The slime couldn't see how big the creature had been, but it had sounded huge. Such a large creature had scared the slime, and it tried to stay as still as possible, even after it had gone. The stinky tasting air was disgusting, but the slime didn't move. The small creature that it had caught had almost completely dissolved now, and the slime's internal hard things had almost healed. Soon, it would be able to move, but did it want to? The large creature could come back! Eventually, however, the slime forgot about the large creature and decided that it was safe to move.

When the small creature had been absorbed completely and the slime's bones healed, it felt the need to eat something else. It wasn't quite hungry, in the sense that it needed to eat, but it felt the urge to. The rod it was sitting on was organic, so the slime started to absorb it, not smart enough to realize that doing so would cause it to fall. With a snapping sound, the rod that the slime had been sitting on fell, the slime with it. The slime started to panic, fearing more pain, but this time it wasn't so bad. It fell for a shorter amount of time, and the ground it fell onto was smooth, grainy, and inorganic. Taking a few steps forward, the rod it was sitting on forgotten, the slime fell yet again. This time, the fall was so short that the slime barely felt it. Crawling in one direction, the slime hit a wall. The opposite direction was the same. The walls weren't very far apart, but there was some room between them. Trying a third direction, the slime started walking down a slope.

((The slime fell out of the bush and into some kind of burrow.))

@Delta: (unlocked: rose thorns) Rods similar to the ones the slime just fell from were all over inside. Though these were far thinner, numerous, and flexible than the others. Almost delicate. Even further inside, the walls got thinner at one point- then went back to normal as the walls curved downard and branched off in two directions. But marking the split was organic- the same type the slime knew was above and below. Thick. But it wasn't smooth- it was brittle and chipped and shredded. It was too dark at this point to see, but the slime felt it and it felt the same as the last piece of rod before it snapped. But it couldn't have been recent.

@Zeditha: Absorbing the flopping bright-colored thing was easy once the slime tried. Something was funny about it though... the slime didn't know what. Getting to this point, the slime saw something shining with colors the slime could never have imagined just on the other side of a.. clump? of greenish (hehe) red-covered things.

@Avisk: Pain! There were tiny little spiky things, hard and organic, all over the place here. Worse, it was almost like a pit where the thingies were, so every direction except back would do the same thing. Coming from most of the rim of this pit though, were tall, thin organic things. They also had spiky things on them. No matter what direction the slime felt, it had a spike.

Avisk didn't like the pain. Everywhere it moved more pain started. Except backward. Which the slime started to move in a little bit. But it also wanted to know what was causing the pain. Did it hurt something? Was it being eaten maybe? It was poked again and flinched. The tall thiner organic spiky things were going to be a problem. So was the other spiky things poking it. Maybe it could absorb them? That would hurt. Lots.

Avisk stayed still, weighing the outcome of the absorb option. If it did it would finally know at least a little more about the pokey spiky things. But it would be in immense pain. Which it didn't want. But the slime shoved itself onto the spiky things out of recklessness. There was so much pain. Too much to comprehend correctly. Soon, however, the spiky things slowly started to dissolve and be absorbed. Much slower than the slime wanted, but it was working. It still hurt terribly though.

((Thanks for the 'hehe'. I wouldn't have remembered that green means brown... lawl))

Zeditha moved over to the brightly-coloured thing, but then realised that eating seemed like a bad idea. She wondered why, and realised she had already eaten a lot. It was time to stay still for a while, and make something new. She focused on the lingering trace of something she'd had since she woke up, and began putting it to use. She ignored the things around her and began to grow hard things. Soon, a complex structure was forming.

((I decided she's probably eaten enough biomass to completely turn herself into a peregrine falcon by now. However, she's only going to grow wings, a second eye, and feet. Unless something too interesting comes along, or she runs out of biomass. But considering how much she's eaten... yeah, she's not hungry anymore. xd.png))

((Just a note, Delta doesn't have eyes yet.))

