So what I was thinking of a newborn angel, meaning somebody who recently died and was turned into an angel (who I am hoping to play) who has to be taught about the spirit world. But the council has assigned her to be taught by a demon, who can corrupt her. Other demons will do anything to get hold of her to rip her grace and innocence out to use it for more evil.

((Name: Morpheus/Phobetor/Phantasos Oneiori. For simplicity's sake, he usually sticks to Morpheus.

Age: He stopped keeping track. Looks about twenty.

Gender: Male

Appearance: It tends to shift a great deal, but default is this. He tries not to look terrifying unless it's deliberate, but sometimes odd things will pop up. A talon there, a scale here...

Personality: Responsible for every aspect of dreams, the good, the bad, and the strange, this particular demon is a master of illusions. Sometimes he acts like three separate people, each with vastly different personalities. It's unclear whether this is an elaborate act, or if he really has dissociative identity disorder. Rest will be RP'd.

Mind if I start?))

The walls of the cave were black and glassy, almost like obsidian. Great swaths of red poppies bloomed around it, their scarlet stark against the darkness of the stone. It was a stunning scene, like something out of a painting. The crimson petals bobbed gently in the breeze created by a pair of wings. The angel peered into the darkness of the cave cautiously. The council had asked Ambriel to fetch the new angel's tutor. The angel folded her wings and took a hesitant step into cave.

"Hello? I believe you've been contacted beforehand about this?" she called. She didn't know what to expect of whoever the cave's occupant was. They hadn't told her very much. She took a few more steps forward and jumped back when she stepped on something soft and downy. A quiet sigh came from whatever she just stepped on. A pair of wings as black as the stone of the cave lifted off the ground slightly. The jumbled heap on the ground moved. It uncurled like a cat disturbed from an afternoon snooze. A pair of sleepy green eyes blinked owlishly at her. There was a faint rustling sound, and the demon stood to face her, completely wrapped up except for his face in a pair of ebony wings.

"You shouldn't have woken me up." Ambriel eyed the drowsy looking demon cautiously. He seemed about as dangerous as a five year old in dire need of nap time, but that was probably intentional. She was still fuming that the council would allow a new angel to be tutored by a demon. Were those old geezers out of their minds?

"Why? Late night?"

"You could say that," Morpheus said, yawning.

"I hope she was worth it," Ambriel mumbled under her breath.

"Not that kind of late night. And I'm not that kind of demon. Now, someone said something about a new angel?"

"Oh, so you were actually awake for that bit."

"Are you going to tell me or spout comebacks all day?"

"Alexis. She should be here soon." Morpheus wrapped his wings around himself a little tighter.

"Could you leave?"

"Why? You're going to make her as sick and twisted as you are, aren't you? You demons a-"

"Actually, I need to put some clothes on," Morpheus said pleasantly. Ambriel sputtered and walked out, departing in a flurry of wingbeats. Morpheus chuckled softly and let his wings vanish. That always scared the angels away. He was actually dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, and looked like he might have escaped from some Parisian catwalk. He straightened his tie a little, plucked a black umbrella from thin air, and strolled out into the poppy field.

Alexis was afraid, she didn't really know what was going on for she never got a clear explenation. It was horrible for her and she felt like she had no freedom, two angels were gripping her upper arms, dragging her to her 'teacher', as they said.

Things were moving so fast the newborn angel couldn't process her surroundings until she found herself infront of a large ebony cavern. The angels let go of her to search for the demon, Alexis still not knowing who or what her teacher would be. She looked around and slipped away into a field of flowers when her escorts weren't looking.

Morpheus spotted one angel that seemed to be trying to sneak away from the others and sauntered over, twirling his umbrella. "And you must be Alexis. How do you do? First off, let's get rid of the prison guards, shall we?" he said politely, nodding once in her direction. He spun on a dime to look at the angel escorts. "You can leave now." A strong wind whipped up, plucking off red petals that whirled around the angels like a rosy tornado. They were gone once the wind died down. He circled the angel once, looking her over quickly. She had looked terribly confused when they brought her here.

