Undesirable Alts

Recommended Posts

Have you ever gotten hold of a really nice Black, Vine, or Nebula, only to have it Alt when you really didn't want it to?

These are my only 3G female Nebulas; I wish they were blue; I did not breed them:

Why Did I Have to Alt

I have bad luck with alts

edit: I'm tempted to get them some gold mates & breed their offspring together.

Quote from the Wiki about "alt" Nebulae:

Those new sprites are as a matter of fact not considered as "Alts" by site standard. They are just a second variation of the "normal" purple and blue sprites (just like the red Dorsal Dragon, the tan Ridgewing Dragon or the different colored Striped Dragons). They can be obtained by catching them in the cave or through breeding.

So, they're not really alts.

Pfft. Alt is short for "Alternate" and considering these are an Alternate color to the first released set, I consider them alts. Call them what you will, but to me they'll always be alts. tongue.gif

I actually have the opposite problem. I have a Nebula with all Alts and one non-alt oops. I love this little one, though.

Yes, not alts - but still...

I only ever wanted blues and purples. And always got red and green...

Then I started working on a lineage with stones and reds.

And guess who gets loads of blues instead....

I count anything that has sprites other than their "base" sprites as an alt. Dorsals, nebulae, blacks, vines, etc.

So I think it's fair for people to consider them alts.

Could someone really not want an alt black or vine?

If it throws a wrench into a lineage, then no- I would not want a vine or black to alt. For the most part I would certainly prefer them, however, if I am working on something that looks better with the standard sprites where the alts would be glaring and obvious right in the middle of the lineage? I'd probably trade it away for something else.

I like the regular Blacks better than the alts so I usually hope for regular hatchies, but I wouldn't call the alt versions undesirable. They are nice too.

I definitely didn't want them for this or this. I had no problems with the rainbow, but got a number of alt Blacks in the song lineage - I traded some, kept some.

I recall at one point I needed a regular Black Female to balance my scroll. I had gotten a Black Egg, and influenced it female.

Much to my annoyance - it hatched into this

Hence her name of Alternate Fail

You can see that - it is indeed possible - that a player does not want an Alt.

I have a lineage(currently on hold) involving every color of nebula, but it revolves around alternating colors. Naturally I would always get the wrong color at the wrong time.

There were a couple of curled alt hatchlings that I let grow into adults black alts because the lineages were so nice I wanted to be able to breed the adults and not just have frozen hatchlings.

Not one I bred, but one I caught in the AP. (Although, to be fair, I was hoping it was a more common variation of this paring with female silvers and tan ridgies.)

Honestly I'm now trying to find a third gen alt-fail of the lineage I just described to go with this girl. THE LINEAGE DESTROYERS.

Also nebulas I picked up in the AP ruined some lovely green lineages I adored:

Actually I just picked up another nebbie with another goregous green pairing (this time with pebbles) and I'm just resigned to the fact that it's most likely going to turn purple.

ETA:

kiyoura> I say freeze because at least the hatchie has some nice easily visible gold hues that still look good with the rest of the lineage, I find the gold bits on alt vines aren't super-prominent in lineage view.

(And looking at my one alt vine lineage the yellows in that are such a shade they actually kind of look better with MAGIS than golds...)

Just my opinion tho.

There was a time just about two years ago where alt blacks were all that would hatch, and regular blacks were considered rare by comparison.

Personally, I don't care for the black alt. It's a bit too "bulky" for my taste; I prefer the more graceful design of the regular.

But I wouldn't mind getting one so I can trade it away. tongue.gif
