Zeditha noticed Runner eating the nice things from the bad pool. She was slightly annoyed, but decided that clacking was enough of a reaction for now. After a small time, though, she felt strong enough to stand, and she tried retrieving the other Nice things. She avoided putting her head into the pool, but dipping her feet into it allowed her to reach the Nice things fairly easily. She managed to grab one or two each time and transfer them to her beak. She also gave one to Runner (as if he needed it) and saved two for Small. Then again, looking at Small, Small didn't seem so small... It didn't matter. Even if Small became bigger than her, Zeditha would still call Small Small.

OOC AT EVERYONE GUESS WHAT!?! Talked with one of my artists who works for me in my game company... and she's going to start drawing your characters. Now, because we're going off the descriptions and base material DNA only, it might not be how you envisioned them. But we'll try.

OOC Okay, so, we've now gotten to the point of the story where we go from PG13 to R (Sorry Canadians, Aussies, and Brits- it's the American movie rating system. Basically it isn't kiddy stuff anymore.)

Until Dragon is back from vacation, just PM me and I'll tell you what that liquid actually is. But I won't post it openly until she gives me a thumbs-up.

@Dragonhatchling, Avialae, and Zeditha: Now that the three of you can understand certain sounds as having specific meanings and such, you're gonna have to work together to invent Slime Language. Other slimes that unlock this later will have to start from scratch; there might be different languages for slimes just as there are for humans.

I'm gonna have to keep the Big File updated really well from now on!

----------------------------------------------------------------

@Zeditha: (unlocked: LANGUAGE CAPACITY, cat box obsession, tiger pattern, blue eyes) Unlike other liquids the slime had encountered thus far... this liquid wasn't... it shouldn't have been liquid? It was fully organic, and THICK. It was still liquid, and slippery, but sticky and acrid too. There were hard things inside that the slime was able to retrieve; but with difficulty. Most of the pieces were... it almost seemed like they were dissolved by the liquid itself. Not exactly broken, but... they should have been bigger. But something told the slime that all of the mass from the creatures that made the liquid was present. The other slimes seemed interested in the nearly-not-existing Angry. One of them... which both of them were about the same size now... had!!! It ripped off Angry's wings and made them part of itself? How...? What did the slime do to miss out on watching the others change so much?

@Avisk: The slime had gorged itself on the organic, and filled itself up to the point it almost made itself burst... but slimes don't burst from overconsumption; they grow instead. So that's what happened. The slime didn't even make itself all that hungry from its growth because of it! But more importantly, the slime saw the other slime it had now caught up in size come over, stand on Angry, then rip its wing off and wiggle around on the ground and hold a broken part of it in its mouth, then... attach... Angry's... up-limb... to... itself. And it worked. The slime was in shock from watching this, unable to do anything but stare. Then it did it again. Angry had no up-limbs anymore, but the other slime... did?!? The skeletal slime continued its movements away from the three slimes. This... was probably in its best interest, obviously.

@Aster: (unlocked: LANGUAGE CAPACITY, vulture wings, Indian scorpion, clam intestines) PAIN! The slime had successfully stolen Angry's own limbs and attached them to itself properly, but it wasn't expecting the pain the enemy slime had felt to transfer to itself. But it did! More information transferred into it as well... The Angry slime had started off alone, just like the slime did. It consumed what it found, and had found another slime that had started off around the same moment and location that it had. It had consumed it entirely; it was no more. That's where the ability the slime got to form its ability to steal shiny things and put them inside itself for ease of carrying. But the original slime with that ability only had the instinct to find and take such things, but not the aggression. Aster didn't know where that came from. There had actually been, according to the stolen memories of Angry... a different... !?! There was another hoarde of organic and inorganic things that the hot light didn't get to, on the opposite side of a... flat black thing on the ground with yellow lines in the middle of it. It wasn't actually... well, it was kind of far, from the point the slime was at now, but it knew exactly where it was!

@Serket: (unlocked: red atlas moth) The organic... was soft. There wasn't much of.. no, it was there. But it was small. The slime was able to effortlessly get the thing inside itself... somehow. It wasn't as small as the slime initially felt it was. But it was a lot smaller than the other thing it absorbed, so that was different. It was able to feel other organic things, and taste one of them (bitter and horrible) that was below the organic it had just consumed. The other organic was dry, and hard. It barely tasted like it was even organic; but it did have a taste so it must be?

@Selim: (unlocked: carbonation gland) The little bubbles that had been forming inside the slime stopped happening. But something in the bottom middle of the slime's interior started... growing? The slime felt it, and contracted itself around the new thing.. and the little bubbles felt like they existed again. This new squishy thing was able to make more of it? But a lot more than just the tiny amount of bubbles that had been in the slime. It was like it was concentrated or something; bearing almost as much ability to make bubbles as the slime had incidentally done on accident somehow! Hunger began to bother the slime; the hard points it was making took up a lot of mass and the slime felt the effects of that.

@Serket: (unlocked: red atlas moth) The organic... was soft. There wasn't much of... no, it was there.

