Posted March 21, 2014 Jak went back to the alchemy room part of the journal and read it carefully before nodding and going to the control panel. He adjusted a few of the levers and switches, then activated the elevator, causing it to go down more, but this time to a specific place. When they stopped they had come to rest in a lab of sorts, with beakers full of colored liquids, cups with different things inside, and tables with different alchemical devices. The room itself was modest in comparison to the rest of the castle, a mere 500 by 500 feet or so, and was decorated sparsely. Lanterns hung from the ceiling, giving off there soft white glow, and a number of chairs sat at the benches around the room. Beyond that the room was made of a rich brown wood, with a tasteful paint on the walls. The center was marked by another pedestal, this one holding a sphere about the size of a soccer ball with grooves running all over its surface. It was speared by a beam of light which entered the bottom of it, but didn't leave the top. The ingredients that were given, were definitely strange, at least to Jak's mind. They ranged from normal things like sulfur and acids to weird things like spine of tadpole, dead mans coin, never ending flame. He didn't dare touch anything, instead staying on the elevator and thumbing through the lab section again. "Um, it says here there's a guardian in here, but he says it's not a creature so much as a puzzle. I can't make out the solution, but he says that 'The failure of this guardians test would mean the most agonizing of deaths. I do not have the stomach to recount it here, but I would warn anyone to tries to enter this lab, be sure of your ability to solve the sphere, or be subjected to a horrendous end.' Well that's comforting." Jak said, snapping the book shut and letting it disappear. "It says that if you don't solve the puzzle before using the lab the 'horrendous end' will happen to you so you have to do the puzzle first." Jak explained. "Personally I vote we just back out of this room and carry on. I don't even know if I could solve the puzzle or if there's a time limit or other restriction. I just don't think it's a great idea." Posted March 21, 2014 Varren slithered on and looked about as Fren paused at the door way with Alina to not put the hatchling in danger. She looked at what the room had and shook her head a bit. WHen Jak read what the author had to say about it he did not like the idea, but then Varren voiced her next thoughts "As I've said before, the castle, beyond bare basics, does not hand over anything freely, it always makes sure you are tested for it, before or after." he said glancing at Jaks robotic leg "Here at least, we have a choice. However, I've never seen such a puzzle like this before." he admitted looking at it and that author is getting annoying skipping out on key things like advice he was given and just what this does it one fails it." he admitted wondering more and more if the holobook was a test in its self. Fren sighed "The sphere reminds me of a alien toy we once found exploring a dead planet. If it works in the same manner, one must turn and move it at the right angles to have the light flow to certain points where it will be released letting you know you found a correct spot. They normally have 12 of these spots and are hard to find as anywhere along the paths could be a spot. However once you find at least 3 of the spots you can start to see a pattern in the paths. Though as soon as you start you have limited time and we found the one we had located, it just shut down when the light distorted, a sign you failed. Finding the right spots seem to stabilize it increasing your time to continue." she explained "However..... from here that could be entirely different." she admitted. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 21, 2014 "I don't think it's the authors fault actually." Jak said suddenly. "This guy seems to have been given a free pass to roam the castle and record what he found for whatever reason. The castle kept his book in the library and he didn't get to finish it. I mean it was mid paragraph without any scribbles or signs that he got attacked. Anyway, Medad gave Alina a lot of personal advice, so maybe it's the same with this guy and he just doesn't want to share it because of its nature. As to the puzzle, maybe the castle edited it out. He definitely wrote about it, it's just kind of faded making it unreadable which is weird because the rest of the book isn't like that. He was allowed to describe the challenges just not the solutions." Jak said, looking at the sphere as best he could before snapping his fingers and rifling through the many pockets on his vest. A moment later he pulled out a pair of binoculars which he put to his eyes and adjusted until he could see the sphere. "It looks like its stone of some kind, and those groove things are kind of crystal looking. There are small round points in the grooves and I think the beam of lights sitting in one." He said, handing off the binoculars to whoever wanted them next. "I think Fren's actually got the right idea, it looks like