OOC @ Everyone: Sorry for the really long delay. I was trying to get some more creative juices flowing, and then I got them, but spent a couple weeks goofing off.

--------------------------------------------------

@Hammersmith: The flapping organic was a simple thing to catch because apparently its base was stationary, and only its extension was mobile. The slime's behavior and movement caused this to be learned and the organic to be pinned below the slime, though it could feel crunchy though hard other materials below and around the object of its investigation. The flapping thing was found to be soft, though its central core wasn't as such.

@Avisk: (unlocked: crocodilian eye ridges, alligator tail, crocodilian dorsal ridges) Unsure was busy consuming its own weight in food, which didn't really seem like a bad idea. When the huge slime died, they all ate it, and gained a lot of knowledge. But this creature was very simple although what abilities it did have seemed to be rather a higher quality than most.

@Aster: (unlocked: alligator) The slime's curiosity was interrupted as it heard Small make a questioning noise, before it heard it start eating. There was that huge corpse right next to it, maybe another round of consumption would get it the information it was looking for...? With the two complex creatures now disappeared, there wasn't much else to do.

@Tch'ah: (unlocked: molasses gland) The slime had to wait a long time, but eventually its color reverted to transparent, and its mobility returned. Whatever that was, it... well, the slime had a thing inside itself, a bit of a lumpy bump. But it seemed to be part of the slime now, formed within itself. Where had that stuff come from? Wherever it was, it must have something to do with this new internal structure.

Tch'ah

The slime relaxed; now it had a new stick-out part, and a new stick-in part, and although the slime was not sure about the function of its stick-in part, it thought maybe the stick-out part could help it with its food... although maybe not this food, the slime noted with disappointment. It could not seem to separate the dust, but although slime was unsure about consuming inorganic (so unnatural!), it decided that the cushion-y organic should probably be worth the effort. After all, it just formed its new pieces, and that took energy that... well, it wasn't that hungry right now, but even a little bit of hunger indicated a lack of food for growth. The slime shuffled its beak through the stiff fluff that covered some of the organic lump, it paused, then pinched a mouthful and tried to pull it off.

@Tch'ah: (unlocked: German shepherd) The slime found its hardened thing was definitely not helping it consume this huge organic it had found, but its determination mattered for a lot, and it was finally able to get a decent sized chunk off of it. In addition to the colored spatter that had altered it, there seemed to be something else. A different type of organic, maybe?

Its mouthpiece was not very good at ripping flesh, which was necessary to consume big organics like this. The slime remembered a creature-that-was-scary (but it was part of itself since then, so it did not scare the slime anymore) that had pokey, sharp bits that would rip and tear prey, and some new senses were agreeing, yes, grab things-to-eat with pokey things. The slime wanted to make itself morph, frustrated by the long time it had taken to eat just part of the lump, and its will sparked a change in itself. Its mouthpiece started to make sharp spikes on the upper and bottom, making it still partly beaky but also partly toothy. This change would make the slime hungry again, but it still had substantial organic beneath it to eat if there was no time to search out interesting food.

Whatever Aster had seen in the dark wet was gone; or at least the slime couldn't find it. There didn't seem to be any other organics of note in there, either, at least that it could see. It had hoped it might find more creatures like the big dead one in here, but apparently there weren't any around. Maybe it wasn't surprising with all the commotion the slimes had been making.

With no other options open to it Aster headed out of the wet black and back over to the big dead organic. Its regrowing foot hurt once again as it got out of the black, but not as much as before. Looking down, the slime saw that both of its feet were covered in black . . . something. It had to be at least partially inorganic, since the exposed slime in its regrowing foot couldn't absorb it. Aster tried to shake the substance off, mostly unsuccessfully, as it finished moving over to the big dead organic and resumed eating.

It took a long time, and Aster was stuffed, perhaps literally, but it finally learned everything there was to know about this kind of creature. Small seemed to have eaten quite a bit of the organic, too. It could have the rest of it -- for perhaps the first time in its admittedly short life, the slime actively didn't want to eat. It backed away from the corpse of the dead animal, mentally reviewing what it had learned about it.

OOC: I hope I wrote out correctly what you wanted me to have Aster do to get the unlock you mentioned; when I last left off a month or so ago she was in the swamp water and now in Avisk's post she's eating alligator, so it's kind of disjointed. Works for me though, I wanted that unlock.