There... soft, small. A strange layered texture. If the slime encountered this same combination of things again it would know it had found the same thing. It worked the same as the spiky-rubbery it had first encountered, and then the pointy-soft. And now the slime tasted bitter and dry-hard that didn't even taste remotely similar to the other things. But it had taste, which meant organic, yes? Yes. Despite its ugly taste, the slime enveloped the bitter first, rolling over it and consuming it quickly so as to less taste the bitterness. With that done, the slime felt a strong sense of fullness. It had consumed quite a bit of organic, tasted several new things since it had first started moving on its own. As the slime slowly started tasting and absorbing the dry-hard (disgusting, disgusting, was it really even organic?) it let physical reflex take care of the absorbing and turned its concentration towards itself.

The slime had discovered several organics, sharp and soft and bitter and textured. Most prominently, it recalled the thing it had just discovered. While the slime had no understanding of how it knew, it accepted that it now knew things about the small-soft organic, same as it knew things about the rest of the organic material it had found. The fullness inside the slime was good, and now it would be useful. So far the slime only had a vague sense of feeling and of taste to guide it to organic matter. Making use of the new instincts it had gathered, the slime concentrated on itself.

The slime pulled the inner fullness outwards even as it absorbed the harsh-tasting organic beneath it. It pulled slowly, but soon enough the slime felt its outside self change. Softness appeared on the edge of itself, poking upwards and billowing out into broad soft pieces. The inner fullness rapidly decreased, but the slime still had some left. After creating the soft extensions, the slime turned the pull to the rest of itself. This took much less time to do, and in the end the slime's fullness was almost depleted, but it now had a coating on its outside, on the side that faced upwards. Textured with small, sharp poking pieces, like the first thing it had found.

Now the slime was hungry again, and quickly finished absorbing the matter beneath it. But now - now the slime had a better concept of the things around it. Faint new senses began to mingle with taste and touch. The slime could now be aware of things it was not yet touching. Extremely faint pulses, like a tremor against the slime's self but far away. And a sense like taste, but also from far away, coming towards the slime and being felt at a distance. Suddenly the slime could sense organic from a distance, thought how long that distance was, the slime didn't know. It would take some time for the slime to get used to being able to sense things without directly feeling them. And the new sharpness on its back - that was interesting. The slime didn't know what purpose the sharpness on itself would serve, but for the moment that didn't matter.

The slime was once again hungry. Somewhere nearby there was more organic - the slime could far-taste it. Twisting its soft extensions a little bit, the slime figured out where the far-taste was coming from and started sliding across the ground in that direction.

Aster let out a sudden hiss of displeasure at the sensation of immense pain that began to flood its new up-limbs as they fully integrated into its body, and the following discomfort as the slime began to channel its existing resources into healing them. Aster had already known that it would have to heal the up-limbs belonging to the other slime once it had acquired them, since they were broken, but it hadn't expected that they would hurt so much before the slime did that. Though, Aster realized in a sudden flash of insight, perhaps it shouldn't be so surprised, since broken things generally did hurt. Well, even with the pain, taking the up-limbs from Angry was still worth it. Small had grown so much that it was nearly Aster's size now, and if Aster had grown the wings on its own, the "small" slime might very well be bigger than it now. Aster didn't much mind if the other slime got close to or even its same size, but it did not want to be the smallest.

The knowledge Aster had gained from grafting Angry's wings onto itself was something else that the slime had not expected, and unlike the pain, the slime didn't think it could have reasonably seen this coming. It was a bit intrigued by the . . . two . . other slimes' experiences (so Angry had eaten another slime as well? Interesting to know, and it made Aster feel a little better about hurting it quite so badly, but exactly how many other slimes were roaming around out there?) but by far the most interesting thing it had learned from Angry was the location of the second pile. Oh, how Aster would dearly love to get ahold of all that organic. Well, should it go there? Even if it was kind of far, between the three of them the slimes seemed to have pretty much finished eating everything here, Angry couldn't do anything to stop them now, and Aster wasn't terribly hungry at the moment. It could probably make it to the new pile before it got too hungry again. Probably.

Still, it wouldn't hurt to top off one last time to make sure, right? Aster looked down at the terrible pool beneath it. The relatively-less-disgusting chunks of whatever were all gone now, so that just left the worse liquid as a source of food, which the slime didn't particularly want to eat, but that seemed to be all there was now, and Aster didn't want to get halfway there and suddenly become consumed with hunger. Lowering its head into the pool once again, Aster reluctantly scooped the terrible-smelling liquid into its mouth and swallowed it, shuddering as it did so. A few mouthfuls of that was all the slime could take, and then it decided that, even if there was more information about what whatever this had once consisted of that it hadn't learned, it was done.