"Now. I haven't introduced myself. I'm Morpheus....most of the time, and I'll be the one showing you the ropes. I'm a demon, in case you haven't noticed. Angels tend to hate me with a bitter passion, even though the last time there was a war between the two groups was centuries ago." He paused, not wanting to overwhelm her anymore than he had already had. The point was to not terrify her, after all. He briefly vanished and came back with two chairs and a small plate with a fork and a slice of cake. He set the chairs down and offered her the cake with a friendly smile.

"Poppy seed cake. Relieves pain, and it's my favorite dish. I'll give you the whole history lesson later about demons and angels later. First, have you got any questions?" He wondered if he was coming on too friendly. He had no idea why the council would ask him to go tutor an angel. Oh, sure, he was milder than most demons while still having the juice to fend off other interested parties easily, but who was to say he wouldn't just corrupt her himself? He laced his hands together, watching Alexis with disarmingly sleepy eyes. She was beautiful, as most angels were. In fact, she'd be beautiful even by their standards. Quite innocent. Oh yes, she was angel he'd love to make fall from grace.

Alexis timidly took the cake, not sure if she could trust him after the way he made the two angels dissappear and the fact that he introduced himself as a demon. Slowly she moved the chair back, wanting a distance between her and Morpheus so that if he tried something she had a chance to get away. She pushed the fork through the slice of the cake and ate it slowly.

When he said Poppy Seed cake was his favourite she looked back to the field of flowers. "I think I've noticed how much you love poppy's. They're... everywhere." She said, before taking another bite. "It seems more of an obsession than love." She added after swallowing. She was still uneasy around him, he was a demon and who knows what he would try to do to her after awhile.

Alexis tried to get herself to relax but it was impossible. Being watched by a demon, especially one that was this friendly, was unsettling. "I don't have any questions... And even if I had some throughout my life, I wouldn't remember."

"Obsession? Ouch. Quite the way wih words you have there. No, the poppy is my signature, in a way. Both morphine and opium and derived from it. It can end pain, and end lives. All in a tiny little flower." Morpheus quirked an eyebrow at Alexis, thinking that perhaps she'd be more of a spitfire than she looked. He didn't want to deal with more angels that did their best to hurl insults as long as they were there. "It's very useful, and they always bloom here. I think a Greek poet wrote about my home once. 'And there the children of dark Night have their dwellings, Sleep and Death, awful gods.'"

Morpheus frowned, remembering what he had said about history lessons. He shook his head and rose. "Well, if you have no questions, I have one for you. We'll need to move around a bit, so have you learned how to use those wings yet, or shall I give you a flying lesson?" Morpheus wondered whether she would bother to ask how he'd fly, especially since he had no wings and looked more human than she did. He didn't think he was doing a good enough job of keeping her feeling less tense. Oh well. She'd get used to it eventually, and the poppy seed should start kicking in soon if she didn't. Morpheus watched as a field mouse scampered towards his home, darting in between the stems of poppies. It movements slowed the longer it was there until it simply fell asleep. It wasn't dead, merely deeply sleep. His gardens were the perfect defense mechanism for his home. Having a few hellhounds guarding the very border certainly didn't hurt either.

"No. I didn't mean obsession in a rude way! There is just so many of them." Alexis said, quickly finishing the cake. She watched as he got up and asked her if she could fly. "No... I can't fly... I'm only three days old and the other angels didn't bother teaching me anything... I guess that's why they brought me to you, they don't want me there." She sighed and wrapped her wings around her body to create some comfort.

"And why would you care? You're a demon and you'll love leaving me here on my own to fend for myself... You'll love my misery."

"Actually, they'd probably prefer you were taught by one of them, and they absolutely want you back. That's not their decision though, nor mine," Morpheus explained. He walked over to Alexis and knelt so he was eye level with her. "Sterotype much? Three days and those oversized feather dusters already have you hating me. I swear, sometimes angels can be such racists," he mumbled. He put a light hand on her shoulder and looked at her closely. "I promise I won't abandon you, and of course I care. I don't enjoy seeing people suffer." He straightened and stepped away, running over his words. The last part was a half truth. It really depended on who was doing the suffering.

"Let me see your wings. I think you already have the muscles and you just need to learn what to do with them, but I'd like to be sure." Morpheus waited for her to unfold her wings from her body. He wondered if she was cold. Perhaps he should offer her his coat.