@Aster: The black... whatever it was had begun growing. Maybe not growing, but spreading. The slime's feet were black now, and half of the remainder of its legs above the wound. But why was it going so slowly? It didn't feel organic, and didn't feel inorganic... it felt.. the slime wasn't sure. But it was... it couldn't describe this feeling to itself, whatever it was. But with the slimes besides Small, who was apparently busy and not paying attention at all, a distraction presented itself. It wasn't all that special; just a sound.

The air moved and little brown (green) flakes on a long but gentle-looking thing on a tall organic moved and came towards the slime. It looked like there was something hidden behind where the organic things were- but now they moved back to block the slime's visibility.

@Tch'ah: There was something wet-looking and plump that came out of the nearby wet, but it was pointing itself towards a different direction. If the slime wasn't looking in that exact direction at the time, it never would have seen it despite its size since it was the same exact color as the ground itself was. Whatever this odd thing was, its overall shape was somehow intimately familiar to the slime.

Avisk finished stuffing itself just in time to look around and see the black stuff growing on Unsure. It rattled a little, wondering if Unsure needed help. Weird green things started coming toward Unsure more too, and slowly to Avisk also. What was going on? Avisk could still see Unsure was hurt, which wasn't helping the situation. But what could it do? The slime moved slightly toward Unsure, trying to see if it could help possibly.

No time like the present to rip its teeth into its present! The slime wiggled, then hopped at the large, moist, plump thing that jiggled when it was landed on. Open the beak tall, then chomp! ...Its mouth was stuck. It got stuck on the thing! The slime panicked a little, thinking that it was not supposed to get stuck on food, although a small part of it protested that this was right that it was supposed to clamp on its food so that it could tear and gulp. But the thing under it was moving still, and the slime was not that strong still, its main body mainly goop covered in fragile film, so where lump moved, slime was swung with it, and its pointies were loosened and shredded across the squishy surface. The slime was released, tumbled onto the mud, and the organic was getting away! The slime unthinkingly lunged for its escapee.

OOC: Brown/green was with Zeditha, not Aster. Aster hasn't assigned any names to colors yet.

ASTER

Aster wasn't really sure what to make of the growing organic-inorganic around its legs and feet. Its primary concern for the moment was to make sure that it wasn't going numb and vulnerable again, with two strange slimes and who knew how many other organics possibly in the vicinity. Aster didn't think that it was, which was good but also a bit worrying in that it didn't know exactly what was happening to it. The other time the slime had come into contact with something that had tasted both organic and inorganic at once, nothing like this had happened.

As the flakes blew into Aster's eyes and mouth, the slime raised its head and briefly caught sight of a blurry something move behind the cover of some tall organics before it moved out of sight. The scaled thing from earlier had done something similar, come to think of it . . . It had seemed to leave earlier, but maybe it was still around somewhere. Aster could try to find it, but it didn't think that would be a good idea until it at least made sure it wasn't going to collapse in the near future. Seeing the shape of Small in the corner of its vision, Aster let out a sharp, clear cry (mountain lion meow plus cassowary call) to try to warn it that possible danger was still around.

Because of the large amount of food it had recently eaten, Aster now knew how to make the super-tough covering on the big dead organic that it had such a hard time getting through before. It began to form that armor on its own body, below its skin but above the sac that was filled with strange energy. The hard inorganic material that made up Aster's bones also seemed to be forming on the armor, causing it to react strangely with the sac, but only on a small scale so far. The dead organic hadn't had any armor on its belly, so Aster decided to leave it off there for now, since growing it in the places it already was was hard enough as it was. Aster also kept the new armor away from its legs, since it didn't want these new modifications to get mixed up in the spreading inorganic.

OOC: Aster is growing crocodile osteoderm armor, but plated with copper, due to an unlock she received earlier. As it grows, the conductivity of the copper plating should react with the electric eel organ she grew earlier. It should be interesting to see what that does, exactly.

OOC @ Avialae: Crap. My bad!

----------------------------------

@Raptor of Dragons: It was late in the afternoon, late enough that the sun had gone down far enough for a sunset over the sea. The small party had finished clearing the garbage piled around the beach, or at least enough to reveal the fire pit that they already knew the location of.