Aster walked a good distance away (it hadn't fully healed the up-limbs yet, so it was still limited to traveling on the ground, which was a bit disappointing, but what could you do) from the disgusting pool towards the direction of the second pile, wanting to put as much distance between it and the pool as possible, and then stopped and looked back at the other two slimes. It knew from their lack of urgency that they didn't know about the pile. If they did, they'd probably want to go to it just as badly as Aster did. Before just recently, leaving them behind for something like this wouldn't really have bothered the slime, although it probably wouldn't have tried to stop them if they'd decided to follow, because until now Aster had defined their relationship first by coincidence and then by what the other two slimes could do for it. But only a very short time ago, something had made Aster realize the concept of mutuality in relationships. That if someone did something to help you, you should do something to help them. It felt strange, but also right. It made Aster feel strangely good inside in a way that had nothing to do with food. If helping those who helped you was good, then Aster should probably let the other slimes know about the second pile, and show them where it was. They'd helped the slime a lot, after all. Yes. Aster wanted to do that. With its head still facing the other two slimes but the rest of its body facing away, Aster chirped loudly - a sound it knew to be nonthreatening and would not indicate danger, but nevertheless still indicate that there was something that it wanted to tell the other two. Aster chirped again, making the sound quicker, trying to add a sense of urgency. Come, the slime wanted to say. Follow me.

((hahahahhahahahaha a long time ago, Zeditha decided to choose some sounds that were nice and make that mean her. So she's technically had a name since about page 10... Despite not knowing what a name is or being able to recognise it.

Also, I see we had a 'RaidCall' thing? I fairly recently got TeamSpeak; is RaidCall similar? Can't we use TeamSpeak instead, because I actually have that?))

Zeditha realised that being in the liquid had taken enough time that she'd been oblivious to the changes. She was slightly annoyed at that, but decided it didn't matter for now.

She looked around, and her gaze fell on the two Shinies. She didn't really like carrying them in her paws - it hindered her running - and decided to eat them instead. That would be easier for now.

Then she decided to get rid of this liquid. It was messing up her feathers. But when she tried to eat it as normal, with her beak, it didn't work. An instinct told her to 'lick' herself; it required a strange thing in her mouth. Figuring it was worth a try, she grew it, and poked it out of her beak, swiping it across her sticky, acrid fur and feathers. The action prompted another kind of liquid to ooze across the new lick-thing, unsticking the sticky liquid and making it easier to lick off.

(producing saliva, which contains enzymes designed to do just that. Also, she's going to was herself like a rabbit, because I know exactly how that works but I haven't seen a cat wash itself.)

After figuring out how to lick, two different patterns came to mind. Zeditha picked one at random, and placed both front paws on the ground, licking her side repeatedly. She moved slowly from the side of her front leg to as far across her back as she could reach (about halfway), and all the way down to the top of her back leg. She then repeated the process on the other side, reesulting in a clean back and sides. However, her ears, tail, head and legs were still nasty. The next thing to clean was her legs. She picked up one of the front ones at random and began licking it, from the top where it joined her body right down to the paw. She turned the leg over slowly, washing all round it, and finished by licking the paw itself clean. She then swapped legs, repeating the process for all four of them. The back ones required her to twist awkwardly and bob her head, but she managed it. Now just her head and tail needed washing. She decided to start on her ears: she grabbed one in her front paws, brought it down over one eye and licked it from there. She couldn't reach all of it, but the top half was clean. That mattered most. The otherear was similarly difficult. Now she had her head and tail to clean. She decided her head would have to wait, as she simply couldn't reach it. However, her tail curled easily over to her and she washed it without any difficulty.

Now feeling a lot better (and definitely cleaner) Zeditha made her way over to the others. Her ears felt a little funny - the liquid was pooling in an important place and making everything sound strange. She wondered if the others could help make her head clean. She meowed inquisitively, then pawed at her head and showed them the black on it before licking it off. Then she meowed again, motioning at the slimes and then her head. Maybe one of them would be nice enough to help?

((Also, without noticing it, her eyes became blue. I doubt it would really make a difference, but she now has blue eyes.

I assume that the nice, hard things from the pool are actually pieces of human or similar? If not... what are they?

Out of pure curiosity, which slime was Angry? I want to look at its file on the character sheet.))

Aster began to be a little irritated at Big as it realized that the other slime didn't seem to be paying any attention to its call. Instead it was laying right next to the disgusting pool and . . . licking itself? Aster was confused by the other slime's actions at first, but then it realized that the terribleness, which had clung faintly to Big ever since it had fallen into the pool, was slowly disappearing from it. Well, if Big wanted to get rid of the terribleness it had gotten covered in, Aster could understand that. It must not be nice to get so much of that horribleness in your mouth, though. There had to be a better way of doing that. Yes . . . now that Aster had grown its own soft fluffies, it realized that the creature that they had originally belonged to had its own way of keeping them clean, although it was a little different than the method Big was using. There was some sort of organ or something that the creature had had, that produced a strange runny substance that it covered its soft fluffies with, that could somehow stop them from getting wet in the first place! Even better, now that it checked, it seemed that Aster had already grown one of these organs back when it had grown its own soft fuzzies, without even realizing it!

Well. That was much better than just licking off whatever foreign substance got on your soft fuzzies in the first place, Aster decided, since you wouldn't have to taste it if you accidentally got into something nasty. The only problem was that for it to be of any use, the runny substance had to be applied to the soft fuzzies first and Aster hadn't done that yet. The slime supposed that it could do so now, but it was too impatient to get to the new pile of organic that it knew was out there. It didn't want to wait any longer than it absolutely had to to get there, especially since Aster didn't think there would be anything else incredibly disgusting to get on its soft fuzzies between here and it.

