How was your last dentist visit?

Recommended Posts

Few countries have dental insurance these days. Some jobs provide it, but there's generally a sizeable deductible. Even in the UK, if you can find an NHS dentist, you have to pay the first amount - for the kind of thing you are up against you'd have to pay the first £256.50. For lesser stuff up to root canal work, it's £59.10 before the state kicks in

Damn. That is a shame. Very expensive for somethibg that should be a basic human need.

In croatia. You have social insurance that covers most regular stuff and extended insurance that you have to pay a small amount to keep and it provides extra stugf. An example. You go for a check up and your regular insurance pays for a part of it it but you have to pay for the medicine. Extended insurance covers full costs of your check up and most common medicines.

The usual costs are about 30 euro for the check up. And if I havent had my insurance. I would have paid 70 euro to fix my tooth

I guess our healthcare is decent

My last dentist visit was completely normal, just a teeth cleaning. There was a moment though where I assured the assistant she wasn't bothering me because I had braces so I was pretty used to people messing around in my mouth, and she said "Oh yeah they do all kinds of funky stuff to you," and basically smacked my face around as an example.

It was a while ago I went to the dentist, but I don't think I need to go again soon? I should check. Anyways my dentist is a funny character so it's always quite entertaining.

I hate going to the dentist. I've always hated it.

A few years back, I started going to a new dentist.

They had a questionaire. One question was "How long would you like to keep your teeth?" They expect you to say "always", and start a discussion on dental care.

My response? "Until I'm dead. Then you can have them. Should I put it in my will, or can I count on you to sneak into the funeral home in the middle of the night with pliers?"

January, 2015...  Had a broken tooth pulled...  Now I just have dentures and haven't been to a dentist since...

Not a candidate for the "How to Keep Your Teeth Guide"...

I remember when I was about 8yrs old and overheard a dentist tell my Mom that "...his teeth are so strong that he could go without brushing and never get a cavity."  Unfortunately, I took it to heart...  To my detriment...  Also, the dentist was wrong!  I had quite a few cavities and periods of not being able to afford dental work for myself.  My kids have all their teeth and for that, I'm happy...

Last visit was in march (this year).

My dentist was disappointed he couldn't find anything. Guess I really got better with dental care ever since I switched to him due to emergency 2013-ish (5 massive cavities of which I only knew/noticed 2...). Definitely worried about when is he going to retire as he definitely should've hit the age for that...

My last visit was in March (after 4 years of not going, oops). Everything was fine otherwise, but I had one cavity and even though I tried to make an appointment to get it filled as fast as possible, the next available time was in August! So yeah, I'm still living with that cavity there, hoping it doesn't get any worse. I really don't have a problem with going to the dentist, I had some malocclusion as a kid so I visited at least 4 times a year, and my dentist was this super nice older lady who always told me stories about her cat. I was usually pretty excited to go to the dentist, since it meant I could skip class lol.

Last time I went was like a month ago for a teeth cleaning. They hired new hygienists to do the cleanings and the lady I got was horrible. She wasn't like nasty, but she wasn't really nice, and she was very rough. She told me I needed to floss more because I was bleeding a lot, but she was like hurting me and yanking on me. I have a high pain tolerance when I get work done in my mouth usually, I was in pain for hours afterwards. I've never had that much pain before when getting work done in my mouth, including teeth pulled for braces, and a root canal. I have to go back soon for them to fill in some edges on my teeth from teeth grinding, hoping my actual dentist does that part.

Mine was a month or two ago, and I had a new dental assistant do a cleaning before bringing in my Dentist. I had a nice chat with her between the dental pick usage. My gums were sensitive, but no real issues.

Once, long, long ago, I went to a dentist to have an impacted tooth removed.  It was weird when he brought out a chisel and a hammer and started hammering on my tooth in order to break it in half so that he could get it out.  We got to talking and he found out that I did mechanical work.  We met at his house one day and I looked at him BMW that he had started doing an inframe overhaul himself.  Unfortunately, he got sidetracked and forgot how it had been disassembled, so it just sat there in his garage.  I started in on it and unfortunately, I got it put together and running, but I got a new job over a hundred miles away and so I couldn't take him up on his offer of bartering my work for his work.  It wasn't his fault that I moved so I never blamed him for it.  I was just happy to have the better job.  He was a good dentist, too....