Alexis smiled slightly when he promised he wouldn't abandon her. "Would you let me fall when I learn how to fly?" She asked, looking at him. Slowly she stretched her wings out so that Morpheus could take a look at them. "And if you call them feather dusters then you're calling me one as well." She looked up at him, looking slightly hurt. "And I don't hate you. Can you blame me for not trusting you? Those of my own kind don't want me there so why would you want me?" She wanted her expression to stay like the one of hurt but her yawn made her look more like an innocent little child.

Slowly she rubbed her eye before hugging her knees to her chest, waiting for him to finish.

"Oh, they want you there, feather duster, but they're not getting you. You'd have ask the council if you want to know why you ended up stuck with me," Morpheus murmured, not entirely unkindly. He ran his fingers over her wings, his touch as light as a lover's caress. For a moment, it seemed he trembled a little, his touch suddenly unsteady, but he swiftly pulled away, satisfied with his examination. "Great. And of course I won't catch you. You can't learn to fly without falling because that's all flying is. Falling, with a bit more control. Don't worry though. I won't push you into a bottomless pit and challenge you to fly up again only to kick you back down when you finally struggle out." Morpheus smiled as if that was exactly what he planned to do. He was only joking of course, but that was mostly because he hadn't found a bottomless pit yet. "I'm kidding. There's an easier way to learn." He snapped his fingers and quite abruptly, the field of poppies faded and fizzled away. Nothing remained of it except a single red flower that seemed to be pinned on the lapel of his coat. Instead they were in the city, on a rooftop. The rooftop of another house was within sight, but the space between them was a nasty drop. They were at least seven or eight stories up. Morpheus seemed comfortable with it, walking to the edge to the point where he was a light push away from falling. "This should do nicely. Try getting to the opposite rooftop. Like so." He stepped onto the stone rim of the building, and crossed the gap with a graceful leap, landing as lightly as a raindrop on the other side. A brief flash of black that could have easily been his coat whipped up by the wind was the only sign he had crossed it without simply jumping. But then, no human could cross that distance by jumping. He repeated the action to land back on her side. "There. Try it. You won't fall." He didn't voice that it wouldn't matter if she did. She had to keep a little fear of the ground, even if this ground wasn't real.

"Don't call me feather duster! You're the racist one!" Alexis yelled, having lost her temper. She didn't enjoyed being called names at all, she didn't even find it moderately funny. "So you'll just let me fall to death?! I don't want to die again!" She was still upset and what he was saying only added to the anger. Quickly she peered over the edge of the building, backing away when she saw the drop. She sat down and crossed her arms over her chest.

"I'm not jumping, you said you'll let me fall. Carry on enjoying yourself but you are not getting me over the edge of the building!"

Morpheus sighed, his irritation controlled with an iron grip. If he was irritated at all. It was hard to tell. They could have at least given him someone who had a sense of humor. Or had a functioning brain. Besides, angels were a lot less fragile than humans. He doubted a fall from this height would stop them for long. Any other demon probably would be intent on manipulating her already, and it was very tempting to go ahead and do that. If she had been taught by an angel, they wouldn't have tolerated being yelled at. The Heavenly Host was like an army, and angels were soldiers. They didn't take kindly to dissent in the ranks, even from a newborn. Perhaps the council had been right to keep her from the angels. Throwing her to the demons certainly wasn't the right solution either. Whatever the case, he was stuck with an angel with clipped wings.

Morpheus walked over and picked her up like she weighed no more than a bag of feathers. He put her down on the edge and stepped back. He was still rather close, blocking her path in case she tried to run. "You have to learn how to fly. If you don't, you'll be completely helpless. It's like being surrounded by wolves and not knowing how to run. Don't make me push you." Morpheus watched her closely, waiting for her to make a move. He half expected for her to turn and try to shove him off the roof. It would be tremendously ambitious of her to try to kill him, but it would be a great deal easier if she did.

"You're just as bad as the angels, making me do things I don't want to do... Can't we start from the ground up? At least then I'll know how to move my wings to be able to keep me up in the air before I go jumping off of the buildings. I'll be useless if I break a wing." Alexis was pleading with Morpheus. "Please, you know I won't make it to the other building."

