Posted September 29, 2013 Anyone play it? I was looking at Ascent: Hand of Kul's trailer to see if it was any good and seen someone mention Dark Souls and checked it out. It looks really interesting. So does anyone on here play this game? Share this post Link to post
Posted September 29, 2013 My friend showed me it and I bought it, and it's actually very good. If I didn't suck at hand-to-hand combat, I might play it a bit more. Share this post Link to post

The same comment I seen said you can't restart a game. Like start from scratch and not with what you had previously like in Prototype (if you ever played it). Share this post Link to post

Posted September 29, 2013 I play Dark Souls on and off. If its your first time playing, don't worry about 'builds' or anything like that. Just build what you like. For example, my first character was someone who used straight swords and pyromancy. The game is hard, and it will punish you if you think you can kill everything in the room at once. The tutorial boss can, and will most likely kill you on your first try. That's the game way of teaching you to not run in, sword swinging. The game does reward skilled players. The previously mentioned tutorial boss is meant to be killed with better equipment you find later on in the area. However, you can kill it with what you start off with. You even get a unique weapon for doing it. While the game is opened ended, there are areas with monsters that will most likely kill you if you take them on at the very beginning. However, they reward items ahead of the power-curve if you're skilled enough. The xp in this same is Souls, which also serves as the currency. If you die, you lose all the souls you had on you. However, you leave a bloodstain where you die. If you get back to it without dying again, you get back all the souls you lost. Share this post Link to post

Kept dying but a tombstone appeared and if you got to it you got your stuff back. This does sound interesting. Can you play it offline or is it always needing to be online? Posted September 29, 2013 You can play it offline or online, and how that works is if you are human or not. In game, you are undead, cursed with the darksign. You can never truly die, since you return to the last checkpoint, or bonfire. You can give 'humanity' at a bonfire to be revived as a human. If you're undead, you can still see other player's bloodstings, ghosts or orange messages. These tell you if there is a trap or something, or a good item tucked away out of sight. If you're human, you're effectively 'online'. This means you can summon another player to help you out with a boss. It also means you can get 'invaded', which means someone is challenging you to pvp. Oh I usually have my internet off when playing certain games or I am logged out of my Live account so I don't know how that is gonna affect me at all. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 1, 2013 If you're actually off-line (I.E signed out of xbox live.) Basically you won't see other people's bloodstains, messages or ghosts. You also won't be able to summon another player to help you, but you also cannot ever get invaded by other players. In my opinions, its worth it to play it online. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 1, 2013 Oh alright just wondered. Like I said it looks very interesting so may try it. Share this post Link to post
Posted December 29, 2013 Bumping this up, yes, but I'm an avid Dark Souls/Demon's Souls fan so seeing how this is a Dark Souls post, rather then start another I guess we could continue talking about Dark Souls after this post. What's your favorite armor? Weapon? NPC? Boss fight? etc. Just talk about anything. Share this post Link to post
Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) From what i saw and read about this game it looks fun so I ordered it and can't wait to play it when it arrives. Edited December 30, 2013 by thomasgold19 Share this post Link to post
Posted December 30, 2013 Oh it's fun, though can be a challenge at first, I wouldn't necessarily say the game is hard but it does give new players a run for their money due to the learning curve which is a pretty steep curve but once you get past that the game isn't that difficult and quite fun. Posted May 17, 2014 (edited) All I have to say about this is I just started playing Dark Souls about a week ago and DAYUM! It's AMAZINGLY FUN! So many people have over-exaggerated the difficulty it just sat on my shelf for 3+months after I bought it (seriously, I was afraid to play it! I was!) until I finally 'worked up the courage' to start playing. It's really not rage-inducing.....it just makes you think. You have to think how many/what kinds of things you want to carry (carry too much stuff and you WILL die from being over encumbered/slow), what style of play you want, how you're gonna lure enemies out, etc etc......It's not super easy, but it's not throw-controller-against-wall-silly-rage-quit-hard. I've found it to be VERY rewarding once mastered/learned. I also like how I keep learning new things as the game continues - for example, I just learned how a parry works and how the backstab works. You run into new enemies all the time and the game keeps you on your toes. I'm usually sitting on the edge of my seat when playing it - and I NEVER do that for video games! Posted June 2, 2014 This game is currently on XBox Live for free! Just started playing, it's putting me through my paces that's for sure. Share this post Link to post
Posted June 4, 2014 I've had it for a while and I am lost in it so I just gave up for now. Share this post Link to post
Posted August 4, 2015 (edited) Feel bad for necroing a old thread a little bit. But I beat the game a few times now and I just bought a near mint condition copy of Demon soul's, spiritual successor of Dark souls. Otherwise Dark souls is a very nice game I'm a pretty big fan of the lore. Gonna remember a lot of the bosses for a long time (good and bad reason's). The combat is great and the game has so many ways to play it. The PVP is kind of meh when starting out as most of the people left doing PVP are very good and makes it have a huge learning curve. I feel like I'm writing a review for the game right now. Edited August 4, 2015 by Crockturtle566 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 4, 2015 don't be sorry for "necro'ing" this page, I beat the blooty Ornstein and smough (aka: biggy and smalls) about a month ago, and it also seems that dark souls 3 is coming out some time that I don't know , anyways, I wanna get dark souls 2 on either xb360 or xbone, I don't which one is the better version , if anyone wanted to give the dark souls series a try.... I say GO FOR IT!!!!!!, just be "prepared to die" lol, see what I did there...... but just be prepared, as you will die a lot, and the game automatically saves, so kill an npc that might give you an awesome item later..... nope , and the bosses are just amazing, even though they are painful *points at various bosses* as well as one that just made you very sad when you kill him *points at Sif* Share this post Link to post
Posted August 5, 2015 -snip- O&S were sort of easy for me only because at last moment I started going the buff path with sorcery. But the Bed of chaos, NOPE. Share this post Link to post