Big finally seemed to be finished licking itself now and was slowly approaching both Aster and Small, who was standing a little ways away from the first slime. It was making a high-pitched noise, which something deep within Aster told it to fear but rationally could tell wasn't intended to be threatening. Indeed, on some level it almost sounded . . . gentle? Endearing? Odd concepts. It could tell that Big was trying to communicate something, but wasn't sure what. The larger slime didn't seem to want to follow Aster, so it couldn't have realized what it was trying to say itself . . . The first slime thought for a moment, and then realized that, although the smell was gone on the rest of its body, its head was still steeped strongly in the horribleness. Well, it would be difficult to lick your own head . . . but Aster didn't want to get that horrible stuff in its mouth again. Once was more than enough. But if it was good to help those who helped you . . . maybe there was a way to help Big get that stuff off of it without having to taste it. Let's see . . . sometimes when the creature that had grown the soft fuzzies got covered in too much water, even though it didn't get wet, sometimes the droplets would get stuck in spaces where it was hard to dislodge them, and that would get annoying. And what did the creature do then? It shook itself! Yes, if Big shook its soft fuzzies, hopefully the disgusting liquid would come off without Aster having to taste it. A win for everyone. Aster spread its half-healed wings and shook its whole body as vigorously as possible, hoping Big got the message. Aster then made the accelerated chirp again, and turned its head towards Big and then towards the point in the faraway distance where the slime knew the second pile was. The slime repeated these last motions several times, hoping the other slimes would at least realize something was going on with it even if they didn't know exactly what. Here it was trying to help them, and it was being ignored. It was annoying.

OOC: Aster grew, or realized it grew in the past, a preen oil gland. This is not a slime gland, but a "normal" gland that most birds have that allows them to cover their feathers in oil to keep them from getting wet. Once Aster uses it, it will work the same way for her.

((Yeah, peregrines aren't exactly waterfowl. I don't think they have much use for a preen oil gland...))

Runner seemed not to want to lick Zeditha. Understandable - before she got used to the taste, it had been horrible. However, Runner was shaking. Perhaps that was a suggestion - shaking could get the nasty off? It was worth a try. Carefully moving her head away from the others, Zeditha began to shake her head as hard as she could. Then she realised something... Her paws could easily reach the spot. Idiot! She sat back on her hind legs, shook her front ones a bit (idk why rabbits do this before washing, it looks like punching the air) and licked them a little before wiping them over her head. Finally, all the nasty was gone.

Then she realised that Runner was trying to indicate something. Something far away... She could just about make out that something was there, but she had no idea what. She walked a little bit towards it and then sat down, ready to move off as soon as Runmer and Small were coming too.

((Was it Runner or Small who got Angry's wings? I can't remember.

Also, both Avisk and Aster begin with A and contain S, so I can't keep them straight... The only way I can tell is that Runner calls Small Small and Small calls Runner Unsure, so by looking at Aster's RP I can tell that Aster is Runner and Avisk must be Small... But I can never remember and that is one hell of a long-winded way to do it.))

OOC @ Everyone: Reading, then trying to figure out what to write. Yeah we can use Teamspeak instead; I have that installed too. Plus, the RaidCall stopped letting my microphone work, so I stopped using it. If we can do teamspeak free (because I don't have money to allot to anything) then we can do that.

OOC: I thought only waterfowl had preen oil glands at first too, but apparently the only birds that don't are flightless species along with pigeons, woodpeckers, amazon parrots, mesites and frogmouths (although its effects do appear to be stronger in waterfowl, at least). So Zeditha should be able to grow one if she wants to.

If you're having trouble telling Avisk and Aster apart, remember that they have different letters in their names as well - Avisk has a V and a K and Aster has a T and an R. If you're having trouble telling which is which try to remember which out of those sets belong to who and look for them.

((I look for avatars personally to who is who... and it probably also helps (sorry Avialae) that I can't remember Aster's name half the time (Virrin can attest to this) and take to calling Aster Unsure an awful lot more than I should xd.png

As for raidcall/teamspeak, I have neither. I can get one though. I think....

And I'm back from vacation but until Monday I'll be busy with back to back to back to back graduation parties I was invited to.... all 8 of them in two days. Wonderful.))

Avisk watched Unsure remove and place wings on itself. That was gruesome and slightly bothering to see how Angry reacted to it. That wasn't at all what the slime would have liked to see. Or do. Except, now that Avisk thought about it, that was a rather efficient way to get new things. All very efficient in fact except for the immense amount of hissing and pain Avisk was reading on Unsure. The wings were broken, that was obvious, and apparently that meant the pain traveled to Unsure too. That made sense. It had grafted the wings. It was only natural it got the pain.

But something else peaked the slime's interest. Unsure seemed preoccupied not only by pain but by something else. What else? What was preoccupying Unsure? Yet, then suddenly Unsure started moving off. Kind had caught its attention then Avisk realized for a moment after Unsure made a similar chirrup to what Avisk had heard before. It seemed Unsure wanted to be followed, but Kind was busy trying to get off the bad liquid that was now starting to somewhat dry on Avisk too. Watching both of them interact, the slime noticed Unsure shake. It knew shaking was helpful, having shaken a lot to make rattling noises. Maybe that would work too for the liquid? Worth a shot.