Alexis looked back at the demon before looking down. She almost fell off of the building when she saw how high it was. "That's too high... No, no, no. I'm not jumping, I don't trust you. And dare push me off, I swear I'll run away. Have fun with the angels then."

"No, I'm worse than the angels." Morpheus shed his coat, put his umbrella aside, and grabbed her hand and pulled her over the edge with him. They went hurtling down like stones, but when the ground neared, they simply went straight through it. After they passed through the thin layer, they found themselves plummeting through the clouds, as impossible as if seemed. They kept falling, but they never saw the ground, only more sky. The wind was surprisingly gentle, and wasn't nearly as loud as it might have been expected to be. It should have been cold, but it was pleasantly warm as the afternoon sun.

Morpheus didn't seem bothered by the falling, his eyes closed and a serene expression on his face. He opened his eyes and blinked, looking over to Alexis. He still hadn't let go of her hand, keeping a reassuring grip on it. "Falling isn't the problem. It's the solution, and you can't fall when you're on the ground." He breathed deeply, the wind tangling his hair. "You still haven't asked how I'm doing it. You really should question things more," he mumbled, seeing rather pleased with himself. He figured she should be somewhat used to it by now, and let go of her hand. "Now come on. Spread your wings a little. You already know how to move your wings. Instinct. Don't try to reinvent the wheel."

He twisted so he was falling right side up, but made no attempt to demonstrate for her. Instead he crossed his arms and watched her, somehow managing to seem dignified even with the wind blown hair. He adjusted his tie a little and looked expectantly at Alexis. There was a clipboard and a pen in his hand, the paper somehow not flying away. "Remember to keep your elbows in and your knees straight."

The young angel had shrieked when they went over the edge. When she felt the wind she opened her eyes, confused. All that shhe could see is the blue sky and fluffy white clouds. "The more you fall the better your chances are of learning how to fly?" She wasn't sure if this is what she was supposed to learn at the moment, her mind was still with the fact that they were freefalling but the ground just never came.

"And I'm sorry for never asking how you could fly, my mind was occupied with other things. So explain that to me when we are done here." Alexis looked around once more, not noticing that Morpheus let go of her hand. She looked back at him when she heard him say she should try to fly. 'Don't try to reinvent the wheel... Easier said than done,' She thought. She opened her wings, but instantly knew she had too much, for she felt like she was jerked back. "Too much." She mumbled.

Alexis straigthened her knees and kept her elbows in. She then closed her wings slightly and felt how the wind got harsh again. When she was close to Morpheus again she spread out her wings and glided, slowing her fall and making circles around him.

"No, I meant how we're always falling and never hitting the ground. But very good!" Morpheus said, tossing away the pen and clipboard and clapping. He continued to nudge her slightly, correcting position and otherwise spouting off bits of advice. "Yes, you'll be fine in no time. It comes naturally to most angels. That's enough for now." Morpheus snapped his fingers again, and they were back in the field of poppies. The demon yawned, as if he had just woken up. He had his coat and umbrella, and his hair was neat again. This time, everything was real. No paper thin ground or infinite sky. He smiled at Alexis, wondering if she had figured it out yet. She didn't need to be asleep to dream. It was all in his name. Morpheus. God of dreams. It was the perfect way to teach her how to fly without the slightest bit of risk.

Morpheus stood and twirled his umbrella in a loop. "Now you have the know how, let's see you try it." A loud snarling sound made him pause. Barking followed it, but no dogs were to be seen. It got louder, until it seemed like they were surrounded by a pack of invisible, wild dogs. Morpheus knelt to cradle something Alexis couldn't see. "Something wrong, boy?" A vicious growl was the only reply he got. "...I see. Sic 'em, boys!" The feral group took off, barking loudly. Morpheus grabbed Alexis, holding her close, and the sky suddenly grew dark. Two massive wings cast a long shadow. They were as black as a starless night, and it seemed even the bright sunlight did nothing to make them seem brighter. The shape of his wings resembled those of some bird of prey, although it was hard to say which.