that type of puzzle. We solve it and we get to use the lab." He said, thinking hard for a moment before looking at the others. "Ok, I'm pretty sure I can solve the puzzle but there's no guarantee. So you guys stay here, I go try and solve it. If I'm about to fail you guys book it and all you've lost is a liability. I succeed and we get to use the lab after all." He said, taking a deep breathe as though trying to convince himself that this was a good idea. Kara glanced a the others, thinking about the proposition. She had to admit that Jak was good with puzzles just with the toys he kept in his pouch and the ease with which he solved them. She shrugged a little, knowing that Jak's words made sense in this regard. If he failed they lost one person who wasn't that... She stopped, remembering what her parents had said before the incident. 'Mortals lives are fleeting, do not let them squander them.' She shook her head after a moment and looked around again. "We can't do this just because you think you're worthless jak, we have to do this because it's the best course of action. So, we need to think of other solutions. Leaving is always one, but so is trying to solve it. I would like to point out that I've never been the greatest at alchemy. I can follow a recipe, which there appears to be quite a few of, but mine aren't always quite as good as they should be." Share this post Link to post
Posted March 21, 2014 Varren looked at them and nodded "The risk sounds too high for the reward then." he said before Fren came in "I was the one who figured the puzzle out back when when my kind found another one of these. I know what to look for and how to read it. I can also make a few good things in here. Its got everything I need too make my peoples healing serum. A substance that works an awful lot like Kara's tears." she explained "However one can't cry all the time, but I can make a slow but stead flow of the stuff." she explained Varren looked at the others "Yes? No?" he asked wanting it to be a vote. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 21, 2014 Jak frowned and looked at Kara, then at Fren, considering the choices presented. Finally he shook his head. "No, I won't agree as long as it's Fren going in there." He said. "She's to important to the group." He shrugged at Fren's look and continued uninterrupted. "Alina relies on her, she has combat and stealth skills, plus a bunch of other things that makes her important." He explained. "But from what you guys are saying it is important to get into the room. So we either give up on that route or I go in." He said, rummaging around in his vest pockets for a couple of things. One was a headband with what looked like a flashlight that he pulled on, while the next was a radio. He tossed this to Varren, then clicked his on as well. Finally he pulled out his cell phone, which oddly still had a full charge, and tapped the thing on his forehead. A moment or two later he handed his cell to Varren and put an ear piece in. "See now you guys can help me while not being in the room." He explained. You guys can give me advice and stuff over the radio and still be safe." Jak beamed at the others, knowing that this time his reasoning was sound. The others would have to agree with it, especially if what Fren said was true. Kara continued to frown, thinking the whole thing over before finally shaking her head. "Getting yourself killed won't do us any good, if anything I should be the one to do it. I'm immortal so whatever it is won't kill me permanently." "No that won't work." Jak said, showing her the book. "Neither mortal or immortal, stone or dirt, wild or tamed can survive the trap which lies beneath the floors of that room, for it destroys all that it touches." Kara nodded again, thoughtful once more. "Ok, so then sending in you is our best option, but frankly I don't think it's a good idea." She said. "Why?" Jak asked, his eyes narrowing suddenly. "Because of what happened last time? Listen I screwed up, I get that but I'm not trying to be br-" "It's not that Jak, at least not completely. I don't think you're trying to prove your bravery, but I do think you are trying to prove that you are capable, even if it's just to yourself. I think you see an opportunity to regain some honor and you're going for it, hoping to alleviate some of the guilt from what happened." "No, that's not it at all." Jak said, shaking his head. "I just think I'm the best choice is all." "And you are, if we choose to go for it, which we haven't decided. But look, you lost a leg, that's tough and does a great deal of emotional trauma to the victim, not to mention what the group has already said. Now you're seeing an opportunity to prove to yourself that you can do things right and I think you're taking it. A mortals life is short as is, you are basically doing what you did in the forge, throwing your life away to try and impress us." Jak shook his head firmly, refusing to listen. "I am going in if anyone is Kara. Even if I am trying to prove my abilities, what difference does it make? I'm not putting you guys in any danger, so there's no problem. Plus, I'm