Request: No new Prize breeds, please!

Recommended Posts

I think I would support adding new CBs of past prizes ONLY to replenish to the amount they were already at. I will never agree to expanding the pool of active dragons, but during the years as more CBs become inactive or released into the wild or whatnot, I will begrudgingly agree to having those numbers back up to their original numbers.

So such as the 60 (or whatever number it is now) of bronze tinsels, if 10 of them become inactive, to have 10 people win a bronze tinsel so that we have the same number of active dragons again.

Remove placement prizes, increase the number of HMs by quite a bit, no new prize breeds so that anything and everything new is released to the cave only, and when people win HM status they can pick from cave stuff with restrictions or the only two previous prize breeds in existence ever in DC. Tinsels and Shimmers will eventually become common, people will quit complaining, and no one gets anything specail ever again.

This is the only real answer if we want to at least let current prize winners feel like their current prizes wont be completely devalued. At least from what I see. With a larger HM pool so many people aching for a prize dragon can get one, but there will be no new prizes added ever to a contest. Anything new will be released straight to the cave only, Tinsels and Shimmers will be part of the HM prize options but not released on the cave because please at least give us prize winners that.

Yeah. I'm so repeating my self. Either way, this is really the only way I see to fix this. TJ doesn't see the problem in breeding because they are breeding. They are just not breeding how we want . Their not breeding a shiny every single time so we get frustrated and with the semi ok breeding ratios, it only makes it worse.

So all in all, no. No more new prize dragons ever, just use tinsels/shimmers as HM prizes and remove 1st-rd place and leave only a huge HM pool.

You know... maybe it's because I don't give a rat's patootie about lineages, gen level or any of that crap and play DC for the main goal of collecting the pretty sprites, but I don't support this. Reason being? There's always a thread that pops up or a few kind individuals who float about on the forums who will gift eggs.

Don't believe me? How do you think I came by a Holly? Or any of my prize dragons? The tinsels were from the old Tinsel Gifting thread. The Holly was a random gift from a kind breeder. My clean silver female was a trade for a hatchie from my very messy but not inbred Holly due to its distant Thuwed lineage. And my daughter got silver hatchies for free from another very kind breeder.

Soooo... I guess I'd just like it to stay as is. Every OTHER year introduce a new prize (if that's too much for people, maybe every 3? 4? 5? I don't care, really), give people time to bargain/collect/trade for them, and give everyone a new pretty sprite to cuddle.

Besides, there's always breeders (like myself - now granted, all my prizes are very, very high gen and therefore worthless for trade) who will simply breed something pretty and chuck it into the AP to spread the love. Done this a BUNCH. And I'm certain there're others like me. So the entire argument of "You MUST know someone to get a prize!!!" is kind of moot. Perhaps knowing someone will get you a 'valuable' low-gen, but even without, they become available.

As said, I don't care about gens, so that makes my argument a bit... biased, I suppose. I just want more pretty sprites. My scroll must get longer. Mwahahahah.

And yah, not everyone wins the lottery, but I'm not playing games to enjoy real life "one wins, a few thousand lose" odds.

I think a more apt comparison to the raffle would be "Not everyone wins the lottery, but there are other ways to get money."

And continuing with the money comparison, the prize dragons would be like being a millionaire, the really low-gens would be like being rich, and the longer gen common lineages are like making the average salary.

People always want to get rich. Heck, I'd be happy! tongue.gifxd.png

But I've had to adjust my goals to stay within the range of what I can afford.

If that's the way it's going to be, that's the way it's going to be.

The issue that REALLY needs resolving is to ensure that the CB prize dragons are replenished as people leave the game.

At this point, the way the DC economy works, if the CB prize dragons were to dwindle into unavailability that would probably be enough to trigger a complete DragCave "stock market" collapse.

This is something I like. Many have suggested throwing them into the cave after x amount of years but personally as a prize winner that makes me a tad uncomfortable.

Some (Including my self) have suggested retiring breeds to HM status for x number of years. That seems more plausible but as more prizes are added, how will this work?

Actually now that I think about it...

lets say Dragons are retired to HM in this sequence:

2014 and 2015: 60 tinsels, 60 shimmers, 60 '14 prizes

2016 and 2017: 60 tinsels, 60 shimmers, 60 '14 prizes, 60 '16 prizes

2018 and 2019: 60 tinsels, 60 shimmers, 60 '14 prizes, 60 '16 prizes, 60 '18 prizes

but instead of letting them pile up we do the following:

2014-2015: 60 '14 Prizes, 60 Shimmers, Tinsels HM

2015-2016: 60 '14, 60 Shimmers, Tinsels HM

2016-2017: 60 '16, 60 '14, Shimmers & Tinsels HM

2017-2018: 60 '16, 60 '14, Shimmers & Tinsels HM

2018-2019: 60 '18, 60 '16, '14 Prize, Shimmers, Tinsels HM

2019-2020: 60 '18, 60 '16, '14 Prizes & Shimmers HM, Tinsels retired but able to still breed.

Thats 5 years consecutive that a prize can be HM and hopefully that ups its CB status. Each prize can remain in HM status for 5 years and as an available prize for two.

So every two years we get a new prize and the earliest prize becomes HM and the earliers of prizes after that becomes retired after about 5 years. This should be plenty of time and with so much demand for them maybe we can get a decent population going. If something like this happens I would like it if there was more than just 30 HM Winners, but many more like 50-80. Hopfully this will encourage more people to play and with a larger HM pool leave more people a little happier.

No, do not retire the past prizes. That just opens a different can of worms, and insures that the low gen population of that breed eventually becomes increasingly scarce. What does it matter if there are increasing numbers of past prize breeds available as HM?

It seems to matter to some prize owners....