If this was a warzone, the garbage would have been piled up high enough that it could act like sandbags, though the pillows, rotten lettuce, stale cardboard, and... who knows whatever that stuff used to be... wouldn't be as effective.

Surprisingly, no one was even comically irresponsible during this get-together. The garbage had been shifting slightly, and some of it falling off the circular mound. Luckily, it was after the party that the container holding a genetically engineered slime rolled down. High tide was coming, and disassembling the trash heap. The fire hadn't been put out, but it went out on its own. The rocks were still blistering.

The slime's canister rolled more when the sand was smoothed out from the waves, and it dinged against a smoldering firepit stone. The heat was enough that it activated the slime inside, even though technically they aren't supposed to come to life unless they get oxygen. Well, all slimes react differently. Anyway, the cold ocean waves came again, and with the now hot glass and cold water both touching each other, the effect would be obvious.

The canister broke. The slime was free. But then it was pulled by a wave out of its home and into the... somewhere else, and then redeposited back onto the beach somewhere else nearby.

----------------------------------

@Dewdrop: Groggy. Hot. The slime was extremely tired and lethargic, and something felt wrong. An odd sensation for being the first thing it ever felt in its life, only a few seconds long. It was surrounded by a smooth but inorganic cylindrical shape, though feeling this material was painful. There wasn't a choice! Hotter. Even hott... nope. Cold. Very cold! The hot was gone completely, and so was the smooth inorganic. Instead, the slime tasted salty wet all over it, and felt itself be pulled against its will, feeling grainy inorganic in one direction. No matter how much it was forced to skid and slide, it still felt that grainy inorganic. Eventually the pulling stopped, and the wet was only mixed in with the grainy inorganic, but not too well.

@Avisk: The green things were little fluttery foliage pieces from a nearby tall organic, so they weren't anything to worry about, now that the slime looked at them without it stuffing its face with something else's face. Whatever fast-moving thing the other slime saw that it unfortunately failed to specifically convey wasn't visible to the slime. But seeing the other slime's blackness cover almost all of it now, it... was worried. Then again, it usually was when it saw things happen to its comrades.

@Aster: The black stuff, whatever it was, had grown and covered enough of the slime that half of its neck was semi-immobilized, and its entire back, tummy, legs, and wings. The dashing thing from behind the shrubbery didn't seem to make another appearance, at least not yet. That was good, since moving was getting so difficult! The slime felt a lurch from inside itself, something making it want to... un-eat, like the pretty sphere it had before. Where was that, come to think of it?

@Tch'ah: Whatever this creature was, it wasn't getting away! The slime was able to *barely* catch its back end, but it moved again. With its opening, the slime was able to catch it again. Why so difficult? But it was caught, the slime was on top of it, and the organic of the thing was all mooshy.

The grainy feeling bothered it. It wasn't food. It needed food. That much it did know. The grainy feeling was everywhere as it moved. It didn't know where the cold was and would rather avoid it. It kept moving. Grainy feeling, grainy feeling, grainy feeling. Even more grainy feeling. Then it felt something different. It was a rough feeling. It wasn't the normal grainy feeling it was moving on.

What was it? It made the slime curious. There was a new feeling. A sort of sharp prickly feeling. Was it food? The prickly feeling wasn't moving so it wasn't sure if it was food, but the slime seemed to be absorbing the prickly feeling. So it was food.

Now that the slime was on top of it, and firmly attached, it could use its usual method of absorbing the organic into its slime body! Slowly... slowly... slowly... it's alright, the slime could wait. Slowly... slowly... slowly... Patience was little trouble at the present. Gurgle gurgle.

The black was spreading to cover the rest of the slime's body, and moving was starting to become difficult. Was Aster going to go dormant after all? The hole inside the slime's body that served as its stomach suddenly spasmed, as if it was trying to force half-digested food back through its mouth. To un-eat food that had been eaten before . . . what a redundant concept. Aster had once had un-eaten something that wasn't food, though - that pretty round shiny it had had once. The slime didn't think this was the same thing as that, though, as it hadn't felt this forming inside of it like it had with the shiny. And it really hadn't eaten anything inorganic recently, anyway.

