Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) I was really looking forward to this movie and watched it in normal 2D. It was pretty awesome, but I don't think it was better than the first. Truthfully, if felt a little overstuffed. A lot of the times, it felt like they were scrambling to balance the different plotlines, when just one would've been great, so plot and characterization suffered as a result. That may be my preference for slower-paced character interactions and such. The animation was superb, though, so kudos to Dreamworks for that! I wanna rewatch it in 3D just to see the character and dragon interactions. (Toothless' face is too cute for this Earth.) I just hope the 3rd movie steps up its game. My only disappointment with HTTYD2 was: "Where on earth is Thornado!?" I seriously doubt that the movie was following much of the TV series, and it's quite possible Thornado just might not be Stoick's dragon anymore, but in the series Stoick has a dragon named Thornado and he didn't have it in the movie. :c According to Tvtropes (), Stoick let Thornado go at some point in the TV series and goes dragonless after? I suppose he picked up the new one sometime in between, or it'll happen in a newer episode. Edited June 22, 2014 by ShaydraSilversky Share this post Link to post
Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) Saw it today and loved it! Spoilers in transparency, but I can do them white instead so people can highlight and read. Just lemme know. x3 I did think near the end after Stoick dies that the solution had to be long enough that they were just going to cut off there and put the conclusion in the next movie. (At first I thought it was definitely too sad for a kid's movie to end there, but then they had the funeral and decided to go after the dragons and I really thought that would be the end.) So I do agree the end seemed kinda sudden and stuffed in. I'll take it, though. It was cute. I did not think I was going to like Hiccup's mom coming back, but man, it was really awesome. I love her mask! I did not like, again, the casual use of ableist language nor did I enjoy the way they portrayed crushes working via Ruffnut's whole love triangle squiggle thing. It seems like the only purpose of Ruffnut in the movie was to revolve around boys/men. =\ I loved the new dragons we got to see. The bit where they just look like butterflies swarming was so beautiful. I saw quite a few that reminded me of various frog species as well. The dragons are all just very creative. I love them so much. <3 I agree they did absolutely stunning with the animation in this film! I thought Astrid was handled marginally better in this film but, as with the last one, I'm left wanting one where she is the main star. Overall, I enjoyed this one just as much as the first one, although if forced to pick I might pick the first as my favorite. It's really close though. I just overall have enjoyed most the characters, the storyline, and the graphics. I do think these are very well done films. o3o When Gobber was talking about "this is why I never got married... and one other reason" and got sad, anybody else immediately skip over the, er, inadequacy joke and think maybe Gobber loved Stoick? >_> Edited June 27, 2014 by SockPuppet Strangler Share this post Link to post
Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) I watched it on the 12th and it was the best movie ever made. The six months I spent waiting totally paid off. When I saw the teaser trailer, I just couldn't contain my excitement. I was practically bouncing around the walls and couldn't shut up about it when telling my friends. When I watched, I wore my hoodie that has Toothless's face on it.^^ It was the best feeling ever. The movie animation was amazing and I have to say that even though both 1 and 2 were amazing, I like this one better than the first. I liked how they explored more on different places and that they made the characters visibly age. Also, the plot and the lesson were very nice as well as the execution. The sad part of the movie (I don't wanna spoil) really touched my heart and I couldn't stop crying. Edited June 22, 2014 by DarkDragonWind Share this post Link to post
Posted June 23, 2014 Looking forward to seeing this! Just got to wait for the theater in town to start playing it (I think it starts somewhere around my birthday). Share this post Link to post

Annoyed that articles are reporting it as "coming out" since he didn't actually come out, but happy that I actually caught something, I guess. Posted June 26, 2014 I watched it in 3D and dragged whoever wanted to come along. I loved it as a whole (will watch again!) with the emotional rollercoaster and whatnot, but I feel the plot is jumping the gun a little too fast. I mean, while I'm sniffling over the sweet reunion halfway in the movie , suddenly something else crops up and the whole atmosphere changes very quickly, not much time to go 'awww! That's just sooo sweet!'. Kudos Dreamworks, this movie just topped my best movies list and that's saying something. PS. Did you guys see the Toothless fondant cupcakes that were made for the movie? I almost went ahead to order them and then realized they don't do shipping. Share this post Link to post

I mean, I know what you're talking about, but I'm confused because I can't tell if you think he was or not? o3o alright, gonna theorize here: So like, when I first heard the rumor of Gobber coming out I was like, "Yeah, I can see that." I have the feeling that Gobber actually has (well, had) feelings for Stoick. I feel like I remember points during the TV series where Gobber and Stoick would bump into each other or be trapped together or something and there would be this interesting odd tension for a moment. Like, you can tell they're obviously friends, but there's something about their reactions that suggests Gobber's feelings for Stoick falls a bit into the romantic area. Stoick knows this and does get a little uncomfortable when stuff like that happens, but they're still close friends regardless. That said, it could totally just be something I read into a bit too much. Also, while it could have been Gobber coming out, all that was said was "And another reason" which could, in truth, be a number of things. In fact, it may also be possible that Gobber is asexual, in which case he didn't marry because he's simply not attracted to anyone. I seriously doubt that, though. I get the feeling that he's canonically homosexual or at least bisexual, though I'm pretty sure it's the former. (also, uh, I'd like to request you change it to white, just because I'm pretty sure your self-quote maybe contained something else but I have no idea because it's also transparent. Also it's much easier to highlight if I feel like reading spoilers instead of quoting. x3) Share this post Link to post