Avisk shook itself as hard as possible, rattling and spraying some of the liquid droplets. It felt drier now and caught sound of the chirrup again from Unsure. Follow. Wait, is that what that meant? Avisk was pretty sure that's what that meant. With the head movement and everything it certainly seemed the chirrup was a Follow. But why? What was Unsure trying to take them to?

Avisk looked back to Angry, who now was a little further along in shuffling away. Maybe best to leave the slime then since it now lost its wings and was in an awful amount of pain itself. It could barely move. Maybe Avisk could take something from it? Avisk could kill it... that wouldn't take too long anymore and with the larger size at hand now that Angry was disfigured, it wouldn't be terribly hard to rip off chunks and eat or carry along for the others. Something told the slime that eating this slime wasn't necessarily the best idea, yet, Angry was missing the tail and wings now. The main reasons it had to live. And it was going to die in pain anyways. Wouldn't it? It hadn't died yet, so maybe not.

Fire spurted from Avisk for a moment, the pincher clacking a second before going still. It could try at least. Put Angry out of its misery. The slime looked to Unsure and Kind, shaking a second with pulsing fire before turning to Angry. That was supposed to mean Hold on according to Avisk, and it wasn't sure if the others got the message. Regardless, with its new size now, if the other two left, Avisk bet that it could move faster to catch up to them now unless they flew away. Maybe one more time? A little kinder? The slime couldn't make vocals as far as it knew, so it rattled and color changed to a more pleasant one for a moment. Please hold on. Hopefully that got through.

The slime turned back to Angry, who hadn't hardly gotten further now. Yeah, it definitely would be better off dead. Avisk moved up to Angry, stepping on the lingering part of the body and causing the slime to retaliate somewhat. It couldn't quite do too much with the state it was in. The pincher on the back of Avisk clacked one, as the slime placed a back foot on the same spot and turned itself around. Fire spurted off in a large ark, the pincher latching on to a part of the body. Avisk hoped that would be enough to do Angry in. Quickly, and hopefully as painlessly as possible. This felt slightly wrong, but also slightly right. Angry was probably going to die anyways out here, in pain and alone. It was the least Avisk could do to help. And afterword, if Angry did die, the slime would work on eating the corpse or sharing it with the other two slimes before they all left.

Hopefully the other two would wait. Hopefully they understood that message.

@Soulking: Below is what I last said to you, and your most recent in-game post. As you see, I didn't respond to what you posted because it didn't fit.

@Teethy: The jagged organic hurt the slime with its many sharp parts, but it didn't hurt all THAT much. It was at least organic, so it could be absorbed. Whatever it was, it tasted... well, it didn't have much taste to it, actually. It flaked and broke, the small pieces becoming that much easier to absorb, so that was nice that it was able to fragment it more for easier consumption. It was fully absorbed, within the slime, but not yet dissolved.

(From Soulking) He relaxed on the inorganic, finding it didn't hurt much if he stayed still. But soon he turned ravenous and started to move trying to find something to eat. He needed to eat now and then suddenly bumped into something. It felt like a rough thing? It was certainly organic and suddenly clamped down on him. He decided to start absorbing it.

--------------------------------

OOC @ Zeditha: Here's a

. Also, gotta PM me to ask what the pool was. Dragonhatchling and Avialae know what it is too, so I guess you could ask them. I don't think TJ would think it's appropriate for a public post, though. So it has to be PM.

There is something I'm working on that'll make it really easy to tell who is who, and a couple other details. Just gonna take a bit. Heh smile.gif Aww, I'll be nice.

Easiest way to tell whether Aster is Avialae's or Dragonhatchling's:

Avisk and Avialae both have very similar names, so that's why it is NOT her slime. The names aren't similar smile.gif

@Dragonhatchling: It's like looking into a mirror, isn't it? Maybe everyone should take a peek.

I know you don't have horns, and not sure on the exact length/shape of your thorns, but we'll fix it. Just tell me over Facebook what we did wrong. Also, you can make rat noises.

@Avialae: "Human mimic" means your slime can make the same sounds you can, but I wouldn't try any words or anything until you actually hear a human speak.

@Dragonhatchling: Graduation! Congratulations! So, next stage- do you get to start doing the fun stuff? Also, I kinda imagine Avisk is carrying Angry's spine like this.

--------------------------------

@Serket: (unlocked: caffeine gland, coffee plant, white mold) The slime easily got to the source of the organic it detected- a swarm of small creatures that made lots of the stuff that the slime's new body part seemed almost too well designed to detect. The small things were all around, by what the slime's soft things told it- and it felt one of them as the slime had moved slightly closer. They weren't big at all, but they were at least organic. And fast! There was a... something... on the ground around where they were moving (the slime felt them bumping into and rubbing against it a couple times) but whatever it was, it wasn't something the slime understood. It could find it, but not understand it. Something else that was organic was... no, that wasn't organic. It was just wet. Little points of wet started touching the slime, and rolling off of it. They were cold!