The slime picked up a few of the rods. It didn't need more biomass, and the flavor wasn't as interesting as it had been before, but it was enough to hold the slime's interest for a little while. The thinness of the rods made them easy to absorb, and with a bit of the extra biomass the slime felt something. Along its back grew several prickles, just above the flexible, hard rod. The prickles were similar to the prickles that had been on the rods that it had been eating. As this was happening, it also felt its back-rod very slowly lengthening past its limbs.

Deciding that the delicate rods weren't interesting enough anymore, the slime continued on its way. It bumped into the rough organic thing, then took the left path around it. Sure, it was organic, but it was similar to the rods. Dull. As it was walking down the slope, the slime froze. It heard a noise, sort of a scraping noise. It was almost certainly a movement noise, but the slime didn't have enough references to tell how large the moving-thing was. Should it go forward? Noises had hurt it before. It didn't want to get hurt again. However, noises had also led it to food. Eventually, curiosity won and the slime started forward towards the noises.

((Recap on how Delta looks now: Basically, like a jawless, clear-fleshed lizard with a slowly growing lizard tail with a betta tail fin stuck to the end of the tail and rose prickles along its spine.))

The slime's momentum carried it deeper into the liquid, where there were constant movements. The gritty surface felt a bit different now, the orbs were bigger and there seemed to be long objects blocking it whichever way it rolled. However, the long objects seemed edible, so the slime digested some of their surface. Soon, all of the long thing surfaces had been absorbed, so the slime tried to roll higher. It managed to roll a short distance before it fell into a dip. At the bottom of the dip, there was a edible scaly creature. It only stayed still for a moment though, attacking the slime after it had registered its presence. The scaly creature hit the slime with many small pointy things and the slime felt a uncomfortable burning. It quivered and tried to roll away, but the dip was too steep. The slime then tried digesting the creature, but it could only absorb a small surface at a time. Before the slime could digest more, the creature hit it again with the pointy things. This time, the slime was stuck and could not wiggle out. The creature then moved and sent the slime to a different surface in the chamber it was in. This surface was continually squeezing the slime. The surface soon changed again, and this time the surface was covered by a liquid that caused a slight burning sensation. The slime found that the burning liquid also made its efforts to digest the creature harder, as every time it touched a surface it felt the burning. But the slime was persistent in its hunger and it soon managed to digest its way out of the burning surface. It then started absorbing the liquid in the creature's body and digesting the smooth surfaces in it.

((The scaly creature is a moray eel and the long things are corals.))

@Backup77: Thanks for the recap. Yeah I thought most everyone had eyes at this point, so my bad.

@Silverphoenixx: The quote is the out-of-character introduction, that says exactly what happened to you, and how you start, followed by the in-character post letting you know from the slime's point-of-view. In-character, slime-point-of-view posts are always posted with your character's name, instead of yours.

The janitor at the "Ecological Genetics" lab got to work at his usual time at 7pm. But seeing that it had a sign outside saying it was out of business didn't please him much. He took out his key and unlocked the door, went inside, picked up the closest experimental vial (it happened to be sitting on a nearby computer console next to the coffee pot) and left with it- making sure the door was locked as he exited.

His phone rang, and the text let him know his dealer was waiting at the beach for him at a snack bar that served syrupless pancakes and ice cream-less ice cream cones. The text didn't give those details, it was already known because everyone hated them.

It took awhile to get there, but he eventually arrived and hung out behind the snack bar until the meeting took place. He had brought the vial with him, and stood it up on its side beside him, in the sun.

"Dude, what's that jar? You aren't gonna try to pay me with it, are you?"

"You know what this is?"

"Yeah. It's a-" the dealer punted the sample container holding a slime, and it spun through the air, hit the side of a trash can, broke in half, and the half holding the slime fell inside.

@Pyrellium: Warm. The slime activated from its proto stage and came to life, and felt warm. And enclosed. Whatever had it trapped was inorganic and smooth, and there was no way out. Then it felt a strong push from... the other side of the inorganic? Then it was violently shoved from one end of the enclosure to the other back and forth a bunch of times, then it suddenly stopped, and it tasted something salty when the slime became free somehow. It fell a short distance, and tasted something organic, and felt other organic things with strange shapes all around it.