When was the last time Aster had seen that shiny, come to think of it? Not for a while. All the way back when it had killed and eaten Angry, Small was holding onto it for some reason . . . and then Aster had lost track of it in the confusion. Small didn't seem to have it now, or the other one that Aster remembered as being even nicer. Aster turned its head towards Small. Did the other slime have any idea where the shinies had gone? Aster wished it could ask Small, but it didn't have words for concepts that complex yet.

Avisk wandered closer to Unsure, being absolute sure none of the black spreading stuff touched it. The last thing Avisk wanted was to be stuck like this. But what was it going to do? How could it help Unsure?? It looked around a bit, using the multiple eyes to get better views. The fly eyes definitely still held a 360 view, which was very useful. Yet. It didn't see a good anything to help Unsure. Could it maybe scrape off the stuff?

------------------------

@Dewdrop: (unlocked starfish skin) The prickly feeling thing occasionally shifted a bit as the waves continued to lap up against everything around the slime. The slime was scooting around on the thing underneath as it floated with the tides, being pushed up on the rough surfaces and being pulled back against them too. The entire movement happened a lot, and at a fairly steady pace. Sometimes the pushing even brought a few other things along with it.

@Aster: Being unable to communicate the questions about the shiny spheres was frustrating for the slime. The lurching still continued, not too frequently but definitely were there. What was going on? The black continued to spread and harden a little, making movement even harder. The other slime seemed to be curious about what was happening. Maybe there was a way the slime could actually help. But how?

@Tch'ah: The thing the slime was attached to still tried to put up a fight. It wiggled sometimes but the slime being on top of it prevent any further movements from happening. It would take a little while for the slime to absorb this creature however with it still struggling.

The slime could feel the tugging sensation as it tried to cling to the prickly feeling. The cold feeling was back before the grainy feeling was back. The food source of the prickly feeling was lost. The slime started to move about again, something about the cold feeling lured the slime in. It didn't know why, but it moved against the grainy feeling that clung to it. It was then a loud thunderous took place. There seemed to be a lot more thunderous noise.

There was nothing for the slime to do except to wait. It didn't know how to make something stop moving, after all, and if the slime stopped to figure out how, the thing beneath it might have gotten away. So the long waiting game was the part it would play. It had the time, after all. Squish squish.

OOC @ Dragonhatchling: Thanks, buddy.

@Raptor: You're deaf, so I can't use that sound. Also, the beach is severely polluted, so nothing is alive around there. Could be dead crab shells though, so I'll give ya that. Hey, we can even say that "thunder" means "got poked by something". Slime's don't know what words are anyway, so there could be really fun confusing stuff.

--------------------------------------------

@Tch'ah: (Unlocked: mouse) "Squish" turned out to be the exactly right idea! Forcibly concentrating its weight into a single point above the creature helped to secure its movements, and it stopped squirming half as much. Luckily, this had a secondary effect- to make the slime's dissolving abilities increase at the same spot, so the creature was killed, and thus absorbed, much easier.

@Dewdrop: The thunder came from lots of directions, but mostly from down. There wasn't grainy there, but thundery. It hurt! Thin, somewhat hard, somewhat soft. But jagged and sharp. But it was organic! The slime wanted food, and it found some. The movement of the wet was sticking the slime to this place, so maybe just absorbing it would make it stop hurting. Hopefully.

Tch'ah << ((I drew and uploaded a picture of my slime!))

The slime... learned a new technique! Lucky it! The slime was satisfied with its meal, but wondered if it could get more like it. It turned to face an eye at the Wet. The Wet seemed to be full of untricky meals, but the slime could easily become a meal of the Humongous Predator that lurked in there. It decided it should have to sit still, and wait to see if something else comes out of the Wet (or if something interesting might be opposite the Wet).

The slime was hurting. The thunder kept coming and eventually got stuck on the tiny slime. It raised itself in hopes the pain would go away. It could feel the wet keeping the slime in this particular location. So the slime had to sit back and wait for the thunder to fully be absorbed.

The black finally finished covering every bit of the slime's surface, rendering the world around it even blacker than the substance that was covering it as Aster lost its vision. By some miracle, the slime remained in a standing position even though it had lost its capacity to move; however, as it could no longer do anything to recover its balance, if something upset it, who knew what would happen.

OOC: Total rework of the forum threw me off. Also, I hate to admit this, but I've just been so lonely lately that its kinda drained all of my creativity and not only did I ignore Azure Wyrm for a bit again, I didn't even draw anything. Baking enough banana bread for half the city (and then giving it to random people all day) helped, though.

