Rating: 7/10 Review: The story was interesting, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the tone didn't quite match the subject matter. The writing level seemed addressed to tween level, but the book dealt mostly with threats and murder. Book Number: 3 Number Of Pages: 151 Book Title: Off With Their Heads: The Prequel to Alice in Deadland Author: Mainak Dhar Summary: Prequel and third book in the series. This is the story of how India became the Deadland and tells short histories of the characters that starred in the other books. Rating: 6.5/10 Review: I felt that there was enough history explained in the first two books that made this one largely unnecessary. A couple of the character backstories were really fascinating to read, but the rest of the book didn't hold my interest nearly as much. They found a doctor willing to work with them and learned to work as their daughter’s physical therapists in order to teach her to walk, feed herself, and write. This book shows how the cerebral palsy affected not just Karen, but her entire family as well. Highlights include Karen’s correspondence with a group of soldiers in Korea, the marriages of sisters Gloria and Marie, and the family’s decision to raise show Newfoundlands to give Karen a chance to compete with the non-handicapped… while she couldn’t personally take the dogs into the show ring, she could and did assume the duties of care and feeding and grooming for the shows.