@Avisk: (unlocked: goathead thorns) Small pieces of inorganic pelted the slime on one side, though the pieces weren't launched harshly enough to impact or penetrate the slime's surface. But the slime was definitely experiencing something new- inorganic things coming from up? That didn't make sense.

@Delta: (unlocked: poison ivy poison gland, bleach gland if I didn't already say it) The sounds were high-pitched, and numerous. Whatever the source was, it... it didn't come from ahead. Also it did. The sounds seemed to come from every direction, even from the walls made of ground. Though, besides the sound and the damage to the boring organic from earlier, there weren't any definite signs of anything...

@Zeditha: As the slime began to stretch itself in a way it could grow new parts, it felt its hunger begin to return. How much did the slime have to eat? Maybe that wasn't the point; it was that it got hungry from just about everything, especially growth. But it had to. The slime's second visual orb beginning to be minorly useful, it was able to begin to tell the difference in just how close something was. Also that it was able to see further, and focus on things in more detail. Some things it saw were behind others, and it wouldn't have known that otherwise.

With the ways the sounds seemed to be coming from everywhere, the slime started to get nervous. It was vaguely disturbing, and the slime didn't really know what to do There wasn't much to do but continue on deeper, though, so that's what it did. It paid careful attention to the noises and to the ground, looking for any changes. The ground still sloped downwards at a steady pace, while the noises could have been getting louder. It was a bit hard to tell, with the way that the sounds were bouncing around the tunnel so much. As it walked, the slime's new extension finished growing, long and spiked.

Deiciding she was hungry enough again, Zeditha focused her eyes onto the flopping thing. It seemed big enough to let her finish growing without becoming painfully hungry, so she decided she'd eat it. But she was growing things that would help her move, so she decided to wait until those were finished, and then she could get it more easily. She decided she wouldn't finish them properly, just enough to make it easier to move. In preparation, she squirted some hurt-juice towards it. Hopefully it would stop flopping soon; it was a bit alarming.

OOC: @Backup77: What "spiked" are you using? I wanna get a visual smile.gif

@Zeditha: Zeditha used Splash! But nothing happened!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Delta: Something big (from what the slime could tell) and furry injured the slime from its left side all of a sudden. It didn't do much damage, but it did have hard parts that stuck rather deeply into the slime. And just when it had found the noisy organic things... they were really soft, but just felt like skin. No furriness or anything.

@Zeditha: The liquid the slime spat, if it even hit the floppy thing (the slime figured it must have) didn't seem to affect it negatively. It just kept flopping around, bumping into the slime. Then it wasn't there anymore. Then it hit the slime again. Something fell on the slime- something so light it almost wasn't there. It was white, soft, completely flat, and had four edges- all of them perfectly straight. It was even bigger than the slime was- though only in width.

((Lol, Splash!))

Zeditha decided to absorb the object while it was close by, rather than wait until the moving-things were done. After all, it seemed organic, and if she didn't have to move then why wait until she could? She stretched her slime out, trying to reach the flopping thing.

((There's a row of rose thorns along Delta's spine, continuing along its tail.))

Pain! It ripped through the slime yet again. Even as it found the source of the noise to be helpless, something was attacking it. The slime wished to flee, and it tried, but then the thing attacked again. A wide gash was slashed through the slime's slide, and while the edges melded together quickly it still hurt. The internal hard things of the slime didn't seem to have been damaged, fortunately. Then again! Instead of a slash this time, long spikes left deep puncture wounds in the slime and ripped a piece of slime away. Aside from the spikes, the slime could feel something soft and wet. It couldn't pay much attention, because it felt like it had been crushed.