---------------------------------------

@Avisk: While anxiously looking around for random things to poke at Unsure with, the slime's own confusion on what to do kept it from actually doing... anything. Luckily, the stuff (after a while, like an hour, if the slime could tell time) finally started to absorb into the slime, or be more... defined, until the slime's natural (heh yeah natural) form started to become visible again. However, since it had taken so long, the slime did learn that there were actually quite a few caches of strange things stuck in small hard inorganic containers nearby.

@Aster: (unlocked: tar gland) Something must have happened to the slime's sense of balance, because when it woke up (if it had even slept; what is it called when you don't pay attention for a long time? Phase-out? Hypnotize yourself?), its face and legs, though not its wings or stomach, were mobile and didn't feel hardened, just slightly sticky. Whatever this was, the slime could feel a strange shape growing inside itself, and it even seemed to finish; but there was still more of this to absorb, if that's what was even going on.

@Tch'ah: There were tiny... well, from here they looked tiny- on the other side where it was looking. But they were whizzing around in the... not on the ground or on an organic, but... not touching anything. They moved pretty quickly, too!

@Dewdrop: (unlocked: crab exoskeleton, crystalline salt) Absorbing the thunder took a bit since the wet kept making the slime bob around and be unable to keep itself attached... if that was the right thought. Luckily, the pain was gone, and the slime was further down and touching the grainy. In addition, it had felt something... organic but much different than the thunder was. It even felt like... there was...

The grainy feeling had something... different to it. It was organic but it felt...what was the word? It disturbed the slime that it was the opposite of wet and cold. It preferred that to whatever it absorbed, but it did feel itself grow. Luckily it didn't feel anymore thunder as it crawled along the grainy. It didn't know where exactly it was going, but maybe with a little bit of crawling, it could find something else. Above all, it wanted to learn more about the wet coldness.

@Dragonmage: *radio static* "There isn't much left. Most of it's gone."

*indistinguishable*

"Yes, sir. Ma'am."

The... who was this? Their uniformed armor was even sufficient to make their gender and body shape so... There wasn't a way to tell who or what they were. They went through the front door of the genetics laboratory, and put on a new bar and sign, for whatever good it would do.

The duffel bag filled with vials caught on a broken piece of piping sticking out of the wall near the door as the... whoever that is... tried to turn to leave into the black van, which they weren't the driver of. A car speeding down the road and screeching its tires muffled the noise of the canister's fall and subsequent end-over-end bounce into a broken-open sewer grate.

------------------------------------------------

@Celiysetherri: The slime felt itself receive a jarring upward jolt, making it come to life. It was like an angry jiggle, but it was fine now. Luckily, this obnoxious (though not painful) feeling was associated with a gift- organic things. It was mooshy, and the slime felt itself sinking into it. Whatever it was, it tasted wonderful. It couldn't describe what it was, exactly, but it tasted like... there were too many flavors here, but all of it was excellent.

@Dewdrop: The slime didn't know how much bigger this organic piece was supposed to be, but it could tell it wasn't the whole thing. It couldn't be, because it was... it tasted awful, but it was organic, and it was bumping into the slime. It didn't really weigh anything, but it was there. It had a stringy bit attached, and the stringy part was pretty long. The slime didn't know how long because when it moved inside the wet in an attempt to feel the stringyness' length, it moved and couldn't be caught. The slime had another way to catch things, though.

The slime sensed a sudden forceful shake that made the world go away. When the world came back, the slime felt mushy organic beneath it. This organic tasted good to the parts of the slime in contact with the organic and the slime spread itself out to absorb as much of the good thing that it tasted as possible. There was more and more of the organic stuff around the slime as it sank into the mush. The mush was wet and not as dense as the slime itself and more and more of the slime was coming into contact with the mush.

It was determined to have it. It needed it to stop moving first of all. It needed the string. It was focused on it. It tried staying still, but that held no luck either as it moved about a little in the wet. It was growing agitated as the strings kept moving away from it. The slime focused, trying something new. While the slime was certainly bigger, not everything could be absorbed easily as the string. The slime had to adapt. It soon felt something grow out of its body. It was becomimg more hungry then usual, but it would be worth it to get what it wanted. The string. The string that it eluded its grasp.
