Persona 1x1

Daisuke nodded in agreement, trying to ignore the stinging in his hands.

"Well they are fighting to defend us. I guess we have got to give something in return."

Ira started to tear away at the vines, dropping pieces of paper all over the floor. Eventually he managed to expose the vase that Daisuke guessed was acting as the monster's heart and held the vines at bay so Rai could get a clear shot.

Marisa was watching how their personas were battling. She was kind of proud knowing that such a little thing can pack a punch and isn’t afraid to stand his ground.

“Come on Rai. There the opening.” Marisa whispered to herself. Instantly as if Rai had heard her the little dragon climbed up against Ira’s leg. Then on to his back. Next he started running down Ira’s arms where he struggled to hold open the gap. With a small pounce Rai jumped towards the vase striking it with his electrical attack.

When Rai's attack connected with the vase heart of the paper flower monster the creature shrieked in pain. The force of the blow shattered the vase and the entire monster shuddered to a halt before drooping slowly to the ground, turning black and fading away in little clouds.

Ira stood back and watched until the creature was completely gone, then with a small nod faded away himself.

Daisuke let out a great sigh and dropped down to his knees in exhaustion. He was so glad that was all over.

"Okay. What the hell was all that about?"

Marisa fell to her knees alongside Daisuke from exhaustion. She would have never thought of feeling like this even if she did a hard days labour. Looking at her little persona she smile pleased and watched it disappear.

"I don't know but I don't want to find out." She stated looking up at the ceiling. Then the shock came and she grabed Daisuke's wrist.

"Its gone. The goo of a hole is gone."

"Wait, what?"

Daisuke instantly jerked his head up to look at the ceiling, but Marisa was right. The hole they had both dropped through was gone.

With a small grunt he climbed back up to his feet and started to look around the room properly. There was still only the one door, so he ventured over to it and opened it.

Daisuke gasped as he stared out at the scene in before him. Just what was going on? The walls of a corridor stretched out in front of him, but the floor was covered in grass. Not just any grass either, it looked like a well manicured lawn.

He gave a small jump back when something rose under the lawn in front of him, forming a small mound. As he watched the mound sped off down the corridor, like a green wave, and vanished into the distance. A few moments after the mound had disappeared from sight a second one appeared by the door and chased off after the first. Seemed it was an ongoing thing.

"This offically got weird."

“What’s there?” Marisa asked as she pushed herself up. She was half afraid to go closer, afraid that she might bump into another monster.

“Is it another monster or something?” she asked as she tried to look past Daisuke from a distance.

"I have no idea" admitted Daisuke.

Looking to his right Daisuke rested his gaze on a nearby window. It was misted over, so although light could shine through you couldn't see anything on the other side. Leaving the mysterious lawn to its rolling waves he walked over to the window and tried to open it. It wouldn't move, not matter how hard he pulled.

Did this mean the only way out was through the corridor and over its creepy lawn? It was certainly starting to look like it. Daisuke turned away from the window and gave Kanya a little shrug.

"Looks like we can only get through the door. You up for it?"

Marisa’s jaw dropped slightly when Daisuke asked her if she was up for it. He was insane. What if more monsters attacked them? They don’t have the strength to fight back, both of them were exhausted. Just as Marisa opened her mouth to speak her mind went into over drive again. What if that was the way out? What if there was someone in there that could help them out? Sighing to herself she made her decision.

“Yeah ok but if I get scared I’m gonna cling for dear life.” She spoke walking towards him.

((Um. Temporal anomalies?))

Daisuke nodded his agreement and head back towards the door. While the rolling mounds were creepy, they didn't move all that fast. Daisuke figured that they could stay ahead of them if they walked at a decent pace.

"Okay, let's do this."

He waited for a mound to roll off before stepping out onto the grass. He motioned for Marisa to come with him and set off walking down the corridor.

Marisa cautiously looked at the little mound rolling in front of them. She really didn’t want to find out what might happen if it caught up with them so she made sure to walk fast enough in order to keep up with Daisuke and stay behind the mound.

“You know...” Marisa started to speak. “If that vase turned into a plant monster then anything else in here can also be a monster. I guess what I’m saying is that we should really be on our guard and be suspicious of everything.”

"I think you might be right" said Daisuke. "By the looks of it anythign can happen."

They continued to walk in silence for a moment but suddenly the air was full of screams. Daisuke gave a short glance in Marisa's direction before taking off and running down ahead of the corridor.

