Block Specific Users From Offering on Trade Links

Recommended Posts

I've been pondering making this suggestion for a bit now, and finally decided to do it.

There should be a way to block specific users from offering on your trades. We can block people from PMing us, so why not this?

I've had several users offer things on my trade links that either I'm not asking for, or that I do not want. For example, I have a 4th gen Shimmer up for trade. In my signature, it very obviously states that I do NOT want Shimmers higher than 3rd gen, so please do not offer them in trades. What do I get offered? 6-7th gen Shimmers, of course. It would be nice to be able to block these users from offering on any of my trade links again, as all they do is anger me.

Other suggestions:

1. Temporary 24 hour ban

It solves the problem of someone making a pest of themselves on your current trade(s), but if they actually have what you want in a trade next week they can offer it.

2. Auto-declining certain breeds/lineages.

a drop-down list where you can choose "breed: x & x & x " and "lineage: CB/nice lineage/all lineage" or something like that?

3. Only allowing the same user to offer on a specific teleport link three times.

This stops random trolls who offer different "trash" on shimmer over and over, and if you're trading with your friends, but you accidentally hit the wrong button three times...you can always cancel your trade and make a new one for your friend.

In my experience, people who make offers like that tend to never offer what you actually want, so I don't think that will be much of a problem.

And, if you don't want to worry about that happening, you just simply don't use the block option. Nobody is forcing you to use it.

I don't mind even I get different offers, It's not THAT much to just push the decline offer

It gets annoying when you're constantly getting offers you aren't asking for/you specifically stated you don't want. It would be easier to just block them then have to push the decline button multiple times. But like I said, if you prefer just to decline, you don't have to use the block feature.

I really don't see a need for this because I find it very easy to just decline offers that are not of interest to me. I am not against it, though, if such offers really bother people and they would rather not deal with them. I wonder how many of the offerers would be repeat offenders anyway, but if it is a problem then I would be okay with allowing them to be blocked.

|: I'm lucky if I get more than one offer when I offer a shimmer in trade. And I'm not even asking for similar-gen shimmers in return anymore. Or shimmers period for that matter.

All you really have to do is just not accept the trade if you don't want it. I don't really see a need for it. Besides, blocking PMs is on the forum. The actual trade offers are on-site, since you're just clicking the link to go to it on the forum. So it's not really the same sort of thing.

I don't see the point. Yes, occasionally some silly person will offer the same thing multiple times on the same link, and yes there are some users who chronically offer crap dragons for spectacular dragons. But unless you are declining dozens of offers each day.... I don't really see the need for a block. I'd rather TJ spend his time on other upgrades.

Cheers!

Lol, suppose they've offered the wrong dragon from being overtired or whatever and don't realize their mistake until it's too late?

I often get invalid offers, both via PM and via teleport, but in all honesty the latter doesn't bother me at all. It may be frustrating when you have been waiting for an offer for days and days and suddenly see that long-awaited "1 offer", only to discover it's something you don't need, but I don't mind that *too* much, even when the same person offers the same thing again and again. It's not difficult to decline offers you don't like.

The board settings allow signatures to be blocked, so people might not have all trading information if OP doesn't put them into the trade post (which is not more effort than a simple copypaste from that info saved somewhere).

Is going to try to do this delicately....

Just a suggestion that some of those offers may be done purposely to annoy, possibly in retaliation for somewhat....'abrasive' wording in trade offers?

Sometimes that kind of thing can be seen as a 'challenge'.

Yes it would be awsome, but there shouldn't be something that blocks them from trade permanently only that trade.

EDIT

on the other hand maby it would be good to permanently block someone (because of spam or other reason)

I'm 100% against this. What if they are tired and give you the wrong one? What if it was a misclick? Can you also imagine the amount of people who'd do it simply out of spite because of a disagreement on a thread or some other silly reason?

This would be abused very easily.

I didn'nt think of that now that you say, i think it should only be used temporarily. Maybe the person blocked will be notified?

I decline this, i really don't see the need smile.gif

The decline button works a charm, and if they keep on doing it, just let them be - don't decline - and then they get bored of it smile.gif

Agreed.