Suddenly, the slime heard more shrieking. The noises from the small creatures had been continuing throughout the fight (if you could call it that), but this was different. Louder and lower, this shriek seem to convey deep pain. The slime dropped to the ground, and blindly tried to crawl away from the creature before collapsing in a corner. It could hear it crashing around now, slamming into the walls and shaking. The slime barely noticed; this pain was worse, so much worse than before.

The sounds were rougher and weaker now. The creature had stopped thrashing so much. The slime was very glad; it had been afraid of being crushed. Then, at last, everything was still except for the mewling of the small creatures.

((The large creature (a badger or a fox?) attacked the slime, accidentally bit off a chunk of slime, then coughed on it and died.))

@Backup77: I was wondering what kind of hole you thought you were in. This is the answer. Coughing? Heh, gives me an idea.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Delta: The slime was tired, but not exhausted enough to succumb to it. Not yet, but it could let itself if it wanted, it did feel it setting in. The noisy creatures didn't sound like they were moving, and they were right next to the slime. They even started getting quieter for some reason. The bigger creature seemed just as defeated as everything else around happened to be.

@Zeditha: It didn't move. It looked dead or something, the slime wasn't sure. Poking it again did nothing, but starting to shove it made it start madly flopping about, wobbling all over, but ultimately going nowhere. What a stupid creature! But when it flopped its last flop in this session, it made an inorganic thing roll over slightly, and another creature ran out from under it faster than the slime would have thought.

Zeditha tried to catch the fast thing, but realised she was far too slow and instead slimed herself over the flopping thing. She started forming an extra hard thing, that would help her eat things. Her moving-things were almost done, and she could see the many layers of ribbed covering form. She moved the experimentally, and the worked nicely. She automatically knew how to use them: she would go up if she did, so she folded them up and looked at the other moving-things. They were also covered in a layered coating, made of the same stuff, but they were a different shape. Flat, not ribbed. Except for the things on the ends of them: they were harder, and sharp. She knew they would hurt. They were also slightly curved, and she wondered if they were meant to be straight. Dismissing the matter, she turned her attention back to the flopping thing.

((She started growing a beak, slimed over the floppy thing and looked at her nearly-done wings and bird-legs. I'll get rid of the bird-legs later, I don't like them much, but they're useful for now.))

The slime lay still on the ground for a moment. It was so tired from being crushed and almost ripped to shreds. Whenever it thought that it had found good, easy prey something larger attacked it. Maybe it should avoid noises? Perhaps that would be best. It seemed like sounds led to lots of food, but the food was often guarded. Although, both times that noises had led it to pain were non-movement noises. When movement noises had led it to creatures, the creatures had been small and easily eaten. Yet, all moving things made movement-noises, even the large and scary ones. It was all very confusing.

Everything seemed to be fine for now, though. The large creature had stopped attacking, or even moving at all, and the small creatures had never seemed threatening at all. It hurt to move- oh, it hurt so much- but the slime still had three working limbs. The forth had been crushed. Dragging itself a short distance to the small creatures, it started to absorb one. The creature tried to struggle, but it was pathetically weak. It soon stopped moving at all, the the energy that the slime got from the creature helped it to heal. For the second time, the internal hard things pulled themselves together and mended. Some of them were crushed horribly, and they would take longer to heal, but they would heal eventually.

When it was fully healed, the slime didn't know what to do. There was so much food! It consumed a few of the small things, but it just couldn't eat all of them. Then, there was a strange feeling inside of the slime, like it was being hollowed out. What was happening? The slime was worried, but it didn't seem to be hurt. Tubes snaked throughout its entire body, splitting off into smaller tubes at the ends of its limbs. The tubes seemed to be highly concentrated around the hollow area and another thing that had grown along with the tubes. It felt weird. Then movement! The slime could feeling a beating inside of it, contracting and expanding. The hollow things started moving as well, drawing air through a hole in the front of the slime and then forcing it out. The slime liked the beating thing and the hollow things. They made it feel good. Energized.

((The slime grew lungs and a circulatory system.))