To his horror the corridor ended in a T-Junction. He could go left or right, but he couldn't tell what direction the screams were coming from.

Marisa covered her ears from the screams. A cold odd feeling ran down her spine which made her shiver. She was about to ask what was going on when Daisuke suddenly took off.

“Don’t leave me alone.” she shouted following him as fast as she could. When they came to a T-junction Marisa looked worried for she couldn’t tell either where the sound were coming from.

“I don’t want to suggest it but should we split up to go and see?”

"Okay" agreed Daisuke with a nod. "But if either of us finds the sound becoming fainter we should turn back and follow the other. I'll take the right path and you go left."

With the screams continuing Daisuke left Marisa at the T-Junction and set off running down the right pathway. The green mounds rolled down under the grass here too and Daiukse had to jump as one caught up with him and let it pass on ahead. He really didn't want to know what would happen if he let one hit him.

As he ran he noticed two things. One, there was a door up ahead, and two, the screams were becoming stronger and fainter. He had assumed it was only one person in danger, but what if it was two? One at each end of this long corridor? That probably meant Marisa nwould be finding the same.

Reaching the door Daisuke yanked it open and stepped inside without taking in what he could see. When he realised what was going on he instantly tried to get out again, but the door had vanished. With no other option Daisuke turned back to face the room and hoped like hell nothing would notice him.

It was some sort of meat processing plant. There were long conveyor belts carrying huge chunks of flesh that Daisuke could only hope were some kind of animal. As the meat travelled it passed a figure that would cut it up a bit before it moved on to be cut up a bit more by another. Daisuke wasn't sure what the cutters were exactly, they looked humanish, save that each one had four arms ending in hands that carried the most lethal looking knives he had ever seen. And they had no faces. Or at least no features on their faces. It was just a blank.

After a few moments it became apparant that none of them were going to take any notice of him, so Daisuke cautiously began to tread further into the room. He could still hear the screaming, which seemed to be coming from behind a plastic curtain at the far end of the roonm. The problem was, that was also where the lumps of meat were coming from. He hoped Marisa was okay.

Marisa wasn’t to keen on going on her own but if they split up they would be able to find the poor soul that is screaming a lot faster. Non the less she went to the left and started running down the corridor jumping every now and then when a small mound caught up with her.

It took her a couple of minutes when she reached a door. It was only then when she noticed that there were “two” screaming sounds. One that was very loud and one that was in the distance.

“I guess we both have one then.” She spoke placing her hand on the door knob. Pushing it open she was quite shocked to see machines bottling milk. How did I get in a dairy factory Marisa thought to herself as step in.

A sudden shock appeared on her face when she turned around to see the door had vanished. Turning back around she carefully eyed the machines as they moved the bottles towards where the milk being poured in. With a deep breathe Marisa stepped closer in the direction the screams.

Daisuke had no idea what to expect when he stepped around the plastic curtain, his imagination was telling him it has something to do with the mysterious lumps of meat, but when he saw what the source of the screaming was he was proved wrong. It wasn't any better though.

The lumps of meat were dropping through large pipes in the ceiling, creating splattery splatters of red splatter when they hit the end of the conveyor belts to be taken through the room. There was another conveyor belt though, up against the far wall, and this one did have people on it.

Daisuke watched in horror as some sort of laser slowly passed over the face of a sleeping woman. As it's greeny yellow light moved over them her eyes, nose and mouth vanished, leaving just blank skin. Further down the line a man was having two extra arms surgically grafted on by two bizzarre looking machines. It seemed nearly everyone on the conveyor belt was unconscious, save for the last person in the line, who was also next in line for the laser treatment.

It was a boy of about Daisuke's age with short blonde hair. Daisuke hadn't seen him before but he was wearing the asylum pajamas, indicating he was a patient like Daisuke. The boy had a perfect view of events on his conveyor belt and knew what was waiting for him, hence the screaming. He spotted Daisuke and started pleading with him to help, prompting the red head to run over and try and undo the straps that held the boy in place. No sooner had Daisuke's fingers touched the leather than all other noise in the room stopped, the other conveyor belt trembling to a halt. Daisuke looked around and saw the shadows of the four armed workers through the plastic curtain. It was like they were all looking at him. Then they started to move forward, raising their knives.

"Oh crap."

Hot steam was starting to block Marisa’s view as she moved closer to the screaming. She wasn’t sure what to expect but there were quite a lot of machinery around and one thing she knew being in a place like this was just trouble. The clank and cling of glasses grew louder along with the screams which made it even sound more eerie.

