Posted April 13, 2014 OOH I like this idea! Or maybe doing the most famous (non-capital) city of each country, so there's more diversity? I like it. Spain has a few that could be used, such as Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela and Sevilla among others. Share this post Link to post
Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) @Lokiphantom & CosmicStorm: I am in the process of checking who is still with us at the moment. I gave people till this week to respond before they'll be considered inactive. So during the Easter holidays I will bring the active/inactive lists up to date. I'm afraid you will have to wait till then to choose a capital (for theoretically Lisbon and/or Minsk could still answer). @Beldarius: That's an interesting list, and I like many a city on it. If/when we go for adding new cities, however, I'd strongly prefer to choose only one from any country, so we keep a maximum of European diversity. @topic: If you like the idea of adding new cities, go ahead and suggest some. I'll tackle the subject after Easter, when we know who is still active and who isn't. Then we will decide if we want additions to the list, and if we do, which it should be. Posted April 15, 2014 @Beldarius: That's an interesting list, and I like many a city on it. If/when we go for adding new cities, however, I'd strongly prefer to choose only one from any country, so we keep a maximum of European diversity. Hm... let's see then. 1. Germany: Munich. Probably the most famous city apart from Berlin. 2. Italy: Venice. 3. Switzerland: Zürich. 4. Austria: Salzburg. 5. Russia: St. Petersburg. 6. Turkey: Istanbul. 7. Poland: Krakow. 8. Kosovo: Pristina (capital city). 9. Netherlands: The Hague (the Dutch Royal Family lives here). 10. Ireland: Galway. 11. Lithuania: Kaunas. I've visited a fortress called the Ninth Fort in this city... met a living bat in one of the shadowed archways, too~ 12. Norway: Tromso. Has the world's northernmost university. 13. Ukraine: Odessa. The Pearl of the Black Sea. 14. Spain: Barcelona. 15. Sweden: Gothenburg. 16. UK: Oxford. Because it has one of the most famous universities in the world. 17. Finland: Turku. Oldest city in Finland and the original capital city. Share this post Link to post
Posted April 15, 2014 Isn't Istanbul Turkey's Capital city? And, sorry for nto posting in a long time, but I've been busy with life (and with some RPs I'm participating in), plus my dragons have refused a couple times to breedme an egg so I haven't been able to offer anything to the thread anyway. Posted April 16, 2014 Largest cities in Europe, only one per country, no capitals: 1. Istanbul 2. Sankt Petersburg 3. Hamburg 4. Barcelona 5. Charkiw 6. Milano 7. Birmingham 8. Marseille 9. Krakow 10. Rotterdam 11. Antwerpen 12. Gotenburg These are cities with a population of at least 500000. Share this post Link to post
Posted April 16, 2014 sorry for my very low activity these last few weeks but rl is been hectic. 2 kids and 10 visits to the docter in 3 weeks ... and if that's not enough i was sick myself. My DC travels will be postponed as i am going out of town myself but i am always reachable by pm, so don't hesitate to shoot me a pm for an egg of my cities as for my 2c i think it's a great idea to take in more capitals but also should go for 1 extra city per country so no country gets 'too much' if there are more cities needed after that you could always enter a 3rd city per country and now ... off to work Share this post Link to post
Posted April 16, 2014 *pause* Came up with a new idea for the 17 remaining cities. How about the most famous (non-capital) cities in Europe, and Kosovo? 1. Hamburg, Germany (second largest city in Germany) 2. Stuttgart, Germany (base of German car-manufacturing) 3. Düsseldorf, Germany (called Klein-Tokyo because of Japanese immigrants) 4. Munich, Germany (Olympics) 5. Milan, Italy (seat of fashion) 6. Venice, Italy (carnival and lots of water) 7. Florence, Italy (medieval, and seat of the Archdukes of Tuscany) 8. Naples, Italy (Pompeii is nearby) 9. Pisa, Italy (Leaning Tower... I've been there) 10. Verona, Italy (Romeo & Juliet) 11. Zürich, Switzerland (banking) 12. St. Petersburg, Russia (former capital city) 13. Istanbul, Turkey (used to be Constantinople) 14. Salzburg, Austria (Mozart's hometown) 15. Krakow, Poland (capital city of the Kingdom of Poland) 16. Pristina, Kosovo 17. ? I like this list. Maybe add Vitoria-Gasteiz - Spain - capital of the Basque country as the 17th ? I think INTERESTING is more fun than largest (largely because the idea of Birmingham depressed me a very lot ! Nasty airport and even nastier train station...) Share this post Link to post

Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) What about instead of London / GB use London/England, Edinburgh/Scotland, Cardiff/Wales and ???/Northern Ireland? Torshavn/Faeroe Islands, as we have Nuuk/Greenland as well even though that's not it's own Country. Then we could have such a well known Island Group, like the Azores as well.