not doing this to show you I'm brave or whatever, I'm not trying to impress you Kara, I'm just doing what I can to help the group." Kara let out a long breath, blowing some of her hair away before turning, her hands on her hips to Varren. "What do you want to do? What's your opinion? He's not listening to me, but I don't know if him going is a bad call or not. So you talk." Kara said, walking off a little ways and waiting for the ensuing debate to begin. Posted March 21, 2014 Fren looked at Jak before walking over to him "I guess the only way to tell is if you can follow directions. I can walk you through it however you'll need to describe everything on the ball in detail quickly to me so I know what you see." she said looking stern but to Jak's most likely releif, not hostile. Varren sighed and looked at the phone and walkitalky "Alright, Fren will walk him through it from the other side since she is the only one who can guide him through it." he said "He's determined to be the one in here and there's high chances we'll need what Fren can produce here." he explained "Jak, you got 2 choices, Fren will be the one you contact if your stuck. You listen to her in this reguard, and your other choice which no one will hold against you is those doors. Those I don't think I need to explain." He explained before heading for them "For now, everyone but Jak, we'll be on the other side of those doors." he directed. Fren looked at Jak again "Contact us when your ready. And if think about showing off, remember death awaits and Alina won't forgive another life threatening stupid move." she said before starting to head towards the door. Her tail tip gently brushing his shoulder in her kinds 'good luck' gesture. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 21, 2014 Jak nodded and walked over to the ball, the camera bobbing with his footsteps until he reached the sphere. Making sure not to touch it he carefully circled, looking at ever angle he could while itching under his hat nervously. "Ok, so it looks like it's made of stone or something, and there's crystal in the lines." He said over the radio, making sure to show the others with the camera on his head. "Um, the light things coming from a crystal on the um... The thing." He said. "Ok, so it looks like there's a big circle on the top, so I guess that's where we have to get the beam. I guess I'm going to touch it now." The others could hear Jak taking a couple of breaths before his hands appeared and touched the sphere. Instantly the spheres lines turned red and began to pulse slowly. Jak began to turn the sphere, following the maze-like grooves on the sphere. It was slow going with all the dead ends, but he seemed to be making progress until he reached an intersection of four lines. No matter which way he went he came back to the intersection like magic. "I need some help here." He said, trying one of paths again. "I can't go anywhere." Share this post Link to post
Posted March 22, 2014 (edited) Fren nodded "Alright Jak slow down your movements, here a new path will open as you slowly trace it. Don't worry about your time limit you got plenty still. The opening is most likely going to be on the 3rd road to the left. Stop when your just over 43% of the way and the new road should form." she directed. Varren looked at Kara as Fren continued to direct Jak. "Even though it was ages ago, I still hate the prospect of losing my team members to death, even if this is just a group." he admitted quietly. Posted March 22, 2014 Kara watched Jak on the screen that he had provided, but glanced up at Varren's words. "Better to care then to throw peoples lives away." She murmured. "I'm surprised that you didn't back me though, especially with Jak's track record. Why didn't you keep him from going in?" Jak took a shaky breath, noticing that the pulses were already getting closer together which he assumed stood for the timer. Following Fren's instructions he followed the path that suddenly opened right where Fren said it would be. After that he continued on, still going slow all while the pulses were getting closer together. He was getting visibly nervous now, his hands getting sweaty even as he tried to scratch his ear. The pulses were now blinking two or three times a second and a faint humming was coming from the crystal below the orb. Jak was now cursing to himself under his breath, panicking as he continued to move through the maze. He was getting close to the end, and was taking all of Fren's advice as she gave it, hurriedly turning the sphere as fast as he could. In all he had been going for maybe two minutes and already the pulses were so close together that they were almost a solid color. The whine from the crystal was getting louder as well and it was beginning to glow bright. Suddenly the crystal began to spin, it's glow intensifying the faster it went. The whine reached unbearable levels, making Jak unable to hear Fren, but it didn't matter, he had figured it out, and after a second or two of frantic spinning, the orb and the crystal went dark, the door clicked open, and everything calmed. Jak staggered back a few steps before falling backward to land on his rear where he sat panting, the adrenaline still pumping through his system causing his muscles to twitch and spasm, waiting for him to use them. "It's- it's done." He panted to Varren before laying back and looking at the ceiling. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 22, 2014 Varren looked at Kara again "With such a place as this, if no risk is taken, no gain is made. I only allowed Jak to do this because he has a guide to help him here. Had it been only him, we would have left." he admitted as Fren went silent as lots of noise started to come in from Jak's end of the link. "Its in the final stages." she said half her self till it suddenly went dark and the doors opened "This time, this risk seems to have paid off." he said looking releaved. He nodded Jak said it was done and went over to the boy and patted his shoulder with a nod "Good job Jak." he said as Fren paused and looked at Jak before giving him a nod as well before she went to start her work on the syrum dispenser. "Ideally now, since we've already paid now to use this room, we can consider it a safe spot now for the future." Varren said for everyone to here Fren worked with her tail and spare hand as she held Alina close against her breasts. While there was no spawning pool there was many other things she could use. Lots of organic matter to break down and then reshape into what she wanted. However as she worked, a small voice in her head asked why Alina had the impact she had on her. And she right now..... could not answer the question. She could say because the hatchling called her mother but truth be told. While she'd never currently admit to it, young before had not been excluded if they got in her way in her missions. But Alina comes around and she won't let any harm come to the hatchling as much as possible. She continued to work her eye's half open as she was deep in thought as she made her project. To many she might even look half asleep as she placed leafs and body parts stored in jars into bowls and other things before pouring them with what ever contents now liquid before she placed her hand in the big one and began to slowly stir. Posted March 23, 2014 Kara frowned as Varren spoke, thinking his words over before nodding. "I guess that's true." She said slowly. "I just question the wisdom of letting him do th-" she stopped as the doors suddenly swung open, revealing Jak sitting on the floor near the orb. He was panting from the stress that fear brings, but other then that he was fine. "Here." Kara said, giving Jak her water bottle. "It'll help." Jak took a long drink before handing the bottle back to Kara. "Thanks Varren." He said hoarsely, his voice cracking as he pulled out his own water bottle and drank deeply. "Bit tense there for a second." He joked quietly. Kara smiled at his weak attempt at humor before going to a nearby bookshelf. She looked through the titles before finally settling on a book titled 'Potions, Elixirs, and Other Useful Items for the Alchemist'. "This is a Phoenix book." She said, holding it up as she flipped through it. "I know people who would kill for this thing, there were only 30 original copies printed before the author vanished along with his other works. This things a first edition, mint, and it's signed by the author! This is worth every tree in the Red Wood, plus all of the neighboring kingdoms." Kara explained as she went to a table and carefully turned the pages of book, finally settling on one that looked good. The book itself was written in a horribly complex language with, what the others could only assume to be letters, sometimes standing alone and other times mixing together. As it was the whole thing just looked like gibberish, but Kara seemed able to read it just fine and was indeed humming as she went about her work, pulling different ingredients from shelves before beginning her work. As she went about her business, Kara started thinking back to what she and Fren had said about Alina. Everything Kara had told Fren was true, but she was worried about what the consequences would be if Fren couldn't instill the maturity and self control that Alina would need to properly use her powers. "Fren? I wanted to speak with you again about Alina." Kara said quietly so that only the two could hear. "I was thinking, and maybe you and I were wrong. We don't know the way that a shadow dragon was normally raised, so in this case it's a matter of making things up as we go. That's why I was thinking... Maybe we should bring at the very least Varren in, maybe even Jak, although that's not a must. They need to be aware of how their influences could affect Alina. I heard a human say that it takes a village to raise a child. Maybe that's what this situation needs." As the talk was going on, Jak was busy against a bare patch of stone, staying as far away from the equipment or anything else that could be broken, causing another attack. He wasn't going to be the idiot that the others dragged along, he was going to be helpful and not do stupid things, and this room offered plenty of ways to do stupid things. So he sat in a corner, played with his glowing sphere, and stayed quiet. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) Varren chuckled before somewhat sitting down beside Jak "I only allowed you to do that because you had a guide. Had Fren not known of that device we would have left this room. I don't let my group members place them selfs in potentially fatal situations with out knowing or having help from who knows of the situation." he explained to make sure there was no room for Jak to think the group was trying to get rid of him. "And I'm glad both you and Fren, while you don't like each other at all, you can still work together. Shows maturity." he complimented the boy with a nod before getting up "Rest up, you've earned." Fren looked at Kara and paused "Jak's going to be a influence sadly regardless of what we think, as Varren will be as well since he's more or less the leader of the group. Leaders have an impact on those under then always." she said quietly "I trust Varren to display what he needs to, Jak however I worry. He's displayed him self to be quiet impulse driven, a trait humans tend to encourage which will not aid Alina and her ability's. With such power impulse cannot be a factor. With great power comes great responsibility. The skills my people as a whole have had to learn this as well." she explained nodding to the bowl she was using that had something growing in it now "I just hope I can teach Alina the needed self control and info to make her decisions with out impulses taking over. Impulse caused a civil war with my people. A reason why we don't teach others these skills we do not wish them to learn the hard way. Some say my people hold the power of gods in our hands, and we might very well, many look at our tech and see life forms, not tools and devices...." she sighed before shaking her head "If such can be applied to Alina's powers, I'll be trying to teach her them." she finished off saying before scooping out a strange looking creature out of the large bowl. She looked at it then at Kara "Its a based off a creature from one of the worlds, called a Renz, they produced a enzym on there body's that had healing property's, With a sample of dna from one, we took the sample and left the origanel creatures alone, and edited the sample, now while no longer sentient, it produces the same enzym, only stronger, it feeds on dead cells." she explained. "If one is badly injured you can use this as well, place it on the wound and it will eat away at the dead parts, the enzym will be secreted as it does this and a otherwise fatal wound will be healed quickly, the subject maybe weak still but the wound healed, example, Jak's leg, had we gotten the bolder off his leg, and it would not kill him to do so, this could help and restore his leg." she explained placing it on her shoulder. It seemed to sniff around a bit before going inactive again its slime like layer just blending into Fren's slime layer "My people use DNA and proteins for our tech while most use metal plastic and wood for there's. But the basic principle applies to both. Human aviation was developed seeing there planets birds flying for example. My people developed medical devices based off creatures that could help with similar things as well." she explained. ((Kind of wondering when the other user will jump in, been a bit now since being told they where almost ready lol.)) Edited March 23, 2014 by little lost dragon Share this post Link to post
Posted March 24, 2014 (I'm here, I was waiting for some time to pass after Kara's appearance and whenever I got on you two were in the middle of something. I'll join in now tho.) Username: R_R Character name: Lynn Veertok Species/appearance: Kaioptera/she looks like this -> Lynn and is about 3 feet tall when she stands on her hind legs. Abilities: Good at flying, excellent hearing/echolocation, has a venomous bite and strong jaw power. She also can use nature/plant magic. Personality: Kind, intelligent, and although she has some of her people's cautiousness, if something holds her attention she tends to be unaware of her other surroundings. History: RPed out Other: Her world is similar to Earth when the dinosaurs still roamed/ many reptiles and insects but very few mammals. Her kind lives in giant trees (Akacu) and eats the fruit they produce. The fruit is so acidic that it is deadly to most things however the basic saliva of Lynn's race allows them to eat it and the saliva also acts as a venom. They also are able to pierce the exoskeletons of giant insects (any that fit in their mouth) and eat them as well. Despite their adaptations they are often preyed upon by the other inhabitants of the forest (particularly snakes). Their civilization is fairly tribal but has a love of puzzles. After a fitful sleep plagued by the same dream she had been having for months Lynn awoke to sight that could have passed for another dream. "Where...where am I?" Lynn said now fully awake and looking about the room. She was in an enclosed space and to her bewilderment everything was perfectly square. She listened but could not detect anything. She sniffed and detected the