I seriously doubt that the movie was following much of the TV series, and it's quite possible Thornado just might not be Stoick's dragon anymore, but in the series Stoick has a dragon named Thornado and he didn't have it in the movie. :c Its really simple actually Stoick released Thornado because it was for the best. Thornado had to take care of three orphaned Thunderdrum's. As a father Stoick knew himself it would be selfish to keep Thornado for himself so he released him so his dragon could teach those young one's how to survive in the wild. Anyway... I watched it last night! I was blown away by it! I seriously loved it! The graphics were amazing the story was good. I loved the emotion of everything. I even cried... twice! I don't even know why I cried the second time .png But in all it was a good movie and watching it in 3D really made me happy! Share this post Link to post

Sure, he could be any of those things, though the actor specifically said he was coming out as gay (unless the news articles were just reaching when they reported it this way?). But again, as it wasn't defined in the movie... xP I feel like your theorizing is probably reaching a bit since having Gobber "come out" was something the actor spontaneously did in the second movie and it was just decided to keep the line. But since Gobber having feelings for Stoick was my first thought as well, I'm not disagreeing (except with the Stoick being uncomfortable bit =p ). Don't be annoyed at the news outlets, be annoyed at the filmmakers. They're the ones who announced, a good month or so before the movie was even out, that Gobber was going to come out in the movie. My post was lazy and badly worded, but yeah, I am (also) annoyed at the filmmakers. =\ Edited June 27, 2014 by SockPuppet Strangler Share this post Link to post
Posted July 3, 2014 People say sequels are never as good as the first. Well they are LIARS! I thought this movie was just as good as the first, if not better! Share this post Link to post

Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) I think HTTYD 2 was an amazing movie. It took me forever to watch the first one (my friend kinda had to bribe me to watch it) but I enjoyed the first movie so much that my favorite dragon became a Deadly Knatter and a Terrible Terror (more like Tiny) The second movie just added more dragons that I love to my list and I had to look them up! I just...They're so adorable! especially the Frilled dragon and Stormcutter. The movie was amazing, but I don't think they shouldn't have done two certain things in the movie (those who watched probably know what I'm talking about). But all in all it was an amazing movie^^ me and my friend watched it in 3D as well we had no other choice. Edited July 4, 2014 by LunarMoonlite Share this post Link to post
Posted July 4, 2014 The movie was amazing, but I don't think they should've done two certain things in the movie (those who watched probably know what I'm talking about). I read this as "things they should've done" Which IMO should have been between our favorite (well my fave) young lovers and a certain few vows. Kinda sad they didn't do that after the credits Q.Q I must say though I am torn between Scauldrons and Nadders o.o Scauldrons just have this baby face that is like d'awww and then Nadders are like IMMA RAPTOR WITH WINGS YO! Posted July 4, 2014 @Shay I meant to say Shouldn't Have sorry and it's not the Gobber part that Sock was talking about earlier. I love Deadly Nadders, Whispering Death, Changewing, and the Zipple back, I also love the new water dragons introduced (forgot their names, you didn't really get to see their pictures in the movie) Share this post Link to post
Posted July 4, 2014 I'm going to watch it again with my mum and friend this weekend. Once again excited. I seriously can't wait for the series to begin explain certain things Share this post Link to post

Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) It's rare that I appreciate a sequel as much as I do the original, but this is one of those rare cases. Overall, I adored the movie. The only thing I hated (and many movies, particularly kids movies, are guilty of this) is how one-dimensional the antagonist was xP There was one other thing too, but it's a bit of a plot spoiler, so I won't give it away...let's just put it this way, why make us all warm and fuzzy inside if it's going to change all of 5 minutes later? UGH Also...the Alphas don't look like dragons at all. That was cringe worthy. Edited July 5, 2014 by Wahya Share this post Link to post
Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) There's going to be a series? I still have not seen it and I'm supposed to leave to go back home the day after tomorrow. (Leaving Sunday) The shows will be released on dvd after the season airs on Netflix. It will be a bit of a delay, but you will have an opportunity to obtain the shows when out on DVD. I read it some where that the series will air somewhere next year. Then I thought what the heck lets email Jeff Hare who works for Dreamworks to find out if it will appear for us in my country. Sadly not but I will get the dvd's once they come out And I actually like the Alpha's. The looked good to me as leviathan dragon's Edited July 5, 2014 by DragonSpirit009 Share this post Link to post
Posted July 6, 2014 Just passing by to say that I actually cried at that part. You all know which one I'm talking about. We were in the highest seat row so nobody saw but still... Dang. Share this post Link to post
Posted July 6, 2014 There's going to be a series? There are already two seasons of the TV show that take place between the first and second movie, though it's a lot closer to the first. There's going to be a third movie, so I assume there will be part of the series that happens between the second and third movies. I think there's going to be a third season at least for the part between first and second, though, because there was some unfinished stuff at the end of the second season.