Morpheus threw himself into the air, carrying Alexis with little effort. They needed to leave, and quickly. He didn't trust the new angel to be able to keep up with him after only a bit of practice. "Sorry about that. Other interested parties," he said cheerfully, intentionally keeping his voice light. If he was alone, he would have just stayed and kicked out whatever unfortunate demon decided to challenge him, but having a rather impressionable angel with him was a problem. On second thought, it might be better to let her watch that. Might help with the whole corruption thing. He still hadn't really made up his mind as to whether he should be helping or hurting.

Alexis had enjoyed learning how to fly, but when Morpheus snapped his fingers she was a little upset, still wanting to continue. She felt slightly drowsy and her mind foggy, like after waking up. She wanted to start flying but the sudden flurry of barks and growls startled her, making her forget what she wanted to do.

She squeeked when Morpheus pulled her to him and took off. "A warning next time, please." She stated, looking up at the large, black winged figure. "What is that thing?" She asked, clustching Morpheus' shoulder as she watched it.

"What thing?" Morpheus asked, his dark wings putting more and more distance between them and the field of flowers. He twisted to look at his wings. "These? They're mine. Yours won't be as big, but that's because you'll only be using them for flying. I need them for flight and...other things. Although as you move up the angelic ranks, you'll get changes. There was this one angel I knew who had six wings and three heads, one of which was a lion. Once you start to get really high up, you start turning into a giant flaming wheel of eyes, among other things. You also get less and less time to just wander the planet. You only get to leave heaven for reeeeeaaaaally important stuff."

Morpheus paused and adjusted course a little, slowing down. They were a safe distance away now. Good thing they were far enough away to not be able to hear the screaming. "If I let go, can you fly by yourself?" What would be the next thing to teach her? Best to stick with what was practical first and try to get her to trust him a bit more. He was more or less obligated as a demon to make her fall. What would get her cast out? Murder of a human or angel unless ordered to would certainly fit, but currently, the murder of a demon might do it too. They were enjoying a brittle, tense peace, but if an angel were to break the treaty....If he played this right, he might be able to spark another war. A mischevious grin danced on his lips.

"No, back at the field. Something was there in the sky!" Alexis looked at Morpheus, sighing because he didn't believe her.

"Then I don't want to go up into higher ranks, I like it like this." She smiled. Invoulentarily she nuzzled her face into his neck, hoping to block out some of the wind.

She readied her wings when she was asked if she would fly. "I don't know if I can fly completely yet, but I can try. So drop me, if I fall I shouldn't hit the ground too hard." Alexis' wings twitched slightly, it was an uncomfortable feeling and she didn't know why. "Just say before you let me go." she quickly added, waiting.

"No, really, that was me. Look." Morpheus held his wings half extended, casting the same long shadow as before. "Don't worry about it. Sometimes I don't bother to do a perfect job of hiding them and they end up looking weird. Or several feet away. You should try to aim high though. Foot soldiers are usually the first to go." He stopped talking and felt his heart jump to his throat. It was beating far too fast. He blinked and looked away for a moment, pretending to examine a bird that fluttered past them. It was a scruffy brown and white. A skylark, perhaps.

"Three....two.....one," He counted before releasing her. He dropped so her was a little bit below her, ready to catch her again if she couldn't stay airborne. "Liftoff?" His tone was light and teasing, but there was a seed of worry in it. Perhaps he should have let her practice a bit longer. He couldn't expect her to master it in a day, never mind an hour. Then again, he never had to teach anyone, so how was he supposed to know how to go about doing this? He wasn't even sure he had the patience to be a teacher. Maybe he should go have a chat with the council sometime.

"I don't want to be stuck up there pompous idiots Morpheus." Alexis was telling the truth, all the angels she's met before were all stuck up, a-holes who only care for themselves.

When Morpheus let go of her, she quickly unfurled her wings and beat them a few times to get the lost momentum back. But Alexis didn't trust herself with flying, she knew she didn't have the needed pratice to get pretty far with flying yet, but she didn't want to burden Morpheus, who'd have to carry her again if she showed that she couldn't do it. She looked up at him, seeing he was ready to catch her. "No, I'm fine, I think I can stay airborne, don't worry."

Alexis took in the scenery, realizing she didn't even know where they were going. "Morpheus? Where are we going?"