earthy smell that belonged to the contents of her bag. She smiled a little "At least there's something I am familiar with." she thought. After struggling to get off of the rectangular springy thing she awoke on and grabbed her bag she explored the room examining unfamiliar objects until she came across a rectangle that was embedded into the wall. Upon closer inspection she could she light coming from the small gap underneath it and had a round protrusion on the right side. After peering though the gap and seeing a large open space Lynn concluded that the rectangle must be a door of some kind. She pressed on the door without effect so she tried pulling on the protrusion and noticed it turned so she turned it purposely this time and the door swung inwards. Stepping out into the corridor she pondered what to to next. Lynn let out a high pitched squeak that would be outside the range of hearing of most creatures and listened for the echos. It was a long time before she heard any from down the halls and once again could not detect any signs of life. Becoming unnerved she thought of the sounds of her home how the trees creaked, the insects sang, the fluttering of the leaves in the wind, and the chatter of her people. "My people! They will be worried when they find that I'm gone." Lynn realized. Lynn shook her head, "For now I need to find out where I am before I can figure out how to get back." Lynn said to herself while looking down both paths. She decided to take the path on the right and took flight down the hall. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 24, 2014 (Welcome to the club robin. Please remember to post at least once a day, or if you can't post vaguely. LLD and I go quickly, so you need to keep up as well. Right now we're in an alchemy lab with no doors. However you can enter the room a number of ways, trapdoor, secret passage, whatever. Use your imagination, just keep it reasonable. Welcome again.) "I understand that they will influence Alina, but I am saying that maybe we need to tell them precisely what thy are influencing. I think we need to tell Varren at least what Alina is, where she came from, and what she can do. It's a precaution, to help him and you. He knows that he needs to act a certain way around her, and she learns that behavior because of it. That's all I'm saying." Kara said, dropping a couple of bright yellow crystals into the cauldron. Just like that the smoke turned to a roaring flame that slowly died to campfire proportions before going out completely. "Perfect." Kara said, grabbing a number of large jars and dipping them in. Soon the cauldron was empty and Kara had three jars full of a fiery liquid which swirled between blue, red, orange and yellow at random. "Phoenix fire." Kara explained, dipping her finger into the leftover potion at the bottom of the cauldron. With a causal flick she threw it against the stone tabletop where it spread into a roaring fire. Kara nodded and quickly patted it out before looking at Fren. "Magical flame. It was created when the fey and the humans lived together. It wasn't a peaceful existence, the humans still feared us, so weapons were made. This was one of them, and it was made in the last days of the war. It was only used once, and it decimated the greatest city the humans had, burned every person in the city alive. The ground itself melted before the phoenixes would put it out completely. The fey council forbade its production for all time. They burned every trace of it save in the histories so that others could learn from their mistakes. This is the only recipe that exists to my knowledge, and if they knew I was making it, they'd..." She stopped, thinking for a few moments. What would they do to her that hadn't been done already? Finally she shook her head and shrugged. "Doesn't matter, they're not here and we are. I say the need outweighs the risk, especially considering the guardians." With that she carefull began to seal the jars then wrap them in cloth before putting them in her bag so they wouldn't break on their own. She doubted seriously that they would, the jars having been sealed with an incantation of Phoenix design, but it was better to be careful. When she finished she went to clean out the cauldron only to find it completely empty and scrubbed spotless. Kara didn't even comment, instead going back to looking through the book again, seeing if anything else popped out at her. Jak nodded up at Varren and said 'thanks' quietly before going back to his sphere. He was working on figuring out a new mode, this one making the sphere turn blue and stay that way when he looked around. He had heard something, very faint like a tiny squeak. It was just a tiny sound, and it was only a matter of seconds before he went back to the sphere, already forgetting the noise as the sphere turned green. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 24, 2014 Fren nodded and looked at Alina's sleeping form in her arm against her chest. Kara was the closest they had to an expert on how to raise Alina. She went over to Varren and told him what Kara told her. His eye's blinked before he nodded. He spoke quietly too and she paused before nodding as well before returning to her spot before she started another project. She needed more acid bombs like the one she used on that one guardian. However something sounded, very high in frequency. Her kind did not have ears persay they felt the sound through there whole body's. Much like a snake however there brains can tell the difference between a vibration and contact to the scales. And the sound she just picked up hurt like heck to her. She gritted her teeth as she tensed with her eye's closed, but it left as soon as it arrived. She looked around to see Varren had also felt it, but the others did not seem to even know of it. Posted March 25, 2014 Kara looked at Fren when the Shatong moved suddenly and started acting like she was in pain. It was only momentarily, but this still made Kara look around quickly, her eyes darting everywhere in fear. She remembered her time alone in the castle all to well, and didn't want a repeat. "What is it?" She asked quietly, still looking for whatever had set Fren off. She couldn't personally hear or see anything of interest, so was just relying on Fren now. (Sorry, can't do much else because my characters can't hear the noise, so robins going to have to make his/her character appear.) Share this post Link to post
Posted March 25, 2014 Fren shook her head looking confused "Something...... a very high frequency just went through the room." she said quietly looking around before looking at Kara, however there's another life sign approaching, never seen it before." she said looking around "But from where is..... I'm unsure." she admitted "My chemical radar must of seeped through a hidden entrance....." Share this post Link to post
Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Lynn was surprised at the pace she made. She had always had to avoid the numerous obstacles that filled the canopy of her home, which had made her an agile flier but always greatly reduced the speed at which she could fly. After awhile her wings started to become sore from the extended flight so when she came to a new section of the square labyrinth she landed to give her wings some rest and to check her surroundings. She was in a room now and didn't appear to have any of the strange doors or anything else that could be an exit. Lynn waited for her breathing to return to normal before she exerted her senses to try and find even a hint of life when she heard something and not only that, it was close! "But where did it come from?" she wondered looking around the room. She walked farther into the room still unable to pinpoint the sound's source and when she turned around she let out a surprised squeak. Where a moment ago there had been a vast hall was now a wall. "That's not possible" Lynn complained," But then again, nothing else in this place makes any sense." Deciding to focus on what she could help Lynn went back to listening for the noise. Posted March 25, 2014 Jak wasn't paying attention to any of this, instead reading through the book some more, searching for places that could help the group escape. He had just flipped to a section about a crystal labyrinth that showed the persons hopes, dreams, and memories in the walls. He flipped to the next page and yawned, wondering how long the whole alchemy thing would take when his head bumped the wall. Hidden gears clunked into place and began to turn even as a grating sound filled the room. Jak kept to his feet and moved into the room, holding his gun nervously and looking around. It only took a few seconds to realize that a wall section was lowering quickly into the floor, revealing a small room that was empty except for a... Jak took aim, but kept his finger off the trigger, unsure what to do. "What is it?" He asked Varren. "Have you seen a guardian like this?" Kara's reaction had been about the same as Jak's, although she didn't have a gun, nor did she want to fight. Her golden eyes just searched the room for an escape before locking onto the creature that sat in the revealed room. It looked so strange, like a bat and a little like Alina all mashed together. She was as unsure of what to do as Jak was, so she just kept her distance and watched the thing. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 25, 2014 Fren whirled around at the sound of the gears turning seeing Jak on his feet. And the wall he was up against opening. In a instant her hand was already in her weapon with it letting go of her waist so she could aim. Varren also had his weapon at the ready though lowered it at the sight of the new creature. "Everyone hold fire." he ordered lowering his weapon. Fren glanced at Kara "That's the creature I was detecting." she whispered. Varren slowly slithered forward weapon in hand but not aimed. He paused a short distance away "I don't know if you can understand me, but if you can, are you a guard? Or found your self awake in a strange place?" he asked carefully. Small creature but small did not always mean safe. