRYPRIDEBOOYEAH And I have to admit that it's pretty fun to play around with ideas like Japanese Conquistadors!

And indeed, that trope is more overdone than the steak I made last week. However, we hope we can execute stories in this boring setting in a way that attracts everybody!