@Aster: (unlocked: human mimic, denim) The gland the slime chose to exercise felt like it was working, though it wasn't fast. Maybe this was something that was supposed to stay active all the time to get full effect? Maybe it just needed a moment to kick in? Its up-limb pain was mostly gone now, though it still ached a little. The limbs were.. mostly fixed. But they still only were able to move like Angry had used them, not like the slime had initially intended when it wanted to grow its own by itself. The big slime had come, finally, and sat there looking bored. Or impatient? Well, it looked like it was waiting for something. Maybe it was waiting for the slime to do things? The small slime hadn't looked like it wanted to wait for the big one either, but it went and... burned what was left of Angry, and its head came off and fell on the ground. The small slime even had Angry's burned and broken spine in its mouth, and was happily walking towards Aster.

@Zeditha: (unlocked: cancer) This was strange knowledge. Something about it told the slime that it was a very bad thing, but the slime's usage of it... might not be. The new ability let the slime grow things at a rapid rate, but it wouldn't be normal. It would... *confusion*

Usually, growths had lots of traits, but specific forms. This new thing could ignore that. It could make a new growth contain only specific information, and nothing else. It wouldn't necessarily be useful to the slime for its own use... but... maybe something else. Maybe it wasn't meant to be used on itself at all. But it had finished cleaning itself, and it looked like the other slimes did, too. Except the slime's hearing holes weren't empty. Was the slime still slime inside the holes? There seemed to be some sort of noise from up, but the slime couldn't hear it properly. It... sounded kind of like the big thing that dropped the red from before, but it was going a different direction than the middle-sized slime seemed to want to go. It must want to go that way for a reason...

@Avisk: (unlocked:

, cobra hiss, cobra scales) One of the hard parts from Angry detached with the flame, which it was barely attached anyway. The slime had actually seen things like this before, but failed to recognize the importance or organic nature of them. It was the hard interior of a head. Without other parts attached, it wouldn't be able to move. If it didn't prove Angry as being dead, it would be without a doubt now. But the slime now noticed, with it held within its mouth, that the long hard bendy back part wasn't just made out of the same stuff the slime's was. It was made out of something else. Something far harder. Something... that didn't seem like it should be anywhere near the place the slime was at now. Maybe from somewhere near the thing that let the slime make shinies. Make it make shinies?

He decided to move on and try to get somewhere else while he dissolved it. He moved forward trying to find more of this organic or even another type of organic, he only knew to try to get more organic to consume.

As more of the wet points started encountering the slime, it paused, stretching its soft points towards the swarm and staying put. The cold was increasing, and it annoyed the slime in the way the heat had annoyed it, but the hunger was greater. The nearby swarm was still bumping around the slime, and against the something. From this distance the slime could feel the small, fast-moving organics, but it could not yet figure out what the something was.

Closer? Yes, closer. Then the slime would be able to taste. More of the cold points started touching the slime, creeping in between the little spikes now lining its outside self. The slime obeyed the pull of its insides, the emptiness, and moved into the center of the swarm. Some of the small organics rushed away, but some stayed near. But they still moved, faster than any of the other organics. The slime paused again. It did not know how to make the organics stop moving. It felt the instinct to consume them, but how to get to them? The slime twisted its soft parts, keeping its attention on the moving taste of the swarm. They were still gathered around the something. The something drew them. Almost hesitantly, the slime pushed forward, over to the something. It pressed up against the thing, but still could not understand it. But it attracted the swarm, and when the swarm moved back, darting between the wet points hitting the ground and the slime...

The slime twitched, rolling itself forward and over the something just as several of the small creatures halted near it. The motion and near-taste of the creatures almost overwhelmed the slime's newborn senses, but it was still able to overcome the little organics and turn them into fullness inside of itself. Soon the creatures were gone, yet many remained. Their taste was strange, as was their texture, and they squirmed more than the other organics the slime had absorbed previously. But in the end they were consumed. As the cold points from up above intensified, the slime stayed put at the something, waiting for the rest of the swarm.

As they came near, the slime would consume them and replenish itself, put away the hunger. Maybe after that, it would be able to again pull its inside fullness to its outside self again, give itself more parts. Good. Good was something the slime was beginning to understand, as things that helped it find and consume more organic. Anything that helped send away the hunger was good.

The wet points kept hitting. The slime bunched itself upon the something and waited for the swarm.

OOC @ Soulking: Okay. Now, what I mean by 'pine cone leaves' is the little leaf-like shapes on pinecones. Not the pine needles; though you just unlocked that too.

---------------------------------------------

@Serket: (unlocked: ant pheremones, black chitin) The small moving things weren't attracted to the something. They were making the something! But the wet rolling off of the slime, and... there was too much of it, so it must be falling on things that weren't the slime, too- seemed to make the something disappear. Knowing what it was now, no wonder the small fast organics were less organized. But the wet didn't stay on the ground, or anywhere. It seemed to sink into the ground and disappear just as quickly.

@Teethy: (unlocked: pine needles, pine cone leaves) Moving along the... the part of the ground the slime was traveling on didn't seem to have any organic below in which to absorb. But after moving for a short while, it came across something that did taste organic. Organic and very, very SOUR! But it was somewhat crusty and hardened. Whatever it was, it was only about half the size of the slime once it investigated it by pulling on it and climbing on top of it. There were other things the slime had bumped into too, but they were softer and more moist.

The slime decided to absorb this new sour organic thing, in the hopes it would quell his hunger. He decided to keep moving and searching for more organic. He also had to get deeper, surely there would be more organic down there.