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 25, 2014 As Lynn's sensitive ears detected the the grating she turned towards the noise to find a different wall quickly lowering into the floor. After a second or two there was a gap which she could see several figures, the first she saw was a creature that looked as surprised as she was, it looked like it was a sentient mammalian species but she didn't recognize it. The second appeared to another, larger mammalian person, but she almost forgot about these two when she noticed the others. She let out a small hiss, they were both large and reminded Lynn of the giant snakes the had attacked her village. But they weren't snakes, snakes did not have arms or legs, so perhaps they were different kinds of reptilians. She glanced around the room and realized that there wasn't much space for her to fly out of reach. She noticed the opening that the snake person with only arms was coming out of tho. If I could somehow pass through unharmed there might be a way out," she thought as the creature came closer. Just as Lynn was readying to take flight the creature came to a halt and spoke. She decided to use the plan as a last resort and replied," Yes, I can understand you", her voice was high pitched and she spoke quickly. "But I do not know what you mean by guard, although I did awake here not an hour ago and it is by far the strangest place I've seen" as she said this, she wondered if waking here had some special meaning to them. Posted March 25, 2014 Varren nodded and put his weapon back on his back and nodded to the others to do the same. "If that's the truth, glad we met sooner rather then later. I'm Varren, This is Jak, and Fren is the black one with scales and the other female beside her is Kara, along with Alina. We all woke up in this place at different times." he explained "Your very lucky this place has not tested you before allowing you to meet up with us." he explained Fren looked at the new creature and slowly put her weapon away. Very small, small compared to even Jak. She watched as Varren introduced them and gave a wave of her spare hand before turning back to her work. Share this post Link to post
Posted March 25, 2014 Kara watched the little creature nervously, disliking its sudden appearance. It was true that it hadn't attacked them like a guardian, and it spoke unlike the other guardians, it was just... Kara shook herself, giving a small wave to the creature when introduced. Truth be told she was suffering from a minor case of PTSD, and was scared of most new things. Fren had brought her out of her shell around the group, and she was less nervous around them, but new things scared her, and she wasn't as confident as she appeared. Plus there were the nightmares... Mentally shaking herself before the images could start again Kara turned back to her work as well, this time making a potion for a full, eight hour, dreamless sleep. Jak lowered his gun as well, making sure the safety was on again before sitting on one of the unused tables and watching the creature. He wasn't trying to spook it, but his natural curiosity was getting the better of him, and he wanted to investigate. "Hello." He said with a small wave as Varren introduced him. "So you just woke up?" He asked, even though she had said so. "So where do you come from? I'm from a planet called earth, I woke up about... Two days ago I think. I've slept twice so I'll go with that." Alina meanwhile blinked awake for a moment, her eyes looking up at Fren before she moved a little and buried her head in Fren's arm and went back to sleep, her dreams filled with visions of older dragons that looked like her, and spoke to her, although she couldn't tell what they were saying. Posted March 26, 2014 Lynn looked at members as the one named Varren introduced them. Relaxing slightly although curious about the objects they put away she replied"I am Lynn of clan Veertok". They all seemed wary of her except for Jak who tried to start a conversation. "Hello" she said returning the greeting and then nodded when he asked about her waking up. "What do you mean by planet?", Lynn asked testing the unfamiliar word."do you mean my village? It's best if I don't reveal that, there are... those who hunt my people you see", she said frowning slightly. Turning back towards Varren she asked,"Do you know where we are and what do you mean by guards and tests? Share this post Link to post
Posted March 26, 2014 Varren nodded and looked at the others "All we know is that we are on a strange castle depicted high tech structure. Which seems to travel detentions.... between reality's snagging beings here and there all with some sort of talent, Why it does this I don't know and sadly not all make it alive.... the tests have ranged from simple find the key to the door to puzzles of star charts to having light flow across a ball with grooves across its surface to dealing with guardiens that always seem to want to kill." he explained not mentioning how Jak got his metal leg "Right now, where preparing for our next move. Once Fren and Kara are finished making there alchamy we'll be heading out to resume." he explained "Your free to join our group, survivability is at its best in numbers, everyone aids everyone here."