And then, there are other users that can't seem to get a lower gen shimmer, it seems that that is a privilege for only %20 of the players. That is actually what annoys me the most, so I understand that some users offer "crap dragons" as someone here said, in hopes to get a lower gen shimmer in order to start making better trades. If you don't like higher gens, then why some people should just stick with them? I think some people may be stupid and want to really annoy you, but then there are others who are only hoping for a random act of kindness.

I speak for myself, I only got a lower gen shimmer/tinsel in this game because someone was kind enough to offer it.

I think this block function would be useless as others stated. It will only enforce that there's a "lower class" of DC players and a "higher class" that can't be touched. That is the thing that really annoys me.

^^^This is perfect! And so true, I know I have offered a on the fence crap/nice dragon to hope to get the random act of kindness! But like a person who Pm'ed me asking for a 2nd gen magma, I happy to give it for free, as i like it when people offer me RAFK! smile.gif

Those are luxury problems.

you only ever get such offers if you have items of great value - and I dont think that entitles anyone to block others from trade.

Ps: I sell most of my shimmers for crimson hatchies, smile.gif

This is pretty much how I feel about it, so I'm gonna say no as well.

Mabye there could be a bit where you select the type, and lineage, of the item you want, and if someone offers different, their offer is automatically declined?

So are you saying that "luxury problems" are less important than other people's problems? I don't see how having "items of great value" makes it any less valid than if I were trading a few common hatchlings.

Also, please don't use this thread to advertise your trades (:

I don't see how that's my problem that they don't have what I'm asking for. If I specifically state that I only want X, Y, and Z, or I do NOT collect, so please do not offer A, B, C, and someone offers something that isn't X, Y, and Z, or they offer A, B, C, I should have the right to block them from offering again, since they obviously cannot follow simple rules.

I really like this suggestion, because then you wouldn't have to be annoyed with offers you don't want. ^^'

That wasn't a advertisement it was a simple statement.

Also not everyone can read proper english at times so people can make mistakes. Being tired and misclicking can be issues. Touchy phones and iPads can make up for issues too. It's simple enough as is without a block list. Don't wanna see it click decline. Just one click and the offer is gone it comes back repeat.

Like I said before this can be severely abused by people who just either don't like the user for some reason or just don't want to see that offering again and just block out of spite. This system would not work well at all. It would be used to abuse and if someone was bad enough they could start blacklisting people. Can you see the chaos that would start?

In my opinion this is unnecessary. I am not criticizing it or anything, I just don't see why many people would use it. Yes, all of us have at some point received some offer we didn't want but really, how hard is it to press decline? I personally think just like a PM reply, declining unwanted offers irrespective of who's at fault is basic courtesy. And sometimes I've ended up accepting a random offer I didn't ask because it was more interesting than what I was asking for or I didn't get any offers of what I needed. In general, people don't even get flooded by offers so much that they would consider this an issue, most of my own trades end up with me finalizing one of the first five offers I get (usually first itself) because I want the trade stuff gone asap from my scroll. I suppose if I really wanted to punish someone for continuous redundant offers (which never happened, in fact I don't even look at names of people who offer before accept/decline) I'd just leave their offer standing until they retract it, but I've personally never done this to anyone because I don't mind using decline feature at all.

Many people , specially those who get many offers, also have tendency to simply accept an offer when they see something they like and leave the rest pending, so everything gets auto-canceled once trade off is done. This saves them from responding to unwanted offers, but it's not a very advisable method as it tends to piss most traders off if they are made to wait pointlessly, specially those with genuine offers.

Perhaps you can add a poll and gather some statistics how many people will really use such a feature, that will help many of us to decide whether to support or not. For now, I think this isn't really required.

Perhaps this would be useful to some people, I don't know. It would not interest me at all. I want to get offers on any egg/hatchling I offer in trade. Anyone who offers anything however undesirable on any trade of mine has a chance for me to accept it. If someone offers something I don't particularly want on a trade, and I don't get offers I prefer, there is a chance I will gift the egg to that person. I would never block offers, because if there is someone out there who would be interested in owning the trade, I want to know about it. I would rather gift an egg/hatchling I have up for trade than AP it, always.