Another burst of steam exploded in front Marisa giving her a big fright but when it disappeared she was left stunned. In front of her were rows of large milk bottles all hanging from the conveyer belt machine but it wasn’t only bottles hanging there, there were also people stuck in these holding mechanisms for the bottles.

"What the hell?" as she watched the line move along. When it came to the cleaning and sterilizing part the people suddenly disappeared behind a mental object and when they came out the were a bottle themselves. Another thing that made Marisa’s stomach turn was the smell of rotting flesh. What ever was happening in that thing “burned” the people into huge glasses.

Daisuke began pulling at the leather strap in haste, but it was tight and hard to loosen. He barely managed to tease the leather out a little before the first few workers cut their way through the plastic curtain. Their eyeless faces were locked on Daisuke and they crossed the floor in a suprising amount of time. Daisuke had to jump back to avoid the knives as they slashed down towards them, leaving the boy begging him not to leave.

With the workers waving their long blades around Daisuke ended up being backed up into a corner with no hope of escape. At first he thought he was going to be hacked apart but to his horror the workers grabbed a hold of him instead and started to drag him towards the conveyor belt. They were going to make him one of them.

Screaming in fear and defiance Daisuke managed to pull an arm free and punched the closest worker in their blank face, but it had no impact whatsoever. He was dragged up to the conveyor belt and the workers were just reaching from the leather to strap him in place when Daisuke remembered he had another option.

"Persona!" he cried.

Ira appeared just a heartbeat later and knocked the workers away from Daisuke, knives scattering everywhere. Daisuke slumped to the floor and tried to stay out of the way as the Persona charged forward and brought his heavy hand down on one worker who was struggling to its feet. It crashed to the floor and stayed still.

Daisuke didn't know if it was dead or not but when he realised the boy was now just about to undergo the laser process he leapt to his feet and began to resume undoing the straps. While Ira burned and punched the workers Daisuke managed to undo the first strap, which gave the boy enough freedom to duck just as the laser started up.

Daisuke's hands were bleeding again, which made undoing the leather straps harder, but once he managed to get the boy's right hand free he was able to help and it wasn't long before he joined Daisuke on the relative safety of the floor.

Turning back to look at his Persona Daisuek saw for the first time the carnage his Persona was wrecking. Bodies lay all around him, burned black and smashed. He watched as Ira killed the final worker and felt a huge amount of relief mixed with sadness. They had all probably been people too.

With his job done Ira vanished, leaving Daisuke and the boy alone, the only sound the soft gurgling of the worker's bodies. Daisuke sighed and turned to the boy.

"Okay, let's get out of...where'd you go?"

The boy had gone. Daisuke looked around but could not see him anywhere. There was just a white pebble on the floor where he had been standing. Shrugging Daisuke bent down to pick it up. It felt warm.

He put the pebble in his pocket and looked around. Now what?

As if the room had been reading his thoughts a door suddenly appeared to his left. Daisuke walked over and opened it and saw a long corridor before him. With little other option he set off, hoping he would at least be able to find Marisa.

Marisa was looking down the line off captive people noticing just one was awake and screaming. A boy, who seemed a little bit younger than herself. Eventually Marisa snapped out of her moment of fear and hurried towards where the boy was dangling.

“Ho-hold on. I’m going to try and get you lose.”

Running towards a thing with many buttons and levers Marisa started to read but the words didn’t make any sense.

“Aw crap, whatever!” Marisa spoke out of frustration and started pulling random levers. More steam was produced with every lever she pulled and the boy who was still captive was screaming even louder. Glancing back at the boy and the machinery Marisa noticed of a different sound one that caused her to back away from the levers.

“Huh?” Marisa looked down as she stepped into a stream of milk. “This wasn’t here…” suddenly the stream of milk wrapped around Marisa legs causing her to fall. The milk started to form more and more around her spiralling up. She tried to escape but for some reason she couldn’t break free. There was only one thing left to do.

“Persona.”

Instantly the little blue dragon appeared before Marisa already reading an attack. Blades of wind passed her slicing off the gripping milk. When Marisa was able to move again she quickly made way to a dry area while Rai was still slicing the milk. Once he saw his user was safe out of harm’s way he set of a lightning bolt roasting the milk until it evaporated.

“Ok Rai let’s help that guy and get out of here.”