Aster was relieved that its up-limbs seemed to be finally be nearly finished healing. It was a little disappointed, though, that it couldn't use them the way that it had wanted to use the ones that it was originally going to grow. Granted, Angry's up-limbs seemed to work mostly the same as the ones that it was going to grow, so there wasn't much difference on that end, but the fact that it couldn't use the second method of flight even though it had grown the musculature to bothered it, even if the slime hadn't necessarily planned to use it all that much. Aster was able to heal the wings even though they hadn't originally belonged to it, so maybe it could modify them to use the musculature? Not now, though. Right now, all the slime wanted to do was get to the second pile and feast. There would be plenty of time to do everything else later.

Big seemed to be waiting for something. For Aster to lead it to its destination? Good, then the other slime seemed to have realized that it had found something good that they could all benefit from. Now all they had to do was wait for Small to come over. It was just then that Aster heard the loud rattling sound that the slime had heard Small make in the past. It quickly looked over in the direction of the sound and immediately saw Small shaking its entire body like Aster itself had done earlier. The medium slime could see small drops of liquid fly off the still barely smaller one as it did so. Apparently Small wanted to get dry too. Okay. But then Small began to pulse with light and move away from the other two slimes. Aster would have been irritated when it saw Small move away, but it was clear that the other slime was trying to communicate something to the others with its pulsing. Aster just wished it knew what. "I want to do something," obviously, but what exactly? The slime followed Small's steps with its gaze, wanting to see what the other slime was going to do.

It was extremely surprised, and a little upset, when Small ended up breathing a plume of hot light on the remains of Angry, and then bit into what was left of the slime. Aster couldn't know what the other two slimes were thinking, of course, but it had assumed from the fact that they had more or less ignored Angry since the the three of them had bested it that they had felt pity for it too, and they would let it get away. Apparently Aster had been wrong about that. But then . . . if Angry had gotten away, and got better, it would undoubtedly attack the three slimes if it ever encountered them again. It had no reason to be nice to them after what they had done to it. Not entirely without reason, but that didn't change things. Aster wasn't used to thinking about things so far in the future, so it hadn't realized any of that before. Maybe it was best after all if the three of them finished off Angry once and for all now, and just tried to be nicer to any new slimes they might encounter in the future.

Small was still holding onto most of Angry's body in its mouth, but part of it, the front part, had fallen off. Aster didn't want Small to get all the food, so the slime decided it would eat that part since Small didn't have it anymore. Aster walked forward and picked up Angry's front in its own mouth. It was big, so the slime needed to open the second hinge in its jaw to be able to hold it. Aster wasn't sure if it could swallow the whole thing safely, so the slime just held the piece of Angry in its mouth for a while and absorbed it through the slime there, trying to press its jaws together and make Angry's front narrower. It was a good thing Aster had decided to pay attention to what Small was doing, though, or it would have left for the pile and missed out on this food. Wait . . . was that what Small had been trying to say earlier? That they shouldn't leave yet? It made sense. Aster would have to remember that.

Avisk saw Unsure grab the part of Angry that had fallen off. Oh well. The slime was going to try and carry that back with its pinchy tail, but instead since Unsure was getting it it decided not to. This fun long thing of Angry was enough. It even moved with the strides up and down. Up and down. Not terribly much, but enough to be rather amusing for Avisk. Enough amusing that it had forgotten it murdered Anrgy for a second. Something it did feel bad enough about. But Angry needed to be dead. Angry might have attacked them afterword if it got better.

The slime wondered if this long hard bending thing was inside it too. Did all the slimes eventually have these?? Avisk wasn't terribly sure it had this inside it. It didn't remember having this ever. But that didn't change that it was now in Avisk's mouth and not being let go of. If Unsure got the front part of Angry, Avisk got this. It didn't know what Kind would get. Maybe some of this. It was certainly long enough.

The slime wandered over to Kind and hoped Unsure would come back, since it originally was trying to get their attention. Whatever Unsure had originally wanted wasn't really clear to Avisk, but it was also intriguing. Unsure wanted something from them. And now, closer to Kind, Avisk realized the shinies were gone. What had happened to those??

The slime dismissed that, wondering what exactly to do with this amusing bendy thing. It wasn't made of the same hard stuff the slimes had previously eaten. And dropping it for only a moment, giving Kind a wary look as if they might try to take it, showed that a small portion of this bending thing had been absorbed without Avisk really realizing it while carrying it in the mouth gap. Hmm. The pincher snapped slightly again in thought as the slime stood protectively near the amusing bendy thing. Avisk moved slightly, having the pincher now grip the bendy in the middle and hold onto it above the slime's back in a kind of arch. That way the bendy thing was drooped over the sides of the slime, hovering over its back, while the tail and pincher of Avisk bent in a comfortable position in a half circle sort of. This way, if needed, the slime could maneuver the harder and longer spines on its back to allow the bendy part to be nestled between them if it should need the pincher to attack threats. The bendy part would stay there, wedged and out of the way of the fires that occasionally spurted from those ends of the spines. Otherwise the bendy amusing thing would hover above it, as a trophy of sorts, and as proof of Angry being no longer. This would be cherished. Nobody else would get this. Avisk would make absolute sure of that.