My last visit was a while ago and luckily nothing frightening since it was just a checkup visit. I was really scared that I'd have cavities though since I'll never forget my first tooth fillings.  I was quite relieved to hear that there were zero cavities that time.

Last visit was actually fine, did the regular thing that they always do, and praised me for keeping my teeth clean! They even said they were "almost perfect" and that made me happy~

Yesterday... I saw the specalist. I've been bumpped around for the past month with a wisdom tooth that has been giving me pain. so my specialist appointment was supposed to be a consultation only. two weeks earlier I had booked 3 days off to get the tooth out at my regular dentist.

the day before hte expected extraction he calls me in to do an X-ray (why it wasn't done the week before when I saw him is beyond me) He says the root is curvy and hooked plus its also near the nerve and removing it could screw up feeling my jaw for life. So specialist it is. so they make me hte appointment and only on monday _ the day before) they send them the X-ray. (Why not sooner?)

So I go in yesterday, and they say -"oh its a consultation only, we'll have to rescheduled for the extraction". I explode into tears replying"I was scheduled for the extraction two weeks ago, and I had to wait, and I was ready for it long before then.... I need it out NOW!" I sat in the office just in tears because this wisdom tooth needs out weeks ago. its causing pain, earache, I can't sleep on that side and I am taking enough IB to kill a horse. (I still am right now)

So they said, if I wait a hour or two, they can get me in for consultation/extraction - the dentist said he can do it - there were just a few surgeries for him to do (he's fast)

So I waited. He's an old man, practising for 50 years, has generations of families see him, plus I overheard him talking with the former CEO of Air Canada - so I have it figured, that if that man is returning to this place, then he's probably a good dentist.

His tools are very old school, makes my denstist look like super modern and futuristic.

So in I go and he jams that needle in me - makes me grateful my regular dentist is so gentle... because this HURT to high heaven. freezing kicked in and my lip felt like a sausage.  He explains that he could gas me (come in another day) or freeze me and rip it out. I did say freeze it, I had enough of this tooth and i want it over with.

So he takes the tooth out, does some drilling and then gets it out in two bits in under two minutes. two stiches later, I am set free.

My husband is paying for it and the receptionist says "Oh there was drilling done" and my husband goes white as a sheet. (he is not good with these things)

I am given a prescription for antibiotics and T3's I am taking the Antibiotics, and the T3's are thrown in a drawer because I have better pain relief results from 3x200mg IB than the T3 which did Jack-slag. My face is swollen, my teeth are aching in that way when somethings been pushing on a spot and its gone... feels like everything wants to move back.'

So gentle rinsing of my mouth with salt water, eating mashed potatoes with shaved BBQ pork loin, apple sauce, yogurts and my comfort food -  Kraft Dinner Mac and Cheese. I got time off work for two days to recover.

Nothing really happened, my dentist just checked for cavities and told me to floss as usual. But I realized I might have a problem because my reaction to my dentist poking around in my mouth was not "ew a stranger's hands are in my mouth", it was more like "yay, someone is actually touching me!"

I may need to hug people more often.

Crown placement today Plus a filling on my wisdom tooth. My dentist is wanting to preserve my wisdom tooth because if the crown fails, he may want to use it as a bridge foundation.

Yesterday was my first check up in at least 5 years. My parents insurance was awful but I have my own pretty good insurance now.

Anyway  went in for pain and turns our it's gum and not tooth pain so yay no cavities. Going to have some wisdom teeth removed and a cleaning to try and get everything all caught up.

I work as a dental hygienist, so I kind of visit there every day, lol xD

No but last time I actually had a check-up and it seemed that I had a starting cavity in one tooth. But the x-ray film was really damaged one and asked for another x-ray with other dentist. And there was nothing after all.

Had crappy hygiene habits for most of my teenage years (psychological trauma), and still had no cavities years later. They just gave me a cleaning and a whitening, and sent me away. But they failed to give a **** about the candida overgrowth in my mouth, and my doctor's not much more helpful. 🙄

Childhood mistakes coming to bite me back in the rear. I've already had to have two teeth removed and now a third one is acting up... damnit, I wish I could invent a time machine just so I could go and slap my young self in the face for being such a **** idiot!

Funny topic. My last visit was a couple of months ago. August? September? Needed one of my cavities redone, and badly so.

And, yes, I have a lot of cavities - and two or three teeth that are dead husks. On the plus side, I still have all my permanent teeth at 39 and counting.