The little dragon quickly crawled his way up the machines until he reached the boy. Releasing several wind attacks it finally damaged the metal bad enough for the boy the slip out. Marisa was standing below ready to catch except she didn’t. Both she and the boy was suddenly attacked by a wave of milk sending them left and right like an ocean.

As Daisuke trotted down the long corridor he came across a fork in the path. The corridor continued on straight ahead, but there was a path to his left. Which way?

He stopped to think for a moment and tried to work out the lay out of this place in his head. If Marisa had found a room with similar dimensions to the one he had just come from, then presuming it opened out onto this corridor, he should go straight ahead to find her. Unless she had already left her room and gone down the center path. Hmm.

Hoping the worst he would find would be a dead end Daisuke chose to continue running down the corridor before him. Three minutes later he was in front of a blank wall with a door drawn on it in crayon. It looked like it had been done by a hyper three year old.

Daisuke reached forward and gently touched the handle. It didn't budge. Well, what had he expected? For the crayon door to open? This place was getting to him. He was about to turn and head back to the other path when a faint cry caught his attention. It had come from beyond the wall with the drawing on it.

"Marisa?" Daisuke edged back towards the 'door' and placed his ear againt it. What was that whooshing noise?

“Rai!” Marisa called out. She wasn’t sure what her little persona could do but she hoped there was something. Still being pushed left and right by the waves she finally got her use to the motions and tried to “go with the flow”. Rai dived into the milky sea swimming easily through the currents of the waves. Marisa was getting exhausted and floating didn’t seem to work anymore. Suddenly something swam into her, it was the boy they rescued but he was going crazy, pulling her down as he tried to save himself.

“St-stop.” She called out trying to calm him and getting air herself but he wouldn’t calm down. Out of her own panic she suddenly punched the guy in the face, knocking him out. “Sorry.” She spoke now holding him up and preventing him from drowning.

“Rai where are you?” No sooner she spoke the words the little dragon forced himself under Marisa arm, providing as a life jacket.

“Find the door.”

The little blue dragon was reluctant to leave her but he knew that was the only option left. Several times he dived, swimming like a snake through the milk, searching the walls for that elusive door. When he finally found a door he used his wind magic and raced to where Marisa and the boy were.

“Uh, you can’t open it, only me?” she asked still struggling. “This place is just ticking me off now. Can you get us there?” No sooner she spoke Rai positioned himself behind Marisa and used his wind magic once again to propel them through the milky ocean. When they reached the wall Marisa handed the boy over to Rai while she dived down. She couldn’t see anything thus she had to feel her way. When her hand made contact with a round object, she pushed and pulled the handle. No don’t be stuck she thought to herself still twisting and turning the handle. Her breath was running out and her mind where feeling a bit dizzy but she still had to try. Feeling herself getting weaker she tried one last thing. It took only one kick sending the door flying open.

Suddenly the door burst open and Daisuke was smashed backwards against the wall. To make matters worse a flood of some white liquid came surging out, pinning the door and Daisuke in place. For a couple of minutes the liquid continued to flow out down the corridor, but finally it ebbed away and vanished. The door swang back into place and vanished, leaving a feel crumpled Daisuke to drop to his knees.

Rubbing his nose where the door had smacked him Daisuke looked over at Marisa and Rai who sitting soaking wet a few feet away. There was a white pebble on the floor next to them.

"What the hell was all that about?" he asked.

“That was beginning of me hating milk forever.” Marisa spoke coughing as she heard a familiar voice. She looked at her little persona who was already on his feet by her side. She smiled still lying on the ground, exhausted from the swim. I knew I should have gone for those swimming lessons she thought to herself.

“We are never splitting up again.”

"Agreed" said Daisuke walking over to lend Marisa a hand. "Do me a favour will you? If we ever come across Terry again, remind me to break his nose. I got a feeling that little game of his is to blame for all this."

“You’re not the only one who wants punch him at the moment.” Marisa spoke as she was helped by Daisuke. Once she was up she didn’t let go of his hand, only she looked at his hand confused and then grabbed the other one as well.

“What happened to you?” she spoke now looking at both his hands.

"Huh?"

Daisuke looked down at his hands. They were still red with his blood.

"Oh. I had a bit of an adventure of my own. Weird as hell. The sooner we get out of here the better."

He nodded over Marisa's shoulder at the corridor beyond.

"I saw another pathway up there. I guess that's the only way we can go now."