Zeditha watched Runner go towards Angry and pick up something that had fallen off when Small carried it. She was quite happy just sitting for the moment, even if she was a little bit hungry. Angry seemed quite dead now, and she was happy about that. Angry had been nasty to them, and might have been nasty again if they didn't kill it.

Small seemed to have something long and thin from Angry in its mouth. It wiggled when Small moved, which was funny. Zeditha purred in amusement - maybe the others would figure out that the sound meant she was happy, but it didn't matter. She was fine waiting here.

The sound was annoying, though - or more specifically, the fact that the liquid was in her ears. Lowering her head, she tried shaking her ears and head to get rid of it. Some of it dislodged, and she tried putting her tail into her ears to pull out the rest. That was better.

The strange new information was strange, but she decided to ignore it. It was a new way of growing things? Fine. She wouldn't use it unless the old way wouldn't work.

((Zeditha doesn't seem very motivated towards doing the language thing.))

OOC @ Soulking: You are! You're in the sand, a few feet from the shore, and high tide is coming in. When you said "down there", I thought you were referring to a hole, but you were talking about the decline on the sand into the water. My bad.

Aster had finally managed to either absorb or compress Angry's front so that it was narrow enough for the slime to swallow, so it did. Looking towards Small to see what the other slime was doing with the rest of Angry, it saw that the other slime had . . . draped the rest of Angry's body over the long spines on its back, and was carrying it there, for some reason. Aster didn't really get that - wouldn't it make more sense to eat Angry and put its organic matter to good use instead of just wasting it like that? - but Small had that part of Angry so it belonged to it, so the other slime could do what it wanted with it, Aster supposed. And Small wouldn't grow any larger from using Angry's flesh that way. Unless it had learned how to graft parts onto itself like Aster had. The slime had eaten a lot of that disgusting stuff that Aster had seemed to get the knowledge from, so maybe it had. Aster couldn't think of any reason why Small would want to graft something onto that part of itself, though. The slime didn't think that part of Angry would be any more useful than the spines Small already had there. They actually seemed more useful, in fact. Well, Small could do what it liked. Aster wouldn't worry about it.

Now that Angry finally seemed to be taken care of once and for all, Aster decided that it was time to head for the pile. Fortunately, Big didn't seem to have gotten impatient as the other two slimes sorted things out and was waiting patiently for them, at least as far as Aster could tell. Aster still didn't know how much Small knew of what was going on . . . no, it realized, it had wanted them to stay until they had taken care of Angry before, which meant that it realized that Aster had wanted to leave. And now that its wings were mostly healed, the slime could fly there. Yes, Aster decided, it would do that. It had wanted to fly for so long now, but one thing or another had prevented it from doing so until now. Now that it was able, and it had somewhere to go, the slime fully intended to use its new ability.

Making the "follow" chirp again, Aster spread Angry's wings with newly regrown feathers and leapt into the air. It knew how to use the wings from the animal that it had originally intended to grow wings from, whose manner of flight was very similar to the animal Angry had grown its own wings from, so it didn't anticipate any problems, but the slime had forgotten that its own body was somewhat different in structure than the animal whose knowledge it was using, so the slime teetered and wobbled in midair for a few long moments before it was able to correct its balance and fly straight. After that, Aster immediately started heading towards the place where it knew the second pile was located, keeping an eye out for the wide black strip with yellow lines that would serve as a landmark. The slime wasn't very high up in the air, not that much farther up than Big's head - it hadn't quite figured out how to gain altitude yet - but in this one moment, it didn't matter. Aster was finally flying, and it felt amazing. The slime was so enraptured by the feeling of being airborne that it completely forgot to check and make sure that the other two slimes were following it.

Avisk watched as Unsure flew. Now Kind and Unsure could both fly and leave it on the ground. Alone. Unfortunately. The slime glanced to Kind, seeming slightly sadder all of a sudden as Unsure flew off without bothering to see if they followed. It had made a sound that the slime registered before as the same sound Unsure had made. Follow. Something told Avisk that meant follow. The slime made a similar sound to Kind, trying to mock the sound Unsure had made to the best of its ability.

Avisk started off, wanting to be sure Kind followed them but also keeping enough distance so that it could still sort of see Unsure. It rattled a few times, loudly, and the wobbly bendy hard part of Angry shook within the pincher hovering that piece above the slime's back. Hopefully Unsure could hear that, as it was the same similar rattle to what Avisk had wanted to say was "please wait" just without the fire. It didn't need fire all the time it hoped.

Avisk let out a sighing hiss for a second. It was unsure if it should keep going or actually wait for Kind, as Unsure actually just continued to go. The slime didn't like this. Unsure should have waited.

((storm coming in, might not be on tomorrow thanks to it)

Zeditha noticed Runner flying off, and spread her own wings briefly before remembering Small. Small still couldn't fly! Did Small want to be carried? She clacked a few times and held her front legs open as she had done before when offering to carry the slime.

Runner didn't seem to be going very fast in the air, so Zeditha knew she would be able to catch up with some effort. She just hoped that what Runner had found was food.

((Does Avisk want a ride? Also, I think I have them figured out now...))