((I haven't died... been super super busy))

Avisk attempted to investigate the inorganics coming from up. It had no idea how however. The slime moved around the spiky thorny things it now knew as goat head thorns to past them a little. Some of the inorganicsfromup came again, which the slime still didn't understand. How? But the slime also was experiencing something even newer and a bit more rapid. Bulges started to form at the front area of it, causing the slime to stay still out of confusion mostly. Soon the world opened for Avisk. Colors. New definitions to those spiky things it moved between. It could now tell just how between it was between them. Even scarier for the slime was the realization that one of the bulges could move in a different direction than the other one- at the same time. This new way of sight was going to take some time to get used to. But it also didn't realize because of it that tiny color-changing scales started to form with some thicker thorns between them, and between that was still places where the scales and thorns could move to allowed the slime part of the slime to work properly. All it knew now was that it was hungry, and still searching for the inorganicsfromup that had pelted it before.

OOC: Lots of RL stuff- specifically getting a new house this weekend. So, I plan on having you guys being my housewarming. Send me a PM with anything you want, and I'll get it to you in-game. That goes for lurkers and people reading before playing too! Here are the categories:

Information: Certain combinations of unlocks give you access to a special ability you probably won't figure out on your own, or certain unlocks will enhance abilities you already have. Request "Information" and I'll tell you something. Or you can also get a Spoiler about my ideas behind the things you've been finding. Active players only on that one.

DNA: I'll shove a plant or animal, or at least enough to get a couple unlocks from it, near you where you can find it. Nothing extinct, but I will allow fantasy! Fantasy creatures do have abilities that exist in nature or recently created genetically engineered creatures. Fantasy abilities are more powerful than their natural origins, but they're there. No extinct creatures because that's a story element for a later Arc.

Ability: Want a chemical to help you unlock a breath weapon like fire, ice, acid, smoke, or mist- you can request that. Want to be attacked by something that teaches you concussion or sandstorm breath? That can be requested, too. Want to be resistant to certain elements instead? Requesting fiberglass insulation could do that. Want to have a certain venom gland or have a gland that injects a specific disease into your victims? Can request that.

Bonus: Can request a color pattern or specific color if you want- in ADDITION to your choice of the above three categories.

How to participate: PM me with your request before I post the story update, probably sometime saturday.

(And back to write a post)

He tried to climb out of the hole for some time. He climbed out of it. He saw a large thing that was looking for food. And it saw him. All his instincts told him to fight but he ran off. He kept running until it stopped chasing him. Then he fell down tired. He started making tube that bore through him and connected to his brain. Then a crawly thing stung him. He felt pain and lots of it. So he started absorbing it. He wanted to make that thing it had that stung him. Then the tube forms sacs. He opened his proto mouth and sucked air. This made him feel good and soon it was automated.

OOC: Okay, so I didn't get a place to live. But it doesn't mean you guys don't still get your gifts, you'll get them. Will take me a couple days to collect myself enough to update, but gotta research some of your requests anyway, so it was going to happen either way. Plus then maybe the two people I'm waiting on responses from will have time to put their event requests in.

@Delta: (unlocked: gopher) The only sound the slime heard was the pounding within its own head. Distracting to say the least. Maybe it would be less annoying as the slime got used to it or had something else to listen to. But there wasn't anything else at this place. Concentrating on any sound it could find, there actually was one coming from behind the slime, up the tunnel.

@Avisk: (unlocked: goathead thorns if not already unlocked) It was a spray. Spray? The tiny inorganics came at the slime again, from farther up the inclining green-covered ground than the slime could see. When they came, they were in a straight but thin line. The inorganics hadn't hurt the slime before, but when one hit the slime in one of its new bulges, that hurt! Thick, interesting colors of organic things were in the opposite direction of the incline.

@Zeditha: The air moved, blowing across the slime. The slime instinctively looked away from the moving air, and saw something move. Something that looked funny. Different. Not an unfamiliar color, but it didn't think it would have seen that much of it! It was behind an organic made of many thin bars in random directions ending with things that looked much softer.