Well with new prizes some of the heat to breed old ones will hopefully die down, seeing as people will be focused on collecting eggs from the newer ones. On top of that if we just keep letting them stay in HM eventually we're gonna overwhelm our selves. every so often as a user goes inactive and old CB Prize population starts to dwindle we can add them back in for a year or two as HM. Heck TJ could even have a spontaneous poll on who we would like to see make a return for a year as an HM prize from previous placement prizes.

I just don't want there to stop being prizes nor do I want them to be thrown into the cave because personally that destroys the purpose of it being a cool unique prize. If we can manage to combine this with like multi clutching and improved breeding ratios in terms of how many actual shinies are bred then this could work out.

If that were true, people wouldn't still be after 2gen tinsels any more.

In my experience people became more rabid about getting 2nd gen offspring from Prizes in general after the first round of Shimmers grew up. For me, there was a marked increase of people asking/bothering me about it during that time. It died down some at around the same time Shimmers spread around enough that they didn't command high prices regardless of their gen.

@Fiona: You might want to talk to haze, one day. She totally hates sharing the ownership of bronze tinsels with anyone that did no win through a contest back in 2010. smile.gif

I know Haze's perspective. I understand it. That doesn't mean I particularly agree with it.

And I really see no problem with increasing numbers of prize breeds in the HM pool. Right now a HM winner has over 100 breeds to choose from. (basically, everything that drops in the cave plus past Christmas dragons plus frill plus alts plus hybrids) This number increases by at least one every year anyway, as past Christmas dragons are added to the pool. There is also the potential to add more hybrids all the time. How does also adding another former prize breed every couple years overwhelm people?

And retiring the breed entirely means no more CB. Having a clunky arrangement where TJ decides at some point that too many CB owners have stopped playing and a particular breed needs fresh blood isn't a good answer.

True. It was a suggestion so improvement to it is always welcome. Personally I see it as overwhelming in terms of choices because every two to three years will add on 3 new different colord prizes to HM. If it doesn't bother anyone then heck we can just keep throwing them into the HM pool.

I wouldn't want to see Prize breeds never again increased, but I do think it might be nice to have a break (preferably 2 years minimum, maybe 3) between new Prize introductions.

I'm not a hugely obsessive collector, so I'm actually coming at this from the complete opposite angle that most people here seem to be speaking from; rather than a chance to get a low-gen Prize myself, I just want the trade threads to get a break from people clamouring after Prizes! smile.gif When I go looking for something in the trading boards, it seems like every desirable egg on offer is followed by the words "Wanted: 2-3rd gen Prize" -- often followed by a list of selected (or proscribed) lineages. Even though I'm perfectly happy with my higher-gen Prizes, I feel like I *have* to scrabble after a low-gen Prize of my own, just so I can breed something that people will trade for; nobody wants anything else, apparently.

Maybe if it was known that there wouldn't be a new Prize for X years, the craze to stock up on every colour would be relaxed a little. I can sympathise with those who are obsessive collectors, and are probably pretty stressed about trying to get full sets (whatever their preferred "set" is) of not one, not two, but THREE super-rare dragons in just under a year so that they can do the same thing the next year.

Mostly, though, I'd just like to be able to go into a trade thread without scrolling through endless "Wanted" lists of dragons only a handful of people can breed being listed as the only thing people want in exchange for regular Cave dragons.

Being able to throw them into the HM pool for later non placement winners to grab one and help in expanding the breeds population will ensure that those kinds of trades dwindle in time. And I agree allowing a break between introductions will definitely help. Allowing a prize to run as main prize for two to three years with hopefully increased breeding odds and possibly multi clutching will definitely help in the long run.

I'm fairly sure that Haze said she was fine with them being HM.

Edit This is what I am referring too (on page 11)

Promote to HM status, add multiclutching + increased prize breeding ratios seems like a logical way to both keep the remaining CB pool more or less the same without diluting it by a large amount every year.

The Hollies managed to come back after they were added to HM status, and that was only with once-a-year breeding for them.

Though I'm not sure if anythings been recanted since then.

Well frankly, I'd like to see the same prize dragons given out to EVERYONE once in a while.

How about Everyone that logs in one day getting a random CB prize dragon.

The whole . . . rich getting richer is really spoiling the game for me.

I do not support this. If that were to happen, I would like to choose my prize.

Does the collapse of the USSR and the economic reforms of China remind you of anything?

On top f the fact that it really wont help much. It feels kinda weird just tossing a random CB at someone for no good reason. At least the prize winners participated in something and where lucky enough to win. These would just be... too random.

It should simply just boil down to improved bred prize egg ratios, multi clutching, and demoting a prize to HM after some time. Personally I would also suggest retiring them after another set of years to allow users to pick from other dragons. But that isn't necessary.

One last two cents. The uproar to be had by those that did not log on/weren't informed/couldn't get on, would create much more harm than good..

That too. I really do see that happening. Especially for users who are not involved in the forums, they will not be happy about it.

Off topic: Every time I see a post from you lilacamy931 I always read it in my mind with fluttershy's voice. Its funny and cute. Just thought I'd mention it.

I THINK there is precedent for this. I wasn't really that active when the fireworks badge came out, anyone who was remember the general reaction of those who missed out? I'm guessing it wasn't far off from what lilacamy is saying. And if it were tied to a specific egg? 100x worse.

Indeed. People were annoyed that there was no warning - and in fact, no way to know what one had done - I remember being very surprised (as July 4 means little to me as a "festival day" xd.png) to see it and assuming it was temporary.

Since this is just a game and our 'wealth' consists of pixel art it might not be such a bad thing to see our 'system' collapse and players basically having to start over.

It would be interesting to say the least.
